ITunes 8 + Vista only sees some files

Though I have not changed my music library, with iTunes 8 on Vista, my library only sees about 10% of the music that is there (and was seen with previous iTunes versions). I have tried reinstallation of iTunes, and reinstallation of my music library (from a back-up computer running XP). The files exist in the correct iTunes Music folder but do not (all) appear in the iTunes library.
If I access an individual track via windows explorer (in the iTunes music folder), it adds it to the iTunes library. Don't want to have to do this for over 4,000 tracks.

Update: I have uninstalled iTunes 8 and installed iTunes 7.2. Now my entire music library is available. Must be something with version 8 and Vista? Guess I'll learn to live with the "Get iTunes 8" banner for a while.

  • Consolidate library only moving some files

I tried consolidating an iTunes Library to a new folder on an external drive, but it is only copying over about 1/3 of the files that are in the iTunes Music folder on my internal drive. How can I correct this situation? Please help, this is urgent.

When you copied everything back it should have been as it was before.
Now it sounds like you have two issues - it only copies 1/3 of the files when you tell it to consolidate,
and it is asking you to find some of the files.
The path you set in prefs only effects where new stuff you import will go.
itunes is too stupid to look there for missing files all by itself.
A long standing problem IMO. itunes knows where files are when
they are first imported to the library, after that all bets are off if you move files around.
What I don't understand is why when you copy the original files back to
where they were before that things do not work. This has worked for me when I had to restore from
a backup when the primary disk failed. Try this, start itunes
by double clicking the itunes library file you copied back to the
    internal disk.
Sorry I could not be more help. To be honest I think you might be screwed and have to start over. I think you may have changed more than one thing at once in a panic to get things working again.
    Good luck

  • IPad 3G no longer detected by iTunes (Win Vista), only charging when battery V. Low

This appears to be a software issue: my iPad 3G (32GB) is not detected by iTunes (yet my iPhone is), nor by Windows Vista.  Furthermore, it does not charge from the wall charger until it shuts down in low battery, and only charges to 2%, after which it switches on again.  Tried switching off and charging, which only causes it to switch back on again.  Also tried cold resetting, but problem persists.  Was working fine previously, no updates, additions or subtractions were made to either PC OS, iPad or iTunes immediately before problem started... and there doesn't seem to be any mention of this on the internets (including this forum).  Any suggestions?

Soft boot, hold down top button and middle bottom button at the same time, with the iPhone connected to your computer and iTunes will recognize the phone on reboot.

  • Itunes wont open. Says some files are required and to reinstall

I have done it twice and still it says the same thing. can someone please help

    Hi together.
Now that I've been working on this problem for a couple of days I still have no idea how to solve it.
During the installation process for iTunes 7.5 an error-window pops up with the message "iTunes cannot run because some of its requiered files are missing." I've tried to un- and reinstall all components several times without any success. I also tried installing older versions of iTunes with the same result. Starting QuickTime ends on reporting Error 2093. Also re-installing Windows fresh and virginal did not help anything.
The error messages occured first after installing Win XP Pro's SP2 on my computer. Before that everything worked fine. I would have gone back to SP1, but I need that **** SP2 for Visual Studio.
Maybe there's someone out there who knows how to cope with that.

  • Bought a show season on iTunes and it only downloaded some of them

I recently purchased season 1 of Kyle XY on iTunes, and instead of downloading all 10 episodes, it only downloaded 3. Even in my purchase library, it's only showing 3 episodes. How do i get the rest of them without needing to repurchase the whole season?
    Gateway GT5458E   Windows Vista

Look under the Store menu in iTunes for the "Check for purchases" command and run that. You may find the other episodes there to be downloaded.
if not, contact the iTunes Store customer support department through the form at the bottom of their Season Pass FAQ web page and explain the problem to them.

  • Appletv only sees SOME tv shows

My appletv sees tv shows purchased from the itunes store, but any thing I mark as a tv show that is a video file of my own does not show up. If I change it back to movie though, it is visible.
    Suggestions?

I use a program like Parsley Is Atomically Delicious (http://them.ws/pad/) to add program titles/season #/descriptions to the few shows that I don't buy directly from the iTunes Store. It has a very nice batch feature and also offers the option to replace the original file(s).
My favorite feature: it can derive the season and episode #s that you will sometimes find in the "Season"x"Episode#" Title format.

    hi REMCO!
In the list of special folders in the program Tweaks there is much but not My Music. What now?
under those circumstances, people have been having some success with the following technique (scroll down to the bottom of the page to see the relevant post in the thread):

  • I downloaded the newest version of itunes, and it tells me some file couldnt be located

    its telling me
    "the procedure entry point
AVCFAssetCreatWithByteStreamAndOptions could not be located in the dynamic link library AVfoundationCT.dll."
this has NEVER happened before when i updated, now i cant open itunes, or quicktime and ive deleted+downloaded it over and over and nothing will work

Taken at face value, you're having trouble with an Apple Application Support program file there. (Apple Application Support is where single copies of program files used by multiple different Apple programs are kept.)
Let's try something relatively simple first. Restart the PC. Now head into your Uninstall a program control panel, select "Apple Application Support" and then click "Repair".
If no joy after that, try the more rigorous uninstall/reinstall procedure from the following post:

I have a new PC, I have downloaded Itunes, logged in and plugged in my Ipod. How do I make sure that all my music moves from my Ipod to Itunes?  Currently it is only showing what I have purchased from Itunes on Itunes, not my entire library.

  • Only saves some files to PSD?

Okay so I have a bunch of files and I am trying to save them to PSD so I can work on them in Photoshop.  Some save fine and open fine but some say they cannot be saved, an error occured.  Is there a reason this is happening?  Some are the same files, just different sizes.  Of course that doesn't mean there isn't something different between them.  Any help?  I am on a Mac running Mavericks with the CC version of Fireworks.

i would imagine they are temporary files ... probably the ones you are currently modifying

  • Office Web Apps only opens some file types

I have a Office Web Apps (WCA) 2013 UAT environment that is connected to my UAT SharePoint 2013 farm.  I can preview a lot of document types in Office Web Apps but other I get an error.  For example pptx gives me the error "Sorry, PowerPoint
Web App ran into a problem opening this presentation. To view this presentation please open it in Microsoft PowerPoint".
All the excel file types work as does *.doc files.  *.docx files fail.
I can't find any logging information in my ULS or event viewer logs.
Background: The OS on all servers is Windows 2008 R2, the OWA/WCA farm uses allowHttp as I will be behind a hardware load balancer.  The issue is not to do with SSL or SSLoffload as most file types open.
The SPWOPIBinds look correct to me: Fails for the docx binding below

    Extension       : DOCX
    ProgId          :
    Action          : attend
    IsDefaultAction : False
    ServerName      : OWA-UAT.DEMO.LOCAL

     Works for this WOPIBinding
    Application     : Word
    Extension       : DOC

    Action          : interactivepreview
    IsDefaultAction : False
    ServerName      : OWA-UAT.DEMO.LOCAL

    Any ideas?

By default, there are 8 bindings for DOCX.  Do you see any other bindings available?

  • While importing and burning some CDs, my entire library has disappeared.  Also, there no longer is a "burn file to disc" command in the File menu.  I have downloaded the latest version of itunes which restored only tracks I bought from the iTunes store.

Also, the "burn playlist to disc" command has disappeared from the File options.  I downloaded the latest version of iTunes but that only restored tracks I'd bought from the iTunes store.  I also tried setting up another logon.

    Empty/corrupt library after upgrade/crash
Hopefully it's not been too long since you last upgraded iTunes, in fact if you get an empty/incomplete library immediately after upgrading then with the following steps you shouldn't lose a thing or need to do any further housekeeping.  Note that in iTunes 11 an "empty" library may show your past purchases with links to stream or download them.
In the Previous iTunes Libraries folder should be a number of dated iTunes Library files. Take the most recent of these and copy it into the iTunes folder. Rename iTunes Library.itl as iTunes Library (Corrupt).itl and then rename the restored file as iTunes Library.itl. Start iTunes. Should all be good, bar any recent additions to or deletions from your library.
Alternatively, depending on exactly when and why the library went missing, there may be a more recent .tmp file in the main iTunes folder that can be copied & renamed as iTunes Library.itl to restore the library to an earlier state. Look for a recent .tmp file that is similar in size to the .itl files in the Previous iTunes Libraries folder. If it has happened repeatedly you may want the earliest such file generated since the last iTunes upgrade.
If applicable, see iTunes Folder Watch for a tool to catch up with any changes since the backup file was created.
When you get it all working make a backup!
Should you be in the unfortunate position where you are no longer able to access your original library, or a backup of it, then see Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device.
I've noticed more of these missing library posts of late and a common factor to most since I started asking is AVG Anti-Virus. It seems in some cases it might be at least part of the reason why the library file disappears. Try excluding the iTunes folder from any AV scanning process.

I have copied my music library from two different files from extewrnal hard drive into the Itunes folder. I tunes only recognizes some of the songs. I have reloaded 5 times and can't get intunes to recognize all my songs? HELP!

" When I did this, my library showed all the music I have "purchased" from itunes but did not have the music that I downloaded a long time ago through itunes from my old CDs."
    Correct.
" How can I get that music to show up in my library now on my new computer?  "
Copy it from your old computer or your backup copy of your old computer.
The sync is one way - computer to ipod.
