Itunes 8 will not recognize my 2nd Gen Nano - HELP!

I downloaded Itunes 8 on Friday and the new version does not recognize my 2nd generation Nano Ipod as a devise. It does, however, recognize my husband's Ipod Classic so the port and the wires are okay. Can anyone help me?

I think there is a problem with the new itunes version for windows : only the new gen ipods can be recognized. So delete itunes 8 and install again itunes 7.

Try here . First try uninstalling iTunes and reinstalling it.

My computer will not recognize my 3rd Gen iPod. What to do?

This just started acting up today. I am able to plug in the ipod to the firewire cable and get it to charge but the computer will not recognize it. It does not show up in iTunes or on My Computer. I have updated iTunes, accessed the device manager to stop and start the ipod service program (as stated in a FAQ), i have restarted my computer. All of these have not solved my problem. Does anyone else have any suggestion? Has this happened to anyone else and if so, how did you fix it. Thanks in advance for any help.

i just bought a new ipod nano 3rd generation and my computer and itunes will not recognize it. i have downloaded the newest version of itunes and my computer meets all of the requirements, and it still is not working. the ipod guide that came with it said that setup assistant should come up, yet it has not.

It will charge but my computer says a driver needs to be installed but it cannot find it and iTunes does not recognize it at all. Any help?

Okay. Maybe they're looking for the usbaapl.sys driver as well.
Try to bring the Hardware wizard up again. This time browse to:
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\Drivers
... and select the usbaapl.sys file.
Any better luck with that one?

Windows 7 does not recognize ipod 6th gen nano

Windows 7 does not recognize my device so I can't sync to iTunes. I tried running MSCONFIG, reinstalling iTunes and various different cables, usb ports. Any other suggestions?

Does the iPod appear in Device Manager when it is connected?
To access device manager, click Start and then right->click on Computer and choose Manage.
It might be listed as unknown or under the USB host controllers section.

New iMac doesn't play nice with 2nd gen nano-- help!

I have a brand-new iMac just bought a few weeks ago (running 10.5.6 and iTunes version 8), and I'm having a problem getting it to talk to my 2nd generation nano. When I connect the nano, I get this message:
"An iPod has been detected, but it could not be identified properly. Please disconnect and reconnect the iPod, then try again. If the problem persists, reinstall the iPod support software from the Optional Installs on the Mac OS X install disc."
The iPod still works fine with my Macbook Pro (using the same cable), and the firmware is up to date. It is also recognized in disk mode by the iMac.
Some of the things I've tried already:
-Reinstalling the iPod support software as instructed.
-The 5 r's
-Unplugging other USB devices (the only other USB device was a keyboard anyway).
-restarting the computer with the iPod plugged in.
-Unplugging from the internet.
-Uninstalling iTunes, installing an old version (7.6) and using that.
Has anyone else had this problem with the new iMac? Does anyone have any ideas????

Well...I went out and got myself a third generation nano (as I lost my old one anyway). Same problem. This is really frustrating; does anyone have an answer?

2nd Gen Nano help

I was given a 2nd gen Ipod Nano when I bought a guys other iPod. He gave it to me saying it wouldn't turn on so it's not like I got ripped off or anything. I've left it plugged in for hours, tried the reset menu and center thing several times also. Anyone have any other ideas? I thought maybe since the battery was completely dead/bad maybe it'd still work plugged in but it doesn't.
I should note the gentleman told me his kids used it for like a month and it sat in a drawer since. So there isn't even a scratch on it. Hate to toss it.

Considering the fact that it's a 2nd generation Nano (meaning it's a bit older) and that it went unused, it's like that the battery is completely shot. You'll need to have it replaced either by Apple or a third party repair company.
As for jailbreaking, we are not allowed to discuss such things on these forums. Just remember that if you do, you are voiding any warranty you still have with the iPod.

I have a desktop running Vista and have iTunes version 9.02.25 running. I can connect my old 15GB iPod and iTunes will recognize it no problems. However when I try and connect my 6GB iPod mini, even though its charging, nothing happens.
Can you please help??
I used to have both connected to an older desktop I think.

I tried that last night and whilst i was able to reset and put into Disk Mode, this made no difference. You could tell the PC wasnt recognising the fact it was connected as it didnt make the beep noise that it does when the 15GB is connected.
Any other ideas??

ITunes 8 will not recognize iPod or iPhone

I have iTunes 8 running on OSX 10.5.5.
I recently updated to iTunes 8. Since updating, iTunes will no longer recognize my iPhone 3G (8G) or my iPod Video 80G...I've even tried my husband's iPhone.
It's obviously an issue with iTunes.
I've restarted everything in every combination possible.
Is this a common bug that will likely be resolved with the next update, or do I need to go to the Genius bar?
