ITunes 8 - Win: STOP iTunes from launching when I connect iPhone???

Hello,
I have searched around a lot and have seen various responses to this question, but cannot seem to find a definitive way to stop iTunes from launching every time I connect my iPhone 3G.
If this is possible, can someone please provide specific instructions on how to do this?
Windows Vista - iPhone 3G - iTunes 8
Thank you!

Google is your friend, Chad.

"+However, there is a workaround solution:+
+Allowing auto-syncing for all devices in Preferences, and then turning automatic syncing off for the device in Summary, corrects the problem and prevents iTunes from auto-launching when the device is connected.+"
It may be Mac specific, but maybe not. Try it out. If not, continue to Google for "Disable iTunes Auto Launch (or auto start).

  • I don't want iTunes to launch when I connect iPhone.  How do I stop this?

There's a way to rename a file somewhere to prevent either iTunes or iPhoto from launching and mounting iPhone when it is connected. I read about this when I was having a problem one time. I have searched "disable automount itunes" (and other variations) and now I can't find it. Can anybody point me to the thread about this?
I like iPhoto to launch and mount, but I only use iTunes to upgrade the iOS. I would like iPhoto to automount and iTunes to be voluntary (i.e., clicking on the iTunes dock icon, etc.) I don't want to have to unmount iPhone from iTunes and close iTunes every time I simply want to download photos.
    Thank you.

With a Mac, you need to remove the iTunes Helper from the login items for your computer's login account.
System Preferences > Accounts. Select your login account. Under the Login Items tab for your computer login account, select iTunes Helper followed by selecting the - sign to remove iTunes Helper from your login items.
There is also a way to prevent iPhoto from launching automatically when your iPhone or any digital camera is connected. iPhoto will launch automatically when your iPhone is connected when it includes photos and/or video in your iPhone's Camera Roll only.

  • Windows 7 x64 - iTunes no longer auto launches when I connect iPhone

    Hi
Ok so i installed Windows 7 x64 and iTunes x64 but now iTunes no longer auto-launches when I connect my iPhone. My PC has no problems finding my iPhone, it does the camera bit and if I start iTunes manually it syncs the iPhone with no issues.
Does anyone know how I can get iTunes to auto launch again please?

  • How do I stop photos from launching when I plug in camera

Can't find anything in the preferences that will stop this new app from launching when I plug in cameras or phones.

Plug in and let it load, then click on the camera/phone on the left hand pane and uncheck the box:
You should also be able to do this via Image Capture (in the Applications Folder) but I haven't tested it specifically.

  • How can I stop iTunes from launching when I hit the button on my head phones

On my MBP I have some head phones that have an inline mic with call answer button. The button on the head phones is fairly sensitive and I tend to bump it on accident often. When I hit the button iTunes is launched or if I have it open it starts music.
Is there anyway to stop this from happening? This is driving me crazy!

This problem has been an issue for a number of months and has led to frustration and public humiliation on countless occasions.
When disconnecting from my Bose Soundlink at home (playing nothing) in order to taking my laptop on the run I open my laptop to find that the entire contents of my iTunes playlist is being belted in public. The subway, the library, my classroom is not the time or place for my laptop to make the decision to begin playing my music without permission. When at home and my Soundlink goes on standby I have nearly had a heart attack when my laptop spontaneously begins blaring my music when I wasn't even touching the thing.
I love my Soundlink and I love my Mac but together the devices are causing no end of aggravation with no fix in sight. With each OS update I hope the problem is addressed but to no avail, it is getting tiresome that such a flaw isn't being fixed in a timely manner.

  • How to stop iTunes from launching when iPhone is connected?

I have the "Disable automatic syncing for all iPhones and iPods" checked in my Windows version if iTunes. But when I try to charge my iPhone, it still comes up. Is there any way to disable this. Windows also detects a camera device. I do all my iPhone stuff at home on my Mac, but at work I have a PC and I want to be able to charge my phone using the USB cable. But I don't want iTunes to launch or the PC to detect the camera device. Any ideas or suggestions?
    Thanks

    SteveFLHTCI:
Here's what I did using Windows Vista Home Premium. First, when I connected my iPhone, an AutoPlay dialog box popped up asking me what I wanted to do. Towards the bottom, there was some blue text that stated "Set AutoPlay defaults in Control Panel" and I clicked on it. When the Control Panel AutoPlay applet opened up, I scrolled down towards the bottom and found a list of devices which included "Apple iPhone." From there, I selected "Take No Action" from the drop-down list and have lived happily ever after.
    Hope that helped. Good luck.

  • How to prevent iTunes from launching when iPad is connected?

I don't want iTunes 11.0.1 to launch every time I connect my iPad (3rd generation, running iOS 6.0.1) to my Mini. I want to decide if I want iTunes, and then, if I do, launch it manually. How may this be accomplished?
    Notes:
    1.  iTunes .. Preferences .. Devices ==> "Prevent ... from syncing automatically" is UNchecked.
    2.  (in iTunes while connected) iPad .. Summary .. Options ==> "Open iTunes when this iPad is connected" is UNchecked.
    3.  When iTunes auto-launches, it does NOT sync. It "mounts" the iPad and then sits idle.
    TIA for any ideas,
    Mark

    Found the answer via Bing:

With the iPad connected and (at least in my case) iTunes NOT running, start the program "Image Capture" (mine is version 6.1). In the lower left will be a label "Connecting this iPad opens:" and below that label is a drop-down box which, in my case, was set to iTunes (don't ask me how), and I have since changed to "No application".
    Gee, that was obvious.

  • Can't prevent iTunes from starting when I connect my iPhone

I primarily connect my iPhone 4 to an iMac at home, on which pretty much all of my content is stored.  It's set up to sync wirelessly.  Until recently, I synced my calendar and contact data to Outlook on my work computer, which is a PC running Windows XP.  We recently switched to an Exchange server for calendars and contacts, and my backups sync to the cloud, so I don't need to sync anything at work anymore.  I still connect the phone to the computer to charge it and to upload (not sync) photos, but there's no reason to run iTunes, so I unchecked the "Open iTunes when this phone is connected option".
The problem is that when I connect the phone, it still starts iTunes and goes through a "sync".  I have nothing selected to sync, but it copies "Safari safe browsing data", whatever that is.  When I look, the "Open iTunes ...." box is again checked. If I uncheck it again, the same thing happens again.
My computer's a bit underpowered, so starting a process I don't want to is kind of annoying, and I'd like to stop this.
    Any advice would be appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Eric

Finally figured this out.  I had assumed that the "start iTunes" option was separate for each computer, but apparently, it's a single option.  I had accidentally left it on at home, and since it syncs via WiFi every time I connect it to a charger, this always overwrote what I did at work.  Once I turned it off at home, it stayed off in both places.

  • Stop Photos from Launching when Iphone plugged it

I would like to stop the Photos application from launching every time I plug my iPhone into my computer.  There was a way to do it with iPhoto but I cannot seem to find a way with this new Photo app.  Has anyone figured it out or have I missed finding the instruction somewhere?
    Thanks

With your iPhone connected, let Photos launch one more time.
Enter the key combination ⌥⌘S to reveal the sidebar.
In the sidebar select your iPhone.
Disable the checkmark "Open Photos for this device":
    Then quit Photos.
Do the same in Image Capture, if necessary.
    In Image Capture:
The option has to be set for each device individually. With the device connected to USB, you have to click the tiny disclosure triangle in the lower left corner of the sidebar to reveal the option.

  • How do I prevent Elements from launching when I connect a flash drive?

When I connect a flash drive or SD card to my computer, Photoshop Elements automatically launches a component to save and organize my photos. I already have a system in place to organize my pictures so do not want to use the one from Elements. How do I prevent the program from launching automatically?

On Windows go to the Control Panel >> AutoPlay
And change your settings to “Always Ask” for photos and videos and save.
If your camera, phone or other devices are listed at the bottom you can also change those settings.

  • How can I stop iTunes from launching when I disconnect my Bluetooth device?

This has only become a problem recently. Whenever I disconnect -- not connect, disconnect -- my Bluetooth Bose SoundLink Mini speaker from my MacBook Pro iTunes will auto-launch. I am current with Mavericks and iTunes updates. There must be a configuration switch that can be tweaked to prevent this from occurring.
Has anyone else encountered this problem? Is there anyone who is a MacBook Pro "expert" who understands what the interactions are between the Bluetooth driver and app software and iTunes, and can speak with authority on what might be going on here?

  • How do I keep itunes from launching when I plug in my headphones

I have a set of Bose headphones with an inline mic/remote and there are times that I plug it into my Air Itunes with keep trying to launch and play music. I can close itunes and it will relaucnh. The only way to stop it is to disconnect the headphoes. I use these headphonoes on my ipad and iphone with no issue.
Any advice on how to stop this?
    Thank you,
    Justin

Normally, iTunes would only launch if you push the start/stop button of the remote.
Means, that if iTunes launches (and keeps re-launching) as soon as you connect the headphone, there's something wrong with the headphone jack in your Mac.
It can be as simple as requiring cleaning:
With the Mac shut down, try to blow the headphone jack out, e.g. with compressed air - you can get that in cans.
Do not use liquids! The one thing you may c-a-r-e-f-u-l-l-y do is using a cotton bud (Q-tip) and as little as possible isopropyl alcohol on it to clean it from sticky stuff. Repeat a few times, let it dry well before turning the Mac back on.

  • Preventing iTunes from launching when connecting iPhone?

I just want to put my iPhone in the cradle to charge it, not sync it or open any apps or anything else. Just charging. I have turned off the "automatic sync" feature in iTunes, so at least it doesn't sync every time i put my phone back, but I would really like to be able to not having to close iTunes all the time. It was easy fixing the auto-launch for iPhoto - is there a similar (or any, for that matter) that can fix the same thing for iTunes? Thx.
(BTW, I have all the software upgrades possible.)

There is a couple ways to accomplish this
    1. In the Summary screen uncheck automatically sync. Keep in mind you will now how to tell it when to sync.
    2. If you go to iTunes Preferences, then Syncing. You and Disable Syncing of any devices connecting to iTunes. And you will have to manually press the button to sync
    Hope this helps
