ITunes 8 won't burn audio cd's

iTunes will now only burn MP3 cd's. If I set it to burn audio cd's, it goes through the initial process (ie you can hear the drive working & iTunes displays message in top window that it's writing each song as it comes to it) but once it goes thru the writing process, a new window pops up (just like Windows XP launches when you put a new blank CD in the drive) indicating a new blank cd is in the drive -- and then nothing happens. It doesn't burn. Nor is there anything burned on the cd in the drive, that just got "written" to. The cd drive is fine. It burns cd's under windows and using other programs such as Roxio. In fact, I uninstalled Roxio thinking it might be causing a conflict w/ iTunes. No difference.
Any ideas, anyone???

This seems to be a common and, as of yet, unresolved issue. Check out: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1742251&tstart=0

  • G5 dual-core won't burn audio CDs

I have a brand new dual-core 2.0 Ghz G5. It won't burn audio CDs that play on any of my dedicated CD players.
The CD players are fine. In fact, I had a PB G4 that I used to burn CDs that play perfectly on all of them up until I got the G5. I have tried three different brands of CD-R media (Sony, Maxell, TDK - all of which worked just fine on the G4) to no avail. I've tried burning from both Toast and iTunes 6.0.1, at speeds as low as 2x. I even did a complete clean install of OS X and tried burning from a fresh user account (with iTunes 5.0.1). Same problem.
Here's what happens: the CD burns "successfully" in iTunes and Toast (no error messages), and it shows up on the desktop and in the iTunes menu and plays fine on my computer. But when I put it into a CD player and press play, it just spins around and around and doesn't ever start playing.
This is incredibly frustrating and I'm not sure what to do at this point. I have contacted Apple but they are hesitant to replace the optical drive. According to them, if it's burning CDs that play on my computer, then the drive is OK. They admitted that it might be more "sensitive" than my Powerbook's drive, and perhaps "incompatible" with my dedicated CD players. I asked them what the point of having a Superdrive is if it won't burn CDs that work on any dedicated CD players... well, the conversation got unpleasant after that.
If anyone has any ideas for how to troubleshoot this, or fix it, I'm all ears!
G5 2.0 dual-core   Mac OS X (10.4.3)   17" Apple LCD, iSight, Bluetooth Keyboard & Logitech Cordless Laser Mouse

I don't have the dual-core but experienced the same thing. I tried to burn a DVD after having my G5 for one year. It didn't burn the disk. I called Apple and no support for G5 not in warranty. I purchased a new DVD burner and didn't have any problems since. The old burner was a Sony, the new one a pioneer DVR 106D.
I recently purchased DL DVR Pioneer drive (DVR DL-110D) and I can't even put a CD in the drive to burn. Worst money I ever spent. Don't know how Apple is on support of the DL drives but I'm going back to the old DVR-106D!

before anyone says anything about my cd burner... since the upgrade
i've used nero to burn itune files to an audio cd just fine. it's
NOT the burner. also after the upgrade itunes imported a prerecorded cd
    with no problem.
now whenever i select "burn playlist to disc" itunes status appears  "preparing disc"
then error popup  comes up "The attempt to burn a disc failed. An unknown error occured (-3)"
i also tried burning WITHOUT "Include CD text"
i could use nero but prefer itunes for burning cd's... can anyone help?

I'm having a similar problem, but without any error message at all.
I have a number of audio files that I created myself using garage band.  These were converted by Quicktime to .mov audio files and loaded into my iTunes library.  Before I upgraded to Snow Leopard, I was able to burn audio cds from playlists containing these audio files with absolutely no problems.
After upgrading to Snow Leopard (OS 10.6.8) my software update told me that I also needed to update my iTunes.  What a mistake that was!
Now, when I select a playlist and tell it to burn an audio cd, it asks me to insert a blank disc.  Then it looks like it's starting to prepare the disk image - at least for a couple seconds.  Then it just quits and goes back to the state it was in before I attempted the burn.  The cd is still inside the drive and the only way I can eject it is to quit iTunes.
I might add that, since all these files are my own original creations, none of them are protected in any way, so there is no reason for iTunes not to allow them to be burned on as many cds that I want.
I know my disc burner is working because I am able to burn audio disks using the 3rd party software called "Burn."
The audio files are also OK, because I can play them in both iTunes and with Quicktime.
I really hope someone has an answer for this.  I need to burn a lot of CDs.  My church choir members use them to practice their singing parts.  The "Burn" application I am now forced to use works, but it is very awkward to use.  I wish I had never "upgraded" my system.  I GUESS IT REALLY WAS A DOWNGRADE!

  • ITunes 8 won't burn a CD

iTunes 8 won't let me burn a disc. It gets as far as finalizing and then freezes. I have wasted to discs with this problem. I have been able to burn discs before, but now it is not working. Just last week I burned a disc with no problem. I am using8 8.0.1. I thought about downgrading to iTunes 7, but then I won't be ab;e to play video, which is why I upgraded to 8 anyway. Does anyone know a fix for this or is this an apple bug? Thanks ahead of time for any help.

First and no I did not update. I did it on it's own.
Nope. Didn't work. The first try the disc processed in a second and popped out unburnt. When I put in back in it was considered a blank disc. iTunes was totally unresponsive and had to be forced quit. The second time I took the disc the new window that used to be in the Prefs popped, I set my settings and hit burn. My list was checked, the disc was "initialized", it said that the first song was being burned which took a second. The it says that it is finalizing the disc longer before it should. Sits there for a while . . . still finishing . . . . still . . . still . . . . finishing . . . . still . . . . I'm thinking the way it was with the iDisc and your write would take a second but the "finalizing" was the actual write that would show a spinning candy bar for the time it actually takes to write. Still finalizing. Still finalizing . . . . Oh and the first one after the disc ejected all windows became unresponsive, the app would not quit and had to force quit. Still finalizing and I have no idea what is happening or how long this is going to take. I'm not getting anything like we use to get in the progress window; showing each song as is was being processed and burnt with a time and progress thermometer.
Yup. Burning in iTunes 8.0.1 is broken.
    Oh, still finishing.
    20 minutes later . . . still finishing . . .
    40 minutes . . . . still finishing . . . .
Tried to stop it and it says that it will break the disc if I do and gives the option to or not.
iTunes screwed up my library ages ago and this might be the perfect reason to dump everything and start over with 7.2 that was the last best version that I remember.
    Still finishing . . . .
Stopped the disc. It says it is Canceling and it may take a minute or two. If that is on the Disk Util scale this could be a month.
    10 minutes still canceling . . . .
Since the disc is supposedly trash, I'm Force Quitting iTunes . . . .
Trying to eject via the keyboard, it won't. My second burner ejects just fine. Saved this post and will restart to see if the disc will eject. Be right back . . .
The disc ejected right before the desktop came up. And when mounted came up as a bank disc which the OS tried to burn, did, and it failed at the finish. Ejected it and remounted it, it came up as a blank disc that I then burnt some stuff that failed during finish. then in Toast it saw it as a blank disc and burnt some stuff and failed during the lead out. So I son' think it's completely iTunes, but had noticed in 10.5.x I can no longer burn on the run like I use to in 10.4.x. I did more testing with other media and applications (up to date) and nothing works as is used to. So . . . .
Apple so sad. I remember in OS9 every update was new, exciting, you'd have cool new features and a faster smoother running machine and it didn't leave a mess. Oh well . . . .

Best to update the firmware on your TSSTcorp DVD+-RW TS-L632H optical drive with that one.
Dell first fixed the bulk of the 2131 issues with that with the rev 300 A02 firmware, but there have been a lot of firmware updates issued by Dell since then, too, for that drive.
Probably the easiest way to update is to head to the dell Downloads and drivers page, and enter your Service tag:
    http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/
That should show you the latest available firmware version for the TSST drive.

  • Itunes wont read or burn audio CD

    Hello
Can anybody help me. I have Itunes with Win XP Pro and it wont read a CD, just keeps telling me to enter CD in Drive. I've run CD Diagnostics(there was an audio Cd in the drive at the time) with the following result, can anyone interrupt this for a numpty computer user like me and tell me what the problem is and what I should do?
Microsoft Windows XP Professional Service Pack 2 (Build 2600)

If you have multiple drives on the same IDE or SCSI bus, these drives may interfere with each other.
Some computers need an update to the ATA or IDE bus driver, or Intel chipset. If iTunes has problems recognizing CDs or hanging or crashing while importing or burning CDs, check the support site for the manufacturer of your computer or motherboard.

Well, the CD diagnostics thinks the drive empty. What happens if you go to Windows Explorer with an audio CD in the drive and try to explore the CD? Do other applications, like Windows Media Player see the CD?
For reference, the support site for your computer is here.

  • ITunes won't burn a CD after 10.4.7/6.0.5

This is an echo of the post, "iTunes won't burn audio or data CDs"
The subject pretty much says it. My Dual 2.3MHz G5 is a little over a year old. I noticed this yesterday, the first time I've tried burning an audio CD from iTunes since both updates. Whether I select the built-in superdrive or my LaCie FW CDR/DVDR, after clicking "burn CD", iTunes reads the playlist, checks the media, and begins the "initializing disk" task; but right then the iTunes display changes to "canceling disk burn", and displays an error window. The disk seems completely untouched. I seem to be able to burn a CD OK in Finder. I haven't tried making a non-audio CD in iTunes. I have restarted a couple of times, including a shut-down-and-cold-start. I am now officially out of clues.
Can anyone help? I am Terminal-friendly. TIA...
    PowerMac G5 Dual 2.3GHz   Mac OS X (10.4.7)   2.5GB RAM Radeon 9600 video

Another interesting idea. Didn't seem to do it for me. Went down to 2x, tried both my built-in and my external drives. One change is that I now see the "preparing disc" progress bar before getting the "canceling disc burn..."
Interesting, to compare with Kevin's, is that if I have a disc already inserted, it ejects and I need to re-insert.
I might try downgrading to 10.4.6 if I can figure out how to do it, and maybe to iTunes 6.0.4 (if I can find an installer). I'll report any results.
I sure hope this is some simple bug that gets fixed soon...

  • Itunes Won't burn a cd

When I first click on the iTunes icon to open it, a window comes up reading:
"The registry settings used by the iTunes drivers for importing and burning cd's and dvd's are missing. This can happen as a result of installing other cd burning software. Please reinstall iTunes."
Afterwards I tried to burn an audio cd from a playlist in my iTunes library, but an indicator reading "No disc Recording Software Found"
I reinstalled iTunes 4 times and even downloaded the update to no avail, iTunes still won't burn cd's. I have a Dell Diomension 2400 with a dvd/cd burner drive, the operating system is Windows XP with a Norton 360 security system. Over the past month I have been installing and downloading other programs that deal with cd's/dvd's but I'm still not totally sure what the issue is as many of these programs are now uninstalled (there is a window media player, a Real One Player, two Xilisoft converter programs were recently uninstalled and deleted as well as a cd audio convertor program).
I am not very computer literate so any help, insight or ideas would be appreciated.
    Thank you.

  • Itunes 5.1 won't burn mp3 to audio cd

Since upgrading to 5.1 I can't burn audio cd's from mp3 files anymore. Not just in itunes, but in RecordNow as well. All my music in itunes are mp3's and it was never a problem before to burn them into an audio file. In RecordNow I can still make data cd's and burn directly from cd to cd, but it also doesn't let me burn from mp3 to audio anymore. It seems that itunes 5.1 placed something in the registry that blocks converting mp3 to .wav. Does anyone know anything about this? The 5.1 upgrade has made my computer useless and Apple isn't saying anything about this at all.

This makes me believe that the latest upgrade created a serious conflict in my registry and I'm wondering if apple is doing anything to fix it.
have you submitted any CD diagnostics to Apple yet, Michael?
    http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/windows/cddiagnostics/
have you been able to find any troubleshooting information on the topic at the RecordNow-related websites? (googles on combinations of "RecordNow", "itunes" and "error" might pick up some independent troubleshooting, too.)
if you find any useful references, would you mind reporting back with links for us? if it really is a conflict between your version of RecordNow and itunes 5.0.x, other people will presumably be in your situation, and any information you turn up could be helpful for them too.

  • CD burner will not burn audio cds from iTunes

I have an Iomega external CD-RW burner that has been working perfectly until now. When I try to burn a cd from a playlist in iTunes, after inserting the blank cd... it says that it is checking the playlist, then the status goes to preparing to burn... and nothing happens. The drive almost appears to be unresponsive & itunes seems to have frozen, but they don't. So I have just ejected the disk and it's blank.
I've tried resetting the computer, power, changing the location of the usb connection, different cd-rs, nothing works.
I tried burning a data cd, which was successful. I just don't understand why it won't burn an audio cd from iTunes. Is there a problem with iTunes? Because it doesn't seem to be the cd burner since it is able to burn data cds.
Any help would be much appreciated. Thank you.

I think it has always been the case that for burning
CDs with iTunes, the requirement is that it is an

    or might not work.
I have used external burners in the past with no problems.

How did you burn the disk, as a data disk or as an audio CD (check your Burning preferences in iTunes)? If you burned the disk as a data disk, that's essentially just a backup and will only play in iTunes. You have to burn the disk as an audio CD to play it in any other player.
    Hope this helps.

  • TS1362 My blank cd says 80 min. or 700 MB. Playlist in Itunes says 1.6 hrs., 213 MB.  It won't burn, itunes says it won't fit onto cd.  What's up with this?

I don't understand why itunes won't burn my playlist to a blank CD.  CD-R says 80 min, or 700 MB.  Playlist shows 176 MB, 25 songs, 1.3 hrs.  I don't understand why it won't fit onto one CD.

If you are burning an audio CD, use the time/length of the playlist.
If you are burning and MP3/data CD, use teh size (MB) of the playlist.
Note that there needs to be room for directories and other info on teh disc which will nto be displayed in teh size of the playlist.
The disc may hold 80 minutes but a playlist of 80 minutes will not fit.
Usually, you can get ~70 minutes max.

  • When I move audio from itunes it won't play in the movie. How do I fix that ?

When I move a song from iTunes into a movie, it won't play when I play the movie.  The movie file might be too big.
    How do I fix that?

    Hi
To get my Audio working I do
    • only use .aiff 44.1kHz or 48kHz
    • .mp3, .wma etc - all I convert to .aiff first
    • from iTune - I do - Collect needed audio into a new PlayList - Then I burn this as an Audio-CD (not .mp3 - only .aiff) - then I use the files from this Audio-CD in my movie projects
And by doing like this - I have very few Audio problems.
    Yours Bengt W
