ITunes 9.0.1 forgets Audible authentication

Every time I start up iTunes 9.0.1 I have to re-authorize my Audible.com account. This only happens on my newest computer and only affects the Audible authorization (not the iTMS authorization). The main reason this is annoying is because if I have my iPod plugged in when iTunes starts, it deletes all Audible content from my iPod (and then takes 10 minutes to re-upload the content once it's authorized).
Here is a list of all the things I have checked/tried (in various combinations, as well).
+ Repair permissions
+ Run disk repair
+ Make sure the user has Admin privileges
+ Toggle Admin privileges off/on
+ Create a new Admin user, copy iTunes Library to it
+ Create a new Admin user, download a single Audible file directly from Audible to it (i.e. try it with one file instead of whole library)
+ Reset permissions of iTunes Library (and all subfolders) to insure that user has Read&Write privileges for everything
+ Delete hidden "SC Info" directory in /Users/Shared
+ Confirm a new "SC Info" directory is created when iTunes is opened
+ Confirm a new item "SC Info.sidd" is created in the "SC Info" Directory
+ Confirm that /Users/Shared and all the "SC Info" files/directories have privileges such that "system", "wheel" and "everyone" have Read&Write privileges
+ Reinstall iTunes
+ Delete iTunes .plist files
+ Deauthorize my other computer (in case the problem was too many authorized computers)
+ Reinstall Mac OS X Snow Leopard (did not do what in the past would have been called a "clean install" by deleting the hard drive first)
The computer in question is a Mac Mini (Early 2009). It came with Leopard installed, but I got a separate copy of Snow Leopard. So the first thing I did was set up the computer with a temporary account, install Snow Leopard, then copy my old user profile over from Time Machine. The old user profile had been used on a Leopard-based computer. Then I deleted the temporary profile.
The only other clue I can give is that the Flash Plugin was acting up and the only thing that fixed it was creating a new user and moving all of my files over to that user. So now I'm running everything from this new user account. It worked for my Flash problem but not for this Audible authorization problem.
The only other thing I can think of to try is fully delete the hard drive, install from scratch and set up a new user and don't copy any of the preference files over from the old user(s). Which seems like a huge PITA and still may not work. Any other suggestions?

OK... So I did the whole start-from-scratch thing, and that seemed to work.
Erased the disk, installed Snow Leopard, copied over applications and data, but not preference files. Kind of a pain because I had to reset all my preferences from scratch, but not the end of the world. Biggest PITA was finding the registration codes for those few applications/utilities that need codes typed in. I guess I could have copied those few preference files, but digging them out of the nested folders would have been just as big a pain as tracking down the registration codes. At least this way I have a truly clean install.
Still would have been much easier if I could have found the magic "delete this preference file and restart" fix. Oh, well.

You need to ask Apple to reset your security questions; this can be done by clicking here and picking a method, or if your country isn't listed, filling out and submitting this form.
They wouldn't be security questions if they could be bypassed without Apple verifying your identity.

  • ITunes crashes when I open Audible books?

iTunes 10.6.1 crashes on my iMac (10.7.3, 4 GB) whenever I try to open, play or interact in any way with Audible books. This is new in the last 2-3 weeks.
I have tried (Command) O, drag n drop, double click on file and "add to library". Every time it crashes. I have sent reports to Apple. I can add the files to iTunes Library, but they never open in iTunes without crashing it.
Everything in my Audible account looks appropriate so I don't think it's that end?
Anyone with similar issues? Or, better, a solution? I am going to try backing up and re-downloading the app, I think.
    Thanks!

Okay. Problem solved. I re-downloaded itunes 10.6.1. The download overwrote the old iTunes. I went to Audible, downloaded a book and it opened in iTunes. I still can't import a book from my hard drive, but maybe the files were corrupted somehow.

  • Installing iTunes on VMWare caused iTunes on Mac to forget where songs are.

I have (had) a pristine iTunes library on my Mac. Two days ago downloaded and installed iTunes for Windows (64) on my VMWare partition. For some reason this caused about 1/2 of the songs in iTunes on the Mac to forget where they are (i.e. the exclamation point problem). The original files have not been moved, and if I do the locate option I can find them - but I don't want to do this on at a time.
How can I get my iTunes library back in order?

I also have this problem, but on my 64-bit Windows 7 desktop. My income level no longer permits me to purchase Apple computers. Anything that I've bought off of the iTunes store, most of it's ten to six years old, will not play any further than 2:34. I just knew when I agreed to this "protected music" business I'd find myself a decade down the line staring at an expensive but unplayable music collection.

  • Can't connect my Palm Zire to iTunes in order to download Audible books

This identical question was posted last Nov 05 and did not get an answer...I am hoping I can get some help because I am very frustrated.
I cannot get Audible for Palm (main or card) to show up under SOURCES in iTunes when I try to "enable communication" between my device and iTunes. Therefore, I can no longer drag my Audible file to my Zire 31. This happened shortly after I started using my Intel iMac G5 with Tiger. I had been transferring Audible books to my Zire 31 for at least a year on my G4 running Panther...I've redownloaded Audible for Palm and done a complete reinstall of the Palm OS, but no luck. I've contacted audible.com, but so far they haven't been able to figure it out either! They say they think it is a Tiger problem. If anyone has any ideas please HELP....I can't listen to my books anymore. Elena

Hi! I have an iMac G5 running Tiger 10.4.6
    I own a Palm Tungsten T5 running OS 5
    I went to this link:
    http://www.audible.com/adbl/store/audibletogo.jsp?BV_UseBVCookie=Yes
downloaded the iTunes Palm OS 5 plug-in
deleted Audible off of my Palm
reinstalled Audible (after the plug-in is installed, it puts Audible player in your install list on the Palm desktop) (the plug-in is for OS5 devices)
    Quit and restarted iTunes
Ran Audible on my Palm, selected enable communications and waited! Not only did my Palm show up, but, I had my 1 GB card in a card reader and it showed up in the Sources list in iTunes, also!
I dragged my audio book downloaded from Audible to the Card and voila! I have it!
    Hope this help!

  • Itunes won't load my audible files

trying to load my audible music to itunes and it won't do it...any suggestions

I don't think Audible format files are supported by iTunes.  These are music files?  You will have to find a converter.  You can check something like Switch but Audible is a somewhat proprietary format and isn't always easy to convert.

  • I can't get 1 book purchased on itunes to sync to my iphone.  Songs from itunes sync and books from audible sync, but this one won't

I purchased a book from the itunes store and I can't get it to sync to my iphone.  All the music from the itunes store syncs fine and books from audible sync to my iphone fine.  Does anyone know why the book from itunes won't sync?

Check the book's info. Some books are iPad only.

  • ITunes installs with an authorized audible account

My problem is, I'd like to use Home Sharing but keep getting the 5506 error when logging into my AppleID, which as per other threads requires you de-authorize itunes and login with your account. I haven't authorized iTunes to use any audible accounts, its a clean install on a freshly installed Windows machine running Windows 7, but under the Advanced tab it says de-authorize audible account. How do I de-authorize if it was never authorized in the first place?

    many thanks.
    That should be possible.
From his library connect to your library via Home Sharing.
Select the name of the shared library in the source pane of your itunes, and click on the wee disclosure triangle to the left of the name of the library. Does "Films" appear beneath the name of the library?
    Here's a screenshot of what I mean.
Select "Films". In the right-hand pane you should see the item you want to transfer. Just select that item, and click "Import".
Use the same basic technique to get one or a few songs from your library transferred to his library. (The only difference is that you would have "Music" selected instead of "Films".
If you don't want him to have access to other items in your library, you could just switch Home Sharing off on his library after you've done the transfers.

  • My ipod touch has stopped being recognised by itunes following trying to download a book from audible.  It sees it as a camera

Can anyone help me?  My ipod touch has stopped syncrinising with itunes following a download from audible.  It seems to be recognised as a camera.  The ipod sign dows not come up in the left hand side of itunes.

I have now removed and re-installed every piece of Apple Software on my laptop. I assume this would result in the drivers being re-installed.
However, when I plug the iPOD in a message comes up 'Installing Device Drivers'. Then a message comes up that they are installed successfully, but it does also say 'Searching folders for preconfigured drivers...'. After 10 mins I assumed this did not mean anything and closed the window.
It is not convenient for me to check the other computer's drivers. Anyway, the iPOD used to work on this computer. The only thing I have done on this computer re device drivers is to start using a USB mouse (which installed drivers) and I also checked them all for updates. Only the Intel ones updated.
Needless to say the iPOD is still unrecognised in iTunes.
    Any further help much appreciated.

  • ITunes using anonymous authentication through proxy

    Hi All,
We have a bit of an issue here at work, we are trying to update our iPads to the latest version of IOS and they get as far as verifying the update with the apple servers and then we get a 3004 error.
Looking into this further, it seems that what is happening is that iTunes is using anonymous authentication with our proxy server (Microsoft ISA) as looking at the logs from ISA reveals it denies the connection due to anonymous authentication being used.
Is there a way that I can make iTunes use my windows credentials when authenticating or are there any other ways around this?

Fixed by not using a proxy. If you have a proxy, then you can't update your iPod through iTunes - and, because that is the only way you can do it now, you are stuck!
