ITunes 9.0.2 Crashes Trying to Access iTunes Music Store on Startup
HI, everyone,
I installed iTunes 9.0.2 today in preparation for an iPhone software upgrade, but iTunes freezes 100% of the time just after it starts up and tries to access the iTunes Music Store. There's a bit of activity in the progress bar when iTunes first starts, and then the progress bar for accessing the store shows half way finished and the program crashes (every time).
I've reinstalled, rebooted, removed and replaced the preference files and my library, all to no avail.
I'm running WinXP Pro SP 3, patches all up to date, but now I can't access my library on my computer nor can I upgrade my iPhone.
Others of you have had similar problems; one of you reported a "parental control" issue with CA security suite. I have Trend Micro and can't find any parental controls to deal with.
I have IE 8 installed but use Firefox 3.0.15.
This has been a horrible day. I have many papers to grade for my college classes and expected the installation to go smoothly (as the ones in the past have; iTunes 8 worked great).
Please help!
Dan

Hi, b noir,
No, I'm afraid I don't have Nod32 installed. I wish I did--maybe a simple fix!
I'm working from home using the laptop the school supplied me. It's a domain machine, and Trend Micro's OfficeScan is installed but it's offline (though it seems to be working). The Windows firewall is disabled, probably because of the school's antivirus installation, so there doesn't seem to be a setting I can access.
I'd guess something on my machine is forcing iTunes to free as it starts to access the Music Store. My heart just sinks every time I start iTunes (dozens of times today), only to see it freeze solid every single time I open it.

ITunes 6 crashes when I access the Music Store
If I click on the Music Store or Shopping Cart in the playlist column, iTunes 6 attempts to access the music store, then crashes. This wasn't happening with iTunes 5. I use MacOS 10.4 and QuickTime 7.0.3. Is this happening to anyone else?
Matthew, thanks for posting. I'm having the same problem and it is driving me crazy.

Itunes 6.0.1 tries to go to music store on startup
How do I keep itunes from trying to go to the music store when I plug my iphone into the computer? There must be settings somewhere but I sure can't fine them.
I only use itunes to load an occasional photo onto my phone. I don't have any interest in the rest of it other than an app or two but I can do those on my phone.I must be the only person with an iPhone who just wants a phone. Well, it was worth a try. Thanks anyway, pards. When my contract runs out, I'll try the new Nokia.

Trying to access itunes store pop up is continually on screen
Since the upgrade to 10.2 this morning I cannot seem to get rid of the pop up "trying to access itunes store." I click cancel, it goes away for about 5 seconds and comes right back. I was able to purchase and download a song however the pop up appeared multiple times throughout the process. It's to the point where the itunes store is nearly unusable.
I tried a reinstall of 10.2 to no avail. Any help would be appreciated.Took the same route as ricin beans,
Complete reinstall, as painful as it was... at least it all works now.
Luckily I've only had my MBP a week and hadn't had anything on it other than music to export/import, no doubt others aren't so lucky and still waiting for Apple's cure, if they ever provide one. -

You'll be most likely to get help with this issue if you ask in the general iTunes for Windows forums.

Hello Rick,
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
There are a couple of things that could be affecting your ability to connect to the iTunes Store. Take a look at the section on Troubleshooting issues on an iPhone, iPad or iPod touch in the following article:

Your library should be fine, but you ought to back it up regularly.

When I start up Itunes, it constantly tries to access itunes store.
I've cleared cache, reinstalled itunes, de-authorised and authorised to no avail.I am having similar issues since I downloaded the newest version of itunes. On random songs from my library (mostly purchased through itunes) I am asked to authorize the playing of the song!! What the ****, obviously I want to play the song or I wouldn't have clicked on it! I payed for this music and I should be able to listen to it when and how I want, with or without an internet connection.
Someone please help me! I have never had any problems with itunes before, but this one is going to make me crazy! -
When trying to access i tunes store when in I Tunes i cannot connect to the internet - any thoughts? i have tried un-installing and re-installing but no joy
Close your iTunes,
Go to command Prompt -
(Win 7/Vista) - START/ALL PROGRAMS/ACCESSORIES, right mouse click "Command Prompt", choose "Run as Administrator".
(Win XP SP2 n above) - START/ALL PROGRAMS/ACCESSORIES/Command Prompt
In the "Command Prompt" screen, type in
netsh winsock reset
Hit "ENTER" key
Restart your computer.
If you do get a prompt after restart windows to remap LSP, just click NO.
Now launch your iTunes and see if it is working now.
If you are still having these type of problems after trying the winsock reset, refer to this article to identify which software in your system is inserting LSP:

Why MBP heats when working in target disk mode?
I connect my MBP to iMac using target disk mode through Thunderbolt interface, close the lid and work on iMac booted from MBP's disk. My understanding is that in this mode MBP should consume very little energy because CPU and GPU are mostly inactive.
