Itunes 9.0 Am I screwed?

First post. My Daughters I-pod touch locked up with a picture of the itunes logo and a USB cord on the screen. When i plugged it into my computer it took me right into my itunes library and said that I need to update to 9.0. I started the down load and everything went downhill from that moment. As the down load started I kept getting a quick time error box telling me my quick time needs to be updated. If I click on cancel, the error box appeared every 5 seconds. If I clicked on do it now, it showed what I needed, started the download and then completely locked up my computer, I couldn't do anything and couldn't get out of it. I restarted the computer and noticed my itunes icon looked different. instead of it being the I-tunes logo it was just a plane white box that had i-tunes under it. When I click on it, it tells me i-tunes does not exist. When I went to the I-tunes site to download 9.0 again it started up with the quick time (out of date)errors again!! I completely uninstalled quick time, re-installed it from the apple site, and then tried to go into itunes again. I received the same messages, i-tunes does not exist and Quick time needs to be updated (urrrrrrr). I'm not the best at computers. I use word, excel, etc in my job but I don't even own my own I-pod. I have i-tunes for my three young kids and wife. Can you please tell me first if I have lost all the songs we have paid for over the years? Next, how in the heck can I down load the most current versions of I-tunes 9.0 and Quick Time when it seems the 2 are stopping each other?? My 6 year old recieved a new I-pod Nano from Santa Claus and hasn't been able to listen to any songs on it because it requires I-tunes 9.0! Any help you could give me would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

I am not sure if this will help but it can't make things worse. You might benefit from uninstalling all the iTunes related programs and then using the Microsoft Installer cleanup utility to clean up any that didn't uninsatll properly, it sounds as though that might be the case for iTunes.
Here is the method:
== uninstall with cleanup ==
Download a fresh copy of iTunes and the stand alone version of Quicktime (the one without iTunes)
http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/win.html
http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
*Save the files on your PC rather than trying to run them from your browser.*
Download and install Microsoft Installer cleanup utility, there are instructions on the page as well as the download. Note that what you download is the installer not the program – you have to run it to install the program. The installer doesn't give any message to confirm the installation.
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301/
(To run the program – All Programs>>Windows Install)
Now use the following method to remove iTunes and its components:
XP
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1925
Vista
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1923
*If you hit a problem with one of the uninstalls don't worry*, carry on with the deleting of files and folders as directed in the method.
When you get to deleting Quicktime files in the system32 folder as advised in the method, you can delete any file or folder with Quicktime in the name.
Restart your PC.
Run the Microsoft Installer Cleanup Utility. (Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up)
Remove any references you find to the programs you removed - strictly speaking you only need to worry about those programs where the uninstall failed.
If you don’t see an entry for one of the programs that did not uninstall, look out for blank entries or numeric entries that look like version numbers e.g. 7.x for Quicktime or 1.x for Bonjour.
restart your PC
Install the stand alone Quicktime and check that it works.
If it does, install iTunes.

  • Itunes 7.0.1.8 screws up all my TV shows!!!

Prior to this latest itunes "upgrade," I had downloaded many TV shows and I'd never had a problem. Now with the latest itunes both old and new videos skip, hesitate and the sound is out of sync with the actors lips. The worst example is the episode called Uncle from Law & Order:SVU which I was foolish enough to just purchase. This is so screwed up it's unwatchable. And as a test, I pulled up an episode from last year that was fine before BUT IT'S NOW SCREWED UP TOO!
Plus, it took way too long to download the episode called Uncle. It used to take about 5 minutes to download an episode. I have broadband and 1 GB of memory. It took 15 MINUTES just to get a crappy TV episode. God knows what it would take to get a movie. I'm not buying another thing until this is all straightened out. How could apple put such a piece of junk out there for your customers. This is a disgrace.
If anybody knows how to revert to an earlier version of itunes, please let me know. Thanks.
p.s. Please get that annoying video control thing out of the middle of my videos. I don't want to wait until it decides to go away.

Thank you for the suggestion, b noir. I appreciate the response. Here's what I did given the trouble shooting directions:
1)Disable Direct3D video acceleration in QuickTime -- I did this but it didn't fix the problems, so I re-enabled it again.
2)Disable DirectX in QuickTime -- I then did this. The problems persisted. I think disabling this may have even made things worse so I re-enabled it also.
3)Modify your System Drive Configuration -- I checked these and they are already set as recommended.
I have no problems with color, so that leaves drivers. Yikes. I don't want to screw up everything else on the computer. What kind of drivers are we talking about? I'm going to check the Dell website but I'm not exactly clear what I should be looking for.

  • Itunes 7 smart playlists all screwed up

so i noticed my smart playlists are all screwy with the new itunes. for example. i have my genres in different catagories like rock and rap. anytime when im editing a smart playlist and i choose an option of "this genre DOES NOT CONTAIN" it screws up the entire genre selection. im getting rap songs in my rock catagories... anyone else having this problem?

Maybe it's something related to your iTunes library files. Close iTunes, go to your iTunes music folder, copy the .itl and .xml files and make a copy of them anywhere you want, then delete them from your iTunes music folder. Open the "Previous iTunes Libraries" folder in your iTunes music folder, copy the .itl file and paste it where the other .itl library file was (your iTunes music folder). Now, change its name like this: if it's called iTunes Library 09-12-06, rename it just "iTunes Library" (.itl). Hopefully that'll do the trick. Reopen iTunes and check everything is OK.

  • ITunes 7 and 7.01 screws with my computer

After installing iTunes 7 I just now realized it BOGS down my computer and even my windows load time on start up. For whatever reason, the crap it loads when windows is booting, it takes my wireless network card 2 extra minutes to initialize.
Nuts to iTunes 7 and to new iPod firmware which was also screwy.

Have you tried playing the downloaded song in iTunes, while connected to the internet? The authorization process for the song would be the same (probably) as you're logging in here, presuming you bought it with the same id.
This presumes that you haven't hit the limit of authorized computers.
Just making sure of the basics.

  • Can anyone explain why, every few weeks or so - itunes on my iMac simply screws up and is unable to access my library - insisting on downloading the latest version of iTunes (already installed, by the way)?

This means that I have to recover my apps form my iphone - I can do that and then recreate ALL of my playlists.  Labourious and extremely irritatating.
I suspect, that itunes is just another flakey product - more trouble than it's worth.  Unfrotunately, we are stuck with it if wanting to use iPhones, ITouch etc.
It would appear that the only way to backup up playlists form iTunes is to do them individually - ludicrous.  Is there anything out there that cn back ALL playlists in a stroke?
    Cheers!
    Mike

  • ITunes Home Library Setting is screwed up

I purchased a new computer and I am trying to transfer my iTunes music from my old to my new computer.  My new comp. will not recognize my old computer's library under the shared library but my old comp. DOES recognizes my new comp.  What is going on?

when I try to shut off my laptop it says that program 'itunes is not responding' but instead its got some Chinese writing in it as if Chinese programmed itunes???
have currently got Norton Internet Security 2005 installed on that PC? (you mentioned having uninstalled it at some stage.)
i call that the "Asian boxes dialog". if you don't have Asian character sets enabled on the PC, that long string of characters appears as non-printing characters (empty boxes). it's most commonly associated with the nastier versions of NIS 2005 itunes launch suppression (along with things like long slow shutdowns, and ccApp.exe end program dialogs).
if you've got NIS 2005, try giving the trusty Lorraine M technique a whirl:

  • ITunes upgrade to iPhone OS screwed my iPhone

I plugged in my iPhone 3GS to iTunes and received the message that a new version of the OS was available. So, I sadly chose to install that update. After downloading extracting and then attempting to install i got a message "An unknown error occured". I have tried everything in all the post about turning off virus protection, turned off firewall, etc. Still won't restore and I have no iPhone at this point. What a joke!

I believe it was error (10).
After deleting the *.ipsw file from my computer (several times) and finally getting iTunes to recognize it as a new iPhone it installed the new firmware to 3.1.3. I then got lucky and had a backup and i got the restore to work. So, I only lost a few apps that weren't on my backup.
So... if you are stuck in recovery mode after attempting to upgrade OS, I would suggest that you keep deleting the ipsw file on your system and restarting iTunes and plugging in your iPhone. Like I said... it took several times before that finally worked for me.
Probably last time I accept any updates from Apple.

  • ITunes 10.7.0.21 problems on a Windows Vista laptop

    Hi,
Right, I've been runnning iTunes on my Acer Extensa 5220 laptop for the past three years, with minimal problems. Today, however, and iTunes has decided to totally screw-up!
I recently updated from old iTunes 10.X version (sorry, I don't know the exact version number) to the new 10.7.0.21 edition, and everything seemed fine. Now, however, iTunes won't load-up at all. Nothing. Nada. Zip.
In my iTunes folder, iTunes.exe is now just 9548kb in size (9.5mb roughly). I've tried running the Repair facility, but that just crashes as soon as you hit the Repair button. (Utterly useless that was!)
I don't want to delete stuff, as it will take me forever to re-install all my music, apps, pictures and other assorted files back into iTunes. I've tried various other recommendations to fix this problem, including the numerous solutions in this very Forum (fixing Bonjour, deleting or repairing all pieces of Apple Software, trying the Apple Software Updater, etc, etc), but all to no avail.
I can't even download a fresh copy of iTunes 10.7.0.21 direct from Apple UK themselves, as when I did that just a few moments ago, the 75mb (approx) file downloaded, and created a new iTunes icon on my desktop, but that doesn't do anything either!
What the **** is Apple playing at, releasing a piece of software that is - going from all the problems that people are mentioning on the Internet - clearly substantially buggy and/or problematic?!
Sort this out Apple! This is NOT acceptable!
    Pooch

All sorted now. Thread can be closed!

  • Iphone 3GS no longer connects to computer or Itunes.

I have a decomissioned Iphone 3GS that I've been using as an Itouch (I don't use the phone features). Up until today it would connect to my computer and Itunes with no problems. When I had to uninstall a bunch of stuff and reinstall the new Itunes (the update is what screwed everything up) since I had a C++ runtime error R6034. Now I finally have Itunes again however my Iphone no longer wants to connect to my computer or Itunes. There is no beep from the USB no syncing, nada. The only thing it does is charge...which is only sort of helpful. I've tried two different cables, restarted my computer, restarted my Iphone. I just want it to connect so I can get my new music. Does anyone have any suggestions. Preferable if I didn't have to restore my Iphone.

    Hi gofroggy08,
    Welcome to the Support Communities!
It's possible that the iTunes software didn't update properly.   Try the specific steps below for the iPhone first:
iOS: Device not recognized in iTunes for Windows
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1538
If the issue is not resolved, you may need to uninstall iTunes and all of it's components, and reinstall the latest version as explained in this article:
iTunes 11.1.4 for Windows: Unable to install or open
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS5376
I hope this information helps ....

  • Downgraded to itunes 6.0.5 and still having problems. HELP

I just downgraded from 7 to 6.0.5 and for whatever reason itunes still slows down the whole works when ripping, rips at really slow (3-4x) speeds, and plays all garbled when trying to do more than one thing at a time (i.e. use any other program in conjunction with itunes). Have I somehow screwed up the downgrade? I had been running 6 before I made the mistake of upgrading and it ran flawlessly. Has anyone else had this problem after downgrading? Please help.

Well I decided I may as well go ahead and re-install 7 since 6 wasn't working any better. This is my third time installing 7 and for some unknown reason it works flawlessly now??? Apple, what the f*ck is up with this software?

  • ITunes Screen Resolution bigger than Window

      Hello,
Everytime I load iTunes the screen resolution is screwed up, almost as if iTunes is sized for a different screen size?  I do sometimes connect my Macbook Pro to a television so I'm not sure if that is part of the problem.   Any idea what I'm doing wrong?
    Thanks

Thank you so much, michaelc. I'm not that expert to manage those terminal lexicum, but you gave me the clue for solving this problem on my MacBook.
What I did, which results easier than anything else, was replacing the file "AppConfig.plist" on "Spanish.lproj" with a copy of the file with the same name on "English.lproj", and voilá!
That's such annoying that this bug hasn't been fixed, not yet on iTunes 11.0.2. iTunes feedback seems to go nowhere…
PS: Please, michaelc, answer the discussion I posted about the same topic, so I can mark your answer as the correct one.

  • ITunes photo sync button causes crash

I'm using Windows XP and iTunes 7. I'm trying to add photos to my iPod Nano, and since the only way to do that is through iTunes, I'm kind of screwed. Here's why:
Whenever I click on the check box that would sync a photo folder to my iPod, iTunes just crashes. I've tried restarting everything, and tried restoring my iPod. Nothing seems to work, and I'm STILL on hold with tech support, and have been for about 10 minutes.
So if anyone can help with this problem, that would be awesome, because I'm pretty irritated at this point.
    Windows PC   Windows XP

OK so i got mine working, hope this helps..
1.Restore iPod to factory settings (if you don't mind wiping your iPod clean)
2.When it reconnects, Itunes will ask you if you want to automatically sync Music and/or Photos when you connect. I said no to Music but YES to Photos. (previously i said no to both)
3.Once setup is finished, click on your iPod in Itunes, and now if you go to the PHOTO tab instead of crashing when you click "Sync photos from" it is now already ticked, and you can then select a folder to import photos from the options on the right!
After all i tried to fix this problem all i had to do it seems, was to tell itunes to "auto sync photos" during the setup process.
    Hope this helps you!
    Please let me know!
Oh and sorry for the rough translation. I was so excited getting it all to work that I rushed this so i could get the info to you!

  • Multiple music drive sources messes up song locations in iTunes XML library

I have had my music on an external hard drive for a number of years now. Most of my music library is on that drive (75+GB), but some (including all purchased stuff) is on my local C: drive. I often launch iTunes without my external drive (USB) connected and it has always worked fine with just the music on my local drive. Recently, I connected the external drive to recycle some music on/off my iPod. When I did this, none of the songs on the external drive were available anymore (! shows up). All the music is there, but somehow the iTunes library XML file got screwed up. When I opened up the XML file, it contains all the songs, but their original locations (which were F: drive) now point to my local C: location. I am really upset that iTunes would do this without my intervention. Why can’t it leave file locations alone? Do I need to reload everything again (File->Add Folder)? Are there any shortcuts or ways to prevent this from happening again? This has happen to me a few times of the years. Thanks…
    Dell Laptop   Windows XP

As you've found, if you go ahead and use iTunes when
the external drive isn't connected, iTunes defaults
the library locations back to the C: drive....and
    messes up your iTunes library.
Mmmm... actually, that shouldn't happen. I did this same thing for quite a while with no issues. It never moved all my files to a new "location" that way. Only thing that happens was that the library location setting got defaulted to C:, the file pointers themselves remained unchanged.
I don't know how he accomplished this, but you are right that there's no quick fix.

  • ITunes 7.0.2 Random Crashes

iTunes 7.0.2 crashing randomly and repeatedly. Playback...crash. Import...crash. Transfering tunes to iPod...crash. Download from iTunes Store...crash. Delete selection to trash...crash. Select option in iTunes preferences...crash.
I installed the latest version of iTunes 7 as soon as it was available and it worked just fine for a couple of months, and then...crash!
I have made no other changes to the mac for some time before or since all this started.
I am seriously hacked off with this iTunes situation... it screws up every time I use the application... which is almost every time I turn the mac on!
Any help on offer would be greatly appreciated.

sorry about the delay, Nano Second.
it would be good to get a look at the blue screen information ... but i'm totally in sympathy with the idea of minimising the number of times your PC blue screens.
so let's also set up the PC to generate a minidump for the blue screen. (that way, if we don't get helpful info from the blue screen itself, we can send a copy of the minidump for the crash through to the Apple Engineers for a look. so we only have to "experimentally" blue screen the PC once more before we try fixing the problem.)
To set up your machine to capture a minidump, right click on "My Computer", select "Properties", select the "Advanced" tab, select the "Startup and Recovery" Settings button, select "small memory dump" from the popup. When it crashes, look for the MiniDump file. It's usually in the folder "C:\WINDOWS\Minidump" and is called something like Mini<number>-<number>.dmp.
Find that file and send it as an attachment to this email address.
in the email to Roy, be sure to include the following information:
    - A link to the thread on Apple Discussions where the issue is being discussed
    - The username you are using in the thread
    - The version of iTunes you are using or trying to use
    - the version of Windows you are using (mention service packs)
    - A concise description of the issue you are seeing
