ITunes 9.1.1 with Tiger 10.4.11

I have a PPC G4 iMac (flat screen) running OS X 10.4.11 on a wireless network with two other Macs, one running 10.5.8 and the other 10.6.3. I have always shared music libraries on the network between machines but have run into problems with iTunes 9.1.1.
Updater suggested that I upgrade iTunes to 9.1.1 a few days ago. I installed the update. The new iTunes also wanted me to update Safari and Java, but the specs on the new Safari say that it does not support 10.4.11, so I just left iTunes partially functional.
The next day the iMac would not start up. I would get a grey screen with a square box filled with random colored pixels instead of the Apple icon. It would not start up in Safe Mode. After many hours and multiple failed attempts to archive and install, run disc utilities, etc. I just went ahead and did a clean install.
Now my pristine and empty iMac is running great again -- with iTunes 4.7.1 -- but will not recognize the music libraries on the other networked Macs. I would still like to share my music libraries -- that's one of my main uses for this good old machine -- but I'm afraid to totally screw things up again.
Is there an intermediate version of iTunes that is compatible with my other machines and will not fry my iMac?
Thanks!
CG3

Hmm, I see from your link there is a version specific to Tiger. After several days of this nightmare, to tell you the truth I can't remember where I saw that. Maybe in the updater itself??
I've also had very bad luck with Java updates on this iMac in the past. It seems that every time I install the suggested updates the whole system fails. Very hesitant to install anything on this particular machine that is not crucial.

  • Where can I find a version of iTunes that is compatible with Tiger and access podcasts for me?

All the auto upgrades are installed - Tiger up to v 10.4.11 - but when I click on podcasts the window opens in a feedback loop to upgrade iTunes via the iTunes Store, where I cannot go anwhere without creating a new id and offering up my credit card details !!!!!!!!!  this isn't the apple I knew and loved.

Get more information about your computer. Go to the Apple in the upper left corner of any window, then  "About This Mac".  Write down what it says about "version"and report that here.  Now continue to "More Info..."  Copy and paste the information here, but omit the serial number and Hardware UUID (if present).
You can upgrade to Snow Leopard, but check system requirements first, particularly RAM ("memory") from the previous step:
    Snow Leopard 10.6 Technical Requirements - http://support.apple.com/kb/SP575
You can buy Snow Leopard at:
Snow Leopard disc source - http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573Z/A/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard
After installing run the updater to 10.6.8, then upgrade iTunes.

  • Frustrated, trying to find an itunes that will work with my OS!!!!

Does anyone know where I can get an itunes that is compatible with Tiger 10.4.2? I had itunes 7.?? working just fine and I upgraded to a point where it would not work anymore. I've tried finding older downloads, ie 6.0.5 and 7.7 but none of them worked. Does apple not expect users of 10.4.2 to ever use itunes?? Any pointer in the right direction would be much appreciated!!! Thanks in advance!

I'm running iTunes 7.7 on OS 10.3.9. You should be able to run that version on your current OS, but is there any reason that you can't update your Tiger to the most recent version of 10.4.11? With 10.4.11, you could run iTunes 8, the most recent version.
If you want version 7.7, you can download it here: http://support.apple.com/downloads/iTunes77

  • How can I transfer my ical and itune lib from PowerPc using Tiger to imac 2013 using Mavericks

    Hi,
I have an imac G5 powerPc with Tiger 10.4.11, and recently got an imac 2013 with osx Mavericks.
    Thanks

You can move your iTunes music Library folder to external media from the G5 to the Mavericks machine and point a modern version of iTunes at it.
I don't know what you'll have to do with your Contacts, however.

  • How to save/reinstall 9.2 iTunes, programs, when switching to Tiger?

    Hi, fellow Macphiles!
I've got some serious questions about switching to Tiger. I hope some of you can help me!
For starters, I've been extremely reluctant to switch to OS X - period. I've been pretty comfy with OS 9.2 for a long time. But, alas, looks like the time's come to switch to not only a new computer, but Tiger, as well. So, here goes!
    1. I have over 3 GB of iTunes on my computer. I'd like to save them and then transfer them to iTunes on the new computer I plan on getting (I'd be, of course, using the iTunes program that comes w/Tiger). How would I do that to make sure they work with Tiger's iTunes program? I don't have any huge Zip discs or anything major save 3 GB's of anything to.
    2. I have Adobe Photoshop on my current computer. How would I save it and the transfer that program to a new Mac? Just put it on disc and then install it on the new Mac?
    3. I've been using Outlook Express as my email client. How would I save my messages and other things in OE to transfer to Tiger? I really want to save these things but don't know exactly how I'd work that.
    4. I have other things, also - pix, documents, AppleWorks documents, MS Word .... would I only have to save those all to a disc and then reinstall on the new computer?
    5. What about saving my many Netscape bookmarks and transferring them to a new 'puter and Tiger? Possible?
-- please help, if you can. I don't want to lose everything I've put on my computer over the last 5 years in a big computer/OS switch-over. If I can't exactly figure this out, I'm going to have to stay 9.2, and I'd rather not, especially since there aren't any good or useful downloads out there anymore for 9.2's. Besides, I can't use a muchly-coveted iPod with 9.2. iPods are calling my name (another reason I don't want to lose my iTunes in a switchover)! Thanks guys!
    iMac - G3   Mac OS 9.2.x

    Welcome to the Discussions, Princess!
Switching from OS 9 to OS X will involve manually moving your files from your old computer via CD-R, external hard drive, or target disk mode. If your iMac G3 cannot burn disks, then the CD-R option is out; if no Firewire port on your iMac G3, then target disk mode is also out. Therefore, your options are external hard drive or network sharing.
Assuming that you are going to get a new Mac with an Intel processor, you need to be aware of various Application types:
OS 9 (Classic): these will not operate on a new Intel Mac
OS X (PowerPC): these will operate, but are not optimized for an Intel Mac
OS X (Universal): these operate, and are optimized, for both Intel and PowerPC
Without knowing exactly which versions of the Applications that you have, it is difficult to guess which category they fall into. The good news is that there are OS X versions of AppleWorks and Photoshop, and obviously iTunes. If you move your iTunes music to your new Mac, then it will probably be recognizable or importable by iTunes. Your email may be more of an issue, but many programs will import old mail including Apple's own Mail program. A new Mac comes with many other programs such as iPhoto, which overlaps some of Photoshop's capabilities. If you know where your bookmark file is, it can be imported into Safari.
Take it slow, and by all means ask more questions as you go.
    Good Luck!

  • ITunes 9.2.1 on Tiger Airplay Issues

Hey, I have an old Intel MacBook running Tiger 10.4.11 ( I know ). The thing is I have it, and it's useful for the purpose it serves.
Previously I've been streaming music from iTunes 9.2.1 to my Apple TV which works perfectly. But I recently bought some AirPlay speakers and it's not working so perfectly.
I can AirPlay audio to the speakers from my iPhone and my newer MacBook Air with no problems. Also, I can AirPlay audio from all my devices to my Apple TV with no problems, including the old MacBook with Tiger and iTunes 9.2.1.
However, I cannot AirPlay from the old MacBook with Tiger and iTunes 9.2.1 to the AirPlay speakers.
I'm almost in awe of the simplicity of an Apple-run living room, please help me push through this last barrier and get there

    Thanks Limnos.
I had read that in other posts during the course of my research.
I guess I was a little more curious and decided to ask here because I can play audio from iTunes 9.2.1 to my Apple TV, I presume using AirPlay. I can also see my AirPlay speakers listed alongside my Apple TV when choosing the output device in iTunes 9.2.1.
So I guess the question I was trying to ask was how come I can play audio from iTunes 9.2.1 to my Apple TV but when I selct my AirPlay speakers it doesn't work? And is there something I can do to use what's there in 9.2.1 for streaming to my Apple TV to stream to my AirPlay speakers?
If it won't work, well it won't work. But if anyone can shed some light on it I'd be glad to hear about it.

  • IMac (Original shipped with Tiger) and Front Row

    Quick question
If i have an iMac, the first one that was shipped with Tiger back in June 2005 and i purchase the Apple Remote, will it be compatible with my computer and will it come with Front Row, or is it exclusively only for iMac's shipping with the Remote and iPods with a Universal Dock?

Is your profile correct? Is there a reason you're still running Mac OS X 10.4.6? I think you'll need to make sure your iLife applications and iTunes are up-to-date as well as Mac OS X for everything to work correctly together. Mac OS X can be updated to 10.4.11, iTunes can be updated to 7.6.1 and QuickTime can be updated to 7.4.5 all for free. Which version of iLife do you have? '06 or '08? You'll need to make sure you have the most recent versions of iPhoto as well...

  • Didn't iPhoto come with Tiger?

Isn't iPhoto part of OS-X Tiger? I could have sworn I had it on my Mac when I installed Tiger. I might have deleted it thinking I would never use it as I have been disappointed by past versions. But the more I read about it, I want to try it again. How can I get it back?

    Hi Brian,
No it does not come with tiger. It probably came installed on your new computer. You will need to either buy the iLife package or try to install it from your computer software CD/DVD. check out the links for a solution that pertains to your situation.

  • IChat not working with Tiger user

I recently received a new Macbook with Leopard already installed on it. I have 2 friends who also own Macbooks, who I iChat with.
One of my friends received her Macbook when Leopard just came out, so she had Tiger on it previously . The other friend has had her Macbook longer, and does not have Leopard, just Tiger.
When attempting to start an iChat with the friend with Tiger, it would not work. The weird thing about it though is that it has worked a few times before, if we kept trying and I found if I restarted my computer.
However, now the friend that previously had Tiger had problems with her Macbook and received a brand new one with Leopard already on it. Now it does not work for her to start an iChat with the Tiger user, although she had no problems with her old computer.
    Sorry it's confusing!
But in conclusion, it seems that iChat is not working between a Leopard and Tiger user. The confusing part is that we have gotten it to work before...so I'm really not sure what the problem is.
What can we try to get this to work all the time, without her having to upgrade to Leopard?
I usually get an error response saying there was no data received for the last 10 seconds, and she gets different things about Bandwidth, and saying she cancelled the invitation when she didn't.
    Thanks

Personally, I think it's Leopard that is at fault here. I had Tiger and my family and I would video iChat all the time. But then we downloaded Leopard. We discovered we could no longer video iChat.
My son used 4 different computers (all Macs of course), trying same network and different networks. What he discovered is that the ONLY way video iChat now works is if computers are on the same network. Well, how absurd, because the idea is to be able to video iChat with anyone, not just family members in the same household on the same network.
Apparently, somewhere, Apple (Leopard) bragged about their new improved iChat video on a network. Well, I think they forgot that not all of us are sitting in an office wanting to spend the time to iChat video with co-workers, but have friends and family in other areas we'd like to video iChat with.
So through a process of elimination, it all led back to Leopard as being the culprit, because Tiger to Tiger worked perfectly, and even Leopard to Tiger works IF you are on the same network.
I really do hope Apple supplies a FIX for this problem. I, for one, am VERY disappointed in the fact that I now have Leopard and can no longer video iChat with friends across the country.

If you have an iPhone or iPad do not update to ISO 7 unless you want an operating system that looks like windows 8. The graphics looks like it was designed by a artistically challenged mongoose and the operating system is not intuitive something apple users expect. Overly complicated ugly and generally change for the sake of apples paranoia since the death of Steve Jobs.

  • How do I use a song in my iTunes library to record with in garage band on my iPhone?

How do I use a song in my iTunes library to record with in garage band on my iPhone? Like music from my library I want to use invGarageBand to record over.

    Short answer:
Click Hide Song(s), it is what you wanted to do...
    Long answer:
iTunes in the Cloud is a feature of your iTunes store account that allows you to redownload or stream your past purchases. When you delete a purchased track that is downloaded to your computer (like the first one shown here) you are asked if you also want to hide the song from iCloud. This would remove it from the computer and also stop it showing up with the iCloud symbol as the other tracks from that album (which are not downloaded) do.
If a track shows with the cloud symbol you can play (stream) it by double-clicking the title, or click the cloud symbol to download a local copy to your library. If you try to delete one of these tracks you get a slightly different message confirming that you want to hide the track. Clicking hide will remove the listing from the library and any other device that shows your past purchases.
Should you want to retrieve any item hidden in this way at a later date use Store > View My Account > iTunes in the Cloud > Hidden Purchases > Manage.
To hide all your previous purchases that are not downloaded to your computer use Edit > Preferences > Store and untick Show iTunes in the Cloud purchases.

  • ITunes sharing among iPhones with different Apple ID's one computer WITHOUT home sharing, shared folder, etc...

I feel like I am losing my mind, here. A few things I want to clear up before you read my question:
No, I am not new to Apple. Yes, I understand that Home Sharing works for any group of devices authrized with my Apple ID. Home Sharing is not my issue.
    1. My wife and I have different iPhones with different Apple IDs.
    2. We only have one computer, on which iTunes is running under my Apple ID.
    3. My iTunes library is far too large to paste into a shared folder. I keep my source folder on a 1TB external hard drive (not enough space on my iMac).
I just want her to be able to plug in and copy music onto her phone from iTunes. Home sharing is great while she's at home on the wifi, but not when she leaves. I created her own user name on my computer, set her iTunes (under her Apple ID) to pull from my library source file, and she can play everything fine, except that she cannot click and drag files onto her phone.
    Any assistance would be appreciated.

iTunes Match is associated with one, and only one, iTunes Store Apple ID and country-specific store. The service cannot be shared between Apple IDs.
    Indy Apple Guy wrote:
If we sign up for iTunes with the one account with the majority of the songs, is Home Sharing no longer available to the other two accounts?
Of course it is. iTunes Match has no affect on Home Sharing.
    Indy Apple Guy wrote:
    A.  What happens to the songs on the other two libraries?  Can we never use them?
It is possible to consolidate the tracks from the other iTunes libraries into one and use that for iTunes Match. Make sure the one computer that hosts the library is authorized to play any protected content.
    Indy Apple Guy wrote:
    C.  If we purchase songs/albums while in iTunes Match, and then decide not to use Match in the future, do we lose all our music?
Of course not. Any purchases go to the purchase history for the Apple ID that bought them and as long as the tracks are downloaded and backedup you'll have them as long as you maintain them. Keep in mind that iTunes Match is a service; you don't do anything "in" iTunes Match. It simply "is" in the background.
    Indy Apple Guy wrote:
    D.  If we associate our child's iTouch, will it still keep the parental controls in place so it won't play certain songs that are not appropriate f
Yes, parental controls should continue to work as they have. Although I do not use them, perhaps someone else with experience will weigh in.

Thanks for visiting Apple Support Communities.
I'm sorry to hear that your laptop was stolen. Changing your password was a good step.
Entering your new password on your iPhone will not affect the laptop, as mentioned in this article:

The next time you use an Apple feature or service that uses Apple ID, you'll be asked to sign in with your new Apple ID password.
