ITunes 9.1 installed - now I can't move music to my iPod

I installed iTunes 9.1 yesterday and now I can't move any music to my ipod. The device appears in the directory listing, but any attempt to move a song, album, or playlist to it fails. The device and all of it's directory highlight in blue and no action is taken to copy.
iTunes functions fine otherwise e.g. can import files & folders, play music, edit song info, etc.

i have a similar problem with the 9.1 itunes drop. my 3gs says "not compatible for charging" when i connect it to my pc but it does have the charge indicator on and did seem to charge. everything sync'd to the phone (3 tv shows and 42 new songs) took 10 times as long as usual; the above took 40 minutes, it usually would have taken about 5. backing up my phone before it started to sync the content took 10 minutes. while device connected, itunes is very unresponsive.

    To get the files into your library, you need to select the "Add to Library" command from the menus, then select the iTunes Music folder from the dialog box. iTunes will then go through the entire folder and add all the songs to it's index.
    I don't have iTunes on this computer, so the command names may be slightly different.

    If your music collection was purchased from iTunes, you are in a good shape since that music is forever yours under your iTunes account.     I have read through lots of suggestions for moving my music from my iPod to my new computer...but can not seem to overcome a very difficult hurdle:
    When I connect my very old iPod to my computer and click on the icon to open it, only 3 folders come up:  Calendars, Contacts and Notes.  I cannot "backup" anything useful here!
    When I open iTunes, the program can see my iPod, and lists the complete library...but I cannot KEEP it in my computer!  WHY?!?
    When I go to iTunes > File > Library, I do not get a "backup" option to use to backup my iPod music, either.
    HELP, please.  I have spent hours fiddling around trying to figure out how to do this, and am getting crankier and crankier.

    So here's the deal, I have been using my parents apple ID ever since I bought my first apple product. I have a TON of music stored up on their apple ID (Both cd's and iTunes music). I just got my own apple ID and have successfully transferred my music to my iPod touch. How can I move that music to my new macbook? The macbook is authorized for my parents apple ID and I can download the music that I bought from the iTunes store, but the problem is that I can't move the stuff originally from CD's. Most of the CD's are already trashed, lost, forgotten, and the only copy I have left is on my parents iTunes.

    iTunes itself won't help you, other than for purchases, but if everything is properly tagged and you're not bothered about playlists you can recover most things with Windows Explorer, then get iTunes to reorganize what has been recovered. Otherwise there are free tools as well as premium ones.

    Try the following steps:
    1. Go to Microsoft website to fix install and Unistall problems. Click "Run now" from Fix it to remove all iTunes & related installer files:

    Be aware that Windows Installer CleanUp Utility will not remove the actual program from your computer. However, it will remove the installation files so that you can start the installation, upgrade, or uninstall over.

    Some of us have our enture itunes library backed up on CD/DVD - what a waste of time and effort as now presumably you can't use these discs to restore itunes on a new computer! WHY NOT APPLE?
    Very unimpressed with itunes 10.5/ios5 - wifi tracking apps have been removed from the store (and won't function in ios5), it's impossible to sync photos (I have spent a whole day trying to sync my iphone 3GS with itines 10.5) to no avail and now, no CD backup facility.
    I have never had problems with apple before - I was thinking of upgrading my whole system from PC to Mac but now I am doubtful - if this is typical of apple software, I will stay with windows!

    I have a Mac Book Pro with OS X 10.6.8

    If your profile is correct you are using 10.6.8 Snow Leopard.   The latest iTunes version for that OS is 11.3.1    If your profile is wrong and you have 10.9.5 Mavericks, then the iTunes version is 11.4.    You cannot use Mavericks versions on Snow Leopard.
