Itunes 9.1 won't open after 3/30/10 update
I let the software update prompt me to install the new version. It wouldn't open afterwards. I've gone through all of the troubleshooting articles and tips that I could execute and still none of them work. I've completely uninstalled all itunes, quicktime, and related components and then reinstalled. It still doesn't open. I'm a relatively happy (until now) itunes user, but I'm getting very frustrated and making contingency plans to recover my library and get it off of this laptop. Can anyone help me? Apple are you doing anything about this?
Hi People, thanks for your help. I had the same problem. After being prompted to update to iTunes Ver. 9.1 I went ahead and let it automatically update and install iTunes and Quicktime. After updating to Ver. 9.1, iTunes would not open or run on my Windows XP system. It would show up in "processes" as a running program but would not show up on my screen.
After reading your discussion about how Bonjour would interfere, I tried to uninstall it. It wouldn't uninstall because it is using one of the processes. I tried quite a few things including completely uninstalling all Apple programs and reinstalling iTunes. I manually uninstalled Bonjour. No luck!
Here's what you need to do. After reinstalling iTunes, Navigate to the Program Files\ Bonjour folder and rename this folder Bounjour.Old. Restart the computer. Bounjour service should not now show up as a service in Administrative Tools\Services. DELETE the Bonjour.old folder. THEN go to Control Panel - Remove Programs and REMOVE Bounjour. It will now uninstall sucessfully.
After doing this iTunes started right up, loaded all my old settings, and recognized my iPod just like normal. Hooray and good luck.

ITunes 10.5 won't open after upgrade NO ERROR MSG
I upgraded to iTunes 10.5 yesterday on my laptop running Windows XP 32bit.
Download and install went ok, but when I try to open iTunes it just won't load.
There is no error message or pop-up - the hourglass icon appears briefly, and iTunes.exe comes up in the Windows Task Manager for about three seconds and then disappears.
Tried uninstalling and reinstalling, as well as repairing in Control Panel>Add or remove Programs, but still have the same issue.
I should mention that Quicktime opens just fine.
Please help and thanks so very much in advance!iFOUND the Solution!!!
Go to Add/Remove Programs under Control Panel and for every program that is Apple - iTunes - Quicktime related RIGHT click on it and choose "Repair" and repair it. May take some time for each program.
Then, I got an error message saying:
"the file "itunes library.itl" cannot be read because it was created by a newer version of itunes."
Here, from the Start Menu, search "Apple Software Update" and update every program it says needs updating. I recently this week updated Quicktime to its latest version, but did so anyway. So I updated Quicktime and iTunes...restarted computer...and it worked.
That's how you do it. iTunes 10.5 works fine now. Hope it does equally well for you. -
ITunes 10.5 won't open after update and System Restore
I upgraded to iTunes 10.5 days ago on my laptop running Windows Vista 32bit.
Download and install went ok. Tried to open iTunes it just won't load.
I click on the iTunes icon from the start menu or the desktop and only the "circle" signifying "wait" pops up for a few seconds then it goes away.
iTunes.exe shows up in Windows Task Manager for a few seconds, then disappears.
There is no error message or pop-up during any of this.
Quciktime Player and Quicktime both work though.
I had to do a System Restore for my laptop recently because it would not boot up correctly. It kept saying "loading" but never actually load, so I took out the battery and had to system restore it.
Please help and thanks so very much in advance!iFOUND the Solution!!!

ITunes on Mac won't open after update to 10.6.
I update to iTunes 10.6 on Mac with 10.7.3. Now iTunes won't open, it appears for a split second and then an error message saying iTunes has unexpectedly quit Don't Restore Windows or Restore Windows. But you can't get either error prompt to respond. Any help would be greatly apreciated.
Bengiewhat if the disk image is on an attached FireWire Drive?
there is no OS on that drive, so I can't repair permissions.
I have two disk images on it: one opens fine, the other I get "no mountable file systems"
It opened just fine a few weeks ago

Aperture 3.1 won't open after 10.6.8 update
I've been working with Aperture 3.1 for awhile and recently updated to Snow Leopard 10.6.8. Aperture will not open after the update. I receive an error message that says I need to update Aperture, that it may not be compatible with my current version of Mac OSX. I tried downloading and installing the Aperture 3.1.1 update but the install package won't run displaying a message that I need Aperture 3 or later. Pretty sure I have Aperture 3 because I'm watching the application icon bounce in my dock with no response.
Any suggestions? Please don't suggest updating my OSX to Lion or later because 10.6.8 is as recent an operating system as my model can allow apparently. I can't find the Aperture disc to reinstall either....so hoping the responses aren't all just "you're screwed!".I installed snow leopard with the disc purchased from Apple. I will try downloading the 3.2.4 update. Thanks for the link. Here's a screenshot of the error message.

Some apps won't open after OS X Mavericks update
After the update to OS X Mavericks, some apps won't open on my macbook pro. That include things like preview, boot camp assistant, from what I've tried so far. When I click on those from applications menu or from the spotlight search, the icon appear on the dock very briefly(like 1 sec) and nothing happened after that. Based on the internet search, I tried the Disk permissions repair and didn't work. Any suggestions? Thanks
Hi aung.24,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities. I would recommend trying the troubleshooting for "If the issue occurs in various applications, or in Mac OS X" from this article:

Applications won't open after error in a update using a Apple G4
Apple G4 wont open applications, it says application switcher error or error type 3, everthing used to work until when updating the mac a error accured it restarted, now it won't open an application without saying error type 3, or when it boots a bomb sign with the following message saying application switcher error please restart. does anyone know what i can do or whats happened? i have a boot disk which isn't the offical apple cd as i cannot find it or find a place where i could get one from if anyone knows where i could get one from that would be most helpful!!
Thanks.haydn,
It sounds like you are talking about Application Switcher from system 6, twenty five years ago. If you are using system 9 and you happened to have other systems on your hard drive, the computer could get confused with what to do becausse it sees older software that the processor can not handle.
I looked at a map of England and did not recognize any cities that would have a Mac user group. If you google and find a user group near you, the best thing to do would be to find a Boot CD, put it in, restart while holding down the C key and see if you can clean up your drive.
Otherwise, ebay has boot CDs listed from time to time. This may look tempting:
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/iBook-G3-Install-cds-x7-10-2-Jaguar-OS-9-2-2-OS-8-/2207859 53727?pt=UK_Computing_Apple_Mac_Accessories&hash=item3367de4bbf
But, here is the catch. The disks look like they are grey and not the universal install CDs. If one of the CDs is not for your exact model of computer, be sure and look for a CD that is white with an orange 9 on it.

Itunes for mac won't open after upgrade. Keeps jumping
I have My macbook 10.x and i bought the new iPhone 5 and so i connect to my mac to sync music but it says the iTunes software is outdated i should upgrade to sync. I upgrade it goes pretty well with no interruptions but then after it is done i go to open iTunes and it jumps for a while and finally does not open. For weeks now i have been toiling the internet looking for a solution but to no avail. I tried to see if there was another upgrade i could do but there was none so i am really frustrated if you can imagine.
Please help me iPhone is boring without music and interneti had a problem similar to yours and better yet, i have the fix for it. i downloaded maverick 4 months ago and was without itunes ever since. all itunes icon did was bounce. itunes would never open and whats more, is when i would try to update it, i would get a "thank you for downloading itunes!" page , but the download would never work. so i scoured the net for solves. nothing that worked. <4 months later> then last night i took a new approach. i decided even though maverick would not allow me to uninstall itunes, i would find a way to uninstall itunes. then i would reinstall back to 11.1.5 i was successful and heres what i did.
step one-
Back up your iTunes Library.itl file, found under ~/Music/iTunes
(even tho i didnt, i only had 3 artists in there at the time. and they didnt get erased but i advise you back up just in case.)
step two-
download itunes 10.7 from apple. i used this link Download it from Apple here
(i pulled the link from Aarons website (awesometast.com). you download 10.7 however you want but i used the link above and have had no issues).
although im not sure you need to do this step ( you may be able to download 11.1.5 itunes without 10.7, i did because i was following intructions fromhttp://awesometoast.com/downgrading-to-itunes-10-7-from-itunes-11-on-osx/
step 3-
open Terminal
step 4-
enter in these 3 commands hitting return after each line. 1st line nothing seems to happen, 2nd line nothing seems to happen and 3rd line gives you a warning and requires password to continue. when i did it, my password didnt appear as i entered it and i hit return without looking, so i entered it in again, although im not sure i had to the 2nd time.
killall iTunes
killall "iTunes Helper"
sudo rm -rf /Applications/iTunes.app/
step 5-
drag off and dump the itunes icon (which now has the ? shadow in it) off your dock.
step 6-
install 10.7 itunes you downloaded earlier. (not sure if this part is neccesary. you may be able to just download 11.1.5 but i downloaded 10.7 because i was following Aarons steps.) itunes now works.
step 7-
go to apple and update to 11.1.5 itunes. install it. open it and you have itunes 11.1.5 in perfect working order. assuming you have a decent internet speed for the downloads, the whole process takes very little time.
with those steps above, you can solve itunes just bouncing and not launching issues and also the "thank you for downloading" and nothing downloads issue. enjoy. also i would like to give a shout out to http://awesometoast.com and thank Aaron for the knowledge that enabled me to get itunes back into my life -
Several apps won't open after 10.9.5 update
I have an 2011 Mac with 3.06 GHz Intel Core i3, with 4GB 1333 HZ DDR3. After the iOS 10.9.5 update, the following apps will not open: Finder, Mail, Photo Booth, iPhoto, and Calendar (the mouse also seems to lose connection often). I CAN get a second window of Finder to open and the system seems to think the apps are open. I've restarted the Mac several times with the same result. This is the second time I've done the upgrade to 10.9.5 - the first time I couldn't get a different group of Apps to open (including the App Store, System Preferences and that time the trackpad continually lost connection). I've looked through the discussion boards and can't find anyone else with this problem.
Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, or by corruption of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. Note: If FileVault is enabled on some models, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin. Test while in safe mode. Same problem? After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test. -
Mail won't open after 10.5.4 update
Hi can anyone help me please.
I updated to OS 10.5.4 this morning and immediately after restarting I tried to open my mail app. and I keep getting the message "The application Mail quit unexpectedly".
Has anyone else had this problem and does anyone know how to fix it please.
Thanks in advance for any help
JenI always make a back up of my apple mail folder and save the copy in my documents or user folder.
Go into Library file, in your user folder, find the file in your preferences folder
com.apple.mail.plist (delete this file.)
Then open your apple mail. You will need to re enter user info, click OK
Try it, see if mail still quits.
If that doesn't work
Find the mail folder in your user Library folder, make sure you have a back up of your emails.
Delete this folder. You will need to enter some of the settings again.
Open mail and see if it quits. If it doesn't quit the you can import your mail back into the new mail folder that was generated when you entered your settings.
If all else fails take the computer to your Apple Service Provider -

Quickbooks Pro 2006 won't open after 10.4.9 update
One of my clients has been using Quickbooks Pro 2006 for over a year with no problems. Immediately after installing the PowerPC 10.4.9 update on March 25, Quickbooks refused to open. Icon bounces in the dock a few times, then stops. Nothing opens. No other apps have been affected (as far as I know). Tried "reinstalling" Quickbooks - since it's just a matter of dragging the app to the hard drive, I removed the Application Support files and the preferences (plist) files, then removing the app and dragging a new copy from the CD. No go. (I then replaced the aforementioned files, since I don't know what effect their removal would have once I get the program running again.)
Anyone else had a similar problem? Any suggestions? My client is getting desperate, since he can't create any invoices without this software.
Thanks for any help or suggestions.

ISync won't open after 10.4.7 update
As per the subject line, after installing the latest 10.4.7 update via the Software Update application, my iSync has stopped working.
If I click on it it just bounces away in the dock but never actually opens. I tried downloading the Inetl Combo update from Apple and running that in the hope of fixing the issue but it didn't help.
Can anyone help?Guys, I've got it working again.
1) Use AppZapper to uninstall iSync.
2) Manually remove all references to iSync in the Library & System folders.
3) Reboot
4) Use Pacifist to extract iSync.app from your recovery DVD to the desktop (do not click "install")
5) Drag isync.app to my Applications folder.
This gave me a working copy of v2.1
6) Apply the combo update to 10.4.7 from this website.
7) Reboot.
You should have a fully working iSync v2.3
Please report back on whether this works for you.

IPhoto won't open after most recent automatic update
Hello,
After my most recent software update, iPhoto will not open. I click on the icon on the desktop (Macbook Pro) and nothing happens. Mac OS X (10.6.8) is my operating system.
Any help will be appreciated. I am worried I have lost all of my photos.
Sincerely,
Megan. If you control-click on your iPhoto Library and select "Show Package Contents" there should be a folder in there named "Masters" - it should have all of your his-res photos in it.
Not certain why you're having problems just opening iPhoto - you may want to take your question to the iPhoto forum - where all of the iPhoto experts hang out.
