ITunes 9.2 and PDFs

One of the main things I am excited about the 9.2 update is the fact that I can sync PDFs with my iPad and (future) iPhone 4.
I already purchased multiple books through the iBookstore, but have quite a few PDFs that I already added to my iTunes library.
Changing metadata such as author, genre, year, etc... are easy.
But I am not able to add the my custom Artwork for each PDF.
When I go to the PDF's Info in iTunes the 'Artwork' tab is selectable and when I select it and paste the appropriate artwork in it, I then click OK on the Info window to confirm. But the artwork is not updated for the PDF in iTunes. So when I 'Get Info' of the PDF again, it shows nothing in the artwork section.
Does anyone have any information about this?

As I'm sure you know PDFs don't carry a tag and while iTunes will let you edit most of the availible text fields for most files, even when not really relevant, what you can't seem to do is add artwork that can't be embedded in the tag. The text data just gets stored in the library and is lost if you remove & reimport the file. However, if you have a tagless .wav file that iTunes recognises in the store then it might be able to download store artwork for it, but you won't be able to paste the art in directly. So iTunes can sometimes associate art with tagless files, but only when it's in charge. I don't think it can be done via script, but I'll have a look.

ITunes U, iPad, and PDFs

Is any one viewing content from their iTunes U private site on the iPad? Videos work properly but PDFs get an error and won't download (iPad 2).

When the PDFs are added to the iTunes U private site using an RSS feed this problem exists. If the PDFs are added directly to iTunes U (stored on iTunes U) the PDFs download on the iPad without issue and are viewable in the iBooks app. There are no issues at all when accessing the content from iTunes U on the Mac or Windows.

How do I do this in the future so this doesnt happen? Its a lot of work to now manually erase them from each device and it sent my phone over capacity.

I dont see the difference in the posts. I dont think theres anything inaccurate or misleading about what I wrote. The items were immediately added to my ipad and my iphone, even though I have them both set to sync only select items. As soon as I added new titles to my itunes library, they were immediately added to the devices. Not on the next sync. Immediately. Both devices were plugged into the computer at the time. Sorry if I failed to mention they were plugged in but I dont see the signifigance youre making out of it. The problem persists anyway.
Now that I did a test without the devices plugged in, the new items were still added as soon as I plugged my devices into the computer ( I do not have them set to sync over wifi).
Since I have both devices set to manually select items to sync, of course I want to manually select new items to sync. For instance, I am not going to read any of these magazines or books on my phone, ever, and I dont want to waste valuable space with them.
So I'm trying your advice:
I just tried deselecting sync books. It erased all content from ibooks on my device. I then dragged
one title onto the device, and it just goes back to syncing select books, with the one title selected.
It appears that wont work to solve my issue. The next time I add something to itunes it will be put on my phone. Is this really something most people want? To select to manualy control what content is synced, but then have things automatically added. It seems inconsistent to me.

King_Penguin - Thanks it worked perfectly. I had my pdf files copied into ITunes on my PC but when I clicked on a pdf file to copy it I thought the sidebar would appear with my IPAD name and then I would drag it over. I didn't realize that I needed to click-and start dragging it towards the left-hand side for the sidebar to appear. It worked like a charm - THANKYOU!!!

Are all books and PDF files available in the iBooks app on your iPhone available in your iTunes library on your computer?

Sync selected books and pdfs iTunes desktop

Hi all,
I have been trying to archive my pdfs and ePubs to my computer via iTunes. It used to be I could back everything up to my iTunes library on my desktop and then I could select which songs to sync on my iPad, but the option to select sync is greyed out. I am planning on deleting all unnecessary pdfs and books off of my iPad as they are taking up a lot of space. I can't update to iOS 7 as the books and pdfs are taking up a lot of space. Most of my books were made by my school, so I can't redownload things as purchases.

ITunes U and PDFs synchronization with iPod

I have in iTunes U same Collection of Audiofiles and PDF-Files. The Audio-Files will synchronized with my iPod and will be visible in the synchronization of my iPod as collection, but the PDF-Collection will not be synchronized with the ipod and are not visible in the synchronization-configuration. How can I synchronize the PDF-collection in iTunes U with my ipod.

Unfortunately, iPods and iPhones don't currently support syncing PDFs from iTunes U.
However, one possible solution could be to install one of the various iPod touch apps that can sync files to the iPod. You could then manually copy the PDFs from the iTunes Media folder into that app, which should allow you to read them on the iPod.

Loading Apps and PDFs to multiple iPads with different Apple IDs

Hello,
We are deploying 200+ iPads to our business and we are configuring each of the devices individually on-sight. We have received each employee's Apple ID and password for these corporate devices.
We want to load 7 free apps to each iPad and a variety of PDFs to iBooks before we deploy the devices. We have experimented with Apple Configurator for the Apps and iTunes for the PDFs and run into a few problems.
Apps:
When we loaded these 7 free apps using Apple Configurator from a Macbook Pro to an iPad with a different Apple ID, we had no problem. The iPad user was able to download other apps using their own Apple ID without any issues. The problem came when we tried to update these originally loaded apps. When the user is prompted to update, the Macbook Pro user's Apple ID showed up with the update and there was no way to get around that even though the device was logged into the iPad owner's Apple ID in the settings.
Is there a way to push multiple apps from one device to another without have two different Apple IDs sitting on the one device?
PDFs:
A similar problem happened with iTunes and iBooks. When we pushed PDFs from the Macbook owner's iTunes to the iPad, there was no problem. When the iPad user tried to upload some of her own PDFs from her Apple ID in iTunes, the originally loaded PDFs were wiped.
Is there a way for both sets of PDFs to stay on the device in iBooks without either getting wiped?

I don't really have any solutions other than uploading the files to cloud storage such as drop box, google, or skydrive and then sharing them to all the users.

Are the PDFs and ibooks on your computer's iTunes ? If so then you should be able to re-sync them, if not then you can re-download ibooks for free as long as they are still available in the store and you use the same iTunes account as you originally used to buy them : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2519 . The backup doesn't contain the contents of the ibooks app, so for them to be restored to the device they needed to be in your iTunes library.

I'm going on a trip and want to store lots of info in .docx and .pdf on an ipad2.
1. Can I view Word docx and .pdf files on the ipad 2 without buying apps?
2. If so, how do I transfer them, and where can I find them on it after they are transferred?

Do you have ibooks downloaded? I often use ibooks to save my documents and store them with the help of itunes. Later on, they may be useful. "ibooks" is free of cost.

Differences between PDF (Interactive) and PDF (Print)

What are the main differences between PDF (Interactive) and PDF (Print)?
Now it seems to me that PDF (Interactive) is limited version of PDF (Print).

Here is some info for you regarding what choices are being made under the hood when you choose File > Export > Adobe PDF (Interactive).
Things that just happen or are included, with no choice in the dialog box:
Hyperlinks, Bookmarks, Fast Web view, Compress Text and Line Art, Crop Image Data to Frames.
Things that are not included, with no choice in the dialog box:
Visible Guides/Grids, Hidden and Non-Printing Layers, Hidden and Non-Printing Objects, Marks & Bleeds, No Ink Manager or Simulate Overprint options.
Things that you can choose:
Security Settings, Embed Page Thumbnails, Create Tagged PDF, Create Acrobat Layers, Initial View, Initial Layout, Open in Full Screen Mode, Page Transitions, Image compression and resolution.
Other:
Fonts: Subset 100%
Color Conversion: Destination
Destination: sRGB
Profile Inclusion Policy: Include Destination Profile
Transparency Flattener: No Flattening
And lastly, Compatibility is set to Acrobat 9 (PDF 1.7). This last point is important, and largely explains the main reason we split Interactive PDF out as a separate export choice from Print PDF. When you export an interactive PDF from CS5, included media is now written out to the Rich Media Annotation Layer, which means this content is played back via the embedded Flash Player within Acrobat Pro 9 or Adobe Reader 9 or higher. In previous versions, this content was written out to the Screen Annotation Layer, which meant this content was played back via QuickTime. This has been a long-standing headache for end users as playback across platforms was often inconsistent, would frequently break when Apple updated QuickTime, etc.
Lastly, if you want to include rich media in your interactive PDFs (SWFs, audio and video), the only formats supported if you want to target Adobe PDF (Interactive) are MP3 for audio and FLV for video. Other file formats will need to be converted to these formats before you export to Interactive PDF. For video files, you’ll be able to convert to FLV with Adobe Media Encoder. For audio files, you can use any number for free audio conversion tools, including iTunes.

Hyperlinks die between Word and Pdf

I have Word 2011 and hyperlinks die when saved to pdf; how can I fix this? I have tried Pages, I have tried print to pdf, and saving as a doc then converting all without success.
Thoughts? Advice? I did this for many years with my PC but now love my MAC but cannt do what I need to do. Hopefully I can get this fixed.

you can re-download all purchases from the iBooks store at any time. PDF's you will need to have kept the PDF on your hard drive or on a service such as Dropbox, then you can re-import them into iTunes.
