ITunes 9.2 - Artwork Bugs

Hello,
So in addition to the lost artwork that seems to occur with each iTunes update, there is now another bug.
When viewing my library in list, grid, or cover flow many albums will only have the grey music note box, however if I click on the box the artwork will show up in the bottom left artwork viewer. Some of them will populate if I right click and choose 'Get Album Artwork' but with others that is to no avail.
It would be great if Apple could fix this as well as just fixing the general handling of artwork.

Has anyone found a fix for this? It is persistent.

  • ITunes 7.3 artwork bug

Just upgraded iTunes to 7.3 and have a problem with new albums i add -- in coverflow it seems to randomly list some new albums multiple times (with multiple covers next to each other). i have checked to make sure all the tabs under 'info' are identical .. it's not as though one has 'album artist' listed and one does not.
anyone else having this problem? this has happened now to about 3 of the 6 albums i've added since upgrading.

When I installed iTunes 7.3 I noticed some artwork
was gone. I compared the actual file sizes to the
backup and there was no change at all. I was able to
get the covers again from the iTS, but as I really
want to have the artwork inside the files, I tried to
paste it into the tags (like I used to do since 7.0).
That doesn't work, after pasting it, the artwork is
gone again completely, but the files are now 4mb
bigger. The artwork of these files (about 300 in
total, and I cant figure out why some and some not)
can not be browsed, but the rest of the tags is fine
and the songs play just normal.
I trashed one of the affected albums and re-added it
from the backup. Now the tags in iTunes were gone
completely! I re-entered the correct tags and let
iTunes get the artwork from the iTS. The artwork
shows, but not for all files of the album. So again I
tried to paste it into the tags of all songs, and
voila: all artwork of this album is gone again and
    the files are 4mb bigger.
    Same behaviour in iTunes 7.3.1.
I'm happy I have a good backup of my music, and I
think the artwork is still inside the files, but
iTunes 7.3 and 7.3.1 mess it up. From what I see only
non-iTS files are affected, but only iTS artwork is
    lost. NOT nice.
Any ideas? I'm no really a friend of downgrading...
After some more time consuming tinkering I still have no luck in giving certain files their artwork back. I better go back to 7.2 tomorrow... Apple keep that lousy 7.3.1 BS yourself

  • Apple TV Artwork bug?

Hi Folks, hope you all keeping well. Looking at some general discussion on the web is there or is anyone else experiencing an artwork "bug" with their Apple TV?  I have iTunes Match etc enabled and all the artists, albums etc all show up and will stream ok. However very little or no of the artwork is showing up, either matched or uploaded? Getting the standard music cleft symbol beside most artists and tracks. From what I can gather others experiencing similar problems and sine putting it down to a problem that needs to be fixed with software upgrade? Appreciate any feedback folks. N.b, Turing off match and re-enabling again on Apple TV dies not resolve. Bit of a pain more than anything else since we all live getting our artwork in place :-). Thanks folks

Sadly I just discovered this same issue with individual tv show artwork no longer displaying on my Apple TV2 after updating to 4.4.3 just a day and a half ago. I was so happy when (around 4.x) they finally had gotten Apple TV2 to display individual artwork for each of the tv shows I had applied it to... now its no longer working again. Sigh. And optical audio still keeps cutting out / dropping completely with both version 4.4.2 and 4.4.3. Hopefully BOTH of these issues can be fixed quickly with a new software update release.

  • Is it true iTunes deletes existing artwork if it does not find it itself?

    20" iMac Intel   Mac OS X (10.4.8)
I have noticed several albums’ artwork missing when I knew I had put something there. Besides a random deletion bug in the software, I could only think that if iTunes searches for artwork, does it write something in every file, either a picture or a blank? I called Apple Technical Support and they confirmed that it is true. Needless to say, I am VERY upset about (1) the number of hours it took me to search and import the artwork and (2) how dare Apple knowingly write their program to basically delete anything that it does not have!
Hopefully there is more to this then I am aware of at the present. Surely, someone from Apple can officially advise?

AAR's are independent distributors, very rarely have a inventory and have to order everything from Apple on a per need basis.
You would likely get faster response waiting on hold with Apple for three hours and having the new magsafe overnight shipped, or going to a Apple Store and exchanging the Magsafe/buy a new one while waiting for the old one to be replaced.
It's the sad fate of things unfortunately, but likely this has to do with AAR's only making a tiny profit on new hardware sales, them giving you a new Magsafe doesn't make any profit for them, likely Apple doesn't have a reinbursment or takes forever to determine your Magsafe is defective and authorize a replacement cost reinbursement to the AAR.
Think about it, if you were a AAR would you exchange a Magsafe knowing Apple could later determine  the defective Magsafe was caused by customer misuse (thus voiding the warrantly/AppleCare) not send you a dime?

  • IPod to iTunes copy with Artwork

I've been reading other discussions on how to copy a music library from an iPod to iTunes. Can anybody recommend a program to use to this that will also copy the artwork as well? Thanks.

hello am not sure about artwok on the coverflow itunes
I have transfered my libray to and from my ipod using a package called touchcopy only once due to technical hitches in synch since fixed apple can only provide transfer to purchased tracks but not anthing added on cd which is a shame but can see why and how this could infringe copyright
think this package took every file on ipod in minutes then tranferred them to computer then easily impored manually by folder or direct into itunes but the artwork issue can be random some times it comes up sometimes it doesnt, like the other post said it seems to be embedded within the track when saved from net image source like I have did as when trying get artwork doesnt always work or brings down a random image that will not shift at all which is annoying

  • Updating Album Art, when iTunes says "Album Artwork Not Modifiable"

How can I go about updating or adding album art when the Artwork area at the lower left corner of iTunes says, "Album Artwork Not Modifiable"? Every effort to add the artwork from iTunes has failed. When I paste the album photo from another site, it doesn't save.

I figured this out. I found that the folder and files only had "read" privileges and not "read & write" privileges. I did the following:
    1. In finder I right clicked the parent folder for iTunes and selected "Get Info".
    2. Selected my user and changed the rights to "read & write".
    3. This step is the most important. With my user still selected in blue, you click on the options "cog wheel" below the users, at the bottom. Select, "Apply to the enclosed items". It may ask you again if you are sure, say "yes". By doing this you will apply your users "read & write" privileges to all folders and files underneath your iTunes folder.
This worked for me and I wish you the best!

  • ITunes U courses artwork not being downloaded

    Hi;
I watch lots of iTunes U courses; artworks for courses I download are usually not included. Is there anyway of getting their artwork?
    Thank you.

Thank you for your answer. But you know what; I think that the artwork is embeded with every iTunes collection, otherwise it wouldn't be shown at the iTunes store.
I think the problem is with how iTunes handles downloaded collections. Apple has to do some work on iTunes, now that they are promoting iTunes U.

  • Why won't iTunes sync album artwork to my iPhone?

Today, I plugged my iPhone 3GS into my Windows 7 (32) computer. iTunes pops up and tells me that another computer is handling my library. Long story short- My phone loses everything. I decide to take this as a oppurtunity to fine tune my phone's library and I start dragging music to my phone. All of my music appears on the phone but none of the albums include any artwork. When I select an album from the iTunes library the artwork is present. When I take that album and drag it to my phone, the artwork doesn't come with it. Why? Is there some way to get the album artwork to show up on my phone without manually adding the 204 album covers one by one?

Similar problem with the new iPad.  Could not sync H.264 1080p video.
Tried to move as both video and photo but received error message both times.  Confirmed CODEC was H.264.  The same video rendered as H.264 720p would sync.  Also, if the same video was rendered as as a MOV file (much bigger file), the file would sync.
Purchased iMovie and iPhot for iPad but they were no help.  Furthermore, in iTunes, adding 1080p video for transfer to iPad using both apps seemed to work (iPad memory decreased and files appeared in iTune transfer area) but could not find the files on the iPad using any app.
Apple tech support was courteous but could not help.  Bottom line: If iTunes would get out of the way, the iPad would be useable.

  • Is there a way to stop ITUNES from adding artwork?

Is there a way to stop ITUNES from adding artwork?

    iTunes prefs > Sotere.
    Uncheck Automatically download album artwork.

  • I am updating my 3GS and after 3 hours my itunes says "syncing artwork (Step 5 of 4)"  It has been on that for 2 hours now.  No that is not a typo.  it really says step 5 of 4.  what do I do?

If the update gets interrupted, it will resume where it stopped.  Shouldn't take near that long.

  • ITunes Embedded Album Artwork Management

I have purchased an iPod Touch 4th generation (iOS updated to 5.1.1) and I have a few questions regarding the process iTunes uses to embed album artwork into mp3 files via the "get info" dialog.
    1. Does iTunes first resize** the chosen image file prior to embedding and then perform the embedding operation or is the image embedded without any prior modification?
**By resize, I mean two possible operations that currently come to my mind:
    - Reshape the image so that it has a 1:1 width to height ratio
    - Compress the image so that for example, a 1000x1000 px image gets converted to a 600x600 px one.
So does any such procedure take place in the <embedding> phase?
    2. Are there any repercussions to embedding artwork not having a 1:1 width to height ratio? For instance if I use a rectangular artwork instead of a square one, does it get displayed correctly on the iPod Touch?   on the iTunes? I am asking this because I remember reading somewhere that a 1:1 ratio was the recommendation for album artworks.
    (Found the link: http://www.ehow.com/info_12174326_wont-itunes-apply-album-artwork-movies.html)
    3. My final question is on how the artwork data is transferred to iPod during sync. Does iPod...
    a. read directly the metadata from the mp3 file's id3 tag itself to display the artwork on the screen, or
    b. read the cached image that is sent to it through iTunes. As far as I've been able to read through (and if I've understood correctly), when dealing with mp3's with embedded artwork iTunes first creates (from the embedded image) a cache of artworks in the user's Music folder for its own internal use.
So does iTunes pass a copy of this cached image over to the iPod during sync, or does iPod directly access the image information in the mp3 file's tag, without having to depend on iTunes for providing it with the artwork seperately from the mp3 file?
If the answer is b., a variant of the 1st question is called for:
Does iTunes apply any kind of modification - resizing**, etc. during this cache generation phase?
    Thanks!

    Hi Xi,
    1. Does iTunes first resize** the chosen image file prior to embedding and then perform the embedding operation or is the image embedded without any prior modification?
    1. No.  No operation is made by iTunes, the image will be added as is.
    2. Are there any repercussions to embedding artwork not having a 1:1 width to height ratio? For instance if I use a rectangular artwork instead of a square one, does it get displayed correctly on the iPod Touch?   on the iTunes? (Found the link: http://www.ehow.com/info_12174326_wont-itunes-apply-album-artwork-movies.html)
    2.  Yep, the picutre will correctly be displays wathever your ratio is.
    3. My final question is on how the artwork data is transferred to iPod during sync. Does iPod...
    3. Artwork is embedded in the media file, therefore it is transfered as the media file (audio or video).

  • HT1473 Has anyone found a way around the artwork bug for iTunes 11 in Windows?

This thing has been ******* me off for 2 years and I can't contact Apple directly to rage at them.  Hopefully someone there sees this.  Has anyone found a way around the bug?

I assume you are using transitions. This is not a bug - it is how iMovie handles transitions.
There are two settings for transition overlap - full and half. If you are using photos only, you may get the results you want by setting transition overlap to half.
For full details, see iMovie Help here on Transition Overlap.

  • Has anyone got a workaround for the iTunes 12 sorting movies bug?

I have movies in various playlists in my iTunes 12.0.1 library with various metadata and nice artwork added.
When selecting sort by 'Genre', 'Sort Albums by Title' or sort by 'Albums' then 'Sort by Title' (both of these sorting options to enable browsing using the artwork) the movies are not sorted by title.
They are sorted by 'director' metadata, which is not my intended outcome. It looks like iTunes is treating movies like music and sorting by artist/director.
Even adding 'sort name' doesn't fix this. Does anyone know a workaround to this?
I have submitted a bug report to Apple.

  • Questions regarding itunes/ipod + found potential bug (itunes 7 + 5G ipod)

I'd love to be proven wrong here.. but...
Okay I've got an iPod 60GB video model (5G) and using itunes 7.0.2 on the imac and powerbook...
now... my main storage point for music is the imac (so I automatically sync the ipod to itunes on the imac) and I like to take the ipod and powerbook with me to friend's places or what not.
I found it stupid to have two identical libraries on two of my computers, so I got rid of my music collection on the powerbook (as all of it is on the imac). Now.. the dillema here, or dillemas I should add...
    a) before I used to use automatic sync, I ticked "manual manage music and videos" and thought life was peachy.. until I was at a friend's place, with my laptop, and wanted him to have a listen to a couple of tracks from the ipod, so I plugged it in, fired up itunes and it worked... however!
(BUG RANT) The view mode settings keep reverting back to it's default when ever I plug the ipod back in again! as in "Show Browse" or cmd-B, which I want kept there when I listen to music, having to press cmd-B every time I want to scroll through my list is very f**ng annoying.
Also having to change it to manual management of music every time. ***? (END BUG RANT)
    b) So I decided to try the automatic synchronising method, but when it is in automatically sync, I can't browse my music on my powerbook's itunes, and it keeps asking me to synchronise with the itunes library on the powerbook, which is blank!
Can't there either be a 3rd party app which is like itunes in the sense you can browse/listen to the music on the ipod, or a simple method of management/maintenance when plugging in ipods to other computers without it synchronising with their libraries (for listening purposes only of course)
So.. folks... Apple tech support gurus... WHAT ARE MY OPTIONS!??!?!?!?? :\

You are on the right track!
+--the entire iTunes folder found in My Music+
This contains the itunes library database files (iTunes Library.itl which has metadata on ratings, play counts) and all the itunes library content files (Artist/Album, movies, etc.)
The lyrics are inside each songs' file.
The Artwork should also be in this folder.
    +-User Name\Application Data\Apple Computer+
    +-User Name\Local Settings\Apple Computer+
These include the backups you need for the ipod and apps data.
You don't need to deauthorize if you are simply reinstalling itunes. You only need to deauthorize if you are reinstalling Windows itself.
+--Can I copy the iTunes folder from the external HDD and paste it back into the same location after I recover my laptop+
    Yes
+if the version of iTunes is slightly different (I have 10.1.0.54)?+
If the new version is at least 10.1.0.54
It won't work to go backwards to an older version such as v9.0
