ITunes 9.2 Hanging on "Restoring iPhone Frimware.."

Sorry if this has been posted before
Whenever I run iTunes and try to update any of my devices (iPad, iPhone 3GS & 4 or iPod Touch) the pop up window gets as far as "Restoring iPhone Firmware.."
The progress bar get to about 4mm away from being full and then stays there, I've left my MacBook for 24 hrs before and it's still stayed there
I've tried uninstalling iTunes and,
/System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/MobileDevice.framework,
/Library/Receipts/AppleMobileDeviceSupport.pkg
Then reinstaled iTunes etc and it's works for 2 restores and then it goes back to not working again and it's a nuisance to keep having to do this
Has anyone found a way to fix this? This just randomly happened to me one day and has been annoying me since
I'm using iTunes 9.2 (or whatever the latest is :p) and I'm running OSX 10.6.4 and it was also doing this on 10.6.3
Any help would be greatly apprecicated. Thanks in advance
Ben

  • Secure link to iTunes Store Failed, Can't restore iPhone.

    Good day,
Am hoping to get some help please. We recently upgraded our desktop from Windows XP to Windows 7. Re-installed all the software as well as iTunes 10.
All has been working fine, up until yesterday. The playlist which we where syncing with the iPhone 3G, had been changed and we wanted to sync the changes to the phone.
When preforming the sync, it got to the point where it said "Finishing Sync" in iTunes, the phone said "Sync in Progress" and iTunes froze completely. (Not Responding) Left it for about 30mins, after which it still said the same. I rebooted the machine and the phone, and tried again with the same error. I then tried removing all music and videos from the phone. Same problem.
My last resort was to attempt a restore of the phone. It started the restore and eventually got to a point where iTunes came up with the error 2003, unable to restore iPhone, the phone was now stuck in restore mode with the iTunes Logo and USB plug on the main screen.
So off to the iStore to get it fixed. The phone was reformatted/restored there and was working fine but I did not have any contacts/messages or photos on the phone, so I attempted another restore, so I could get my info back. It came up with the same issue again. Error 2003.
I then started browsing around and found out the iTunes diagnostics, it fails every time on the "Secure link to iTunes", iTunes has been added to the Windows firewall, I have tried un-installing my AntiVirus software and trying it with again but same result. I have checked the ports are all open. I have tried to reset my hosts file. I have reset my internet explorer settings, but nothing is working.
Can anybody help me out with this please.

The results show that you have a proxy server set and this can often cause problems with iTunes.
The proxy setting can be accessed in Internet options>>Connections>>LAN Settings.
Try un-checking the proxy server check box.
It might also be a good idea to run a malware check if you didn't know you had the proxy server set.
You can download a free version of an excellent scanner- Malwarebytes here:

  • ITune keeps asking me to restore IPhone 4 after error in updating OS 5.0.1

My IPhone 4 froze while updating to OS 5.0.1. I guess this was because I updated ITune first and without restart Windows 7 I atttempted to update IPhone. I got an error message code "1603" So I push Power button and Home button at the same time to return from the freeze. And, restarted the Windows.
After rebooting, I connected my IPhone to the PC, ITune promted and asked me restore it with options 1: restore from backup and 2: restore as a new phone. At that time ITune did not recognize my IPhone to be the Apple device that it synced all the time. Because I afraid to lose any data in IPhone, I chose " Option 1: restore from Backup. Succefully, I got all data: photos, email message and contacts, but music and apps are gone from my IPhone.
So I reconnected my IPhone to the PC. Then ITune asked me to restore it again and again.
Currently, ITune library contains my apps and songs. All I want to do is let ITune to recognize my IPhone and sync with IPhone so my IPhone gets the apps and song again.
Please help me. Is it OK to choose "Option 2: restore as a new phone"? Will it erase all apps and songs in ITune Library or transfer them into IPhone?
    Thanks,

IMHO I've found a solution!  (after reading more on the varios boards I did):
    1. Dissconected the iPhone from the computer
    2. On the iTunes Edit -> Preferences -> Devices (TAB)
    3. Erased all of the listed Backups  (NOTE! I did backup the iPhone 15 times already ...)
    4. Clicked the Rest Synched History button
    5. Connected the iPhone to the computer
PRESTO!  Now it synched some apps and music and allowed me to use the iTunes on my computer as always.
Thanks for everyone that helped me figure this out!
    Hope this helps ...

  • My iphone is stuck in recovery mode. it is about 70 percent done and won't move anymore. This has been going on for the past 2 days. itunes is stuck on the restoring iphone software. Please Help

My iphone is stuck in recovery mode. The apple logo is up and proceeded about 70percent of the way then it just stops moving. I have looked all over the internet and I am out of warranty. On itunes it reads restoring iphone software. My software was 4.3.2 but it was in the process of being upgraded to 4.3.3 so i dont know if it is being restored to 4.3.2 or 4.3.3... Please help

I still have the Same Problem.

  • 2.0 update--now my phone hangs at "Restoring iPhone software..."

I've read posts with lots of other problems regarding the update from 1.1.4 to 2.0, but I didn't see anything relevant to what I'm experiencing (it also appears as the Apple iPhone support forum is having some problems).
This morning I updated my iTunes to 7.7, as prompted. Then I plugged in my iPhone to charge, and was prompted to update my software, which I did. 95 minutes later, iTunes still says "Restoring iPhone software..." and I have the apple on the black screen on my phone, with the circling "in process" going round and round. (No beach ball of death on my computer screen, however.)
What do I do? I really need my phone to make some calls.

    Hello,
After reading about 2 hours worth of posts, the one thing that kept coming up was the issue of having to use a USB 2.0 PC card (my PowerBook is as old as the hills and only has 1.1 ports).
I finally unplugged it from my Mac and plugged it directly into my PC (luckily, I have a company-provided computer as well). 10 minutes later, I was updated and ready to go. I plugged the phone back into my Mac to restore and all was well.
If you are connecting your phone to a 1.0 or 1.1 USB port, OR connecting to a 2.0 port via a hub or a PC card, I would highly recommend using a different computer with a direct 2.0 port, for the update.
I have no problem syncing right now with my USB 2.0 PC card, but going forward, I will only install updates using my PC with a direct 2.0 port (until I can afford a new PowerBook).
I do wonder if I would have problems syncing if I had more stuff on my phone. Right now I'm only using about 2G of my 8G. Time will tell.
Good luck--I hope this solution works for you. I know how frustrating it can be.

  • How do I get iTunes to allow me to restore iPhone files from backup?

My iPhone 5 was previously backed up via iTunes to my laptop running OS 10.8.4.  However, the File | Devices | Restore option in iTunes is grayed out (AAARGH!).  Moreover, I cannot figure out where the backup file is stored on my laptop.  I need to pull back a video that was accidentally deleted.
    Any ideas?

To restore from back up try the steps in the article below apart from the one you already tried:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1766
Also to check for a back up you can do this two ways:
    - iTunes>Preferences>Devices>Device Backups
    Or
    Mac: ~/Library/Application Support/MobileSync/Backup/

  • HELP! Unable to move iTunes songs to a new/restored iPhone

I've restored a new 3Gs iPhone from a month old backup of a defunct 3Gs and none of the songs transferred in from my iTunes. I tried manually dragging them but iTunes wouldn't let me! Does anyone know how to fix this??

Thanks.  D is a local Toshiba 500GB portable drive.
I tried the MkLink command alone and it told me I needed to add arguments so I know it recognizes the command. I did not try changing the directory syntax. That might have worked.
I found reference elsewhere to junction.exe.  I installed Junction.exe on D: and  opened a cmd window to d:
I ran the junction program to creat the junction and it worked.
Seems like a lot of folks have a problem with MkLink
    Thanks for your help

  • Itunes says "restoring iphone apps" as soon as I connect my phone to the computer after ios 5 update

So I've downloaded ios5. And itunes just gets stuck at "restoring iphone apps".
even if I close itunes (which I can only do with the task mananger) and then reboot it, as soon as I connect the phone it says "restoring iphone apps" again and just gets stuck at that. So I cannot access anything on there.
Doesn't help that I now can't even use my phone at all as it keeps telling me I can't use the e-mail address that I have registered as it's already in use!!!!!
So I now have a phone that I cannot use at all! An I can't restore on itunes because it gets stuck in that loop if I plug it in!

The same happened to me. While it's restoring apps, you will be able to set up your ipod with iOS5. You can do that without disconnecting it from your computer. It will take quite a long time but it will go from restoring ipod apps, to restore music, videos and pictures. Be patient and it will finish the process in a few hours.

  • Forgotten passcode - can't restore iPhone

    Hello.
My iPhone got disabled after I entered passcode wrong several times. It asks to connect the device to iTunes, so I did. I followed steps from the instructions here http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1212?viewlocale=en_US ("if you've never synced your device with itunes" since I reinstalled Windows and lost the reserved copy of my iPhone in iTunes). After the first time I put iPhone into recovery mode, iTunes downloaded some updates and restored iPhone but I still had the problem with passcode. The device was still disabled and asked to connect it to iTunes. I put it into recovery mode again but I can't restore it because error 1611 occurred.
How can I restore my iPhone and solve the problem with passcode?
    Thank you.

Click here and follow the instructions.

  • Restore: iTunes hung on ""Restoring iPhone Software..." with progress 100%

i just got my iphone replaced at Apple store and was attempting to install the latest version of the OS when it hung up. then while attempting to "restore", it made it to the message "restoring iPhone software..." but has been hung-up there for a couple of hours. what can i do to fix this???

When you say it is hanging what exactly do you see iTunes doing? what is on the iPhone?
Article below may assist. Also a couple quick bullet point tips
*Ensure you try and restore in other USB Ports if needed
*Try and use back USB ports if you are using a desktop computer
*Do not try and restore while connected to a USB Hub, or using a USB Extension cable to extend the length of the iPhone cable
*Disconnect any un-needed devices from the PC/Mac to allow more power and speed to transfer to ports needing it. Things to unplug may include Printers, Scanners, Cameras, External HDs not needing to be used right away etc.
*Disabling any Security software just for the restore process to finish properly
*Restore/Update using a new user account or another computer
