ITunes 9.2 Installer Won't Complete Activation Phase - Can't Install

Sorry for starting a whole new thread if I didn't need to. I am having a very similar problem as at least another user in the forum. Yesterday, iTunes 9.2 - which had been working fine - began to hang while loading, and it kept bringing the whole system down. I ran disk utility, tried starting the Mac in safe mode - nothing worked. So I trashed iTunes, downloaded the standalone installer, and it just will not work. It gets about halfway through the Activation phase, and then says that the installation failed.
I've also tried unintalling iTunes completely via instructions from Apple. I've run Disk Warrior and rebuilt the desktop several times. I've trashed the installer and downloaded a fresh copy. Nothing I've tried seems to work. I've made sure that iTunes Helper process isn't running, and that it's not in my startup items. I even reinstalled OS 10.6.4 using the combo installer. My patience is growing kind of thin. Other than wiping everything out and starting from scratch, I don't know of any other fix. I would really hate to have to start from scratch. I would really appreciate some guidance to get this problem fixed. It's extremely frustrating.

Have exactly the same issue, old laptop stolen, bought new laptop,
imported account from time machine, library is invisible, at the botom of each section it tells you the number of films, tracks pod csts etc but there is no content.
If you look in the iTunes folder content is there... however there seems to be no upgrade file so maybe the iTunes library was not upgraded and iTUnes thinks it was....

  • Itunes 10.5.3 won't complete the download- errors while installing

    Hey everyone-
For the last month or two I have tried to upgrade my Itunes from 10.5.1?, first to 10.5.2 and then 10.5.3. Each time I tried to upgrade, the installation almost completes before this message comes up "Errors occurred while installing the updates. If the problem persists, choose tools> downloads only and try installing manually. I have tried to install manually and get the same result.
Now I am back at version 10.4.1 because I couldn't sync my Ipod nano anymore to 10.5.1 and had to redo my library.
Any help in figuring out how to upgrade to 10.5.3 would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks!!!!

I tried turning off my anti-virus to no avail. I really have no idea what are they are talking about with "Tools-Downloads" The only place you can do anything is under Help-Check for Updates, and I assumed that was the same thing.
I also tried to email Apple but they need the serial number of my Itunes. How do you find that? I didn't even know Itunes had a serial number.

  • Itunes 6.0.2 won't completely install

Tried to install v 6.0.2 a couple of days ago but got following message at end:
"...install was interrupted before it could be completely installed. System has not been modified. Click finish and try to install again." Tried that...same thing..
I've read some of the posts here and have verified I have all antivirus / spyware turned off. I ran ewido and deleted what it found (cookies). Next ran adaware - deleted what it found (cookies and virus). Then ran AVG free (freeware to detect virus') and deleted what it found (several trojan horse virus in different directories although none seemingly related to itunes or quicktime). Thought I was making progress until I went back to download & reinstall standalone (quicktime) and got same "interrupted before install complete" message.
I have verified I no longer have itunes listed as one of my programs. I do see qttask.exe as one of my processes running in task manager. Not sure if it should be there or not.
Through all of this I no longer have songs on my ipod although I noticed they are in their normal directory on the PC.
Don't know what to do next. I'm going on a trip in 5 days and would like to at least get my songs locaded back on my ipod - even if it means I have to wait till later to fix itunes. Not sure if this is possible however.
Thx in advance for any suggestions.

    hi y'all!
lefty, even though you're not getting a 1607 (or a quit with no error message at the "publishing product information" stage), did you try applying the relevant techniques from the document Katrina linked you to earlier in the thread?
iTunes for Windows installation quits while publishing product information
... might be worth a try. we managed to fix one of your error messages using that doc on a 6.0.3.5 install earlier this evening:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=1751177#1751177
(i thought that the error message might have been associated with having this problem on a 6.0.3.5 install ... but apparently not, given your report.)

  • Installation won't complete because Windows messenger but it is not open

When I try and install Flash Player 10.x it starts and then tells me it will continue after I close Windows Messenger and Explorer.  I can close explorer but Messenger is not open therefore I am unable to complete the installation.  I have uninstalled other Flash player, turned off security and decreased Internet security to medium when trying this installation.  Still no dice.  Can someone help so I don't get stung with a $40 charge?  Please

You are great!!  It did what you suggested and it worked.  Now I am going to go back and see how it works.
    Thank you so much.
I hope you have an extra-good day.  I know my day is better.

  • ITunes and my iPhone won't sync.  What can I do with this software issue?

I have a PowerBook G4 running OSX 10.5.8 and I have iTunes 10.  I also have an iPhone 4.  I recently upgraded to iOS 7 on my iPhone 4, I then plugged my iPhone up to iTunes to sync.  Now iTunes is telling me due to the upgrade of the iOS, it will not recognize the device.  I would have to upgrade to iTunes 11.  Easier said than done, right?  But the system requirements to run iTunes 11 is at least running OSX 10.6 or later.  This sounds great but i think my PowerBook G4 cannot hold or run 10.6, iTunes 11 cannot run without the OSX of 10.6 or later, and my iPhone 4 cannot be recognized by iTunes since the iOS's too new.  but can't upgrade iTunes to 11.  What can I do to resolve this communication/software issue without purchasing out the wah-zoo?

  • Itunes error while updating to 8,02, now i can't install the update

so i ran the update through itunes for the 8.02 update. it downloaded the update and while it tried to install it, it says
"The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable"
So i point it to the correct folder, and i get this error message
the file itunes.msi is not a valid installation package for the product itunes. try to find the installation pacakge "itunes.msi" in a folder form which you can install Itunes
So i ran it the update THREE TIMES and each time i get that same error. For some reason it thinks the itunes.msi is not complete, but according to the updater program, it finished downloading. (FYI its 37,101,056 bytes)
Soooo i downlaoded a new version of itunes from the apple website and again i'm getting the same error messages.
So i tried uninstalling it from the control panel, and again,

It sounds as though you need the Microsoft Installer clean up utility..
    Here is a method:
    == uninstall with cleanup ==
Download a fresh copy of iTunes and the stand alone version of Quicktime (the one without iTunes)
    http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/win.html
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
Download and install Microsoft Installer cleanup utility, there are instructions on the page as well as the download. Note that what you download is the installer not the program – you have to run it to install the program. The installer doesn't give any message to confirm the installation.
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301/
(To run the program – All Programs>>Windows Install)
Now use the following method to remove iTunes and its components:
    XP
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1925
    Vista
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1923
*If you hit a problem with one of the uninstalls don't worry*, carry on with the deleting of files and folders as directed in the method.
When you get to deleting Quicktime files in the system32 folder as advised in the method, you can delete any file or folder with Quicktime in the name.
    Restart your PC.
Run the Microsoft Installer Cleanup Utility. (Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up)
Remove any references you find to the programs you removed - strictly speaking you only need to worry about those programs where the uninstall failed.
If you don’t see an entry for one of the programs that did not uninstall, look out for blank entries or numeric entries that look like version numbers e.g. 7.x for Quicktime or 1.x for Bonjour.
    restart your PC
Install the stand alone Quicktime and check that it works.
    If it does, install iTunes.

  • Boot Camp won't update, no Bluetooth, can't install drivers, see OS X DVD

I have a client who has a whole mess:
Mac Mini Core2Duo running Leopard 10.5.6
    Boot Camp 1.4 Beta
    Vista
Inserting the OS X DVD produces nothing, can't see it, can't open it, can't install drivers from OS X Install Disc 1.
Can't update Boot Camp to 2.1 (update never executes no matter how long you wait after dblclick)
No Bluetooth in Vista, anywhere. Mighty Mouse somehow works but no scrolling with the ball.
    Won't run Apple Bluetooth Installer.exe
My only recommendation at this point is to delete the Windows partition and start from scratch, and put XP back on instead of Vista, hoping that we'll be able to update Boot Camp to 2.1 and put the drivers on from the OS X Install Disc 1 that came with the Mini. This is fairly difficult to explain or even comprehend on my part, and I've been doing this for decades.
Anybody have a hint for me?

Oh nevermind. I was doing this via remote and as it works out, some people don't know if they have Leopard or Tiger.

  • Safari won't quit, so I can't install Office Mac.

Hey guys. I got my new Office Mac, and I was hoping to install it. It said Firefox and Safari needed to close. Firefox was a snap (good job guys!), but Safari is doing HORRIBLE. It is not forcing to quit at all, and I don't want to restart or shut down (I bet it wouldn't work.) Now, according to THIS issue... I can't install my Mac Office 2011, and THAT on the other hand stinks, because I need it for school projects.
Is anyone willing to offer advice??? Thanks!!!
    ~AppleFan17

You say even force quitting won't work? When Safari is open hold down Option + ⌘ + Q.

  • ITunes Unresponsive (frozen), or won't complete sync

G4 TiBook, 10.4.9 completely up to date. My original iPod (same model) wouldn't keep a charge; Apple replaced it under extended warrantee in 2006. The iPod plays, charges fine from the AC adaptor, but when I connect it to the Mac, iTunes become unresponsive most of the time, and I cannot completely force quit iTunes (it disappears from Activity Monitor, but it is still marked as open in the Dock, and the entire system becomes sluggish. I have to manually disconnect the iPod or firewire cable to get it to fully quit. I have been able to Restore the iPod software twice (once got an unknown error 1418), and was able to sync the music from Mac to iPod once, but only after numerous failed attempts (it would get a few tunes synched, but get no further). Prior to getting sync to work fully, I removed: com.apple.iTunes.plist, com.apple.iPod.plist, com.apple.iTunesHelper.plist. I'm not sure if that had any bearing on the finaly successful sync.
I've spent hours on this, rebooting, etc. Any ideas on what could be wrong, and any plists I might want to remove? I'm plugged directly into the only firewire port on the Mac directly. Firewire seems fine in general.

    3rd gen/dock white 40GB   Mac OS X (10.4.9)   iPod software 2.3

I moved the iPod and dock to a different Mac (an Intel MBP), plugged it in, got an error (apologies, don't know for sure if it was a 1418 or other, but some kind of 'can't recognize error'), Restored and synched with this other computer's iTunes library. I'll try back on the tibook tonight and report.

  • My computer froze and I had no choice but to turn it off. When I turned it back on, it would no longer open iTunes. It says "error 7 (windows error 14001). iTunes said to uninstall and then reinstall iTunes. Windows installer won't work.

My computer froze, so I had to finally turn it off. When I turned it on again, it wouldn't open iTunes. Error7 (Windows error 14001) appeared. I could not uninstall and reinstall iTunes because now Windows Installer isn't working either. Tried using "System Restore" from a backup, but still didn't fix problem. Tried online purchase of registry cleanup ("Error End"), but that didn't solve problem either.
How can I get iTunes to open? Any suggestions for getting Windows Installer to work? Thanks!

  • Acrobat XI installation won't complete-- says it was "interrupted"

I run Windows 7 64-bit in a Parallels virtual machine on my MacBook Pro (16GB RAM, 256GB SSD).
Had Acrobat X Pro installed and functioning fine.
Bought & downloaded XI. Tried installing.
Install almost finished entirely when the following message popped up:
"The wizard was interrupted before Adobe Acrobat XI Pro (11.0.07) could be completely installed."
    Rebooted, turned off AVG antivirus.
    Uninstalled Acrobat 10.
Tried XI installation with the same result.
Re-downloaded the installation file thinking the first might have been corrupted.
Rebooted. Tried XI 3rd installation with the same result.
Downloaded & installed the Akamai installer.
Downloaded the XI install file through that.
Tried XI 4th installation with the same result.
Please keep in mind that I've been an IT professional for over 15 years.
this just shouldn't be this problematic.
I recall similar problems with the X install.
    Don't recall the remedy.
    Suggestions?

    Thank you, Pat.
After posting I moved on to trying various other scenarios including your suggestion.
I've pretty much exhausted the 'easier' options & will be removing all the Adobe suite installations in their entirety, then cleaning and installing only Acrobat XI.
If that works then I'll move on to the hours-long process of reinstalling the other Adobe apps I use.
    I DO appreciate your feedback.

  • I TUNE INSTALLATION WON'T COMPLETE

How do I finish my installation of i tunes?  HRESULT:0x80073712 is the message received.

Assuming you are in a region where you are allowed to redownload your past music purchases, delete the corrupt tracks from the music section of your iTunes library, close & then reopen iTunes, go to the iTunes Store home page, click the Purchased link from the Quick Links section in the right-hand column, then select Music and Not on this computer. You should find download links for your tracks there.
While downloading select Downloads in the left-hand column and make sure Allow Simultaneous Downloads is unchecked. This seems to help with partial downloads...
If the problem persists, or that facility is not yet available in your region, contact the iTunes Store support staff through the "Report a problem" links in your account history, or via Contact Support.
