Itunes 9.2 keeps changing my genre to Pranks

ANy new music I add to iTunes appears with its original genre. If I try to change the genre to something that starts with a number then it changes to pranks or ska after i hit enter
It only happens if I change the genre to something starting with a number.
If I change it to Tech House its fine. If I change it to 23 Tech House then it changes to pranks!!
I have my DJ genres starting with a number so they stay together in the genre list
ANy ideas ?

I can confirm this happens on iTunes 9.2
I try to browse by genre with a column browser on Top, go to a genre like '80's Groove' double click a track, it dissapears (starts playing though). Turns out its genre is no longer the same, but it is changed to Folk!!!
Looks like a Bug...!
You can even click CMD+I on a track - before playing it - and see its genre is changed already, as soon as it is accessed
Screenshot: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/2194922/Screen%20shot%202010-06-21%20at%209.00.18%20%CF% 80.%CE%BC..png
I can confirm this works, as far as I can see, only with Genres beginning with numericals. Other weird genres I have in my Library didn't get affected.
Furthermore debugging…. and now it gets interesting…
Setting a Genre with a number automatically changes the Genre like this:
"10s" or 10 or "10 silly questions"-> New Age
20... -> Alternative
30 -> Fusion
40 -> AlternRock
50 -> Darkwave
60 -> Top 40
70 -> Trailer
80 ->Folk
90 ->Avantgarde
100 ->Humor
00 -> Blues
5 -> Funk
etc…
Well… is this a bug? Is it intentional? I don't see why I can't name a Genre however I like….

  • I'm having problems with iTunes that keeps changing the genre of music that I have already changed

    I'm a Dj and I make extensive use of inteligent playlists mostly defined by genre and classification.
    I currently have about 70 different playlists, and almost everyone are very important, because I know what music to play, but in some cases I don't remember the name. So it's very usefull for me to know where I can find it according to the genre that I defined.
    BUT!! WHAT HAPPENS IS THAT iTunes keeps changing the genre of some music to the previous that is available on the itunes store (that I don't use because is too vague)
    Do you know what might be happening?

    Hello Torre,
    DAQmx is in fact more efficient than Traditional DAQ, so this behavior you describe shouldn't be the rule. I haven't been able to debug/check thoroughly your code, so here's what I suggest:
    a) Try the W2000 option to give more time to background processes (see this link).
    http://zone.ni.com/devzone/conceptd.nsf/webmain/28A6979ECA9A0CAF862569050053D92D?opendocument
    b) Try with the LabVIEW supplied DAQ examples which do a similar task and test/compare their performance
    c) Check with the LabVIEW tools where the time is spent (Profile VIs tool)
    Hope this will help !
    Regards,

  • I use a lot of custom genres for sorting.  iTunes has recently been changing the genres of 200  songs back to their default every time I update.  How can I lock in my custom genres?

    How do I lock in custom genres so iTunes doesn't change them?

    The most likely cause is that affected songs are iTunes Store purchases (or are being matched to the Store).  To prevent the Store metadata over-riding yours, set the following options to OFF in Edit > Preferences > Store:
    Show iTunes in the Cloud Purchases
    Share details of your library with Apple
    Exit iTunes, when you start it again you should see your metadata selections and these should now be stable.  Also, if you have any iOS devices select Settings > Music and turn the Show All Music option OFF.  This should maintain your genre selections as well as any other changes you make to Artist, Album Artist, Album settings, etc.

  • ITunes on MBP keeps altering song information without my inputing any changes

    It seems several people are having this problem, as far as I can tell from other blogs and discussion boards, but I have yet to find an answer that corrects the issue permanently. iTunes (v. 11.3 (54)) on my MBP mid-2012 13" (running OS X Mavericks, v. 10.9.4) model keeps changing the genre of my songs. I have, in the past, organized songs according to genres as I liked and have not had problems until about 3 months ago. I have tried several fixes but it I cannot find one that keeps iTunes from making the changes on its own without my input in the song information. All I have to do to change the song back is simply "play" it. When I do iTunes reverts the song's information back to where it should be and places it within that genre. Then the next time I reopen iTunes it has changed all the songs again. If anyone has a fix please post here or link me to one that has worked for you. This issue has also started to change some album and artist information. One fix I found that worked only temporarily (until I turned my MacBook back on) was going to Preferences >> Advanced and unchecking the "Keep iTunes Media folder organized." Worked for a day and then reverted back to the same problem.

    Yes, others are seeing this. Something in purchased media (I am pretty sure this has only happened with purchased media) is periodically checking back with the iTunes Store and resetting the tags in the iTunes library file but not in the actual media files (metadata are stored in both).  I haven't seen a truly systematic diagnosis of the issue (I use an old iTunes and have no iTunes account so I can't test anything myself).  There are temporary workarounds but tags will still revert after a time.

    Send feedback to Apple about this so they know it is an issue they need to investigate:

  • ITunes 9.2.1 (4) Switching Genre -- how to stop?

    Since I updated iTunes, when I play some music on my Mac, the 'Genre' switches from its original setting (ie: Pop) to a number in brackets, ie: "(13)". I prefer my music sorted by Genre, so I apparently have to keep changing the genre back to the non-numerical code iTunes is setting. Does anyone know how I can stop iTunes from changing my Genre settings? Thanks!

    I customize my genres, etc. but iTunes keeps changing it back. How do I stop this?

    Hi dfrost10,
    I wouldn't be surprised if you were hit with some [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/Is%20my%20Firefox%20problem%20a%20result%20of%20malware?s=malware&r=0&e=sph&as=s#w_how-do-i-get-rid-of-malware Malware]. I'd probably investigate that first.
    If that isn't the case, you should take a look at the Knowledge Base article [[How to set the home page]]. Your homepage might have been changed by a particular site. Sites like MSN, Yahoo, etc have been know to ask to become your homepage.
    There are steps in that article to reset your homepage preferences to default. I would try that first to clear out any strangeness. If that works, you can try setting your homepage again to your personal preference.
    If that doesn't work you should look at the article [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Preferences_not_saved Preferences not saved].
    Hopefully this helps!

  • ITunes 6.0.1.3 and Genre changes

    I have read through a bunch of threads but did not see a response to the following (hence the new post).
    I just went through my libary in iTunes and changes genres across all of my music to what i felt was proper. Now, every time I play a song in iTunes, it changes it back to what it thinks it should be. I have changed the genre back many many times and iTunes continues to change it back. I have confirmed that I have full access to the file.
    Am I doing something wrong when using the 'Get Info' dialog ad changing the Genre of a music file? Is iTunes actually changing it at the file level or just in memory? I cannot tell you how irritating this is. Just for an example, I changes a Madonna song from Blues (which iTunes keeps labelling it as) to 'Club', but each time I play that song, or any other in that album, it reverts back to 'Blues'.
    Arghhhhhh !
    Any help and guidance would be appreciated, including advice to dump using iTunes as a player and just using it to sync my iPod.
    Thanks.

    an update in case someone can help me figure out iTunes and this issue. I looked at the file directly, and (in the case of the Madonna MP3), confirmed at that level that the Genre was marked as 'Blues'. I went into iTunes, changed it to 'Club', closed iTunes and looked at the file again. Seems that iTunes did not update the tag.
    Thinking this may be a fie issue, I open up Media Player, grab the same some, change the tag to 'Club', close the player and check the file. Low and behold, Media Player was able to change it.
    So to further narrow the scope of my question, does anyone know why iTunes can't push the change at the file level?

  • ITunes 11 - how can I change the genre of a movie now?

    So I've had iTunes 11 for about 3 hours now and so far it *****.  One of my main problems is I can't find how I can change the genre of a movie anymore.  I used to do this from Get Info so I could organise all my movies in to my own genres that make sense to me which helps me find what I want to watch when using Apple TV.
    It will still let me do that for movies I bought before I "upgraded" to 11 but for the movies I bought this evening, after upgrading, the genre drop down is locked down.
    Am I just looking in the wrong place?  Or have Apple somehow got the idea that pointlessly preventing your customers from organising their content in their own way is somehow an improvement and I'm stuck with their nonsensical genre classifications?
    Same thing goes for movie titles now I think of it - I've edited movie titles after purchase (e.g. I've put HP1 in front of the title of Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone and HP2 in front of Chamber of Secrets) so that series list in watching order, rather than alphabetical order, on my Apple TV.  It's not letting me do that from Get Info either
    Please someone tell me I'm just doing it wrong - I don't think I've the patience to jump through the hoops necessary to get 10.7 back!

    I had the same bug in songs. It was directly related to tracks purchased in the iTunes store, they wouldn't allow any changes, it was all grayed out.
    Here's how I got around it. When I selected more than one item and any other item was not from the iTunes store it would allow me to Get Info and change everything with no problems.
    My suggestion is that if you need to, add in a movie from your hard drive (anything at all, it will be a dummy placeholder) that you can you use to select along with the one you need to change. Use command click to select non-contiguous files (even works in different genres), then get info (or command i) and then change your info. You can keep using the same dummy file for as long as you need to to fix the files with incorrect info, then delete it when done.

  • Music Genre Keeps Changing

    My music genre of my purchased Itunes music keeps changing. It's gotten to the point that it's really frustrating. Especially since I have my music categorized how I want. I feel like my freedoms with iTunes are slowly being restricted. It's music that I pay for so why shouldn't I be able to edit the details how I see fit?!?! Is there any way to rectify this issue because it keeps happening and again, it's frustrating.

    In iTunes go to Edit > Preferences > Store and turn off
    Show iTunes in the Cloud purchases
    Share details about your library with Apple
    On any iOS device go to Settings > Music and turn off
    Show All Music
    Close and reopen iTunes and/or reset the device and you should see your version of the metadata for each track rather than the original store data.

  • ITunes 12: Changing my genres, fixes don't stick

    Just downgraded to iTunes 12 since Apple's answer to the MS Paper Clip, the little dialog window that won't die, finally got the best of me.
    What a mistake. Please don't do it, peeps.
    My main annoyance is that the genres of my music keep changing. I fix them, they change. Sometimes in a minute, sometimes in a day.
    I have just switched OFF "Keep iTunes Media Library" organized. Why? Somebody mentioned it. It's not helping.
    I can't tell if it's only iTunes music purchases that it's affecting. Possibly. Any ideas? Thanks, y'all!

  • ITunes changing movie genre

    I appears that iTunes Rev 11.1.5 and earlier has been changing my DvD movie genres in my library. I can set the genre and come back weeks later and they all seem to default to Action & Adventure which happens to be the first custom genre in my list. This issues has been happening for several iTunes revs now. I have a large movie collection so going back and reentering the genres is not a solution. The issue voids me of any genre sorting.

    1. iTunes > Preferences > Advanced > Keep iTunes Media folder organized and Copy files to iTumes Media folder when adding to library [ CHECK ]
    2. Do a iTunes menu File > Library > Organize Library... > Consolidate files
    and then try again.

  • Why is iTunes automatically changing my genre metadata?

    MacBook Pro 15-inch, Mid 2012
    Processor: 2.6 GHz Intel Core i7
    Memory: 8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3
    Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M 1024 MB
    Software: OS X 10.9.3 (13D65)
    iTunes 11-2-2 (3)
    64-bit
    Why is iTunes automatically changing my genre metadata?
    For the past couple months I’ve noticed that iTunes has been changing genre information in my music library.  This is a problem because I’ve spent the past decade tweaking the metadata in my iTunes Library to be exactly the way that I want it (particularly with genre and grouping information).
    I have a very large iTunes library and I’ve changed genre and grouping info for organizational reasons.  When iTunes changes the genre of my music, it’s effecting my smart playlists and causing a domino effect of mis-organization.  Tracks and albums are popping up in multiple genres, and things are getting disorganized very quickly.
    I suspect that iTunes is changing the genre info of my purchased music back to how it appears in the iTunes store and that this is going to be a new ongoing Apple issue that is quietly ignored.  If that’s the case, then I would like some feedback from other users who may have some helpful advise to disconnect iTunes from the mother ship of the iTunes Store.  If this is the way it’s going to be, then I’ll simply stop buying music from iTunes and try to use iTunes as a stand alone music player (if possible).  If that is NOT possible, then I’ll be looking into moving my entire music library to different software and completely removing myself from iTunes.  After a decade of loving iTunes, that would obviously be a shame, but losing control of my library is a deal breaker.
    Any assistance is greatly appreciated.
    Other notes/observations:
    -I am NOT using iTunes Match
    -Genius is turned OFF
    -Tracks being automatically edited is music that has been purchased from the iTunes Store
    -Not all tracks purchased from the iTunes Store is being automatically edited
    -If I Command-Info a track that has been edited by iTunes, the metadata changes back to what I had changed it to.  But ONLY when I Command-Info or play the track.  Otherwise the track stays lost in it’s reversed genre and the track disappears from smart playlists that it’s included in.

    Yep, others are seeing the same thing and I have not seen a solution posted yet.
