ITunes 9.2 Media kind

After I upgraded itunes to 9.2, All my music videos went from Media kind (Music videos) to just (Music).
Now my iPhones after syncing only plays the music not the videos, now when I select a single music video and go to info I can only select media kind, Music, Podcast, iTunes U, AudioBook, or Voice memo,
But not Music Video, or TV Show, Or Movies Like before. If I select all the Music Videos and go to info only then I can select Music Videos, but I when I select the Music Videos Option it just wont work, or do the changes.
After the Upgrade the iTunes Music Videos Playlist Is Empty.
Please Help

try if this script can help:
_*Set Video Kind of Selected v3.1*_
+This script will change the video kind property of the selected tracks to your choice of "Movie", "Music Video" or "TV Show". Additionally, "Show Name", "Season Number", and "Episode Number" can also be set or cleared for each selected track.

Protected files, such as those purchased from the iTunes Store, cannot be changed. Requires iTunes 7 or better.+

  • ITunes 11 - Changing Media Kind to Podcast not sticking?

I've got several podcasts I downloaded manually and then added to iTunes. They automatically showed up in the Music category, so I tried to change the Media Kind field to Podcast to switch them over. It lets me select Podcast, but won't stick. Changing to a different tab in the Get Info window resets my selection, and selecting podcast and immediately hitting OK fails to register the change as well.
Anyone else encounter this and found a way around it?

    This for Mac only (sorry).
'Subler' offers a nice 'clean' way of adding the requisite tags to m4a files, also for iTunes U.
    It's free at http://code.google.com/p/subler/
This works only for m4a files. I have not found a solution for mp3s.
Do not add your track to iTunes yet, instead, open it in Subler.
In Subler, make sure that the track has at least the Name, Artist and Album tags set (under 'Metadata', create them as necessary using the small '+'-menu down left).
    - For a Podcast, under 'Other Settings' check 'Options: Podcast' and save.
    - For iTunes U, under 'Other Settings' choose 'Media Kind' > 'iTunes U' and save.
Now add your file to iTunes.
    And Apple: please fix!

  • ITunes 11: setting Media Kind to podcast, but keeping files separated by album?

I'm having a weird issue in iTunes 11. I have a bunch of audio lectures that I want iTunes to treat as podcasts, so that I can listen to them through the Podcasts app on my iPhone 5. I prefer the interface of the Podcasts app over the Music app for lecture listening, especially with the feature of playback continuing where it left off, so this is important to me.
Setting Media Kind in iTunes to podcast works fine for the first 'album' that I try, but as soon as I do it to files from a second album, the Podcasts app on my iPhone merges them into the first 'album' / podcast. iTunes on my Mac does keep the new podcasts separate, but as soon as I sync them with my iPhone, the Podcasts app just adds all of the rest of the files I've sync'd in with the first album that I added.
These lectures all came from the same publisher (FYI I legally own them), but I've removed all metadata related to the publisher that I can see in iTunes. There's nothing as far as I can tell that is telling iTunes to group them together, but it keeps on doing it anyway.
Is this a bug, or "working as intended"? Is there a work-around, or maybe something I've overlooked? Thanks!

"I've taken to deleting Podcasts app so that they return (properly organized!) to the old Music app."
This no longer works:  iOS 7 removes this escape route.
You now must use Apple's specific Podcasts app for podcasts – which, of course, still hasn't fixed the original issue (of lumping everything together).  If you try to use Apple's Music app like before, the Podcasts are hidden from view for iOS 7.
As DogDutyAscetic said above:  it's best to just completely switch to Downcast (or other 3rd party) if you make your own podcasts.  Apple has bigger fish to fry than the podcast community, and understandably so as the biggest company in the world.  Rather than fix this issue over the last 12 months, they've instead shut off their working alternative.  A pity, but the writing was on the wall.

  • Tracks disappear from my iPod when I change them to Media Kind: Podcast from Media Kind: Music

Hello. I'm running iTunes 11.0.1(12) in OSX 10.6.8. My iPod is a 160 Gb Classic (model A1238, I believe it's the newest generation, I got it about 6 or 7 months ago.) I manually manage my ipod, always.
I listen to one podcast in particular with hundreds and hundreds of episodes that I like to keep listed as MEDIA KIND: MUSIC in my itunes library, but MEDIA KIND: PODCAST on my ipod. I know this may seem odd to some people, but it is how I like to organize. So, I download the podcast through itunes, change it to music and then change it back to podcast after I load it to my ipod. When I switch the media kind back over on my ipod (music-to-podcast,) the files disappear, no longer visible on my ipod through itunes (in podcasts or music.) The only way I can find them is to do a manual search on the actual ipod (not ideal.) The ipod is also at capacity, so I need to be able to delete these files, as needed, in order to clear space. So, my question is, how do I find them again in itunes, or is there another way to delete them without restoring the ipod. I manage music a lot differently on my ipod than I do itunes, so restoring it and reorganizing everything is a tedious task, that I'd rather avoid.
I realize that the way I do things is unorthodox, but I fail to see why itunes can't manage something that seems as simple as switching the media kind back and forth. I had this problem with my old 160gb ipod classic and older versions of itunes, but I thought that this bug would be fixed by now with itunes 11.
    Thank you.

iTunes is looking for your music in the default directory.  Since everything was moved, re-direct it with the instructions I gave you:
In iTunes, click tools, and then preferences, then go to the advanced tab.
If you know where the music is on the E: drive, select it from the iTunes media folder location option.
It will reload all of the music to your iTunes - You can then select what music you want to add to your iPod.

  • How do I change the default media kind on iTunes 11?

When I add movies to my iTunes, they are automatically labeled under the media kind "Home Videos". Is there a way to change the default media kind to "Movies"? It's very tedious to have to go to Options, then choose Movies under Media Kind for every new movie I add. And I have no intention of waiting until I've added many movies to change them as a batch. My videos are always Movies, so the Home Video option is useless to me. Any ideas?

You're stuck with things the way they are unless Apple decide to change it. There are no options to make it behave as you wish, and Media Kind isn't available as a property that can be modified by a script or I could offer you a one tap fix-it icon.

  • I can't delete an mp3 with it's 'media kind' changed to podcast on my Ipod touch since the Itunes 11.4 update

When I download long mp3 talk shows and place them on my Ipod touch I change their media kind to podcast to take advantage of the 2x speed and 30sec jump back. I have a smart playlist on my Ipod that shows all podcasts on the Ipod. Once I have listened to them I would normally attach my Ipod and highlight the file in the podcast smart playlist and then shift+del and the file is deleted from my Ipod.
Since the 11.4 update of Itunes there has been some alteration of this function. I can no longer shift+del the files from my Ipod. The ONLY way I can delete them is to change their 'media kind' back to mp3 and then shift+del them. This is a massive pain. Why must Itunes be messed up by every update.
A previous update rendered these mp3 media kind changed to podcast unplayable on your Ipod if you have 'skip when shuffling' checked...
I have an Ipod Touch 4th gen 32gb. I am running Itunes with windows XP.

    Have you tried:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Unsync/delete all music and resync
To delete all music go to Settings>General>Usage>Storage>Music>Tap edit in upper right and then tap the minus sign by All Music
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:
iOS: Back up and restore your iOS device with iCloud or iTunes
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.

  • In iTunes I'm having problems changing the "Media Kind" with a number of playlists in the OPTIONS menu from "music" to "audiobook". After going through the steps, the next time I check the items have reverted back to "music". What step am I missing?

In iTunes I'm having problems changing the "Media Kind" in the OPTIONS menu from "Music" to "Audiobook". After going through the steps, the next time I check, the items have reverted back to "Music". What must I do to save it as an "Audiobook"?

After more digging in the Support section here and some Google work, I turned off iTunes Match and lo and behold!  I can change the media kind to Audiobook!  So, it looks like iTunes Match locked the files up somehow and for some reason.
I went into iTunes Store > iTunes Match > "No, Thanks" to disable it on the local PC.

  • Can't edit Media Kind in iTunes 9?

After updating to iTunes 9 I have found that I can't edit the "media kind" label on any of my tracks. This is particularly annoying as I use audiobooks a lot, and now I have to store them as music. In fact, it seems that I can't edit anything under Options at all, such as "skip when shuffling" etc. Any ideas? I have never had a problem with this before and any help would be much appreciated.
    Thanks!

Just a couple of general points that may help in future.
Unless a file has the Podcast flag set, audio files imported into iTunes will be treated as Music (apart from m4b audiobooks) and video files as Movies. You need to manually change the Media Kind after import.
As well as "Media Kind" there is another property inside iTunes called "Video Kind" which indicates if a file is a Movie, TV Show or Music Video. Current builds of iTunes *do not* alter this value in tandem with a change in Media Kind. This could potentially cause problems with smart playlists and perhaps even remote access to the library. The Video Kind property can be set from script.
Given that Media Kind is an internal property of the iTunes database there is no good reason that it can't be applied to any file whether locked or not, but I suspect iTunes first checks for write permissions before making changes so permissions may be an issue whenever you are unable to change the Media Kind.
Unless your selected audiobook files are all in .m4b format iTunes will report any selection of two or more audiobook files as being Music. Ignore it. It can't handle mixed property values either, e.g. a mix of compilation and non-compilation tracks will always show as *Part of a compilation: No.*
When working with single audiobook files you cannot change the status of the *Remember playback position* and *Skip when shuffling* flags. Simply select more than one file to adjust.

  • How to use iTunes COM SDK to set Media Kind for tracks

There is no obvious function to set Media Kind of a track from iTunes COM SDK. Just curious if anyone knows how to do it programmatically?

AFAICT there isn't a way to do it via the COM SDK. I currently do it by simulating window events using AutoIT.

  • HT1473 Can't set media kind to podcast since iTunes 11 upgrade

I have some teaching material in mp3 format that I like to listen to on my iPhone.  Prior to iTunes 11 upgrade, I could import it into iTunes, get info, options tab, then set the Media Kind to Podcast.  This moved it from the music library into the podcast library, which allowed me to take advantage of 30 second rewind while listening, as well as remembering where I was when I left off if I didn't listen to the entire thing in one setting.
Now that I've upgraded to iTunes 11, this no longer works.  I can still select Podcast as Media Kind, but the files stay in the music library and when I do another get info on them, they are still listed as Media Kind of music.
Does anyone know of a work-around for this?
    Thanks.

I've got the same problem. Here is a temporary workaround in windows:
    install mp3tag v2.53, a free tag editor {Google it}
select mp3 file to set as a podcast
right click file, select extended tabs
    select starpage icon
create these fields and values :
    field: COMMENT ITUNPGAP
    value: 0
    field: PODCAST
    value: 1
    field: PODCASTDESC
value: any value, Example ; The Saint

  • BUG - iTunes 10.0 - Changing Media Kind to Audiobook

I think I've found a bug when converting a bunch of MP3s to an Audiobook when Sound Check is on. If you select multiple MP3s (10 or so) and change the Media Kind to Audiobook, a lot of times one of the files does not get changed to Audiobook. It seems like Sound Check starts to normalize the sound and it deselects one of the files. It doesn't happen every time, but it happens often enough to get annoying. Anyone else noticed this?

  • ITunes is changing the "Media Kind" on it's own and won't change back

After the latest update to iTunes my library got all messed up - reassigned album covers, reassigned "media kind".
I've been working on correcting the assignment of media kind and it will not change. I am able to access the "options" and make the
change, but it doesn't take. Just goes back.
For instance, it changed an album to "audiobook". When I select "get info" and go to the "options" tab and then select "music" and then
"okay" the "get info" window closes but the item stays in "audiobook".
It also changed multiple albums to the same name and different artwork. It's a mess. I cannot restore through time machine because my
library is on an external drive. Need to back that thing up!
    Thanks for your help.

Well then unplug everything and start over, try:
Troubleshooting Intermittent Freezes and/or Kernel Panics
Step 1: Do simple maintenance first. Run Disk First Aid from your install CD to check drive and repair permissions. Use a utility like Xupport, Cocktail or Onyx to clean user/system cache, logs, memory swap files, etc. We would also suggest using DiskWarrior or Tech Tool Pro 4 to rebuild directories.
Step 2: Disconnect any external devices except mouse and keyboard. Try a different keyboard and/or mouse if you have one. Also, you might try hooking up another monitor if you have one.
Step 3: Pull your stock RAM out and reseat it. Remove any third-party RAM you installed. Just use the RAM that came with computer or install new "known good" RAM.
Step 4: Pull your video card out and reseat it.
Step 5: Run your hardware tester that came with your computer on extended mode. If all checks ok, proceed to next step.
Step 6: Reset your PMU and NVRAM.
Step 7: Create another User account and run computer under that user. This will help determine if the problem is software related and localized to your Home (Library) folder or your root System.
Step 8: Start and run computer in Safe Mode. This is equivalent to running OS 9 with extensions turned off.
Step 9: Do an Archive and Install. Run the computer for an extended period of time without adding anything back from your Previous System folder.
Step 10: Reformat your drive using "Zero all data" option with your Disk Utility and install a fresh OS X off your install disk.
Step 11: Reinstall your applications one at a time.
Step 12: If you're still experiencing problems after going through the steps above, at this point, your video card, logic board and/or processor(s) may need to be replaced. Take unit to an Apple Service Center. NOTE: You can contact Apple and see if they will send you a video card to try. It's a user serviceable part.

  • ITunes changing media kind

iTunes Match seems to have a mind of its own.
Here's my problem. I recorded a programme from the radio purely to listen to at a later time. It is a mixture of interview and classical music. Recorded as an AAC file at 320kbps. File size 161mb. So I do not want this to upload to iTunes match (it is one of a series of 5 related programmes).
I know that if I import this into iTunes with Match turned on it will just assume it is music and it will lock the media kind. So I turn iTunes Match off and then import the file. I change the medai type to Audiobook and the file disappears into my books section safe from the grip of Match.
I then turn on Match again. And as if by magic a few minutes later it has hauled the programme from the Books section and back into music and changed the media kind back to music, greyed it out and started uploading the file.
So my workaround has been defeated.
    I am using iTunes 10.6.1
I have generally been happy with iTunes match which after a fairly indifferent match performance at the start now seems to be delivering a consistently good performance matching music I expect it to match.
But unless Apple develop an option to exclude files from matching or uploading I fear that I shall not be bothering to renew my Match sub.
If anyone can supply a diffirent workaround I'd love to learn of it. (I have already tried using Podcast as an alternative media type but iTunes changes that one too).

  • Itunes media kind won't change

Ok.  I give up.  Why is the media kind dim in iTunes.  I put a big batch of audio books (that were Audiobooks before I drug them in) and now they are music... DIM music!  So I can't change it back and now it's wasting a bunch of time syincing to iCloud.  Why?  I can't fathom why this doesn't just work?  I can't imagine how this is a 'feature.'  Why is everying so pointlessly difficult since Lion?

    Hi,
Do you have iTunes Match? If so, turn it off then you will be able to change media type. Once changes made, turn match back on.
