ITunes 9.2 won't detect my iPhone 4 or my CD drive

I picked up an iPhone 4 today. When I connected it to my laptop, first my PC thought it was a camera which was nothing new. I changed the setting for the computer to do nothing when the iPhone is installed.
But then nothing else happened. The phone made a noise when I plugged it in and it's charging, but iTunes can't tell it is there.
I ran a diagnostic next. The network connectivity tests were all fine. The CD/DVD drive test failed. The device connectivity tests were fine except that it could not find the iPhone.
Is this happening to anyone else, and have you found a solution?

For anyone else having this issue on OS X this post will fix it.
Steps 7, 8 and 9 may not be required in Snow Leopard.

my iTunes won't detect my iPhone that has to be restored via iTunes *because if pass code problems* and its running iOS 7.0.4

If itunes is comming up and saying it can't read the device because it's locked with a passcode, you may have to put your device into recovery mode first.
To put your device in recovery mode: (Following these steps will erase your device and reset everything to factory defaults)
    1) press and hold the power button until you see the slide to power off option
    2) swipe to power off
    3) Press and hold the home button while the device is off and connect it to your computer. Continue holding the home button until you see a graphic with the iTunes logo with a picture of a USB cable below it.
    4) iTunes should give you a message that it has detected a device in recovery mode. Click ok and then select Restore iPhone. iTunes will download a fresh copy of iOS and then wipe the device and restore it. Depending on the speed of your computer's internet connection this may take a while. Just leave the iphone connected to your computer until it's finished.
If itunes is not detecting it at all or is Not giving you the message that the phone is locked with a passcode, you may end up having to reinstall itunes. This seems to be a fairly common problem after the most recent itunes update (11.1.5)
If this is the case and you happen to be running a windows based computer you will have to uninstall itunes in this order from your programs and features option in control panel:
    iTunes
    Apple Software Update
    Apple Mobile Device Support
    Bonjour
Apple Application Support (iTunes 9 or later)
Then download and reinstall itunes from itunes.com try putting your device into recovery mode again and restore.
    Hope this helps.
    Cheers.

iTunes and iPhoto won't recognize my iPhone 4S, or my wife's iPhone 4 when pluged into my MAC.  I am running OSX v10.5.8, and both iPhones have the latest version of iOS.  I tried a few of the other trouble shooting tips from the community, but nothing seems to work.
    Any suggestions?  Thanks.

  • ITunes won't detect my iPhone 4

I currently use a MacBook Pro with the 12.0.1 version of iTunes, however I also have an iPhone 4 and recently got an iPhone 5. In order to backup my iPhone 4 and put it onto the 5 i need to be able to sync, but iTunes won't detect my device (iPhone 4). I have completely uninstall iTunes so that I can install an older version that is compatible with my iPhone 4.
So my question is, what is the latest version of iTunes available that is compatible with the iPhone 4 software of 7.1?
    All help is appreciated, thanks.

Hey guys, same problem here...usb driver missing specified file, but don't know what the file may be. I have two drivers for Apple USB driver one being from 07/2010, and the other 09/2010 niether work with iTunes 10.1. I finally got so frustrated that I called ATT support, but to no avail. I also tried uninstalling, and going oldversion.com for a previous version of iTunes, to no avail. I keep seeing the new hardware has been, but the specified file not found. This would start everytime I hooked the iphone to pc. I finally just set my pc back to old condition using a backup on slave drive...issues with iphone getting worse, guess they want you to fork out the money for iphone 4...think i'll switch to ANDROID!

  • MacBook and iTunes won't detect my iPhone 3G

I have the iPhone 3G and it is synced to my PC with windows 7. I just bought a MacBook and want to sync my phone to my MacBook without losing all my contacts and everything on my iPhone, because I plan on selling my PC. The problem is, when I plug my iPhone into my new MacBook the computer and iTunes does not detect my iPhone at all. When I plug it in to the USB port, it charges my phone but it does not detect it on the computer or in the iTunes device list. Yet when I plug my iPod nano into the new MacBook the computer and iTunes detected it immediately. Help! How can I get my MacBook to detect my iPhone so I can use it with my new Mac and not my old pc!?
    Thank you!

  • Itunes won't detect my iphone, can't sync or back up my phone

After I have upgraded my itunes, it would no longer detect my iphone4S, so i took it to the apple store to test it and it worked.. but only not with my itunes at home. The staff recommended me to reinstall itunes, i did that but it's still not working.. If i uninstall itunes a pop up box will ask me if I want to completely delete itunes but if i select that, will i lose everything on my iphone?

  • How do I get out of an iphone restoration loop, itunes keeps saying it has detected an iphone in restore mode and that it must check for software updates and reinstall the ios, it completes this process and then says: detected iphone in restore mode etc.,

Background: my iphone 3gs was running wonderfully - no issues at all, as normal.
I let the power run down to critical and got the empty battery screen - plugged it in and when it had enuf juice it displayed the cord-to-itunes-of-death-screen...
I had just backed up the previous to icloud so no worries... I just plugged in and thought ok this will just take a second...it completed the restore then said with a glazed amnesic font "Itunes has detected an iPhone in recovery mode, and has never seen or restored this iphone ever before, since this is a stranger iphone, itunes does not trust it and must call the ipolice to check for contraban in its orifices and cavities, you must restore"... kidding of course... but
OMG at home I did the whole restore process no less than 20 times while optimizing and accounting for different variables each time (restoring on a new system with a fresh OS, trying to restore and a mac, restoring then restarting empty cache, restart unistall itunes then restore restart restore, installing an older version of Itunes and restoring. going back to Vista and restoring), and every single time it would complete the check, the update/check, the ios reinstall, and then whatever else and say "complete"... and then no icon menu would appear for the device in itunes so unplug the phone and replug and get the whole "Itunes must render restore aid" message. SO I went to the genuis bar at my local iBoutique thrice - each time the bewildered but very courteous and knowledgable genuis wanted to keep trying ... since I had been on this treadmill for about two weeks I decided each time to respect my fellow appletonians and not suck up genius time... but I really want my old 3gs back... why - I like that it amazes the youth who occaisonal are puzzled by seeing something apple that they don't recognize and in wonder and amazement at its age they learn that even though its no longer invited to iOS family gatherings that it still can call home and ask why Apple waited so long when it was a kid to give it copy-paste ability like all the other kids, then ask for money for the shrink bill.. ... . . ..

Soooooooo.... You obviously need to restore the device
It seems that you have tried several options to restore it. What I would do is leave it plugged it and hold down the Home button AND the Power button together till you see the white apple appears. Then let go of the Power button but continue to hold the home button. You should get the message in iTunes again saying that the iPhone needs to be restored. Hit OK then RESTORE.
    Hope this helps!!

  • ITunes 10.5 will not detect my iPhone 4S

I have a 2011 Macbook Pro 15" with Lion running iTunes 10.5.3, which I believe is the newest version at the moment. I also have a white 16GB iPhone 4S running 5.0.1. Before, I was able to sync my phone without an issue, but now, iTunes will not even detect my iPhone. My phone starts to charge, so I know my iP
hone recognizes the computer and that the cord is working. I have looked at apple's troubleshooting tips but was unsuccessful. Does anyone have any idea how to resolve this issue and have iTunes find my iPhone?

  • IPhoto won't detect my iPhone 3GS

Hello guys, I am having trouble syncing my photos on my iPhone to my Mac through iPhoto. I already deleted all the pictures that were not taken with my phone, I have already opened up image capture which still doesn't detect my iPhone (but it does detect my Nikon camera), I have tried restarting my computer as well as my iPhone and I also tried restarting my iPhone while it was plugged in to my Mac. iTunes detects my phone and iPhoto even opens up once I plug my phone in but it still doesn't show up as a device. Does anyone have any possible solutions that doesn't involve restoring my phone? Please help!
    Thank you for your time.

Have you already confirmed your Mac as a trusted device?  Try this:
    Lauch iTunes.
    Connect the Phone/iPad
When it asks you to trust it, say yes.
    Now try again to import.

I have an Epson printer on a Wifi network. Windows 7 desktop is running the network, and my wife's HP Win 7 laptop prints to it just fine. My MacBook Pro running Yosemite won't detect it, and I do have the latest driver installed. I didn't have a problem when I had a Canon Pixma on the network, but when I replaced it with the Epson nothing seems to work. I go to add a printer to the queue and only the FAX function of the printer shows up - not the WS-4530 print function. Does anyone out there have any suggestions?  Please??? :-)

    Hi Kelly,
As someone who has to print from my Mac to a networked printer at home all the time, I can certainly understand how frustrating it must be to have that fail to perform as expected. Let's see if we can get you up and running.
I would suggest that you troubleshoot using the steps in this article -
