ITunes 9 and Windows 7: iTunes frequently locks up
Hi,
I just wanted to report that my iTunes frequently will freeze up when not playing. For example it could not be playing a certain song, and I press play, and the play button just freezes at the pushed in state. The only way I've solved this is by rebooting because just ending the process doesn't solve the problem.
7.3.2 is the last version of iTunes that was designed to work with Windows 2000. Nothing later than that supports 2000: iTunes 7.3.2 for Windows 2000
iTunes 9 requires:
Windows XP Service Pack 2 or later, 32-bit editions of Windows Vista, or 32-bit editions of Windows 7. 64-bit editions of Windows Vista or Windows 7 require the iTunes 9.0.2 64-bit installer

Constantly see the following error message from Adobe Flash Player Installer:
Error has been encountered. Close this window and try downloading again.
What in heck does that error message mean?
This message occurs most of the time when I try to update to the latest version of Adobe Flash Player.
It would be one thing if it was only occurring on Windows XP, but it shows up on Windows 7, Windows 8.0, and Windows 8.1 frequently.
Just for curiousity looked at the Windows 8.1 Event Viewer and NO error message shows up there.
Would be nice to:
(1) know what the error really is so that it can be reported to you to get it fixed once and for all.
(2) have Adobe Flash Installer NOT to delete itself every time that the installer is run.
(3) have an OFFLINE download installer to download and install Adobe Flash Player without the MacAfee installer.
(4) have Adobe UNCHECK that the Install MacAfee installer that you have to opt out of each time you do an Adobe Flash Player download. You should make it to OPT IN not OPT OUT! Don't need another program installed without my permission. This causes issues when I have to uninstall MacAfee on computers that others in my family use.
It seems to takes up to 20 times to download the Adobe installer over a period of many days or weeks to get it to install properly.
I have written software for over 36 years as a computer programmer and now Senior Software Developer. I have do installers on my own and have to figure out how to solve my own issues on the installers to get them fixed.
This issue doesn't seem to be tied to any particular version of Windows... Same issue occurs on Windows XP, Windows 7, Windows 8.0, and Windows 8.1! The ONLY commonality seems to be Adobe Flash Player.
Certainly Adobe should be smart enough to fix this issue once and for all.
If the issue is that there is a network congestion error that it cannot download the installer, please say so and please please please DO NOT delete the downloaded installer every time that it is run on a PC.
I'd like to fix the security issues with the Adobe Flash Player AS SOON as there is a patch for it. I don't like having security issues over a long period of time.
Please address this issue so that I can put this to bed and not have to keep sending you messages that once again the Adobe Flash Player Installer is yet again broken!

iTunes 11.0.1.12 and Windows 7 (32 bit, latest version). iTunes crashes frequently (Windows message : "iTunes has stopped working and will be closed"). I may be trying to search for an App. or book (or anything else), trying to access iTunes store, checking for updates to Apps., inputting my password, etc. etc. I have uninstalled iTunes several times, reinstalled several times, but the error persists. I tried the iTunes 10 suggested fix of running in safe mode, but iTunes again crashed when I was trying to create a new ID.

I have updated to a new windows 7 computer, and after transfering my itunes library via iphone, itunes has locked me out of the app section of my phone. I can not add or remove apps using itunes. Is there a way to fix this? I have authorized, deauthorized, restarted, rebooted, and reset both my computer and iphone. Anyone got any ideas?? Thank you!
The safest way to do this would be to copy your itunes library to an external drive. For the purposes of this excersize the new Laptop would be the external drive

Mac and Windows on same iTunes Library? NAS?
I moved my mac iTunes library to a NAS, hoping that all machines in the house (Mac and Windows) could access and update the library (but not at the same time because of file locking). So I moved the .itl and .xml files over to the NAS as well but some machines can only see parts of the library.
Is this not a supported configuration? How could I set up such a sharing library with update capability? Thanks in advance.You don't need any software installed on the windows PC. Just plug it into the Ethernet port on the router to the Ethernet port on the NIC card. If you want the Fios software installed go to activatemyfios.verizon.net and click configure another computer and enter your fios user name and password. If you are having connection problems go to verizon.com/connectionwizard and install that software.

ITunes and Windows 7 (or Vista) x64
Hey there,
the current state with syncing my iPod under Windows Vista x64 and Windows 7 (RC) x64 is horrible. iTunes locks itself up for several minutes, syncing large Music libraries takes hours - and might break halfway through the progress. It's a shame that I have to experience such lacky behaviour from Apple Products.
Having ordered an iPhone 3Gs, I wonder if I'll experience the same trouble with it.
Will Apple make it to provide a working sync solution for Windows 7 x64?
Windows 7 is no longer pre release, so it's time to take some action. You should've downloaded the RTM copy of Windows 7 x64 already, MobileDeviceDriver Team.

Error while opening iTunes CD driver. This could be caused by a corrupted iTunes file or a conflict with other older CD burning applications, either currently installed or previously installed and uninstalled incorrectly.
what typically works with the 2380s on 64-bit OSs (it hits XP too) is reinstalling the 64-bit version of the GEAR drivers that iTunes uses for burning and importing.

Computer says iPod is there, but iTunes and Windows won't recognize it
I've had a 60GB ipod photo for about 4 years and it has served me well. This morning the iPod froze in the middle of a song. I hit reset, and it came back blank - all the files were gone. When I got to work and hooked it up to my computer, iTunes and Windows can't recognize it, but I can find it in device manager - which means I couldn't do restore.
I hit reset a few more times, changed USB ports and, somewhat miraculously, the iPod came back, complete with all files. On the way home from work it happened again and I haven't been so lucky.
I forced it into disk mode and iTunes recognized it, but told me it was corrupt. I also received a computer sound card error - my sound card was busy, and an error stating that audio/video playback could be limited. I tried restore, but I received the unknown error. I'm using the latest version of iTunes and I'm all out of ideas.
Any suggestions or should I put this iPod to rest and save up to buy a new one?
ThanksThe most likely problem is that the hard drive in the iPod is becoming unreliable. It may be experiencing sticktion, which is friction that makes the spinning platter stick and the motor cannot get it spinning. The iPod is regularly spinning the hard drive up, to cache songs into memory, and then spinning it down, to save power. If the drive was not able to spin up when commanded (in the middle of a song), the iPod would seem to lock up. Later, bumping the iPod may make the hard drive spin again, so it seems to work again, at least for a while.
If this the the problem, the only way to fix it would be to replace the hard drive inside.
You might try reformatting the iPod using Windows, if you can get it to appear in a My Computer or Windows Explorer window. Use a full format instead of a quick format. If that process competes successfully, run iTunes and try using Restore again to install and initialize the iPod's software.
If formatting does not compete successfully, it may be time for that new iPod.
You can do some experimenting on the old iPod, if you're into such things. I have successfully installed a compact flash card (through an adapter), inside a 4th gen iPod as a replacement for the hard drive. It is only 4GB at the moment, but CF cards up to 16GB are getting relatively cheap, so I might get one of those and start using by old broken 4G iPod again, +now with shock-resistant energy-saving flash-based storage+. -
ITunes 11 Locks Up in Regularly - iTunes 11 needs a "tune up" and then reissues...soon
I have been having trouble with iTunes 11 locking up (i.e. "not responding". I have plenty of memory and etc. When "not responding" iTunes uses 25-30% of the processor time. From what I gather, I am not the only one having this problem. People with Windows Vista, 7 and 8 (even a few XPer's) have posted this issue in variou places. No one has posted anything resembling a solution. Anyone have any ideas?
I figured out the problem. I installed the Freecorder 8 program and did not realize that Safari and iTunes were calling this file: C:\Program Files\Common Files\Jaksta Technologies\Audio Capture\jaudcap.dll
After I renamed the Jaksta Technologies file directory to test my theory that this file was the problem, everything was fine and Safari and iTunes had no problems. Thanks to the help from Procmon.exe from Sysinternals (www.sysinternals.com) which gave me the clue to ask why was this file being called. -
ITunes and Windows 8 Home Sharing (Possible Fix)
If this fix has been posted elsewhere then I apologize, but I wanted to share what I stumbled on as a possible for for iTunes Home Sharing and Windows 8. I did a lot of port forwarding, both on my router and my Norton firewall, but nothing seemed to help. After a few minutes my Apple TV and iOS devices would stop seeing my iTunes library. The only way to fix it was to reboot the router.
On a whim I looked in my Device Manager and found under Network Adapters a device called Microsoft Kernel Debug Network Adapter. I disabled this, rebooted my computer, and have since no issues with Home Sharing. It's only been a few hours, but that is the longest I've gone since installing Windows 8. I'll look in the morning to see if it still works.
So give this method a try and see what happens. Hopefully it will fix your problems.Here are the three steps I took to get Home Sharing working successfully on Apple TV. This has worked for the better part of a week so hopefully it will work well for others.
In your software firewall create two new Inbound Rules. Open port 3689 (TCP) and port 5353 (UDP) to All Programs.
If your hard drive goes to sleep after a certain period, be sure to change to something greater than 30 min. (Control Panel -> Power Options -> Change Plan Settings -> Change Advanced Power Settings -> Hard disk -> Turn off hard disk after -> Setting)
On your Apple TV change when it goes to sleep. I changed mine to 10 hours.
This seems to keep the connection alive. On occassion it will look like it gets stuck loading, but just let it go. At some point it wil kick on. If you generates a connection error just try loading the media again and it should start. -

Using it on a tablet that had Win 7 (and it ran fine). Switched to Windows 8 when RTM came out (tablet certified for Windows 8). When I rented a couple of movies after about 10 minutes of watching the movie would play horribly slow and the sound would cut out. Restarting iTunes fixes it for about another 10 minutes.
Any word on iTunes and Windows 8? Apple has had enought time to test (with the dev and consumer previews being out for several months and RTM was at least a month ago) and deploy a version ready for Windows 8 at launch date.....revo1059 wrote:

Use same external drive for itunes in mac and windows?

I have a Macbook Air that has bootcamp and I use 99% of my time under Windows 7.
All of my music and movies are on an external hard drive and I have a problem using
it for iTunes under Windows and the Mac at the same time.
Is it possible to have both versions point to the same external drive?
I tried almost everything but it fails as the file paths are stored once and for all in
the iTunes library file.
When booting under OS/X and opening iTunes, it loads the .itl file and shows all music
but of course it doesn't see anything since the path under OS/X has nothing to do with
the one under Windows.
My iTunes lib was created under Windows and all files are stored in a variation of:
J:\Private\My Music\iTunes[Rock | Classical | Soundtracks]
Under OS/X of course the path is totally different:
/Volumes/DRIVE_J/Private/My Music/iTunes/[Rock | Classical | Soundtracks]
Now if I reimport everything in iTunes for OS/X it will change all the paths and then
Windows will not be able to fetch the files.
Isn't there a way to have relative paths so both the OS/X and Windows versions
of iTunes work flawlessly without caring at all about which OS is running?
This is driving me nuts.
I'm not talking about Sharing an iTunes library over a network. I want to share the
same physical folder between Windows and OS/X

When I try and start iTunes after trying to intall the 11.4 update on my Windows 7 laptop, it says to reinstall iTunes and "Windows Error Code 193" I tried ave the same failed response. Can someone help?

How to prevent iTunes for Windows from "Updating iTunes Library"?
My library is on a NAS and managed by iTunes on a Mac. I can connect from wife's Windows laptop using iTunes for Windows but every time I do, it Updates iTunes Library. Next time I log in from my Mac it Updates iTunes Library in return. It appears I'm experiencing "Update Wars" between the Mac and Windows versions of iTunes. I would like to allow my wife to stream iTunes songs to her new laptop but I don't want any updates from this source... prefer to manage the library from my Mac and not allow Windows to do any thing other than listen to existing playlists.

Under Edit > Preferences > Advanced make sure the media folder is correctly pointed at the media folder on the NAS. If not correct, close iTunes, wait a few moments, then open iTunes again.
Close iTunes on the PC. Do not open iTunes on the Mac.
Copy the library files, iTunes Library.itl, iTunes Library Extras.itdb, iTunes Library Genius.itdb, sentinel and the folder Album Artwork into an empty iTunes folder on the PC, for example C:\iTunes.
Click the icon to start iTunes and immediately press and hold down SHIFT. Keep holding until prompted to choose or create a library. Click choose and browse to the copied .itl file, e.g. C:\iTunes\iTunes Library.itl
The library should now work properly on the PC, however check the setting for the media folder. If needs be correct, close iTunes and reopen.
Open iTunes on the Mac. It will update again, but that should be last time.
