ITunes 9 crashes when opening, please help!

After updating to the latest release of iTunes 9, it attempts to update library and when about 95% complete, just crashes. Crashes at the same exact point every single time. I tried reinstalling iTunes with a fresh download and that did not help. I get no error messages, it just force crashes every single time I try to start it. I can't even access anything in iTunes. Can someone please help me shed some light on this? Thanks!

That sounds most likely to be either a library file problem or a content file problem.
There's advice on troubleshooting both those possibilities in the "User-specific troubleshooting" section of the following document:

  • NEED HELP ITUNES FREEZES WHEN OPENED PLEASE HELP

    hello all
whenever i open itunes on my macbook, the loading pinwheel comes up and doesn't go away until i quit itunes or turn off my computer. my itunes will 'freeze' whenever i open it and will not let me play songs or anything. please help me!

There are a lot of things that could cause this and your songs are rarely in jeopardy when the issue is iTunes so don't worry.
If you could give us your iTunes version number, and the OS version you currently have those would help narrow a little.
Did you install or change anything around the time that this started happening?
Also explain exactly what happens. does the itunes window open than hangs with pinwheel or does the application bounce like it's going to open then hang instead.
I would, even if just for good maintenance, repair permissions by going to your utilities folder opening Disc Utility selecting your HD from the left and clicking verify disc permissions. Also make a new user to test to see if iTunes opens there, if it works in a new user it's an issue with one of your user specific files, and there would be much less to sort through.
More info will help a lot in figuring out whats going on.

  • ITunes freezes when opening, please help

Whenever I try to open my iTunes it starts by "updating" my library, then it either freezes halfway through that or it freezes about 2 seconds later. I've tried to figure it out but nothing I try has been working. I've noticed that iTunes is trying to download a podcast right after but I don't know if that's the problem. I've tried to unsubscribe to the specific podcast but I can't get to it in time before it freezes. please help me

    Hi
I had the same and I feel that your library is corrupted. Don’t be afraid since I could repair the iTunes following the next steps:
    A) Recreate the library:
    Follow these steps:
    1. Quit iTunes.
    2. Locate your iTunes folder.
 For Mac OS X the iTunes folder is stored in one of the following locations:
    /Users/username/Music
 For Microsoft Windows XP and 2000 the iTunes folder is stored in
    \Documents and Settings\username\My Documents\My Music\
 For Microsoft Windows Vista the iTunes folder is stored in
    \Users\username\Music\
    3. Open your iTunes folder.
    4. Drag the iTunes Music Library.xml to the Desktop
    5. Drag the following file from your iTunes folder to the Trash:
     Microsoft Windows: "iTunes Library.itl"
    6. Open iTunes.
    7. From the File menu, choose Import.
    8. Navigate to the iTunes Music Library.xml file on the Desktop.
    9. Windows users: Click Open.
Moreover you should follow the next steps.
    1. Quit iTunes.
    2. Move the iTunes Library file located at C:\Documents and Settings\username\My Documents\My Music\iTunes to your desktop
    3. Open iTunes.
    4. From the File menu, choose Add Folder to Library.
Navigate to the folder where your music is located. Typically this is
    C:\Users\username\Music\iTunes\iTunes Music
In this way I could repair the iTunes 7.2. I apologize for my poor English and I hope to be of help for you.

  • PP CS6 crashes when opening - Please help!

When I attempt to open PP CS6 it displays the initial launch screen and then says "Adobe Premiere Pro has stopped working."  Before posting this question I tried:
    1) uninstalling and reinstalling PP CS6
    2) uninstalling and reinstalling Creative Cloud manager
    3) running in compatibllity mode
    4) launching PP CS6 while pressing shift and alt keys (to reset preferences)
    5) updating video drivers
My other Adobe apps launch and operate perfectly.  Any advice is appreciated!

What are the specs on your system?
If you're on Windows, please update the driver for your processor. That step has resolved a crash-on-launch for several customers.
Do you have any codec packs or third-party effects or transitions installed?
In the bottom left corner of the "Premiere Pro has stopped working" dialog, there should be a link that reads "View problem details." Please click that and paste just the top few lines here (see the example here: http://forums.adobe.com/thread/1261230?tstart=0)

  • Help, iTunes crashing when opening!

I'm helping out a friend who is haping some trouble with her newly upgraded iTunes. This is her summary of the problem.
"I'm on a Windows XP computer just so you know. When I tried opening iTunes, it said something about sending an error report. I did and a window popped up that said Solution found: contact Apple Computer to obtain the update, and there was a link on that page which lead me to this article. It sounded like it covered my problem, but I couldn't delete anything by QuickTime like it said to. When I tried it would say the following file does not exist or is not a valid uninstallation log file. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling iTunes and Quicktime, and I tried getting into Windows Explorer and getting into the files to delete QuickTime, but that wouldn't delete it either. I don't know why iTunes constantly has an error report pop up whenever I try to open it, and QuickTime won't delete. Could someone help me?"
I was trying to help her but everything I could think of was not working.
    Please help.

Now it quits when opening iMovie, when i try and run iWeb it says it cant find my web pages i have made and then quits, dashboard widgets dont load and then hang, even the help viewer crashes as soon as i open it. and to top it all off the paim rest area of my macbook is starting to stain.

  • TS1717 iTunes will not open- please help!

My iTunes will not open.  I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling, but the same message keeps showing up when I try to open iTunes.   The error reads "C\Windows\system32\dssenh.dll is either not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error.  Try installing the program again using the original installation media or contact your system administrator or the software vendor for support."
    Please Help!!!

Taken at face value, you're having trouble with one of the Windows OS dlls associated with Cryptographic Services.
I'd first try the fixit from the following Microsoft document. (One of the things it does is reregister your copy of the dssenh.dll file.)
You cannot install some updates or programs
... but if you still get the issue, I'd try an sfc /scannow as per the instructions in the following document:

  • Photoshop Elements continues to crash upon opening - please help

I continue to get the message that the program must close down two seconds after I open it.  I held down shift when I clicked on organizer and the management screen came up.  I repaired, I optimized and the program continues to show down after two seconds.  It will not give me enought time to click on preferences and change the back up option, which is a suggestion I read on another post.  I am desperate to get into elements.  Working on a thesis project and need to write captions for images and upload to website using Dreamweaver.  Please help me.  I have PLUS and it says I have 19.0 GB of online storage capacity left.  I don't understand why the program is suddenly refusing to stay open.

Hello.  I appreciate your message below.  The problem is I cannot use the Elements organizer at all.  As soon as I open it, three seconds later, a message pops up that says the program has encountered and error and must close, and then it closes, immediately.  The organizer was working perfect for approx two months until I used a corrupt font in Premier Elements 9 on a video title.  This corrupt font was one of Adobe's program fonts, I did not go import a font, I merely used the Adobe program font selections.  When I tried to apply the font change to my video clips, I was unable to finish on all of the clips, the font was behaving very strange, and the next day, I noticed my elements organizer crashed each time I open it.  I need an Adobe technical person with experience in these matters to tell me what needs to be done to make my elements organizer work again.  I tried to remove the program and reinstall it, and that did not work.  I followed all of your previous suggestions, and none of those worked.  As for the suggestion you give below, I can only open the program under edit since the organizer crashes immediately each time I open it.  When I open the editor and to go EDIT and PREFERENCES, I do not see any option about auto analyzer in any of these options, under Editor.  Also, since my organizer worked perfectly until the corrupt font issue happened, I doubt seriously if the crash issue is related to auto analyzer.  That was not causing a problem before the corrupt font issue occurred.  I paid a lot of money and bought four Adobe programs, Elements, Premier Elements 9, Flash and Dreamweaver, and I need the Elements Organizer to work and not crash each time I open it.  What do I need to do to accomplish this?  I have an enormous amount of photos and videos in that program at this point since I am completing a thesis project for my Master's Degree.  Who can tell me what needs to be done to fix this problem?  I downloaded the patch at the Adobe site weeks ago and it did not help.  Judy Moss

  • I finally know why my iTunes crash when open!

SInce last month, my iTunes crash everytime when open.
I asked the question at: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/6021712
Later, I found that turn off wifi make iTunes work fine.
Finally, today i know the true reason, because I use a global proxy by .pac file (for across the great wall)
If connect apple.com default with proxy cause iTunes crash.
If you have a similar problem, please refer to this.

  • Itunes won't open please help!!!!!!

Please help me I installed my itunes and quicktime, but the itunes wont open. I tried redownloading itunes and I even tried to install an older version of quicktime. It opened than but wouldn't work said that I needed to have the updated version. So I reinstalled the updated versions. And again it just gives me the hour glass symbol than nothing. I do not have norton and no other programs will interfer with it. Can someone please help me?

    Hey jimmymohawk,
What is the exact error message? Is it saying that Quicktime needs to updated?
This article: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93976 should help you get iTunes installed sucessfully. Quicktime will have to be uninstalled, you may have to use the part of the article "Clean up iTunes installer files on the computer," then iTunes can be repaired or reinstalled.

  • The iphoto and itunes will not open please help

on my Mac G5 the iphoto and itunes will not open can anyone help

Could be many things, we should start with this...
    "Try Disk Utility
    1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
    2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu at the top of the screen. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.
    3. Click the First Aid tab.
    4. Select your Mac OS X volume.
    5. Click Repair. Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106214
Then try a Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.
(Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.)
Then, hold the Option key down when trying to open iPhoto, does it ask where it's Library is? Or what exactly happens?

  • Itunes crash when opening the store, windows xp, error in "***.dll"

    Hi,
every time, when I select in iTunes 11.1.5.5, windows XP (32 Bit) the store's start page (menu store/start page), it crashes.
All information I can get from windows after that, is that itunes crashed in w.t.f.dll. (sorry , this board does not allow to type the dll's name without points between the characters)
I already tried to completely uninstall all apple software and reinstall it after a windows restart, following exactly the steps
    under http://support.apple.com/kb/TS5376
Unfortunately the crash still appears as before.
Has someone found a fix or a workaround?
    Best regards

As I've just posted in Voo-Doo's thread that isn't an error message I've seen myself.
For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down page in case one of them applies.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there is backup and recovery advice elsewhere in the user tip.

  • My Itunes will not open, please help

I am running version 10.7.0.21 - since upgrade itunes will not open.  I have visited the support site and done many things to get this working - taken hours of my time I do not have, including setting up a new user and same result.
My PC is running Windows 7.  I need my itunes as I have 4 ipods and 3 iphones - I need to back up a phone as I have just upgraded,
One error I seem to have caught is as follows:
    Problem Event Name     BEX
    Application     itunes.exe
    Version     10.7.0.21
    timestamp     504d85d9
    Fault Module Name Quicktime.qts_unloaded
    Fault Module Version     0.0.0.0.
If someone has some suggestions, it would be much appreciated.

You're posting in the wrong area. This is the Mac OS X Lion area.
    Post in the iTunes area.

  • Itunes crashing when opened since latest update with windows 7

About a week and a half ago Itunes said I needed to update. I did that and ever since then it has been crashing whenever I try and open it. Is there a fix or anything? I'm not finding much about it and it would let me contact apple support unless I pay $20. I'm lost. I've trying running as admin, restarting, repairing. I have no reinstalled and would like to avoid that because I'll have to go through all my music again and readd it and also uncheck and check all the boxes for syncing to ipod since I don't want everything to do that.

Another idea has come to mind...
Triple click anywhere in the line below to select it and press Ctrl+C to copy it.
    cmd /k netsh winsock reset
Press the WinLogoKey+R to open the run dialog, then Ctrl+V to paste, then press enter/return.
You should get something similar to this:
    Reboot the computer. Any change?
Ah, we've posted at the same time. When Show iTunes in the Cloud Purchases is enabled, and you are signed into your account, iTunes checks the store for your purchase history and attempts to reconcile that with the content of the library. Any purchase that isn't your library will be displayed with a cloud symbol and you can stream or download the item. With it disabled there is nothing to do. Please try the suggestion above and see if it has any impact on whether you can successfully enable the iCloud items.
