ITunes 9 Freezes Importing Songs

Since upgrading to iTunes 9 on Snow Leopard, it keeps freezing when trying to import MP3 song files. I double click the song file in the Finder which then tries to import and play it in iTunes. I can usually get one or two to work and then iTunes will hang with a spinning beach ball. The problem is that whatever is hanging, hangs the whole system. Everything is hung and I cannot force quit the application as none of the menus work and the dock is unresponsive. If I leave it sit for a few minutes, the spinning beach ball will eventually freeze as well and stop spinning. This is a hard freeze and the only option is to power off and on. iTunes is the only application running when this happens.
I have been able to add multiple files using the "Automatically Add to iTunes" folder so I'm not sure if this is really an iTunes issue or something in the Finder. Either way, something is very wrong when powering on and off is the only way to regain control of the computer. I was hoping that Snow Leopard would be the answer to always being able to regain control of rogue apps through a force quit but that doesn't seem to be the case.
Anyone have any ideas?

had same problem with itunes 9 and some dj sets i downloaded.the problem seemed to be that the tracks did not have artist or album id tags, just song names.i solved the problem by deselecting the "auto organize" option in the advanced preferences panel.i think the problem was that itunes didn't know where to find the tracks, since they weren't being put into artist or album folders.once i deselected the auto-organize,i was able to add the songs to library and go back and give the artist tags so they could be properly sorted and recognized into albums that itunes could recognize.the spinning beach ball was driving me crazy too.hopefully that works for you as well.

With using any version of iTunes, whenever I import songs into my library using the "add to library" function, iTunes adds those songs in songs' alphabetical order. This is pretty annoying since it does not preserve the logical track number or even the album sort order (for example when adding 2 albums stored in a unique folder). Anyone has any ideas ? hi i had the same problem today when i updated my itunes to latest version. however, i have just found my songs in the 'itunes media' folder. this was accessed through 'my music'  then keep clicking through until you find itunes media and all my library songs were in there and i then just added these files to my library and all were restored however, i have lost all my playlists but at least my 700 songs are back. very dissapointed with apple that they have let this happen with their latest update, the previous version was miles better than this one . hope you find them. stevo

  • How do I trick iTunes into thinking imported songs are purchased?

MOST of my library is imported, and I really bugs me when when I can't listen to it in the store, only in my library. So I was wondering if there was any way to trick iTunes into think it is.
I am running ios 7.1.1 on an iPod 5 16gb.

Subscribe to iTunes Match.  Every song in your library will be either matched or uploaded.  Then you will be able to listen to all your music from the Cloud.

Have you tried using "Disk Utility" to repair your disk permissions? You may want to contact AppleCare for assistance on this one, sounds like it may be something else then just iTunes.

  • HELP? Itunes won't import songs without official titles!?!

This is so strange, but hopefully someone out there will have a suggestion. It makes absolutely no sense to me.
I have a pc that I recently uploaded a lot of music to from two different ipods (using ephpod). All of the songs are 'there', i.e. they are present in the same folder as the one itunes is already using to import from, but after spending hours examining the problem, it seems to be differentially only importing songs that have full information associated with them. I.e. both the songs that it is importing and not-importing are both Mpeg layer 3 audio files (mp3), they are also both full quality files (i.e. they are not links of 2kb, but 3 mb or so), the only difference is that the ones it IS actually importing have 'full details' listed below them (i.e. artist and album title in grey below the song title) all of the other songs merely have the track number (i.e. 01, 02, etc). THe problem is not that it is songs uploaded from two different ipods, as none of the songs from one of the ipods and 3/4 of those from the other won't play (also they won't play in windows media player or even open in the finder...?)
I'm pretty sure this is the problem, as after going through the tons of artists different folders the only ones it will import are those with the previously mentioned 'full data' and not those that just have the track numbers- so maybe the question is whether there is a way to disarm itunes 'song title' discriminatory policy, or perhaps a program that will enable me to add artist info to the songs, or .......a better suggestion?

Hey I got it working. Here's what I did that finally worked.
    1. Set Mp3tag v2.46a to remove all tags when pressing the "remove tag" button.
    2. Loaded all MP3's in Mp3tag. (they all had various fields filled and ID3 versions).
    3. Pressed "Remove tags" button. This cleared all tags.
    4. Pressed the Undo button. This replaced all tags.
After doing this, all the MP3's loaded into iTunes.
And I got to keep my meticulous tags.
So I guess whatever bug in the ID3 tags was cleared out when Mp3tag cleared/uncleared the tags.
I wish we could figure out exactly what the problem is though.
I spent a few hours cleared certain fields, checking ID3 version numbers against each other, etc. and I still don't know what iTunes is having problem with.
    Thanks for the tip, ed!

  • Share/Send Song to iTunes no longer imports song to iTunes

Background: For a year now, i've used GB (3.0.5) to rip my vinyl, adjust tracks, etc and import tracks into iTunes (8.0.2). Never had a problem. Click Share/Send Song to iTunes, mix down starts, iTunes pops up and starts playing the new track~ Until...
Recently: i got a new external HD for xmas and this week i moved my iTunes Library over to it to make some room. Well, after finally getting rid of all my !-marks and finding my album artwork again- iTunes is running fine.
Now: 10 hours ago I ripped a new record in GB, split my tracks, etc and went to Share/Send Song to iTunes. Mix down starts, iTunes popped up but doesn't start playing the track!!!!!
I've been around the world trying to set a Preference here, update a Library there, googled every combination of this tale i could think of, searched the Support threads, and Nuthin.
This may be an iTunes problem. I may have messed up my Library. Will totally understand if i need to take my question to the iTunes section.
Just wondering how i can tell GB where to export the song so that it goes to my current iTunes library> Please Help!?

  • How do I stop iTunes from automatically importing songs not from a CD?

    Hey,
I downloaded a few songs from my e-mail that I received from a band and as soon as it finished, it automatically imported it to iTunes. I didn't want it to do that and it did it with every track. How do I stop it from doing that?

  • Is there a way to import CDs into iTunes 11 without importing songs that are already in my library?

Prior versions of iTunes would ask whether I wanted to import duplicate songs when I inserted a CD, but this feature seems to have gone away in iTunes 11.  (Though if this feature does exist and can be enabled, that would be the ideal solution.)  Importing the entire CD and then searching and deleting duplicates is less than optimal, as I have a massive music library and a lot of CDs to import, many with duplicates.  Thanks in advance!

    No. Its not possible.
Alternatively, create another user account in your computer. Install iTunes in that account with the library you wish to sync.

  • Itunes playback skips imported songs

Recently I've been importing loads of my old cds to itunes, but when playing back on itunes, the song finishes then suddenly skips back and plays the last 20 seconds again before abruptly ending. This is a new problem, I've had my macbook pro for a couple or years, been updating itunes regularly etc.. and when importing cds has always been fine up until now. Any idea why?

Problem was with iTunes libary (xml) file and not Firefox. Once I rebuilt my library from scratch, iTunes no longer skipped.

  • ITunes will not Import Songs

So, I'm on my cousin's Windows laptop, and he wants me to put the songs back onto his computer from his iPod. However, not being very technical, he did not realize that the songs were still on his Hard Drive.
So I found the songs on the HDD, and then in iTunes 7 I went to File>Add to Folder to Library, then I told it to add the folder to iTunes. It appeared to be registering (going through all the songs really fast, like sensing em, you know).
Anyways, sure enough, they did not show up in iTunes. So, I went and tried to add one of the subfolders to iTunes. That did not work either.
I am wondering what should I do? Should I add the songs from his iPod back onto another place on his Hard Drive and just try to import those songs? Or do I not have to bother and I'm just missing one little thing to get the current songs into iTunes?
Thanks for the help! I appreciate it!

Well, I just imported the songs from the iPod back onto the computer and added those to the library. For whatever reason, it worked!

  • ITunes does not import songs from CD

When I tried to import mp3 formatted songs into itunes, i get the following message: +An error occurred while trying to import the file "Track 1." The current encoder settings for bit rate and sample rate are not valid for this file.+ This has never happened before. How do I fix this?

I just connected a new external cd/dvd drive and am having the same problem. Is your player working now, and if so what did you do to resolve the problem?
    Thanks!

  • ITunes keeps freezing during songs

My itunes just keeps freezing every few seconds, during songs.
Looked for solutions on forums, nothing helped, saw somene suggesting to format the macbook pro, so i did it and it's problem presists.
This all started when I downloaded the new itunes version (11) by the way.
    help would be appreciated

    Hi Kengc2,
I'm having the same problem as you.
    Running
    OS: Win 8 64bit
    Ram: 8GB
    Intel Core i7 - 2600k @ 3.5GHz
Must be something in Windows 8, as I did not have any problems with Win 7.
Having said that my itunes foldered is stored on my NAS so not sure is the slow network speed is causing the issue.
Interested to know whether windows makes a hot fix or whethers apple are secretly trying to get more Apple customers

  • My itunes will not import songs from a cd. When i put the cd in usually itunes recognizes it and starts importing them but now it doesn't do anything. How can i get it to import cds again?!

    please help

See if it will import a CD using Windows Media Player.
That will tell us if it is a system problem with the whole PC, or just a problem with itunes.

  • Problem..iTunes duplicates my imported songs

I've tried to import three different albums and iTunes is duplicating them on import. It is showing the dulipcates in iTunes and when I "show in Finder", there are indeed two mp3 files there.
Does anyone know why this is happening?
    Thanks

if you are importing an album that has a playlist file in the same folder, it imports the mp3s and then it imports all the mp3s listed in the playlist. Its stupid, I know. You have to make sure you delete any playlists in the folder before importing it.
