ITunes 9 freezing/hanging

It appears that alot of people, myself included, are having issues with iTunes 9 hanging (see mac forums)
I am about ready to toss my laptop out of frustration. Have spent the best part of a day restarting iTunes once it has frozen,restarting my computer, searching for a fix and not being able to do anything with my iTunes at all. If I am lucky I can get it to sync with the Apple TV but it then loses again.
I hope they get a fix happening soon.
My problems are only on my laptop which I use as my main computer with all of my iTunes etc on. 2 PC's I have updated appear to have no issues at all, BUT they have none of my media on them.
Anyone had any joy finding a solution that does not involve several hours of pain?

It has been a while since I logged onto iTunes (couple of weeks). I got on 9/20, iTunes completely froze - no response. It does not seem to matter if my iPOD is connected, nor if the Internet is connected, it is the same behavior. It is like the executable launches the program, but that is it. I went to the control panel, used the repair utilities, didn't work. I uninstalled, and reinstalled the latest version iTunes 9 - resulted in the same behavior. I have defraged my machine, deleted all temp files and cookies, performed fully system restore to the old version and started over, tried everything with the exception to fdisk. I am pretty computer literate, and this is really causing me to worry. Any insight will be helpful!

ITunes freeze/hang help

When I launch iTunes it opens fine and it even plays a song when I double click it but as soon as I attempt to perform another task like Get Info or go to my Preferences iTunes freezes and nothing works. I have to launch task Manager and End Task for it to shut down. Then when I relaunch iTunes everything seems to work fine.
This is happening on a regular basis and it seems to only happen after I initially boot my computer. As long as the computer stays on after that I don't have anymore problems until I shut down and boot up the next day. I have the latest version of iTunes 10.4.1. 64-bit. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

sorry to hear that.
Did you try a PRAM reset (hold P-R-Option-Command right after pressing the power button)? It may help in case your Superdrive isn't recognized by the mac, thus letting you boot from the Install DVD.
Or, try a SMC reset (power down, pull mains plug, wait 15 secs, plug back in, power up again) before booting from the Superdrive.
My best bet is doing an archive-and-install of the system, then applying all the necessary updates from the Apple menu, as you already were attempting to. With a little luck, your apps, reg files and documents as well as the settings may still be there.
Also, getting yourself an external HD for safety backups is a MUST. Oh yes, don't forget Alsoft's DiskWarrior which can be really handy if nothing else works.

My iTunes freeze (hang) when any webradio stream drop out for any reason; e.g. when ISP renews the IP, the radio station has limited the stream duration (as some do) per connection or wireless is cut off e.g. by closing the lid of the MacBook.
I've to force Quit then iTunes. If I wait (up to an hour for testing) no hung or crash report get generated, iTunes still stay unresponsive.
System: MacBook Pro 2011
OS: OS X 10.6.8 (Snow Leopard)
iTunes version: 10.4.1 (10)
iTunes 3rd Party add-on's: None
Any ideas out there?

I will commiserate. I have this same issue. In some cases, the stream will stop and restart after 15-30 seconds; repeat. In other cases, the stream will stop, and iTunes will switch to the last radio station in that playlist. Then that station will play for a few minutes, and stop, and sometimes restart. But usually iTunes will hang (spinning beach ball) and must be force-quit.

ITunes 10.2.1.1 (64 bit) freezes/hangs sometimes after playing videos

On a fresh install of Windows 7 64 bit on Basecamp, using iTunes 64 bit. iTunes will sometimes just hang when a video or video podcast finishes. I have to kill iTunes and restart it. There is a thread about this at:

ITunes Freezes when I plug in my Ipad

I'm on a Windows 7 PC, and have installed the latest Version of Itunes 10.2.2.12.
I have had the Ipad 2 for exactly 5 days, and have successfully synced the thing a total of 3 times... Only right after I intially install (Or reinstall) Itunes. Everytime I try to connect the Ipad now, one of 3 things happens.
1. Itunes freezes completley, and never starts responding again.
2. Itunes freezes momentarily, but never shows that the Ipad is connected.
3. Itunes Doesn't do anything... just dosn't realize there is an Ipad connected.
I've reinstalled a total of 3 times, and only then am I able to sync... and only once.
Now the PC actually recognizes that I have an Ipad linked, as it shows the icon, and says that my ipod is connected in the system tray

I have experienced the same issue.
I see the following behavior:
hangs sometimes when plugging in ipad. ipad does not seem to recognize synching. unplugging ipad in this situation unfreezes itunes.
re-plugging in ipad sometimes works while itunes is up. Most always works if itunes is shutdown before plugging in ipad.
I have re-installed itunes from scratch several times. I believe that this has improved the situation temporarily but I generally see it return eventually.

Why does iTunes freeze when I try to burn cds?

Hi, when I try to burn cds, iTunes freezes. I have a Sony CD-RW CRX175A and I have been assured by Sony that I'm running the latest firmware.
I was able to burn cds no problem two weeks ago. Then I removed an external hard drive and then plugged it back in later. To do this, I clicked an icon in the toolbar entitled "Safely Remove Hardware" and I'm wondering if I "removed" my cd burner or something. This is the only thing I can think of.
Regardless of what I wrote above, can anyone help me? I teach dance and not being able to burn cds in iTunes is making life difficult. THANK YOU!!!

Please help me if you can. Thankfully I can still burn cds no problem with Windows Media Player. For some reason iTunes just can't make it happen. I have tried reinstalling iTunes and I know I have the latest drivers for my cd burner. Any suggestions?

ITunes freezes on Sign In to iTunes Store - Windows 7 64 bit

In the last 48 hours I have not been able to use my iTunes software as it hangs immediately after launching.
I have tried a number of options to rectify the problem including Repairing the iTunes installation, Uninstalling/Reinstalling the program and System Restore to name a few. After some hours of searching I have established (after reading support.apple.com/kb/ts1717) that when I remove the Roaming Preference Files I am able to run iTunes however at this point it no longer automatically signs into the iTunes store. The problem arises as soon as I enter my user id and password the program becomes unresponsive.
I would appreciate any thoughts or suggestions anyone could provide to help rectify the problem.

Latest version of iTunes (10.5.2.11) and iCloud 1.0.2.17 installed. Only installed iCloud on the latest update.
iTunes frequently froze, so I deleted my roaming profile (having read of others having success by doing this).
iTunes now launches fine, downloads subscribed podcasts etc, I can access the iTunes store, but as soon as I try to log in using my apple id then itunes freezes and must be closed using task manager.
I'm using Windows 7 32bit.
I just tried launching the iCloud control panel and it froze up too. Uninstalling iCloud didn't seem to fix the problem.
I can buy apps etc through my ipad and iphone, so maybe I can use itunes without logging into the store, but frankly I wish I could ditch itunes as the interface for my iphone/ipad.

I've searched the forums- I think my problem is unique.
Basically, the iTunes installer completely hangs my PC. I need to do a hard reset every time.
I've followed all the steps on Apple's troubleshooting guide to make sure EVERY trace of all things Apple has been removed first.
The iTunes installer hangs at the 'registering iTunes automation server' stage. My PC actually has to be reset via the power button.
This is an amazing step backwards. My initial problem was the previous version of iTunes hanging every time I even tried to open it (even in safe mode...!)- this had NEVER happened before, it was completely bizzare. So I'm trying the latest version of iTunes. But one thing at a time- I just need to get iTunes installing, first!
The only PC protection-type software I'm running is Microsoft Security Essentials. Real-time protection is off.
Can anyone help at all?

It's home-build, has been for two-plus years. Overclocked, sure, but iTunes has never been a problem, and no other programs show any sign of even a CTD, let alone a complete PC freeze. Nevertheless, I've tried iTunes with all BIOS settings on safe, and it still crashed.

I have NO idea if this is relevant, but all these problems started after I got a replacement iPhone 3GS under warranty. I think the replacement is buggy- it constantly crashes. It never restored properly, crashing, I assume, during the restore. Then iTunes froze. Then the installer froze. Wah!
Is this of any help? Oh, and it's not hardware related, I don't think- I tried this HDD in another PC, same problem.

ITunes freezes when I connect my iPad2

I recently bought an iPad2 but have not been able to sync it with iTunes yet, because every time I connect the iPad, iTunes freezes and becomes unresponsive.
I use a Sony Vaio laptop with Windows 7 64-bit Professional, and the latest version of iTunes. When I first connected my iPad, Windows recognized it as a new device and installed it as a "hard drive"...but iTunes doesn't recognize it. In Task Manager, iTunes shows up with a "not responding" msg next to it.
And while connected, the iPad doesn't show any indicator of sync in progress (and doesn't even charge). Once I disconnect the iPad, iTunes starts responding again...but of course, no sync has been done. Even if I just leave it for a long time (tried up to 30 mins), the situation doesn't change.
So far, I've tried the following to troubleshoot:
1. Connected the iPad to different machines - I tried both a Macbook Pro and another Sony Vaio laptop running Windows 7. On both of them, it syncs with iTunes just fine. So that rules out a problem with the iPad itself.
2. Uninstalled and reinstalled iTunes completely, including all the folders created under AppData, My Music folder, etc. Also removed and reinstalled all other components such as Bonjour, Quicktime, Apple Software Updater, Apple Mobile Service, etc. But this didn't help.
3. Uninstalled the iPad from the Device Manager, and reconnected it. This time Windows didn't try to create it as a separate hard drive, but iTunes still behaved the same - hangs when the iPad is connected, and doesn't sync/charge.
Does anyone have further ideas on what I can try to get iTunes to sync with my iPad?

I'm having the same exact issue, I have also tried everything. Apple says its a hardware problem with the iPad, but Im out of the country and cant simply go switch it out. Plus I dont think thats it at all....
Any advice? Everything has been restarted, different USBs, Cords, Updated, Uninstalled iTunes, Downloaded new iTunes...etc...

Itunes freezes when I connect my ipod....possible corrupt file?

I reinstalled itunes to the latest version.
And I'm still having the same problem: My itunes freezes whenever I connect my ipod. And when i disconnect it, it unfreezes and it shows "My Ipod" in itunes for like a second then goes away.
Now, when I reinstalled again, i noticed a message saying that Windows is missing components required to fully install Itunes (itunes installed anyway) or something like that. Now, i connected it to my parents' pc and it works fine.
Is there something wrong with my pc? Is there a different program where i can transfer my music to my ipod? (I am using Windows XP btw)
Also is there a way to move all the songs on my ipod to an external hard drive?

Similar problem here:
When I'm playing songs with iTunes and connecting my 3G 20GB iPod, my computer will hang up completely - screen goes dark and I have to reset my PC.
However, when my iTunes is "idle", i.e. not playing a song or doing anything else, connecting and syncing the iPod will work just fine.
I'm using the newest (6.x) Version of iTunes on WinXP SP2 with a 3G iPod 20GB.

ITunes Freezes when Burning a Mix

Every time that I attempt to burn a mix CD, using songs that I had previous to using iTunes which are in .mp3 format and some of the music that I have purchased through the store (.m4p) or at a brick-and-mortar store (.m4a) iTunes freezes up and I have to ctrl-alt-delete to shut it down. Please don't tell me that I'm not able to burn CDs featuring a mix of songs that I have purchased and songs I previously owned. I have paid a lot of money to Apple through the iTunes store and I should be allowed to make a compilation if I choose to. Is anyone else experiencing this problem? Its not my burner or Windows because I burned the new Shins' CD (purchased on iTunes) with no problem.

I'm glad to see that it isn't just me who has problems JUST with the playlists with the downloaded/purchased tracks on it.
I have been to my PC company and they installed the latest firmware for my motherboard, so I have nothing more to do there.
I have tried everything. I can only assume this is an Itunes 6.0 problem as everything was ok for me until I downloaded that update.

IPod causing iTunes freeze

Hi guys,
hope someone can help as this has had me flummoxed for a good few hours and nothing as of yet I have come across has helped me in fixing my iPod (5th Gen).
Basically when attempting to use iTunes (with my iPod connected), iTunes freezes and forces itself to shutdown, I have tried to remedy this by resetting the iPod (unable to enter diagnostic mode or disk mode), reinstalled iTunes, used a different computer to see if it was my computer and god knows what else to get it working again but as of yet no luck, without accessing iTunes I can't restore original factory settings to the iPod either (which is now the aim).
Any suggestions on what I can do or how to remedy the situation?

Pretty much the same story here. I don't know if this is related to the latest version of iTunes, which I recently updated? Is there a bug?
When I connect the iPod (5th generation video), I get "Updating <ipod name>..." screen, and it hangs. IPod says to not disconnect. It never recovers.
I've tried:
-Removing and reinstalling iTunes
-Checking off the setting to NOT automatically synch ipods and iphones
-Turning off my anti-virus
-Reading through all the support articles, which suggest to reset the iPod to factory settings...
The kicker is that I can't do a factory reset of the iPod or update the firmware without connecting to iTunes, of course.
I guess it's hopeless. Time to throw the iPod out??? Seriously, what to do?

ITunes freezes mid-burn

Until recently my iTunes has been able to burn CDs without any problems. However, now whenever I attempt to burn something iTunes freezes and stops responding as soon as it finishes checking the playlist. I've been able to burn CDs using other programs and everything else works perfectly fine. The CDs are HP brand, though I don't think that's the problem.

A new development if you will. I've found that iTunes WILL burn CDs, just not all of them. The playlist I've been trying to burn causes it to freeze, but an older one still burns fine. So, it'd seem that the problem is with one of my songs, but I'm not getting any error message so I don't know what the problem is. Like I said, I've yet to burn this list so it wouldn't be the seven time limit. All the songs are authorized and play in iTunes and the total length is only 1 hour.

My system has all of the updates and drivers. The problem stated when I upgraded iTunes.
Are you suggesting that because of that, I need to upgrade to Windows XP?
Many people are having the same problem as I, and they already have Windows XP....so I doubt that is the problem.
My question is:
Where can I find an older revision of iTunes? At least then we could use our burners until apple fixes this bug, and then upgrade.

ITunes freezes when I click burn disc

I've been a fan of iTunes since it came out, however, it's pretty worthless if I can't play my music in my car. I haven't been able to burn CDs for quite a while now. I can't pinpoint exactly when it stopped burning CDs but someone suggested that it was because of something in Windows Service Pack 2. I don't know. When I click burn disc, iTunes immediately freezes and I have to close it in the task manager. Also, if I go to edit preferences, and click on the burning tab, iTunes freezes, same situation. If anyone has any ideas how to remedy the problem, would you please let me know. I've already done two clean reinstalls to no avail.

drat. i was hoping that you had one of the Dell "two minute" hangs, which often seemed to be cleared up by heading to Dell to stock up on recent updates.
how about the rest of your CD diagnostics? have you followed up on any other recommendations made about checking your chipset or video driver or so forth?
