ITunes 9 / MP3 IDv2.4 Year / Release date tag problems

Hi,
I keep all my CD's as FLAC on a Linux workstation; I want to keep a copy in MP3 format in iTunes. I've got around 5000 tracks; on Linux the tag looks as follows:
[andrewtaylor@precision mp3]$ eyeD3 Blur/1991/Leisure/01\ -\ She\'s\ So\ High.mp3
01 - She's So High.mp3 [ 5.45 MB ]
Time: 04:44 MPEG1, Layer III [ ~160 kb/s @ 44100 Hz - Joint stereo ]
ID3 v2.4:
title: She's So High artist: Blur
album: Leisure year: 1991
track: 1 genre: Alternative (id 20)
You can see that the year is 1991. I've copied this to my Mac and when I import it to itunes (and this is the same for all 5000 tracks) the year is missing, but the release date is set to 1/12/1991.
The 'show info' option of Finder shows no year information and no release date information.
If I go back to Linux and remove the IDv2 tag and keep only the IDv1 tag; both the Finder and iTunes is able to see the year field and use it properly.
Anyone got any ideas? I understand that if IDv2 tags are present, iTunes will ignore the IDv1 tag; however, it must be using the year in some capacity to set the release date.
Many thanks
Andrew

I've heard that something about iTunes and v2.4 just don't match up, iTunes along with many other music programs have problems with v2.4. I'd sugest converting everything to v2.3

  • Will releasing my app in iTunes connect change the release date?

    Hi there,
I have an unusual situation.  We submitted version .9 of our app to the appstore, and it was approved.  Even though the game is not done, we did this because we wanted a version that we could submit to the Indiecade festival (deadline today!), and we wanted to be able to send them a promocode rather than have to go through all of the hoops of UDID and all that.
We have a release date set for far in the future, and we also have the game set to 'pending developer release'.
Even though the game was approved and is ready for us to 'release' to the store, it wont yet spit out promocodes for us yet, because it is not 'live'.  I want it to go live, but not actually be available on the store.  I think this will work, I'm just concerned that if we push that button, it will change our release date and actually make the game available on the app store.
Can anyone confirm that this is NOT what will happen?  I hope I'm making my situation clear.  Thanks very much.
    Chris

I would suggest you contact the iTunes Store via your iTunes Connect account and ask them. That's the way you'll get definitive answers; we're all just fellow users here.
    Regards.

  • Itunes is not sorting my podcast playlist by 'Release Date'?

I have a Macbook running Mac OS 10.5.8.  In iTunes 10.5.2 [11], I set up a playlist of my  podcasts sorted by 'Release Date' & have everything automatically sync to my 4th Generation iPod Touch which is running ios 5.0.1 [9A405].
On my Macbook in iTunes with my iPod Touch attached by the iPod Touch cable, I see that my iPod touch is sorted by 'Release Date'.  But, when I look on my iPod Touch is not sorted by 'Release Date', but sorted by random?
On my macbook itunes does sort by 'Release Date', but not on my iPod Touch
When I was running ios 4, I didnt have this problem, could it be a bug in ios 5.0.1?
    Harold

    Hi Harold,
I have a similar problem with my ipod nano, though the podcasts do not play in a random order when they get to the ipod; whererever I start to play the podcast, once that is finished, it automatically plays the previous episode instead of the next episode. Very annoying.

  • ITunes 12.1.0.71 data corruption (TV show release date)

As many of you know, one of the many bugs in the last release of iTunes was that the "Release date" field for TV shows showed a date in 1905 and was not editable.
I just updated to version 12.1.0.71 on my Windows 7 and OS X Yosemite systems and the field is now editable. But, the dates I had set in version 11 all still seem to be lost.
To some this may not seem like a big issue but it's an issue of Apple corrupting my data. This time it's a field that isn't too big of an issue but next time it could be something worse like the actual video file!
Given how often Apple has been releasing buggy software on so many platforms I'm starting to wonder if I can trust them. Is it time for me to dump my Mac and go strictly Windows?
I've submitted this to Apple via their "Feedback" page but I have serious doubts if anyone from Apple reads the submitted feedback.
Anyone else have this issue? Any ideas if my data is actually lost or if this is yet another bug that's just not displaying my data?
    Larry.

  • Imac 3.4ghz intel core i7.  Date in applications set to 12/1/12? e.g. all release dates for podacsts in itunes is 12/1/12 - why is this and can I fix it?

Why is the date in all my applications set to 12/1/12, itunes all the podcasts release dates are set to 12/1/12, in mail all emails from apple are set to 12/1/12 etc. etc.  why, and can it be fixed?

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
Probably you have another date format. Open System Preferences > Language and Text to change the time format

  • The release dates for some ablums are incorrect.

Some of the albums in iTunes have the wrong release dates posted. See tag, this album just came out in 2011.

    Bri,
Suggest you just download 1.6 and take a quick run through the tutorials http://java.sun.com/docs/books/tutorial/ to pickup the basics again... you'll probably need a bit of a refresher course anyway if you're going back into coding for a living.
But what you've really missed is the standard hugemungious leaps in the open source libraries over the past few years.
I don't think the release notes are really worth reading, unless you're being paid to do it of course.

  • External purchase order release date is not calculated

In our live system, when creating external purchase orders from tasks within work orders, system does not calculate the release date of purchase order as explained in the documentation (planned delivery date - planned delivery time). Strangely, when the calculated release date does not lie within the current year release date is assigned to the creation date. When calculated release date lies within the same year, correct release date is assigned to the PO.
Althogh our development and productive systems have exactly the same patch level, we do not experience this behaviour on our development system. This makes me think that the problem is due to system-dependent setting or some master data such as factory calendar.
How could we correct the problem? Thanks in advance.

We don't have a release strategy for PReq.
On the Preq Item -> quantites/ dates tab there are 3 dates: delivery date, request date and release date. In MRP process, the release date is calculated by the sytem based on planned delivery time and GR processing time. The PReq should be changeable by MRP up to the release date. On the release date the system should transfer PReq to SRM and mark the PReqs
as u2018firmedu2019 u2013 not changeable. This is a SAP standard process. Worked well with EPRTRANS.
BADI ME_REQ_SOURCING_CUST imethod CHECK_EXTERNAL_SOURCE is already implemented. The BADI controls what requirements to send to SRM.
We tried putting a check for Release date like: if release date is = < than system date , send PReq to SRM:
       if is_req_item-FRGDT le sy-datum.
       cv_ext_sourcing = cl_mmpur_constants=>yes.
It does stop new PReqs with release date in future from coming to SRM. However, the BADI is not retriggered for the same PReq when the release date reached.
Can you please guide me through the implementation steps? If it possible to retrigger the PI message via a scheduled process?
    Thank you

  • Release dates of pre-ordered movies.

Does anyone know where we can get the information on release dates for pre-ordered items in iTunes?

If the release dates are known then you see them by logging into your account via the Store > View Account menu option on your computer's iTunes, and under the Settings heading on your account's screen there should a 'Pre-orders' line with a 'Manage Pre-Orders' button/link to its right, click on that : About iTunes Store pre-orders - Apple Support

  • How can I sort albums in a genre by release date in the itunes store

How can I sort albums in a genre by release date in the itunes store

Did you figure this out? Am having the same problem.
    EDIT:
Found the group in store (in this case Juana Molina) It said music -> alternative
Changed to column view, and could not find the artist at all in any of the sub categories.
iTunes is really the biggest pain in the .... and has gotten worse over the years.

  • Can you sort albums by release date, rather than year, in album view?

I love the new album view in iTunes 11, but the only problem I have with it is sometimes albums are in the wrong order.
For example, last year Green Day released a trilogy of albums called ¡Uno!, ¡Dos! and ¡Tré! but since they were released in the same year, they're ordered as ¡Dos!, ¡Tré, ¡Uno! when sorted by artist and then year which really doesn't sit right with me.
In short, the sorting options for albums view are very limited, is there any way to extend them?
Also I'm aware that I could, as a cheap fix, change the sorting in album to the release date backwards, but I'd rather not do that as it would make it a bit more troublesome for me to navigate my albums on my iPhone.
    Thanks!

I agree that Apple should improve the year field to be an actual date.
I am not 100% happy doing this, but when you have multiple albums from a single artist for the same release year, a temporary solution is to chage the album title by adding an outline type letter before album titles for that year, so that they appear in the correct order:
    David Bowie
    1977
    a. Low
    David Bowie
    1977
    b. "Heroes"
    etc
This could help in the short term until Apple changes that field.

  • Release Date for Albums Year, MONTH DAY

Why can't I enter the release date for albums (Year month and day)?   Itunes has a field for year but that's it.    I would have loved to be at the meeting where it was discussed.
"Year, month and day? why the heck would any want that?"
"Well a lot of us want to see our albums in chronological order and you can't do that with just the year, many albums come out every year"
"Blah Blah Blah, music is just to dance to, no one cares about dates, besides it would four extra digit fields in each entry"
But seriously, I would think that Itunes would aspire to be THE program for music lovers.
Instead of being able to just enter the release dates I have had to come up with my own work around.  I put a the release date in the format yyyymmdd in fromt of each title and then sort by titles.
Now all of my Beatle albums finally show up in chronological order by release date.   But why should I have to massage the data like this.   I can't imagine what goes on at Itunes planning  sessions.  I'm very unhappy about the loss of cover flow but that's another story.

I'm glad to hear that I am not the only one who sees this as a problem.  And another Beatles fan too.
This is so fundamental.  Every album has a release date and it's part of the data that is always associated with  that album.   Why did Apple look at the data available for an album and consciously decide to truncate it?
What kind of music lover isn't aware of when albums are released?  I just don't get it.
I like having the date yyyymmdd in front of each album.   It isn't pretty but it means the albums are chronological.   If you want, you could just put this in the sort field and leave the regular album title in the regular field.   Then the names would be right and they would sort correctly.   But again.  Why should we have to do all that?
Apple is busy constantly changing where the controls are on I tunes  rather than fixing something simple and important like this.
Today I wanted to load some songs onto my ipod touch and it took me 10 minutes to figure out how to sync because the last itunes update got rid of the side bar.
How are you supposed to get comfortable using a product when they keep moving the controls around?   Just quit apple.   leave the controls where they are.  Add new controls if needed but stop moving them.  I know I'm ranting now but I am honestly angry and frustrated,

  • ITunes 9 Store - Sort by Release Date

I cannot get this function on iTunes 9... I usually go to top songs and then sort it by release date (to know which songs are newest). Does this functionality exist in iTunes 9 store?

    Vibelicious, here's what I stated:
"I have seen this exact problem before. I live, repeat LIVE, in the "view ALL music release section" for browsing and buying my music, and have had to speak up about it when it has disappeared in the past.
From past experience, what I believe has happened here is that the programmers made some changes to the store while not intending to affect the view all music area, then tested most of the store apps after the changes, then just happened to overlook that this particular area of the store in question "disappeared" (because of a glitch in the new programming).
This is possibly the third time I have seen this specific type of problem occurrence happen over the last several years. The programmers have gone back in each time and fixed the problem after customers brought the problem to their attention. I will follow up with an email to the store peeps to bring it to their attention again because they are probably currently unaware of the problem. I encourage other concerned customers to do the same. Currently, this function has not worked for maybe a few days now."
Update: I did email customer service, and they did respond as always. I started by describing what I had basically noticed and theorized about above, then I asked only one simple question: Is it a glitch, and if so, will the programmers fix it? My question was not answered to make a long story short.
From my previous encounters, sometimes it's just hit and miss getting the specific answer to the question(s) posed to store service reps (even though they will always respond to emails). It's just a roll of the dice who responds. Some are very good at giving specific answers to specific questions, while others are just the opposite. I struck out this time, but do not give up just yet. You could have better luck, so please give it a shot yourself and let us know what they said back here either good or bad.

  • Year vs Release Date?

What's the difference between the Release Date field and the Year field in iTunes?
The Release Date field is one that you can't view or edit in iTunes, but for any song you've bought from the iTunes Store, it's in there. This becomes apparent when you view the song on an Apple TV. The Release Date is shown.
So, is the Release Date field really just there for Apple's own use, only for songs bought from the iTunes Store?

I've noticed the same thing. Apple has always been inconsistent about what tags get used to sort information. I don't know why they would choose to only display a tag the user can't alter.
What I find worse is that songs from the iTS sometimes have the realease date of the CD. For older content that date is often much later then the actual release date. But it's easy to change the date in the iTunes tag editor so that a song will show up in a temporal smart playlist (ie:70's music). But TV looks at the copyright date. It seems so much simpler just to make TV look at the year field. Then it would work consistently for both ripped and iTS music.
If you use Lostify to tag a ripped movie or TV show you can insert a date in the copyright field and it will show up on the TV. However, Lostify can't alter audio only files or any file bought form the iTS.
One can only hope that the first software update to TV will change the behavior. I can't find an TV feedbake link so I don't know where to voice my concern. I'm glad to see some else interested in getting this fixed.

  • ITunes podcasts "release date" say it's 2008, not 2009. Help!

iTunes seems to think it's 2008, not 2009. For podcast "release dates," iTunes tells me the right month and the right day, but not the right year. This is also the case when browsing the podcast directory in the iTunes Store. I cannot remember when this problem began.
On top of this, if I right-click on the itunes menu options running horizontal across the top of the podcast library window, I can include "year" as another category in addition to the standard "release date" (which cannot be removed), however "year" does tell me 2009 for all recent downloads. If I include "date added" and/or "date modified", meanwhile, the result is the same as that given by "release date". This is a pretty bizarre realization. Anyone else having this problem? Maybe it's a problem with the latest iTunes release? My OS X clock is perfectly okay, no problems there. Help please!

If you get incorrect dates in Date Added and Date Modified, that is not the cause of individual podcasts, but iTunes' date processing.
I had a problem with date processing and it turned out it was due to my using Custom settings in the Date & Time SysPref. The system clock worked fine, but iTunes didn't, so I changed back to standard settings and iTunes was happy again.
I'm not saying yours is the same problem but it may be worth looking at your settings.

There have been a number of problems with installing the latest iTunes on Windows 7 64-bit machines during the last couple of weeks.  You might want to do a search on that topic and see if anyone has a solution.  There have been various versions of the problem but a lot related to errors in the download package or failure to download.
