ITunes 9 redesign

how is this an "improved look and feel" ???
there is so much white background space it is hard to distinguish one section from another
it looks like it was redesigned by someone who just finished a night class in web development
all code and no sense of interactive design, layout or color

I'm glad it's not just me who's unhappy with new iTunes store. Some of the features from the old iTunes store are no longer there. Why have they removed the ability to resize the columns?
Now when I search for a song the results are displayed in a small window - often the track name and album aren't fully visible. So I find songs called "Then Came A Thou...". Great! The song title is incomplete! Is this the 'live' version or 'studio' version? I can't tell because the window is ridiculously small, and there isn't the option to resize the columns which there was in the old iTunes store.
The ability to resize the columns was very useful. Why get rid of it?
Also Apple have removed the option of resizing the whole search results window. The current iTunes store's windows display about 10 songs. The old iTunes store gave you the option to lengthen the window by clicking & dragging the window so it was bigger - easily displaying all the tracks on a double album with over 35 songs. Very handy - saves all the scrolling up and down!
Apple - please put back some of the useful features you've removed!

  • HT1208 This help article needs to be updated

There is no visible help menu with the iTunes redesign unless you choose "Show Menu Bar." The article needs to be updated.

Most of Apple's articles in regards to iTunes need to be updated for iTunes 11. Why they have not done so is beyond me. You can comment to Apple on the matter via their Support feedback page, if you wish:
    https://ssl.apple.com/support/feedback/
For that matter, why the Menu bar is hidden by default in the Windows version of iTunes 11 is also beyond me. It's seems a rather dumb thing since it makes it unnecessarily confusing for users.
    Regards.

  • When will Itunes store be available for buying music? I know it was probably redesigned and all with the Iphone 5 but are they going to open again soon?

    When will Itunes store reopen?
It seems to be closed right now due to some announcement of the Iphone 5 and all and redesign. Is it going to open back up for purchasing tomorrow or anytime soon?

If you're seeing a blank iTunes Store, see this support article:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS4123
If that does't help, try resetting Winsock. This has solved the problem for some people, at least.
    1) Click on your start menu.
    2) Go to accessories
    3) Run the Command Prompt application. For those with Vista or Windows 7, right click on Comman Prompt and choose "run as administrator".
    4) Once it opens, type in the following command...
    netsh winsock reset
    5) hit Enter and it should say something like Winsock reset successful.
    6) Reboot your computer and try the iTunes Store again.
    Regards.

  • Not Liking the New Redesigned iTunes

The new iTunes is just terrible. I do not like the new look and the user experience is frustrating.
I cannot stop the scrolling after I click and hold the scroll bar. Taking the pointer off the scroll bar and clicking in the song list, or even clicking again in the scroll bar, as examples, does not stop the scrolling. The page scrolls all the way to the bottom or top, depending upon which way you are scrolling. This makes it nearly impossible to target a song in a list, or browse a particular section of the store page, unless I just tap the scroll bar repeatedly and slowly until I get to the section of the page I need.
Also, the song library and play list pages are ugly, confusing, and it takes forever to actually play a song or album after clicking the arrow for "Play." I liked the older play list pages, where you could see the album covers on the top of the page and they would turn like book pages when you chose a particular song or album to play.
I guess I am pining for the early iTunes 10 versions, or maybe even older than that. This new version is just awkward, frustrating, and terrible in terms of mechanics and visual appeal.

Venting here really doesn't do any good. If you want help perhaps finding alternatives to your issues, or in downgrading to an earlier version of iTunes, by all means ask for help. But if you just want to vent, it would be best to do so directly to Apple via the feedback pages.
    Regards.

  • New itunes fixed nothing for me!

    errors 440-448-236-240 all related to:
"An existing connection was forcibly closed by the remote host"
i just have to run itunes with bonjour service off... no need for it but this worked fine until last update never ever had an issue for years until the last version of itunes.
good luck folks because these are exact same errors in event viewer that started on last update:
posted this in itunes forum but the only way i can stop error from piling up in event viewer is turning off Bonjour Service from Automatic to Disabled
the errors come in blocks of 4 (with non consecutive numbers 540-544-548-536) when i start itunes for my iphone 3gs
this is a clean install of windows 7 professional 64 bit
never had a problem with itunes... nothing ever logged in event viewr thru xp/vista ultimat 64 bit and windows 7 until 3/31/2010 update of itunes which i never should have done... no ipad! 9.1.079 previous version 9.03 worked like a champ fast iphone backups that were like 2 minutes and now it looks as if it's freezing at times but its just going super slow like 6-8 minutes.

above message in my event viewer since i updated to this lousy release....
have had bonjour messages before but back with vista last year...new machine running solid and steadt windows 7 64 bit with a reliabilty rating from administrative tools of 10 for past months prior to this update...anyone seeing this and if so is there a fix?
first few backups took for ever on my iphone 3gs..... most go quickly again now.
don't sync too many things other than videos.
as a side note to any user who might be able to help.... i only sync "sync only checked songs and videos" in iTunes on "Summary" tab Devices>Mark's iPhone
looking in windows firewal bonjour has pretty much free reign inbound and outbound.
i use nav 2010 antivirus which unlike older versions has been great since 2009 redesign (small footprint and very little resource use) although with 12gbs ram at 1600 i don't get any issues with apps eating ram.
really would like to get to the bottom of this error as i like running a lean, mean running machine.
based on google responses i am amoung the many windows users who have had more issues with this poor apple release update than any i can remember.
so after all this is there another version of bonjour that will work with windows 7? like previous version i could install after cleaning out the new one.

    Brian68,
I agree the basic line charge is what is making it worse for those that just want a phone (dumb phone).
Your reasoning that it will only cost an additional $20 is not quite the way I see it.  You are forgetting that additional data will be needed for the phones.  In other words I would need to up the data to 9-10GB.  That's an additional $10-20 per month.  So I would be going from $180/mo to $260/mo for total of $1920 over a 24 mo period.  Not to mention I would likely be paying a considerable amount for the phones as the dicounted price goes down significantly as you add lines.  That being the case, factor in another $500 or so bringing the total extra cost at $2420.
When you do the math the absurdity of the pricing becomes more clear.

  • HT1351 Is it possible to manage apps on a device from computer since iTunes was changed?

I am so lost since iTunes was redesigned! I like to manage my children's apps from the computer. We have multiple devices and I want different apps on each. I've lost this ability and I am floundering! We have too many apps to manage from individual devices. With my vision deficits, I find it easier to select and delete apps with the device connected and to move the apps to the page I want it on from a larger computer screen.
I used to be able to connect my device, sync it, and then go into a screen where I could manage the apps. No more! Why not? I get that the new design is all about the sale for Apple, but please don't take away functionality! Help!

After an hour of messing with this, I think I found my own answer.
The new iTunes automatically shrinks the left sidebar that has device information. It does not automatically tell us this. Control S returns the view to the familiar one.
For some reason,my device is not always appearing in the sidebar. This might be a problem with my USB port, again no idea why. I did see questions from other users experiencing the same problem. Once I did get the device to appear, I still did not have the ability to view the old screen that had a list of my loaded apps with a page by page view. The device info summary page was there, but the toolbar for the device was not visible.
I had to restore my iPod to its original settings and update before the old app screen and device toolbar returned.
I had been putting off the update because everytime I tried I got a message saying there were apps purchased on my iPod that needed to be uploaded or they would be lost with  the update. I would agree to upload them  but was never taken to a prompt to begin that process. Since I could not find a way to sync and the device specific settings were concealed I finally opted to update and lose the apps in order to solve the bigger problem. Hopefully, they are there somewhere.
Disappointed to see how many consumers are as lost as I am with the new iTunes appearance. Hope Apple is tracking these forum questions and thinking of us as clients and not just as wallets! Way too much emphasis on purchasing and not enough on user friendly accessibility in new iTunes. We're hooked, Apple. Try harder to keep us on the hook.

  • How do I gift an itunes LIBRARY playlist to someone on itunes STORE?

I have an itunes playlist in my music library on my mac.  I want to duplicate the playlist to my itunes store account so i can gift the playlist to another person.  how do i do this without a) manually recreating the playlist (it's long) and b) not use icloud?  thanks.

    John;
Thanks.  It appears that the only way to do so is to go back to iTunes 10.x - so lame.  And thanks for the feedback link - I have left my feedback which I share below.  I also email Tim Cook so someone on his staff will at least see it and not just the support folks.
    My feedback:
I cannot believe you dropped the ability to gift a playlist from my iTunes library to a friend with the "redesigned" iTunes 11.  Apparently iTunes 11.0 IS REDESIGNED TO SELL LESS SONGS.  What a complete and utter failure on your part - you're literally shooting yourselves in the foot if you have taken away the ability for users to actually BUY MORE PRODUCT from you and share their experience with iTunes.  And during the holiday season.  WHAT WERE THE GENIUSES OF ITUNES APP TEAM THINKING????  Aren't you in the business of selling iTunes songs?  And it also makes such a great last minute gift too.  And seeing how you release iTunes 11 back in Nov, you could have easily made this fix before the holiday season, but instead have not and instead let your users discover the miss in frustrating attempts - (go check out the apple support forums - your product teams check those forums, right?).
I think one forum user has you tagged perfectly - you're starting to become and act like Microsoft.  I should know, I was there for 18.5 yrs before I couldn't stand it anymore.

Does anyone at Apple or anywhere else know what's going on and how to fix this? It seems like when iTunes tries to access the iTunes store, I get this error message.
    Any suggestions are much appreicated!

Been having this prblem since last update; reinstall, uninstall nothing works.
Since my last update I'm getting loads of errors
    I couldn't find my iPhone
    Cannot connect to iPhone 0xE800007F
Couldn't sync with iPhone (once it found it)
    Error on loading (-42404)
    Store error (-42408)
    Error on playing tracks
    Error 3212 with iTunes store
And as for trying to play video...  It's so slow... iTunes was never quick, but now...
It was always a badly laid out media organiser and I only use it for syncing to iPhone, but these errors are driving me mad
I have repaired 3 times now, help for an hour at most...
Is there a patch or working update soon?
Ever going to redesign to something that is easy to use?

  • Equalizer button no longer available after upgrade to iTunes 7

With iTunes 6, there was always a button at the bottom of the iTunes window to toggle on & off the Equalizer. With iTunes 7, the button is gone. Now, the only way to activate it is to choose "Show Equalizer" from the View menu. There isn't even a shortcut key to toggle it.
Am I missing something, or was this an oversight that slipped in during the UI redesign?

  • My podcast feed won't update on iTunes. Why? And what can I do to fix?

I do a weekly podcast and hasn't updated since Sept 21st for whatever reason. Even though the rss feed shows the new episode with the enclosure link, it's not updated on iTunes. I use libsyn.com to upload the audio files and then use the enclosure links they supply me with to put on a small blog post in blogger. I then send the blogger RSS feed to send to iTunes, which has worked for 31 episodes... until now, when I've tried to upload episode 32.
The blogger feed I use in feedburner is: http://muaythaiguypodcast.blogspot.com/feeds/posts/default?=rss
The feedburner feed I send to iTunes is: http://feeds.feedburner.com/lfqKK
I tried changing the feedburner feed, but that didn't do anything. I'm also in the process of redesigning my website using wordpress, and have thought about using powerpress to keep the podcast updated. Would that be a good idea?
Any help would be much appreciated, thanks in advance!

You have sent iTunes to the wrong feed URL. There is a feed at the URL you quote, but your iTunes Store page, which is at
    https://itunes.apple.com/podcast/muay-thai-guy-podcast/id636798781
is looking for a feed at
    http://feeds.feedburner.com/blogspot/lfqKK
There is no file at that address. So now you have painted yourself into a corner. I would guess that you aren't able to get a feed up at that Feedburner address? If you can, then you need to add the 'new-feed-url' tag to (or the original feed) as described here:
    http://www.wilmut.webspace.virginmedia.com/notes/podcast.html#move
If you are unable to do that your only option (other than abandoning the podcast page and re-submitting as entirely new podcast) is to email Support at podcasts 'at' apple.com and ask them to change the Store to the correct URL - give them the URL of the Store page and both feed URLs. I can't guarantee they will do this, but it's quite possible and would solve your problem.
If you do have to resubmit, you will have to change the title slightly or you will be told the feed has already been submitted.

  • Cannot sync music and videos to an iPhone 5 running iOS 8.0 b1 on iTunes 11.2.2

    Hey everyone.
Yesterday, I decided to take the leap to iOS 8.0 beta 1 on my iPhone 5.  So far, things have been working ok (with the expected bugs here and there), except for this one thing above.
After I got it all installed on my iPhone, I then proceeded to restore from my most recent backup that I made prior to the install of this first beta of iOS 8.0.  All that other stuff (my contacts, apps, and ringtones) came back just fine.  For some reason, when it got to the part with syncing my music and videos, it was able to initally get them copied over, but then iTunes would get stuck on either "waiting for items to copy" or "waiting for changes to be applied".  I remember this same thing happening last year when I updated to iTunes 11 as well.
Is there any workaround I can do to get this to work, or am I going to have to wait for the next update of iTunes to come out?  What I'm guessing is that I won't be able to sync these things right now as the current version of iTunes only has full support for up to the most recent public release of iOS, 7.1.1.  Correct me if I'm wrong though.
Also, I have one other little error to ask about.  After clicking on check for updates from the menubar, for some reason after checking for updates to iTunes it will show this message: "The iPhone software update server could not be contacted.  An unknown error occurred (-50)."  My iPhone isn't even connected to my Mac right now in any form, whether it would be by a lightning cable or wifi.

Same issue that everyone else is having with me, and I'm also upset with Apple. Hardware is superlative, but software keeps going downhill.  I'm running OSX 10.9 anditunes 11.4.  I've tried every sync fix that may have worked for others, but nothing works for me.  iTunes was great in the beginning, but the programmers seem dedicated to cutting its knees off with redesign that is inane instead of intuitive,, dropped feaqures, etc. I even hear the itunes 12 drops the sidebar!!  I am getting the clear impression that the itunes group is a dumping ground for the rest of Apple. Fix this sync problem now. At a minum just re-use the code that worked before. N.

  • How To Access My Purchased History On iTunes 12 Windows

    Hello,
I just want to know how I can access the purchased section from iTunes 12 on Windows 8.1 PC. I just updated to iTunes 12 because every time when I plug-in my iOS devices running iOS 8.1, it would always prompt me for update. I noticed that Apple has redesigned and changed a lot with iTunes 12 unlike previous versions. I wanted to access my purchased section from App Store portion of iTunes Store. I know I can access them from iOS device but I wanted to cleanup my unwanted purchases, which means basically hide them.
Any how tos will be great.

  • HT1848 Where is the "transfer purchases" option in iTunes for Windows 8.1 (desktop)?

This article says I should use the "File Menu" on my PC's iTunes application. Unfortunately, no one revised these instructions after someone else redesigned the interface.

Thanks for your response, but I'm not finding any option like that, either.
Here's a little more detail on the context of my specific problem:
This morning, for no apparent reason, my 4 month old iPad Air decided it would not turn on. I plugged it into my PC and iTunes was able to access its contents, or at least some of it; it's not really clear.
One of the options for dealing with this situation, according to the Apple support page I read, is to have iTunes reset the iPad, which is misleadingly called "Restore iPad ...". (Evidently, this condition is common enough that there is a separate page for dealing with it.)
After backing up the iPad to my computer using iTunes, I started the so-called "Restore" process, only to be told that "There are purchased items on the iPad ... that have not been transferred to your iTunes library. If you restore this iPad, these items will be erased and you will have to purchase them again. Are you sure you want to continue?"
Naturally, this message does not give me an option button to "transfer" the purchased items to my "iTunes library"; in fact, the message does not even give the slightest hint as to how such as "transfer" might be accomplished. It also does not give any clue as to what has not been "transferred to [my] iTunes library."
So far as I can tell, the only thing that I have purchased that has not been downloaded to my computer are my iPad apps. Do I have to download those to my computer? That seems idiotic, but, then again, I am new to the Appleverse and am not familiar with its arcane and recondite ways. All that I had ever heard was that Apple stuff was supposed to be intuitive and easy to use. This seems to be the exact opposite.

  • Artwork showing in Podcast App but not iTunes Store

I updated my podcast art recently as I've had a site redesign, and typically now, the podcast artwork is not showing up in the iTunes Store. What's peculiar however is that if I subscribe to one of the podcasts in the iOS Podcast App, the artwork shows up no problem. This leads me to believe that the feeds are working fine, therefore I can't see the issue?
The affected feeds are http://dyhamb.com/rss_itunes.php, /rss_too.php, /rss_tcr.php and /rss_asf.php. Anybody have any ideas?

I checked the first URL - you have an image correctly referenced in the feed and present on the server. The Store can sometimes be quite slow to show images so I'm afraid it's just a question of waiting.
