ITunes 9 Screwing Up Video Tags?

Hello All, I'm running iTunes 9 on 10.6.1. I've been organising my TV Shows... adding Series, Episode ID, Number etc. In iTunes 8 I would load a Series into iTunes (copy to my internal drive), add the tagging data and move the files from the internal drive over to one of my larger external drives (I am going to add everything to my library when I have a much larger external drive).
I removed the files from iTunes, but noticed if I ever added them back in, the tagging had been kept in the file data and was correct.
I upgraded to iTunes 9 / SL this week, and spent 6 hours tagging shows. I copied them to my other external drive as normal. When I re-added the shows, I noticed iTunes 9 had not saved the extra tagging data. I have done nothing differently, the data was just not saved. Anyone else finding this issue?

Good question. I feel that Toast provides a better rip, at least that's what my ears tell me. It's looking more and more like I'll have to use iTunes, despite haiving bought Toast 9 just for ripping. As a guy just switching from PC I'm getting kinda frustrated with a lack of options. I have to say, Easy Media Creator works a lot better and more intuitively than Toast.

  • ITunes Match music videos are ineligible, how can I get them back onto my iPod?

    Hi,
I subscribed to iTunes Match earlier today, turned it on and did the same on my ipod touch but have now discovered all my music videos are ineligible and can't be tansfered via iCloud. It wont allow me to sync my iPod via USB cable. Is there anyway I can get my videos back onto my iPod? Thanks

I'm looking into this as well. Most of my videos were purchased from apple and showed up originally. But, I had a lot of problems with the tags in my regular music and had to more or less purge my iCloud library. Afterwards, I had the same problem as you. iTunes would no longer match the iTunes purchased music videos.
Anyhow, there is a quick way to get them transfered to your iPod.
Right click on the videos and use "Get Info" to change them to a "TV Show."
You can also set the "Show" to something like "Music Videos."
I also set all then music videos grouping to "Music Video."
Created a smart playlist that just listed all things grouped as such.
Make sure Sync TV Shows is checked.
I may have left a step or two out. But, you should be able to handle the rest from there.
This is what I'm doing at least until I find a better solution.

  • Changing multiple video tags in iTunes7

I feel fortunate to say that I've had no problems at all with iTunes 7, which seems to be a fabulous upgrade. I've upgraded all three of my Macs with no problem.
I'm wondering, tho: All of the video I've ripped from concert CDs then converted for iPod thru Quicktime Pro shows up as "movies" in the new video tags pane. However, changing them one-by-one to "music video" is going to be tough, with 700 of these files ready for conversion. But when I select multiple files, it does not let me go to the VIDEO tab option (it only shows up in the single-file info box). Anyone know a way around this? Thanks in advance...

This shortcoming of iTunes has bothered many of us for a long time. All the TV shows I offload to DVD-R for space and then later bring back into iTunes become "Movie" again, and I have to fix each one. There is no way to batch-edit the Video Kind choice in iTunes.
The easiest workaround I've found is to select the first TV show in the playlist or library, Get Info, change the video kind to "TV Show," and then use the Next button. The Video Kind box will remain active, and you can press arrow-down on the keyboard to choose "TV Show" again. Click Next, arrow-down, click Next, arrow-down . . . Soon you will have fixed all the files in the list.
Now start at the top again and type "South Park" into the Show field. Copy the words. Click Next, and paste the words. Next, paste, Next, paste . . . Now you will have given all the shows the correct name.
Another oddness about this Video tab: See the box for episode number? ITunes doesn't use that in the TV Shows library. It uses the music track number on the General tab.

  • Edu DVD in computer iTunes but does not show up in iPad iTunes or iPad video.  How do I make the DVD contents available on the iPad?

Educational DVD added successfully to computer iTunes but does not show up in iPad iTunes or iPad video.  How do I make the DVD contents available on the iPad?

Thanks!  For whatever bizarre reason for which I have no answer - I sync'd my iPad to my MBP the old fashion way (not iCloud) and the movie showed up just fine.  It is Nikon camera 'how to' video. I like to watch them for a better indepth discovery of what the camera can do.  The only weird thing about the hard wire sync is that it was placed in a catagory "home movies" which was never there before...actually it showed up in two places "home movies" and TV shows.
    So, thanks anyway!  Pretty cat!

Version 11.1.5.5 of iTunes was just released today. If you update to that, does that help with the recognition troubles?

  • How can I stop iTunes from changing my tags?

I have a MacBook Pro running Yosemite, and iTunes 12. When I play a track, iTunes often changes the tags automatically, but not for every track. It's particularly difficult with compilations, where it will take a song and change the album to something I don't even own.
Now, I have had the computer for a while, and have had iTunes addons before, so it may be a legacy, but I've had the computer so long, I don't remember all of the apps I've had and uninstalled over the years.
I have followed the directions for cleaning out plugins and extensions from the library folders, but it's still happening.
Does anyone know of an app that has this functionality, so I can check their forums, or, if there's no there a way to do a clean install of iTunes on a Mac?
    Thanks.

I think even using Get Info may not reveal the change, though it is possible the behaviour has altered since I last tested it. Playing or updating the tracks location in a script such as UpdateTagInfo seems to get iTunes to re-evaluate the tag.
Assuming WMP is involved it may be best to make the necessary settings adjustments to prevent further changes, use the script to get all of the background changes exposed within iTunes, then correct as you see fit. Alternatively I do have another script called ExportImport that could be used to back up the current state of your tags (you should temporarily rename the media folder during the export phase), after which you would then run UpdateTagInfo and then use ExplortImport in its import mode to restore the corrupted data.

  • ITunes changes my ID3 tags... more info please.

    Hello,
I'm in the process of setting up a podcast on iTunes for my church. Here is the feed. http://www.christcommunity.org.au/feed/?post_type=sermons
Now, when I subscribe to the feed in iTunes and download a file, I notice that two important ID3 tags have changed.
    1. Album changes. In 'The Authority of Jesus.mp3', it is 'The Life of Jesus' on my web server but it is 'Christ Community Church » Sermons' when downloaded from iTunes.
    2. Contributing Artists changes. In 'The Authority of Jesus.mp3', it is 'David Cunningham' on my web server bu it is 'Christ Community Church' when downloaded from iTunes.
Why do these ID3 tags change? Thanks.

    Roger,
Thanks for your reply to my post. I am not concerned about what appears in iTunes as such, and I understand how that relates to the <iTunes:> tags in the feed. The Apple documentation is pretty clear on this.
However, in the feed, the file is specified by:
    <enclosure url="http://media.blubrry.com/christcommunitychurch/www.christcommunity.org.au/ wp-sermons/20110306-ChristCommunity-Mark1.mp3" length="8640981" type="audio/mpeg" />
Now, when I download the file from that URL and look at the ID3 tags, the Album is set to 'The Life of Jesus' and the Contributing Artists is set to 'David Cunningham'. When I download the same podcast episode through iTunes, using the same feed, the ID3 tags change, as specified in my original post.
The feed is created by Blubrry/PowerPress but this process does not alter the ID3 tags.
So the question still remains, why is iTunes changing my ID3 tags? Thank you for your assistance.

  • ITunes overwriting my ID3 tags

    Hi all,
iTunes has been playing up lately. Somehow, when I open iTunes, it seems to overwrite cover art (deletes cover art), disk # information (again deletes it), and track info (even if I have X of Y, it deletes the 'Y' data).
What on earth is going on? It seems like somekind of auto-retrieve ID3 info messing about in the background - if so, how do I turn this off?

iTunes should not alter your iD3 tags by itself, but whenever you select or play a track, iTunes rereads the tags. This can produce the appearance that iTunes is changing the tags when it is merely reflecting a change that has already happened.
Do you have any other software on your PC that can automatically change tags?
For example, Windows Media Player can be set to automatically retrieve information form the internet, that can cause trouble if it is selected in Options.

  • Itunes Library and ID3 tags

    Hi,
    So here's my problem :
I spent hours cleaning my MP3 collection and re-Writing ID3 tags in order to have a clean Itunes Library without "Blink 182" and "Blink-182" (for exemple) in the Explorer but just "Blink 182".
And importing my tied up music in the library, I noticed that there still was "Blink-182".
    I checked my ID3v1 and ID3v2 tags : They're all the same : "Blink 182".
I don't understand where iTunes takes these artists name since they aren't in the tags.
Can you help me or these hours of cleaning where worthless ?
    Thanks

If you open iTUnes, rightclick the song, hit "Get Info" and the artist field is "Blink 182" instead of "Blink-182" then all you need to do is play the song and iTunes should read the tag and correct the info.
If it does not do this one of the 2 is most likly happening, theres multiple tags on the song that needs to be stripped off using the program "TidyMP3" or windows media player is "Sneaking around" in the background and changing them back based on the info its getting off the net, in which case you will have to open WMP, goto tools>oPtions>Library tab and UNCHECK "Retrieve info off the internet"

  • Error coming up states " warning some of the videos in your iTunes library including video "Dora" were  copied to the iPad "ellen's iPad " because they cannot be played on this

I purchased tv shows for my son over 4th of July weekend from iTunes on my iPad...he has been watching with no problem...yesterday I backed up my iPad and the videos were taken off while I was syncing it. Error coming up states " warning some of the videos in your iTunes library including video "Dora" were not copied to the iPad "ellen's iPad " because they cannot be played on this iPad was not copied because the video format is not supported by the iPad.....makes no sense since he watched the video on Friday on my iPad...I went into the properties of the video and under the summary tab states kind of video is mpeg-4video file...went into the folder on my pc and the file is listed as a m4v file...under the tab tv shows when my iPad is connected I have it checked to sync tv shows and to automatically include "all" episodes of "all shows" ....
I am using version 4.3.4 on my iPad and iTunes version 10.4 ...I even restored back to the original settings and still did not work....called apple twice yesterday and spoke to 2 different people and no one could help me.....I am able to load a movie from my pc to my iPad with no problem and the movie is a mpeg-4video file....totally clueless...

I kept having a similar problem - 3 out of the 10 videos I had on iTunes wouldn't sync. They were in the right format and I KNEW they worked on my iPod because I'd RECORDED them on my iPod. I finally figured out what to do! Go to the movies in your iTunes library. Click on one that does not sync. Click on "Advanced" at the top of iTunes and choose "Create iPod or iPhone version". Once that's finished, be sure you delete the old version so you don't keep getting the error (or have 2 copies of the same video) and sync. This should eliminate the problem. At least it did for me!

  • ITunes 12.1 has static-y music, the 64 bit iTunes for old video drivers did NOT fix

Playing music on my iTunes has all of a sudden become static-y as of the 12.1 update, I looked for a while and found the "64 bit iTunes for older video drivers" and found that it fixed the problem for most people, I installed it and tried playing music, it's still static-y, I've changed my audio bitrate playback and bits per sample and nothing has changed, does anyone have a fix?

Did you see if changing the Play Audio Using select in Edit > Preferences > Playback to "Direct Sound" resolves the issue?  Otherwise you may want to consider rolling back to 12.0 and waiting until a future release is shown to resolve the playback issues in 12.1.  See Turingtest2's notes on Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates for steps needed to completely remove all installed iTunes components, and for links to the 12.0 installers.

  • How do I stop iTunes from duplicating video files?

For some reason unknown to me, iTunes duplicates the video files when they are added to the library.
For music, when I add these to the library, the files stay on the external drive, and they are listed in the library.
However, I now moved my video files to an extrnal drive, but when I want to add them back into my library, it wants to copy all of them (the full file) from the external drive to my itunes folder.  I moved them off of the computer hard drive because they take up too much space.  I don't want them here, but I do want them in the library so I can select and sync them.
How do I add these videos to my itunes library, but keep the actual files on the extrnal drive?

Turn off the option "Copy to iTunes Media folder when adding to library" under Edit > Preferences > Advanced.

  • Okay. Basically my itunes screws up my computer when i load it.

    hey guys,
Okay. Basically my itunes screws up my computer when i load it up.  Its quite hard to explain, but loading it up seems to cause my computer to fluxuate between frozen and unfrozen, makeeverything go 100x slower, and then i have to restart my computer before anything works properly again.  This doesnt happen for ANTHING else. JUST itunes. Also, when i try to play music on youtube or itunes after loading it,ever 5 seconds it makes a noise like a computer jamming while playing a noise, its really wierd and hard to explain.  I downloaded itunes 9 and it seemed to work ok, but wasnt compatible with my ipod.  All eversians of itunes 10 screw it up.
thanks to anyone who gives up their time to help me, you have no idea how much it means! thanks!

I dont know what you mean with modname, modver , BEX or P1 to P9 ?
Good gracious ... you're seeing something radically different from what I see if I click on the "Click here" link in an equivalent sort of message.
For example, I can generate a "Safari has encountered a problem" message by setting Safari to run in Windows 95 compatibility mode:
... but when I click the "click here" link, what I see is:
(If the error was a BEX, I'd see the P1 through P9 things where my screenshot is showing AppName, AppVer, ModName, ModVer and Offset.)
I'm not sure how to interpret the information in your screenshots. So I'd like to check some other information to see if that helps with determining what is going on.
    (1) What make and model of PC do you have?
    (2) Fingers crossed, screenshots might help with the following thing. (I'm not sure what the items are called on a French localisation of Windows XP.) In your Start Menu, right-click My Computer and select Manage:
    Now select "Device Manager":
    Expand "DVD/CD-ROM drives":
What make and model of DVD/CD-ROM drive shows for you there? (Where my one shows "Mashita DVD/CDRW UJDA775"?)
