ITunes 9 & Snow Leopard 10.6.1

So updates galore today and iTunes breakage after YEARS of reliability. About 3 or 4 years ago I ripped 75% of my (then 500+) CD collection with a Windows box using a 3rd party app (WinAMP plus) in anticipation of my Macbook Pro. Everything has been imported AAC (MP4) @ 256kbs quality. And today Apple gave me a gift. Which incidentally broke my music collection.
How can I fix this without re-ripping a zillion CDs?

So are the files just not showing up in iTunes or have the files been physically removed from the hard drive?
I don't really understand how updating iTunes could possibly delete the files from the hard drive, but it does sounds more likely that the iTunes library file was lost/overwritten during the update. If that is the case, you just need to go to iTunes and from the menu bar select File>Add to Library... and select the folder where your music is stored (should be Home(home being your user name folder)>Music>iTunes). This should add all the files into your iTunes library again.

Why iTunes 12.0.1 is not proposed for Snow Leopard ? I have a quad-core i5 iMac 27" mid-2010, that is hosted with OS X 10.6.8,
and an iPhone 5. If a new version of iTunes is not proposed by Apple, it will not be possible for me to update with iOS 8.1.
Is my iMac and iPhone models considered as obsolete by Apple ? The hardware, and hosted softwares are about 4 years old !
I can't believe that my Macintosh and iPhone are obsolete ... A new iTunes version must imperatively be proposed for it.
    I'm really embarrassed =(
    Regards,

I can't update to Yosemite, because softwares that run on SL are not running under Yosemite.
    I'm really embarrassed, indeed =(
Microsoft proposed a working version of Skype, for Snow Leopard. Wouldn't it be a good idea for Apple to release such a version for iTunes 12 ?
    I wonder ...

  • I have iPhone 4 with newest update and Mac laptop with Snow Leopard and current version of iTunes. When I hook the phone up via USB, iPhoto pops open and reads the pictures for import, but iTunes doesn't do anything. Not seeing the device as a USB, either

Sorry, thought that was the body of the question, so the title is long. When I plug in my iPhone 4 (newest update) into my Mac laptop (current version of iTunes, Snow Leopard), it does not read the music, apps, etc., or open iTunes at all. It syncs the pictures, but it doesn't not show as a USB device, either. I have gone through the Troubleshooting assistant, restarting both comp and laptop, using different USB ports, etc. If it is of note, when I look at the option to Sync through Wifi on the phone, it says that sync will happen when my computer (by name) is "available." Not sure if this is a phone issue or laptop, leaning towards laptop, since iPhoto syncs. Willing to buy Lion if that will fix the problem! I would appreciate any help that is given.
    Regards,
    Lindsey

You have written a very long story, and I admit I have skipped most of it.  But I think the question is you are on iOS 7, and cannot get the latest version of iTunes (11.1.5) on your computer because your OS X is too old.
The fact that you chose not to update your hardware does not mean you could not update your software!
OS X 10.5 is very old (about four years).  iTunes 11.1.5 (current version) requires at least OS X  10.6.8 to run.  Very likely, you could upgrade your computer's software to at least OS X 10.6.8 and then download the current iTunes on it.
    You would start here:
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573Z/A/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard
Then you would update the OS X 10.6 to OS X 10.6.8 over the air, then download iTunes (or update to a later OS X, as the current version is 10.9.2).

  • When I sync my iPod to my MacBook through iTunes new events do not show up and old events are not deleted. I am using Snow Leopard  and not iSync.

I am using Snow Leopard on a MacBook. I have an iPod touch 3G. I do not use iSync it Mobile Me. When I sync my iPod through iTunes new events on my iPod do not show up on my Mac and old events do not delete. I have read help instructions that include deleting the data on the iPod. The iPod has the correct data and the Mac does not so I have not followed those instructions. I need help as the only reason I bought the Mac was to be able to sync, back up, view and print my calendar. Currently it is useless. If only Apple could have learned from the elegance of the Palm software.

  • I have a Mac mini OSX 10.4.11 Intel Core Duo, 512mb, 1.83 GHz with iTunes 9.0.3. What steps do I need to take to get my music library to my iPad. I dont think I meet the requirements to just upgrad to snow leopard and/or lion. I want the music I paid for

I have a Mac mini OS X 10.4.11, intel core duo processor (not core 2 duo), with 512 mb and 1.83 GHz processor.  I only have version 9.0.3 of iTunes because it hasn't let me go higher, which I believe is because of the operating system.  I want to get my purchased music from the Mac mini to a different computer (that has the latest version of iTunes) and also my iPad.  The Mac mini does not meet the requirements listed to simply upgrade to snow leopard or lion. As far as I can tell.  Forgive me if I am lacking here...this is new to me.  What can I do to get the music transferred.  I have invested alot of money over the past few years on all this music that I should be able to transfer.  Thank you in advance if you can help me.

If you want to sync it to the iPad from that Mac, you need to upgrade it to at least 10.5.8.
If you want to copy the music to another Mac, you don't. Move the iTunes folder of the item in the Finder's sidebar over as you would any other folder. If you put it somewhere other than the Music folder, launch iTunes with the Option key held down and point it to that location.

  • Home sharing does not work after update to snow leopard 10.6.4 and iTunes 9

I am using home sharing since about a year without any problems. After updating to snow leopard 10.6.4 and iTunes 9.2 it suddenly does not work anymore.
On my iMac and my Mac Book Pro I get error code 3259 and it tells me to check my firewall and to enable Port 3689.
I did not change anything in the firewall settings, itunes on both allows data traffic in both directions. I also do not find any option to activate a port ( also wondering why this is suddenly now necessary)
I deactivated home sharing on both machines and enabled it again. It still does not work.
On both machines iTunes displays the the library on the left side but like said it is not accessable
With Finder I can access the other computer from both machines without any problem.
Any help to solve this would be very much appreciated

first of all, if you are behind a router firewall, and have your network secured (WPA2 and a long, non-dictionary password made up of letters and numbers), you don't need the software firewall on your Mac(s).
@ least turned if off for troubleshooting purposes.
turn home sharing off on both computers, and make sure
    (a) both Macs have access to the internet
    (b) iTunes on both machines is authorized for the same iTunes account.
turn home sharing back on on both Macs.
    does it work ?

Sorry, but that is correct. You need Snow Leopard to sync your phone and the latest version of iTunes and you old G5 cannot run that.

  • Snow Leopard (10.6.8) Web Browser, App Store, iTunes Store image won't finish loading.

    Hello,
I've recently upgraded from Leopard to Snow Leopard by clean installing. Once I upgraded to Snow Leopard (10.6.3) everything seemed to work perfectly except for the new keyboard that I purchased (requires upgrade to 10.6.8). So as I upgraded to 10.6.8 by "Software Update…".
Once the update was completed and the machine restarted I've noticed when I opened opened couple of common sites in Safari (such as: Flickr, YouTube, and Amazon) and some of the images won't finish loading with a "?" in the middle where the image would be and browser assumes that the site was done loading. First I thought this was a refresh problem so I hit refresh on the browser but nothing really happened. I thought this was strange so I decided to download Google Chrome and Firefox to try it out as well. Same situation as well… Then I opened  the App Store and iTunes Store and the same things happened there as well. I'm assuming that all these images exists online so anything that access the web to load images will just crap out. One odd thing is that this problem don't seem to happen on any of the sites on Apple when I view it in the web browsers.
I couldn't figure out the reason so I decided to reinstall Snow Leopard (10.6.3) again by cleaning out the hard drives as before. Once it finished installing I opened up iTunes Store and Safari and the images loads fine. So went ahead (crossing my fingers) to "Software Updates…" to 10.6.8 and the the problem happened again.
I naively went ahead and tried to clean installing it again, thinking "Third time is the charm!" But same situation once I upgrade to 10.6.8. After the third time I let the browser sit there after it didn't load those images. I waited about five minutes and hit refresh and the images loaded. This happened the same with App Store and iTunes Store images as well. This is very odd because my interment connection hasn't been a changed before I upgraded to 10.6.8. Seems like browsers just cuts off the loading time of the whatever that's lagging instead on that site.
Is there a solution in the preferences for this or is this some kind of a bug that I'm having with my OS disc or network card? I don't think this has nothing to do with my modem or my interment service because it was working fine before I upgraded to 10.6.8.

I get that same problem too-you could try checking your network settings, release and renew your IP address, see if that helps. There is a tweaking menu you can get in Firefox that can help somewhat (google Firefox tweaks) but you'd have to raise the hood in FF and tinker a bit, but it does help. How much RAM do you have on your Mac Pro?, also update your Java and shockwave
sorry I can't be of more help

  • ITunes 10.4 on Snow Leopard failing in almost every way possible

I just updated to the recently released iTunes 10.4 on my Mac, OS X 10.6.8 Snow Leopard.  I made the mistake of not cloning my drive just before the update, like I usually do.
The new iTunes launches just fine, but is unfortunately almost completely unusable.
Here is a running list of the ways in which I have thus far noted its failure.
1.) iTunes fails to recognize my iPhone 3G, resulting in the inability to sync apps, music, podcasts, photos, data, etc. It fails to show up in the "device" list in the left hand column of the iTunes interface.
2.) iTunes fails to recognize my iPad 2 with similar resulting problems noted above. It likewise fails to show up in the "device" list.
3.) iTunes attempts to download updated podcasts to which I subscribe as per usual. Cool.  They completed download never registers within iTunes. The download status bar moves all the way to the very end where it then states "processing file", and stays there perpetually. The downloaded podcast never shows up in the podcast library within iTunes. If I quite iTunes and then relaunch it, the process will be repeated with identical results. However, I have also noted that if I navigate to where the actual downloaded files reside in Finder, I can see that they have, in fact downloaded, and I now have multiple copies relative to how many attempts were made to download them within iTunes.
4.) Music/Audio CDs are no longer recognized in iTunes and thusly cannot be imported in the traditional manner. Although they show up as mounted on the desktop, they never show up in the iTunes interface and cannot be played through iTunes.
5.) Playing videos is tweaked beyond the telling of it. This one category of problems requires separate sub-entries:
a.- Playing videos, movies, TV Shows, video podcasts, etc can only be initiated in iTunes when the video file is selected through the List View. Double clicking on a video file within Grid View or Cover Flow will not initiate video play. The one exception is within Cover Flow. A video can be selected in the Cover Flow pane, and the 'play' button can be clicked in the upper left corner of the interface to initiate video play. Otherwise, the video must be selected from the List View.
b.- Once your video begins playing, you are pretty much committed. You cannot exit out of this playback unless you quit iTunes. Video Playback automatically takes up the entire "full screen" view utilizing the entire iTunes interface pane, no matter how else you have the video playback preferences designated, either in iTunes preferences, the View menu options, or right-clicked video playback options on the video playback itself. The video playback has taken over, and you're pretty much stuck with it. You cannot collapse the video playback with the little floating circle 'x' in the upper left corner of the video frame.
c.-  The floating control bar in the lower third of the video frame no longer functions. Keyboard functionality is disabled, so pressing the space bar no longer activate play/pause of your video. The only way to play or stop the video is with the play icon button in the top left of the interface.  But even if you stop the video, it's remains paused at full screen - even if it has played to the final frame of the video.
         d. - Once you have initiate video playback, or even completed video playback, you can no longer see or access any of the other elements within the iTunes interface. Your only hope at this point is to quit iTunes, and then relaunch to access other content.
6.) The iTunes Store is no longer accessible. When clicking on the iTunes Store listing on the left-hand column of the interface, the interface window appears as though it will attempt to open your access to the iTunes Store, but it will not go beyond a large, blank, white interface window with the word "iTunes Store" in the middle of it, and the invitation in the upper right corner to "sign in" in small print - which, unfortunately will do nothing when clicked.
As a means to fix the problems, I went back to Apple and separately downloaded the iTunes update .dmg, and re-installed with it, outside of the standard Software Update method I first used. Not fixed.
I rebooted the system and repaired permissions multiple times.  Not fixed.
Additionally, I deleted my iTunes preferences. Not fixed.
On advice from another suggested fix, I deleted the iTunesHelper file from my Login items and manually re-installed it from the updated application package.  Not fixed.
I've scoured the MacFixit forums, and these Apple forums, and while I've noted numerous references to folks having problems with iTunes 10.4, I haven't seen them nearly as comprehensive as I've experienced them today, but I hope someone out there has a suggestion as to a viable fix that may restore the functionality I enjoyed this morning, before applying this circus of an update this afternoon.
I'm technically savvy about using my Mac and OS X, and if these problems stem from some type of user error, I admit I just can't imagine what it is or what I did wrong (aside from stupidly failing to clone a backup prior to update - allowing me to revert right back to the previous version of iTunes.)I would suggest that iTunes 10.4 update is a total dog, but that would unfairly insulting to dogs.
    Thanks for reading.

Very many thanks to you, Putaro!  Your answer provided the solution. It was a buggy plug-in that turned out to be the culprit.
You're off the hook, Apple, and my apologies for stating that you let a dog run loose. You skated by this time, Apple. But I'm watching you.
But again, Putaro's reference to the plugins I had installed over the years turned out to illuminate the problem. I have several plugins in my iTunes plugins folder, pretty much all designed to add more visualizer functionality. I removed all of them, and ALL of the problems I noted in my post went away, with full iTunes functionality restored.
I began adding the plugins back to hopefully single out the culprit. Among the ones I had been using included fielder, G-Force, Timestrech, volcanokit, QuartzComposer, and Jax. I hadn't used any of them in a while - probably at least a verison or more back in iTunes updates, but iTunes continued to work with all of them installed. Currently, only QuartzComposer continues to work in iTunes 10.4. The rest no longer even show up as visualizer opitons, with one exception. Jax does show up, but does not work. AND THE PRESENCE OF JAX IS WHAT KILLED MY ITUNES.
I looked into it and went back to the developer, and it appears that they discontinued developing Jax some time ago - evidently, it was buggy and crash prone. I remember after buying it, having problems with it - having never worked to its touted potential, but I didn't pursue it, and never uninstalled it. Leaving it in there caused all iTunes functionality to cease with the iTunes 10.4 update.
If you've got Jax installed, consider removing it before updating to iTunes 10.4.
My iTunes is now working right as rain, thanks again to Putaro!

  • Since installing snow leopard on my macbook itunes won't work

Since I installed snow leopard my itunes wont open it comes up with an error message   The fiel "iTuneslibrary.itl" cannot read because it was created by a newer version of iTunes,
Can someone help me through this.  Its very frustrating, I was forced to install snow leopard in order to download itunes 10, so that it would recongize my iphone.

Nothing should happen to the old content.  Still, you should make a backup first because once a month somebody claims something horrible did happen during an update and now they have lost all their music, their dog died, their car crashed, and they got a C- in English literature.  Oh, and it is all Apple's fault for not telling them they had to back up.

  • "The iPhone is already synced with another iTunes library" same imac but after update Snow leopard now have this problem? HELP

I recently just had to re-install snow leopard on my imac. Thankfully I backed up all my music and re-imported everything from my old install to this one. However, when I go to sync my iPhone 4 I get the message that reads:
"The iPhone is already synced with another iTunes library. Do you want to erase this iPhone and synch with this iTunes library?"
It warns that doing so will erase my current iphone and replace the contents of it with the contents in my new iTunes library.
I manage to back up photo in iPhoto, using iTune I Back up using control click mouse and get the back up button, but when I search my computer for the backup it cannot find it anywhere!!!!I I'm afraid to sync in fear of losing all my images and app data. want all mytext and other things to be safe

  • How can I restore my iTunes library via Time Machine after an erase/install and upgrade to Snow Leopard?

    Actual problem:
I reinstalled all my programs that I need without a hitch. Meanwhile, I've been trying to recover the few files (mostly music) I actually store on my computer's hard drive as opposed to on my external HDs. I use one external HD for my graphic files and the other is strictly for Time Machine backups. I tried to recover my iTunes music, but I got a message that says: "The file: "iTunes Library.itl" cannot be read because it was created by a newer version of iTunes." I restored (I thought) my iTunes library Username/Music/iTunes." Additionally, I was going to upgrade to Mountain Lion, but I have seen that there were issues with Lion and iTunes libraries so I'm a little wary of this.
Excuse the long explanation, but I figure the problem may possibly be in the details of the weeks prior this problem:
I have recently been having issues with my iMac. I brought it in to see a Genius twice within the past month and they couldn't seem to find the problem. (It would restart Finder of it's own accord while I was using Adobe CS programs) I figured it was worth backing everything up via Time Machine and doing a complete erase/install/factory reset. I did so and had a problem again, and brought it in again, third time. The Genius did another diagnostics tests and found nothing and said my erase/install probably did the trick, but time will tell. I am, after the erase/rewrite and upgrade running Mac OS X 10.6.3 and previous to this was still running Tiger.

So, I didn't update iTunes and the rest of it after installing Snow Leopard. My stupidity, I figured that the OS was more up to date than the one I had previously so that all the programs that come with it probably were more current than the ones I was using. However, now that I have updated all my software, I am still getting the same message from iTunes that I was previously. I cannot open iTunes at all, same "The file: "iTunes Library.itl" cannot be read because it was created by a newer version of iTunes." message. I'm confused again. Checked a few other threads and whatnot and cannot seem to figure this out.
