ITunes 9 - solution is to uninstall and get older version?

I am wondering as the problem I have below seems to be unsolvable is it a wise move to uninstall iTunes on the mac as I have all the music on my ext HD and reload?
Have a prob with iTunes and it is getting messier the more I fiddle with it. Bought an external HD had a friend partition for me and things were ok until I added iLife and was transferring HD tape to the external HD. My friend (PC guy) didn't set up the partition properly for a mac so I ended up doing it. Moved all the data from the ext HD back onto my mac, partitioned, then put every thing back, or so I thought. Now when I try to access my iTunes library almost all of it has exclamation points and I cannot sync my iPod for the same reason. I tried changing the iTunes media folder location in preferences then organize library and consolidate files but this has made it worse as it seems I now have copies of songs on both the mac and ext HD but neither works on iTunes. Began to try the iTunes Track CPR v1.3 but it is a waste of time when you are talking 8k plus songs. Any suggestions?
TIA

Do I stay w/iTunes v9?
i would.
Am curious as to why everyone is getting the exclamation mark problem not just me.
not everyone is getting the "!". the trick is to let iTunes do the moving. if you move files via the finder, iTunes loses track of their location - it's as simple as that.
Not worried about play lists, ratings etc.
good. fire up iTunes with the option key pressed and, @ the prompt, choose to create a new library. go to the advanced tab, point iTunes to the desired location, check +keep iTunes media folder organized+ and +copy files to+ ...
next, file > add to library and navigate to the folder on the external containing your media files.
for future reference, check this read on how to move your iTunes library properly.
good luck !

  • After installing LV 7, MAX 3, NIDAQ 7, can not target to LV 6.1 RT even after uninstalling and loading older version.

We have started using LV 7 for all of our new projects but still have to support a number of older projects made in LV 6.1. After installing LV 7, MAX 3 and NIDAQ 7, we can not do remote DAQ configuration on the older version of RT and can not target to the RT system either. We used NIs uninstall for MAX and NIDAQ and then reinstalled the older versions, but we still can not remote DAQ configuration. Computers that have the older versions of MAX and NIDAQ and have never had the newer versions installed have no problem with remote DAQ configuration or targeting.
How can we go back to the previous version of MAX and NIDAQ and get it to work? What is left
    after uninstalling the newer versions?

    Rob,
I would recommend creating a Service Request on-line and contacting an Application Engineer. There are several possible reasons that software might not be completely removed, and we have some utilities that will make sure this does not happen. There also might be some issues with downloading the code to the "target". We could quickly reformat the controller and make sure to get the older software on the system.

Let's see if a more rigorous uninstall/reinstall procedure gets us past that, nancy. See the following troubleshooting document:

Started having trouble with iTunes so I uninstalled everything and tried to reinstall but it says ' iTunes cannot run because some of its required files are missing. Please reinstall iTunes.'  Well, I've uninstalled and reinstalled 5 times.  Now what?

I figured it out.  A week ago I had downloaded a screensaver from a website I trusted and that's when my problems started. I uninstalled it but that didn't help.  So, I reinstalled it then used an uninstall softtware app that cleanns more than the control panel does. Then I used a computer cleaner to be sure everything was wiped clean.  And it worked.  I downloded iTunes for the 7th time in 2 days and finally it worked!  And I lost nothing from my account.
Maybe this info will help others.

Download the Windows Installer CleanUp utility from the following page (use one of the links under the thingy on the Major Geeks page):
    http://majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=4459
To install the utility, doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file you downloaded.
Now run the utility ("Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up"). In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any Bonjour entries and click "Remove", as per the following screenshot:
Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try another install. Does it go through this time?

  • Why won't Adobe reader no longer let me view previously download (from Safari) pdf's? I am running OSX 10.8.5 and have uninstalled and reinstalled latest version of Reader?

Why won't Adobe reader no longer let me view previously download (from Safari) pdf's? I am running OSX 10.8.5 and have uninstalled and reinstalled latest version of Reader. I get this error message "Adobe Reader could not open 'OD Test Bed Proposals_0.pdf' because it is either not a supported file type or because the file has been damaged (for example, it was sent as an email attachment and wasn't correctly decoded)."  I have tried changing the 'open with' options too. Thanks

    Try this:
    Go to: Mac HD/Library/Internet Plug-ins
Trash the AdobePDFViewer.plugin and AdobePDFViewerNPAPI.plugin files
    Empty the trash
Relaunch Safari. You can now download undamaged PDFs.

    Hi, Jennifer.
First, try resetting the device.  The first article will walk you through this process.  I am unsure which iPod nano you have so I will include the basic article.  From there, select your version for troubleshooting steps.

No; they will not downgrade that device, and it’s highly unlikely that they have the same iPhone model running an older iOS version.

    Many thanks.
Unfortunately, this sort of trouble has gotten more complicated to deal with ever since Microsoft pulled the Windows Installer CleanUp utility from their Download Center on June 25. First we have to find a copy of the utility.
Let's try Googling. (Best not to use Bing, I think.) Look for a working download site for at least version 3.0 of the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. (The results from mydigitallife and Major Geeks are worth checking.)
After downloading the utility installer file (msicuu2.exe), scan the file for malware, just in case. (I use the free version of Malwarebytes AntiMalware to do single-file scans for that.)
If the file is clean, to install the utility, doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file you've downloaded.
Now run the utility ("Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up"). In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any QuickTime entries and click "Remove".
Quit out of CleanUp. Restart the PC, and try another iTunes install. Does it go through properly this time?

Try posting in the iTunes Match forum, you'll probably find more knowledgeable folks there.

  • HT204266 is there a way to get older versions of apps? I have a 2nd gen ipod touch with ios 4.2.1

is there a way to get older versions of apps - for a 2nd gen ipod touch with ios 4.2.1

The only way is to jailbreak and download cracked apps, but I would recommend you wouldn't do that as this is piracy and jailbreaking is illegal in some countries.

  • How do you get older versions of apps?

I am trying to download iPrint for an epson printer and I have researched that I need version 1.2.1 but the version in the app store is version 2.0. Is there any way to get a previous version of an app from the app store?

I have the same problem. I have many Apple software in use like iMovie, Keynote, iPhoto, FinalCut. When I do setup another Mac I always use 10.6.8 Snow Leopard. I need this because of PPC Software thats important for my work. But then I need Software that runs on 10.6.
So how can I get the older versions? I suppose Apple wants us to buy it for each machine we run, right? But if I do not get older versions in the store, I only can use copies of the downloads I made earlier.
As I see it, Apple does force us to always use the newest system. I do not like that.

  • HT201210 Daft question I know but can the IOS 7 update be erased and an older version be restored?

Daft question maybe but can the IOS 7 software be erased and an older version put on an iphone 5??????

Apple offers no supported way to do it.  As such any other non supported ways that may exist cannot be discussed in these forums.
No that if you try any of the non supported ways you may void your warranty and forfeit any support from Apple including these forums.
Yoiu can use Google to find ways of doing this at your own risk.
