Itunes a power hog on XP

im using itunes 8.01 its so buggy! it eats lots of my computer memory and its difficult to sync.
what can i do? i want itunes to run faster, is there a tweak?
also it changed the some album aRtworks!

The solution I found was the following:
1. Delete all of the files from that folder, >1000, from iTunes.
2. Copy the Windows Media Player folder to a local drive on my computer with a wired connection.
3. Set iTunes preferences to copy files when imported.
4. Add the folfer to the iTunes library.
5. Delete the Windows Media Player folder on my local drive.
This is not optimal because I need to have the space available to maintain my previous library and new library on my hard drive at the same time, but it works.

  • Error in iTunes Store Power Search

Hi and thanks in advance for your assistance. I need to research songs and artists and have been trying to do this via the iTunes store Power Search.
Problem is that when I type in an artist name and hit "search", I immediately get this error message:
We could not complete your iTunes Store request. An unknown error occurred (-50).
There was an error in the iTunes Store. Please try again later.
I press OK and then do the search again immediately. On the 2nd search, I get results. This is very consistent.
It doesn't happen on another co-workers computer, but it happens on a different co-workers computer.
    Any help is GREATLY appreciated!

I'm experiencing an error involving power search as well, however my error is not numbered. I attempt to search for a song, artist, album, and composer anything and iTunes will appear as if its searching then a window will pop up informing me:
We could not complete your iTunes Store request. The network connection timed out. Make sure your network settings are correct and your network connection is active, then try again.
Everything is in order on my computer itself, my connection is in perfect order and is active and alive. I have been receiving the message above for at least a week.

  • How can I do a hard reset of iPhone 5 if iTunes and power buttons don't work?

My son's iPhone 5 will not go past the screen with the little blue iTunes logo up top and an image of the charger on bottom.  I've tried syncing to iTunes to restore but receive an error message after it goes through updates.  The error reads, "There was a problem downloading the software for the iPhone "iPhone".  The network connection was reset.  Make sure your network settings are correct and your network connection is active, or try again later."  So then I try holding down the power and home buttons to get the Apple logo but then the initial screen comes backs (iTunes logo/image of charger).  This phone is really not THAT old so there has to be a solution out there.

The error that you are seeing has to do with your Internet connection. Try disabling your anti-virus software and connect the iPhone again and try to restore. See this support document for help. http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1808

  • Itunes and power PC

I have a desktop Power PC running OSX 10.4.6. I upgraded iTunes to version 7.6.1 which will not open now. The warning window says I need OSX 10.4.9 or latter to use it. EXCEPT when I down load the new OSX 10.11 or the combo of that I get a warning saying the volume in this Power PC is not compatible. Now I no longer have iTunes. Is there a way to get an older version of iTunes back so I can play my music?
    Thanks,
    Walt

    Hi Neil,
Downloaded the file, tried to install it, message came up saying install did not work, try again, so I did 3 times, no luck. Put the update in the trash, would not empty and machine froze. Had to unplug it to turn it off. Now whole system is down when I restart. No dock and the none of the commands under the apple work. Have to use the button on the front of the machine to turn it off. ooops
    Any more ideas?
    Thanks,

  • ITunes disables Power Options- Turn Off Monitor

If I just run iTunes on my Windows XP PC my monitor no longer turns off after the "Control Panel->Power Options->Power Schemes->Turn off monitor" time period has expired. The monitor stays on contiuously. This issue exists even if I exit iTunes. I need to manually go into control panel and reset the "Turn off monitor" setting.
I suppose there might be a reason iTunes wants to disable this when it's executing but how about putting this energy saving setting back they way it found it when I exit iTunes.
Is there a way to do this?
    Thanks,
    J

  • Spotlight indexing drive and beach balls in Itunes after Power Outage.

Hi, My Mac Pro is hooked up to a battery backup. Last night we had a wind and rain storm and the power went out. The mac stayed on about 10 minutes before it shut down. The power went back on the next morning. When I put my Mac Pro on spotlight began to re-index my second internal drive. It took about 10 minutes to complete. I assumed that it had already indexed. When I plugged my Iphone into my Mac to charge, itunes opened and I kept getting beach balls until the Iphone synced. I never had this before. I opened disk utility and performed a repair permissions. Should I be concerned? Thanks

  • Migrating iTunes from Power Mac G5 to Mac Pro

Alright, so going from an old PowerMac G5 too a Mac Pro, I've avoided using migration for anything in hopes to keep the new system as virgin as possible. I've not really missed a beat having backed up most important files to an ext. HD.... including my iTunes folder.
It has not seemed as convenient to just copy the music folder into the "itunes/media" folder to rebuild my music library. I beginning to wonder if I should just use "migration" to get back on track with my iTunes, considering my account info stuff, playlists, etc.
I am still only slightly concerned because I was running OS 10.5.8 on the previous and now running 10.6.2. I don't want to, if it would, revert back to an older version of itunes. Would this be a set-back or a quick update fix away, once migrated.
Would you recommend migrating the old iTunes or trying to more or less drag/copy media into the new one? If so, how to go about doing this, without manually "opening" each file/song so it imports into the itunes library?
    Thanks, Chris

Just copy \Music\iTunes\ folder from the old computer to \Music\ on the new computer.

  • ITunes 7 = memory hog?

I've had a lot of the same problems people have already brought up so far; sound playing at 2x speed, stuttering/scratchy audio being the major ones, although I've only had one or two instances of each. The thing that concerns me is how much RAM iTunes now seems to use.
On average, iTunes 4, 5 and 6 never took up more than 45mb of RAM; it had a small footprint and ran efficiently. iTunes 7 seems to average anywhere between 60mb (on a good day) to 100mb, and at one point last night I caught it eating up a whopping 200mb of RAM, something that I don't expect to see outside of the Adobe Creative Suite 2 programs or a few computer games like WoW and Half-Life 2. Even when minimized to the system tray, it can be eating up close to 90mb.
Needless to say, this is ridiculous and so far as I'm concerned it's unaccaptable. Apple, please release a patch and get all of this stuff tightened up. Has anybody else been experiencing this with iTunes 7?

I posted this in a seperate thread, but I thought, and was recommended that it may be more appropriate here...

    1 GB of RAM
    256 MB Nvidia 6200 AGP

I decided to keep a CacheMan 5.5 logfile so I could see how iTunes 7 with Album View was affecting my physical RAM usage. The program began with iTunes in "List View", my standard operating system setup (widgets, Outlook, chat prgrams, etc...), as well as CacheMan and Task Manager running. The results were staggering... • ITunes is hogging 100% of CPU. Tried "netsh winsock reset" fix already

I recently upgraded to 10.5 and iOS5. I had a similar problem to many in the community related to the sync getting stuck in the "back up" portion, so I tried the solution proposed by a bunch of people re: "netsh winsock reset" and I can now sync, but I still have the issue of iTunes and APSDaemon hogging nearly 100% of CPU. Anyone else having the same problem? Any insight would be appreciated. Thanks

I'm having similar problems after the 10.5 upgrade on Vista. Tried the repair option in Control Panel, then uninstalled and did a fresh installation thinking it might have been due to the Apple upgrade installer but I'm still having the same problems. I've got 3gb of RAM but I can't even do something like writing an email at the same time as using iTunes without it beeping at me.

  • Itunes makes my comp freeze

I just bought my first ipod a few weeks back. I downloaded itunes and moved all of the music off of my computer onto my itunes, then synced it to my ipod.
Now, when I try to open itunes - it opens but then freezes. It keeps saying it's analyzing my songs, but it never finishes!
I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling itunes, however whenever I redownload it, it pulls up with all the same music and does the same thing. I'm starting to go nuts, I just want to add more music to my ipod!

i would double check and make sure your computer meets the minimum system requirements to run itunes. Then i would make sure you don't have any uneccessary programs running in the background. Itunes take a lot of computing power that most don't notice. My new laptop has problems running itunes and several browsers--and it can run multiple low level programs--just not itunes and another power hog program.

  • Ipod not showing up in Windows/Itunes

when i connect my ipod nothing shows up in my computer. I get an autoplay message that says, "what do you want windows to do.." but there is nothing in the list. And when I hit okay, the ipod doesnt show up in itunes. Once in a blue moon it does show up in itunes and i get a message that says the ipod is corrupted, but as soon as i click okay the ipod disappears from the list in itunes. I have reinstalled itunes, set power management to always let the USB have power, restarted, ect ect. But nothing so far. The ipod hardware itself cant be the problem because it comes up fine in my firends computer. Could it be my computer?? Idk thx! Also this just started happening w/ the new update of 7.0 in itunes...

Try the new shuffle reset tool.

  • Macbook Air Ethernet USB Adapter an Energy Hog??

    Hey to all,
Recently picked up a MBA and am very happy with it. The only problem I've had is if I connect the USB Ethernet adapter (to get wireline ethernet at a few places where there is no wireless) my battery times are DRAMATICALLY reduced (by like 40%). Does this make any sense?? This happens even despite relatively light Internet surfing (checking email, etc.) I would have expected that hooking up the USB Superdrive (which is powered by the USB port) would have a big effect but the USB Ethernet adapter?
Is the USB port an energy hog? Any techies can explain this in layman's terms?
    Thanks,
    JLC

I don't have one but I'm not surprised. The ethernet will need to be powered whether there is an traffic going over it or not. So I don't think whether you are light browsing or transfering GBs of data that it matters much as far as powering the port is concerned.
I would suspect the Superdrive is a significantly larger power hog, but I would expect a reasonable amount of power loss by using the ethernet adaptor. 40% is higher than I would have expected but it doesn't seem like a huge surprise.

  • Samsung CLP300 prints via old G4 Power(10.4) but not with MacBook (10.5.5)

I bought an Airport Express so I wouldn't have to keep my old power-hogging G4 running as a print server. If I try and print wirelessly to my Samsung CLP300 printer with the G4, it works fine. But when I try and print via my MacBook (10.5.5), the print queue just stalls at a certain percentage. The only solution I've found is to unplug the Airport Express and then plug it in again, but schlepping up to my 3rd floor and waiting 5 mins for the Airport Express to start up can be a real PITA.
    Any solutions?

I'm also having issues with Airport Express 802.11b/g, firmware 6.3 that used to worked fine with my Brother MFC-2040 in 10.4 but now struggles in 10.5 with my new Samsung SCX-4300. Like you, it will print one job fine, then it stalls on the next. Printer dialog shows "Printing page 1, 14% complete..." Then it gives up and the dialog shows "Printer Paused". When I resume the printer and resume the job, an error message pops up, "Operation Could not be completed. client-error-not-possible". But when I click OK, the dialog returns that shows "Printing page 1, 14% complete"
I reinstalled the latest printer driver (1.2), deleted the old printer profiles and created new ones for the printer, and followed the directions on the Airport printing troubleshooting guide. I had no problems printing on a Brother MFC-2040 with OS X 10.4. I suspect this is a Leopard issue. Any thoughts?

  • Dual-USB External DVD/CD RW 'drawing too much power'

    Hello,
I had to make an emergency purchase down my local electrical store because my internal drive has stopped working properly. So, bought one of these: (http://cnmlifestyle.com/) DVD/RW that is supposed to be mac compatible. It has two USB connections - one for power & another for data I presume.
When I plug it into a USB port, a dialogue box appears saying 'Because a USB device was drawing too much power from your computer, one or more of your USB devices have been disabled.' And so therefore there isn't any power to the unit... and it won't work.
This appears immediately after plugging one of the two in. When I plug in the second USB connection a second, identical dialogue box appears. If I connect then re-start, two of the dialogue boxes appear...
Might it be that this unit is not compatible with laptops? (there is no information about voltage on the unit).
    Many thanks,
    Jay

Optical drives have motors and that makes them power hogs. If it does not get power from its own power brick, it could be overpowering your USB bus, especially if you have other USB devices connected.
Have you tried swapping the cables on the Mac's ports? Some people report that the left- and right-hand ports produce difference power levels.
If the drive does not have a separate power source, it was designed for mobile use on a notebook computer but someone in Marketing was not thinking about power issues when trying to jump on the mobile bandwagon.
I see two solutions, the best listed first:
    1) return the drive for one that has a power brick self-powered)
    2) Purchase a powered USB hub (has a separate power brick). That way, the drive gets a lot of power from the hub. This one:
    http://eshop.macsales.com/item/Macally/TRIHUB4/
shows an ac adaptor is included
