ITunes a rip off

Today i brought 4 cd's for £20 (2 stones 2 led zep) from HMV,full lp's with plastic case and a booklet,iTunes want £7.99 each no plastic case and no booklet, when i got home i put the cd's onto my ipod and then put the disc's on the shelf for everybody to look at and read, haven't found away to do this with a download yet,i think people who rave about itunes it's a case of emperors new clothes.

Well I did not renew my i tunes match subscription at the first of the year because it is a flawed product. I'm sure Apple had good intentions but they never delivered the product they advertised. I will not bore you with the loss of much irreplaceable music gone from my library, and the money I spent to resolve the isuues I encountered thanks to my Match subscription.
My advice to you is to cancel your subscription to Match ASAP and let Apple know what a crappy product Match is.Good luck getting your money back, also.

  • Itunes gift rip-off

I just bought an album on itunes for my brother in France. But he can not download it as when he tries it says it os only valid in the USA>
I can neither fix this or get my money back. Seems like a rip off.

It's not a rip-off. It says quite clearly in the iTunes Store that gifts are valid only in the country of purchase. You cannot give an iTunes gift to another country. Your best option, and certainly the easiest, is to just redirect the gift to someone you know in the US:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1541
A refund may not be possible since the terms of sale for the iTunes Store state that all sales are final. You can contact the iTunes Store, explain the reason for your request, and ask, though:
    http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/contact.html
It's possible they'll make an exception for you.
    Good luck.

  • ITunes Plus Rip Off

Not saying it's Apple's fault...but why would I pay to upgrade my song, when, had I bought it (in one case) 2 weeks later, it would have been iTunes Plus and the same price? This makes no sense to me. I mean, I know the record companies are evil, but c'mon. Am I missing something here...or is this a complete rip off? Either way, I'm not paying over 100 dollars to upgrade my entire purchases at the 128 bit rate. I've been listening to them without any problems since I had them, though I would rather they be at 256. I also remember when iTunes Plus was 1.29 a song or something like that. So, I'm thinking with time, the upgrade will be free...or at least individually selectable. If not...I'm not paying for stuff I already own that's not increased in price.

I am glad I am not the only one who thinks this is a bit unfair. I don't think it is Apple's fault. Like you, I don't think it makes much sense. I have ~1500 iTunes songs. I purchased my first song around day 1 or so when iTunes first opened. Why would I spend $450 to upgrade these songs? I'd like to have the better versions. Absolutely, but $450 is tooo steep. I might pay a flat fee of $25 or $50 to upgrade all the older format songs when they become available. I might even pay $0.03 per song which is $45 in my case, but not $450.00! It makes no sense.

Total RIP OFF for old movies. Why oh why iTunes? Stop being so greedy and make older movies a more reasonable price. I would buy a lot more, it's just false economy in my book. Don't get me started on the difference in price with the US.
    Stop being so greedy iTunes!
Anyone know how I can get cheaper movies?

  • My iTunes got deleted off a (no longer working) computer. Is there a way I can transfer all content from my iPhone onto iTunes on a new computer? I want to update my phone, but do not want to lose any music off it when syncing it.

My iTunes got deleted off a (no longer working) computer. I have lost all music & data that was on this original itunes. Is there a way I can transfer all content from my iPhone (music & photos) onto iTunes on a new computer? I want to update my iphone (3GS), but do not want to lose any music off it when syncing it. Help please!!

By design, the iphone will sync itunes content with one computer at a time. Any attempt to sync such content with a second computer will result in ALL itunes content being first erased from your phone & then replaced with the content from the second computer. This is a design feature and cannot be overridden. Because you are using a new computer, your phone will see this computer as a "new" computer. The itunes content sync is one way: computer to phone. If you have photos that were synced to your phone or music ripped on your own that were not backed up, you will first have to extract them from your phone using third party software, before you do anything else, as Apple makes no provision to do so:
    http://www.wideanglesoftware.com/touchcopy/index.php
Once you've done that, do the following in the order specified:
    1. Disable auto sync when an iPod/iPhone is connected under iTunes>Preferences(under the edit menu if using Windows)>Devices in itunes.
    2. Make sure you have one contact & one event in the supported applications(Address Book & iCal or Outlook, Windows Address Book) on your computer. These entries can be fake, doesn't matter, the important point is that these programs not be empty.
    3. Connect your phone, iTunes running, DO NOT SYNC at this point.
    4. Store>Authorize this computer.
    5. File>Transfer Purchases(To make sure all purchased content on your phone will be in your itunes library).
    6. Right click in the device pane & select reset warnings.
    7. Right click again and select backup.
    8. Right click again & select restore from backup, select the backup you just made. When prompted to create another backup, decline.
    9. This MUST be followed by a sync to restore your itunes content, which you select from the various tabs, You'll get a popup regarding your contacts & calendars asking to merge or replace, select merge.
You should be good to go.

  • Why do Oz users get ripped off all the time.

Hi Can anyone explain why it costs $AUD16.99 an album or $AUD1.69 per song to buy music through the Itunes store in Australia when it costs $US9.99 to buy the same album ( or $US0.99) per song if you buy in the US. The current exchange rate is at around 95c in the $ so the price should be no more than about a $1.10 so Apple or somebody is making on average about 33% extra for every song sold in Australia. This is discriminatory and patently unfair. It doesn't cost Apple any more to service Australian clients than American and this price difference is unjustifiable on the evidence before me.

Which is precisely what I am doing. i will find a way to purchase direct from the US or UK. But I would still be keen to see some justification for the rip off apart from the "cause we can" mentality. Still doesn't make it right for Apple or the record companies if it is them that are setting the prices. Typical isn't it . The whole music industry's (ie the labels) approach to digital music right from the start - firstly fight it tooth and nail until such time as it is obvious you can't win so then change the rules and try and control it even more than ever before (DRM and sundry associated issues ) and again when even that is shown as a complete waste of time and effort introduce a pricing model that favours particular markets. And people wonder why people share music ?
And even the fact that your statement regarding different negotiated market access for different markets is a joke in itself. Why is a US consumer any more entitled to a cheaper price for music than someone in Brazil, Australia, Asia etc. Sure their market is bigger but with online music it is a global market with no respect to borders. So that argument would also be fallacious. Lets face it they do it cause they are getting away with it and they don't really give a toss about the consumer.
So you are suggesting that the costs of supplying an Australian consumer is 33% more than the cost for a US customer . Basically this works out that every third album you buy should be free or would be free if the prices were comparable.

  • Exchange rate rip off

I recently purchased an App for Aus$8.99 through iTunes then I saw on the web site that the real price was US$6.99. Today's exchange rate is Aus$1 = US&1.02. I complained to the App owner and they replied that the price charged by the App Store is decided by Apple.
Since December 2009 the exchange rate between the Australian and US dollars has been roughly 1:1 Apple is making a windfall profit of around 20% on Australian App sales. If this is repeated across all App Store sales it means that Australian app purchasers have been ripped off by hundreds of thousands of dollars over the past six months.
What happens to these windfall profits? And what comeback do we have other than a costly class action?
Maybe someone from iTunes is monitoring this forum.

Others have commented here on similar pricing discrepancies between Australia and US. My question is, why are you surprised? Prices have always been different for identical things in different areas of the world. There's no reason why the prices should be the same. Often there are tax and import regulations that make prices different on top of differential pricing based on what the market will bear. For example, [http://discussions.info.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=12432275]
What happens to these windfall profits?
Maybe somebody has a nice yacht? So somebody slaps on a $8.99 price. They could probably ask whatever they want (and would) except at some point people would just say it was too expensive. Hey, welcome to capitalism.
And what comeback do we have other than a costly class action?
Don't buy the app. I don't see that any legal action would have any basis. So, I buy a can of Fosters in France, and I buy a can in England. They have a different price. Unless one expects purely idealistic pricing by nice companies who only charge the difference in getting the can from Australia to France and England there will always be a difference. For that matter, there's a price difference in the two liquor stores near me.
Maybe someone from iTunes is monitoring this forum.
No. Except in very rare cases the only response you'll get here is from other Mac users like you. To provide feedback to Apple use the contacts link at the bottom of the page, but I think it extremely unlikely they will write back.

  • Match is a rip off

IRequiring Match to be switched on, even though we have paid, to get ad free Radio is a rip off.
    Why?
Because if you want to listen to Radio with cellular data (not much data required) you are also agreeing to Match over cellular which can suck data like you won't believe.

I don't believe I am missing your point. I belive you may be misunderstanding how the two services work. iTunes Radio uses the same source files that iTunes Match does to match the tracks in your iTunes library: iTunes Store files. So the amount of data to be used will be the same for a song whether you are listening to iTunes Radio or a matched track from the cloud.
You can submit your polite feedback to Apple at this web page: http://www.apple.com/feedback/itunesapp.html

  • Double debit €1.98 - Ripped off

I have just created an account so that I could purchase an app for a friend (9.99).  I then receive three e-mails form my CC company informing me that the following amounts were debited :
    1.98 - ITUNES.COM/BILL ITUNES.COM LUX
    1.98 - ITUNES.COM/BILL ITUNES.COM LUX
    9.99 - ITUNES.COM/BILL ITUNES.COM LUX
These are debits, not tests.  I am not surprised apple have more money than god, if every time someone purchases something they charge nearly 4 euros for the privilege.
This is the first time I have tried the i-tunes store.  It will also be the last.
    What a rip-off.

I suspect you will find the first two items will end up either with a matching refund, or else will evaporate from your credit card history as if they had never happened.

  • I feel like I got ripped off with one song, they won't resend it.

I feel like I got ripped off from i tunes,   i ordered three songs July 4th and only 2 and d1/2 came through.
The one I am missing totally is My Prayer with Josh Groban and Charlotte Church.   I only have one minute of it and then it stops.
How cheap can a company be???
It will make me think twice from now on.
I did notify them more than once and they sent me a note with a bunch of sites to read.\
I was almost completely finished with one site, but I do not know what i tune number I have,5, 6, 7, 8, 9 10 etc
That should not be an issue,  I have been taken advantage of and that is small on the part of APPLE not to resend it with no other beggin on my part.

Calm down.  Not sure why you are so bent out of shape.
Delete the song and redownload it:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store

    Over react much?
Check your purchase history.  See if it actually charged you twice.
If it did then contact itunes support for a refund.
