ITunes Account Authorization Issue

I'm hoping someone can help me solve a problem I have been having with iTunes over the past month or so. When I upgraded to 7.0.2 it seems as though iTunes will no longer let me play any of my purchased songs that were purchases via my previous account ID. Has this happened to anyone else? This has effectively removed roughly 400 songs from actually being playable. They still show up in my Purchased folder, however when I select one of them, I am given the "Authorization" screen. When I put in the password for the old account (as it is asking for it) I am told the ID no longer exists?
I hope someone can help? Thanks in advance!

This is what I did to solve the problem:
removed iTunes 7
deleted the iTunes Library file in Music ---> iTunes folder
reinstalled iTunes 6
reimported the songs (from the iTunes folder)
But, I've also read that installing Quicktime 7.1.3 will solve the problem. I'm not brave enough to re-install iTunes 7 again.

  • ITunes PC authorization issue

I just purchased a new PC and downloaded iTunes. I deauthorized all of the computers that had access to my iTunes accout. I have since gone and reauthorized my current PC, however, I keep getting getting a message that says this iPhone is not authorized to access this iTunes account. Again I have authorized this PC. Also, it shows in my account on the store that my iPhone has access and that there is one computer authorized to access my account, but when you go to manage devices, only the iPhone shows up. Please advise.
    Thank you.

The exact message is "The iPhone ______'s iPhone could not be synced because this computer is no longer authorized for purchased items on this iPhone.
To authorize this computer for items purchased from the iTunes store, choose Store> authorize this computer.
Again, I have authorized this computer yet it still will not work.
    Thank you.

  • Help! 2 logins, 2 Accounts - authorization issue

    Hi,
I'm trying to help a friend here. He and his wife have separate logins on their PC. Each login has iTunes installed. Each user has their own iTunes account.
Their problem is this: when one of them logs in and uses their account, it deauthorizes the other users account. Then, when the 2nd user authorizes their accoount, the first one gets deauthorized. So, any iTunes purchases they have made become a bit troublesome, asking to be authorized.
Is there not a way in which both users can authorized? I thought that authorization was for up to 5 computers. For computers, should that read 'accounts'?
    Thanks

  • IPhoto slide show not able to open Itunes library - Authorization issue

When I open Itunes, i can play all my purchased music fine. But when I open IDVD or an IPhoto slide show that uses purchased music, it constantly asks to authorize the computer to play the song again. Its to the point where I cannot even open idvd without that authorization window coming up over and over again making it impossible to use those applications at all! Iphoto slideshow won't even open my library since my first song is a purchased one!
    What is going on?
Also...Now i am using up all my authorizations to play these songs and I just have three computers!!!

    Hi Abigail,
Upgrade your Quicktime to the latest version.
You are not using up your authorizations so don't worry. When you get to the limit, you have the opportunity to de authorize all computers and you can then authorize just the computers you want again.

  • 1 computer, 3 Mac OS user accounts, iTunes account for each Mac OS user, authorization problems

We have 4 computers for 3 people in our household: 1 iMac (recently purchased), 1 MacBook Pro, and 2 MacBooks. We were previously running off of just the MacBooks (1 for each person), but we decided to buy the iMac and use it as a hub for all of our pictures, music, movies, etc. We were sold on this idea after learning about the "Automatic Downloads" feature, where all content would 'just sync'. We each have a separate Mac OS user account on the iMac, with our own separate content libraries. We each have a separate iTunes/AppStore account. It seems like a good idea until...
When I tried to turn on Automatic Downloads in iTunes on my iMac, I got this message: "You can auto-download purchases on this computer with just one Apple ID every 90 days. You cannot associate this computer with a different Apple ID for 87 days". I tried to turn on Automatic Downloads on my MacBook Pro, when I got this message: "You can auto-download purchases on this computer with just one Apple ID every 90 days. You cannot associate this computer with a different Apple ID for 90 days". I did not necessarily want to download the apps/music/books to this computer anyways, as the reason we bought the iMac was to serve as a hub for all of this content, but it was still frustrating to see that message.
I have tried everything suggested on the authorization troubleshooting pages and forums (e.g., authorizing, de-authorizing and de-athourizing all, and reauthorizing), but I have not had any success. I have contacted Apple several times, but I get tips on how to ensure that I have the most up-to-date version of iTunes on my computer, or how to manually download pre-purchased content. I will not begin to explain how frustrating these low-level responses are when the issue is much larger.
I have a few theories of why this is happening, one of which is that we will only be able to authorize one of the users iTunes accounts to this iMac (despite the fact that we are using separate Mac OS user accounts). This may be the case if iTunes authorization identifies or registers the computer based on its serial number (or some other unique identifier), rather than the Mac OS user account. If that is the case, then I suspect that purchasing this iMac as an automatic download hub for 3 separate Mac OS users was pointless, and I will gleefully warn anyone away from trying to do that.
So my question(s) read(s): How does iTunes account authorization identify/register with the computer? Is it authorized to the computer serial number, or could it be authorized to a Mac OS user account?
However, if my above theory is true, then my question is: Do I have any other options?
    Thanks!

I just had this problem because I logged into a friend's account on the computer I'm on now, and used the Previous Purchases feature. Well, that in turn deactived my use of the iCloud and iTunes Match on this computer when I signed back into my personal iTunes account. iTunes Support was no help, they just gave me a scripted response I would find online myself. Tried many different things, but what actually worked, was changing the Computer Name on this computer, and rebooting. Now, iTunes recoginzes this computer as a new device, yet, still is one of the 2 authorized computers on my iTunes account. Try changing the Computer Name on your troubled machine, then try associating it once again, see how that works out for you.

  • HT1918 How to report fradulent charges on itune account?

I saw many complaints about fradulent charges on appstore. I wanted to add my problem to the same track but did not know how..so here it goes: I just had my account charged by "Big Fish Game, Inc" for "Empress of the deep 2: songs of the blue whale" for $6.99. I never made this purchase. I went to my account to report the problem...after clicking report a problem on the $6.99 charge, apple take me to appstore support & i can't find anywhere to simply lodge a fraudulent charge claim & ask for a refund. Can anyone on this forum please help? I have already changed my password 2 days ago when there was a $1 hold put on my credit card by appstore.

What billing problem are you having ?
If you have a card on your account then it needs to be valid. If you are trying to add a credit card (I don't think that debit cards are still accepted as a valid payment method) then do you get any error messages when doing so ? It will need to be registered to exactly the same name and address (including format and spacing etc) that you have on your iTunes account, be issued by a bank in your country and for you to be in that country.

  • I cannot authorize my iTunes account

Everytime I get onto itunes it asks me to authorize my itunes account. I enter my password and it says The required file was not found or has a permissions error. Correct this permissions problem and try again, or deauthorize this computer if the permissions cannot be changed. I cannot figure out how to fix this issue!

I am experiencing the same problem. I just received my computer back from mac cafe and they fixed all my hardware issues, now i cant get itunes to work correctly. I'm a DJ and itunes plays a huge roll in that and i DJ in 2 weeksPLEASE let me know if you find out anything!!!??!?!?!??!?!?

  • Authorization Issue: Store says 2 Comps Authorized iTunes says 5 Comps

The Problem: When I log into my iTunes account and go to my Account Information, I see that I have 2 Computers Authorized. However, when I go to play a song that I have purchased, I get prompted to log into my account in order to authorize my computer to play content. When I log in, iTunes tells me that I have 5 out of 5 computers already authorized and I cannot authorize any more.
What I've done: I've deleted my SCInfo file as I've read in the troubleshooting guide. I have had Window's UAC setting turned off since day one of my Windows 7 Install, and I have verified that it is still turned off currently. I have also had this problem in the past numerous times and have only been able to get around this issue by reinstalling iTunes all together, and on one occasion I had to reinstall Windows all together.
I have bought my **** music, I just want to play the crap that I have legitimately purchased!! These kinds of consistent issues make me want to stop playing by the book. Or at the very least stop using the iTunes Store for my purchasing needs.

I have not been able to play some of my previously purchased songs in my iTunes library for a few months now. It then says that I need to authorize my computer, but an error message of 42408 pops up. How can i authorize my computer when it won't let me even do that to play songs, purchase new songs, or sync my iPod. The apple support people are of no help either. All they did was deauthorize all of my computers & now i can't reauthorize any of them. This problem ONLY started when i upgraded to the latest version of iTunes and they don't know how to fix it even though this is their product.

  • Authorization Wars on iTunes account

I've Googled and checked archives here on this issue but haven't found an answer. I restored my iTunes library from dvds burned from the previous mac when I began to set up this new computer. But the older purchased iTunes music requires a password for an old account to play, when I enter the password I get a flag saying that more than 5 accounts have been used and it must be deleted. I entered the password, clicked on 'deathorize', and it says 'this account has not been authorized'. So I can't play music from this account, and can't find a way to delete it successfully. There must be something simple I'm missing on how to do this. What should I do? Thanks

Deauthorize all then authorize what you need.
See this -> bout iTunes Store authorization and deauthorization
"*To deauthorize all computers associated with your account*
If you find you have reached 5 authorizations, you can reset your authorization count by clicking Deauthorize All in the Account Information screen.
1 - Click iTunes Store in the menu on the left side of iTunes.
2 - If you're not signed in to the store, click the Account button, then enter your account name and password.
3 - Click the Account button again (your ID appears on the button), enter your password, and then click View Account.
4 - In the Account Information window, click Deauthorize All.
Note: You may only use this feature once per year. The Deauthorize All button will not appear if you have fewer than 5 authorized computers, or if you have used this option within the last 12 months."

  • Need help with Itunes Authorization issue

I've been a Itunes/Ipod user for a couple years. During that time, I've sure spent over $500.00 on Itunes music from the Itunes store for my Ipod. My daugter and I both have Ipods.. There have only been 2 machines with Itunes installed here but I occasionally rebuild my computers to have the latest and greatest hardware for my business.. The other day I backed up all my music and data before rebuilding my machine due to hardware upgrades. Everything went smoothly including importing my purchased music back into Itunes.. The problem is I can't listen to it now. When I try to double click a song I get an error that says "You have already authorized 5 computers with this account. To authorize this computer you must first deauthorize one of the other computers" This isn't possible because the computers aren't around anymore to deauthorize. They were all housed (except 1, my daughters pc) in the same case as I have now.. Please respond...

The other day I backed up all my music and data before rebuilding my machine due to hardware upgrades.
okay. you may have ended up with multiple authorisations on that PC due to the system changes. if so the following documents should be of some help with techniques for freeing up authorisations:

  • Can I authorize more than five computers on one iTunes account?

Can I authorize more than five computers on one iTunes account?  I have several PC's being used as HTPC's and I'd like to use iTunes on all of them.  My three iPhones and three PC's have taken up all of my authorizations.  If I need to create a second iTunes account, can it be linked to my existing account?

I have 3 iPhones, one iPad and 2 PC's, all using the same iTunes account.  I want to be able to have each iPhone keep their own list of accounts and music list and the I pad different as well.  I want to 2 PC's music list to match.  How do I do this?
Additionally, when I connected iPhone #3 to one PC, it removed the contacts from #3 and replaced it with contacts from iPhone #2.  How do I get those contacts back and prevent this from happening again?

    Hey joshuafromisr,
If you resintall iTunes, it should fix the issue. The following document will go over how to remove iTunes fully and then reinstall. Depending on what version of Windows you're running you'll either follow the directions here:

  • ITunes account issues

So....I have some questions about iTunes home sharing.
My family backs up our main iTunes library to our 27" iMac, with the majority of the tracks being saved onto an external hard drive. I have a 17" MacBook Pro that I take with me to work every day-can I still sync it to a Home Sharing with my iMac at home? It would only be connected to the network at night. And if so, how is this different from having it connected permanently to the network with my iMac?
Also-can a Home Sharing network use multiple iTunes accounts? Me and my dad have different iTunes accounts (for password and download reasons), and it would be excellent if we could sync both of their music/app purchases to the Home Sharing.
And finally, if we can't use multiple accounts, how hard would it be to merge our two accounts together?
Any support would be greatly appreciated.

I have recently purchased a new lap top. Both my wife and I share our Itune music. When I purchesed the computer I was able to authorize my itunes account on it and move my purchaced music over from my iphone. However, I was not able to move my wifes music over because she has too many devices authorized under her account. Most of those computers are no longer in our possession and have been thrown out. How can she deauthorzise computer we don't have in our possession anymore without deauthorizing them all?

Authorizing deauthorizing has NO effect at all on your itunes library.  You lose nothing.
You should also alwasy have a backup copy.
    You MUST deauthorize all.
You have the only answer there is.
