ITunes Account - Moving from old PC to new Mac

Bit of a technophobe here. Have an old Vista PC with iTunes and old iPod. I have a new MacBook, which is sitting in its box at the moment and hoping to get a 3G iPhone on Friday.
Is it possible to move my account from my PC to the Mac? I would also like to move the music library across to the new Mac. Is this possible? What about the songs I have purchased through the iTunes store?
Thanks very much in advance.

Is it possible to move my account from my PC to the Mac?
You can have up to five computers authorized to one account. Just go to Store> Authorize Computer. If all you have is the one Vista machine and the new MacBook, you still have 3 left to authorize. However, if you're not going to be using the Vista machine, you cand de-authorize it by going to Store> Deauthorize Computer...
I would also like to move the music library across to the new Mac
If you like, you can use your older iPod to transfer your music to your new computer as outlined in this article: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1329?viewlocale=en_US
Good luck!

  • How to get itunes library moved from old computer to new computer?

I have an ipod with itunes set up on an older pc. Recently purchased a laptop and migrated all of my info from old pc to new laptop (windows 7 format). They are listed in a separate file under 'My Music'.
I downloaded the itunes 9.1 to my laptop.
Now, how do I get the music files over to the itunes program?

Or from within iTunes go to File>Add Folder To Library. Then select the folder that contains your music and iTunes will do the rest.

  • Transferring iTunes TV shows from old PC to new MAC

I recently purchased the a brand new MacBook Pro in mid-July. I would like to know how to get the TV shows I bought through iTunes on my old windows laptop to my new macbook pro. I have the same account pulled up that I purchased them with, but it says only one machine is authorized to play purchases. How do I authorize my new machine, and is there a way to recover my old TV shows purchased and add them to my new iTunes library?

To authorize your new computer, open iTunes and under the menu for Store (not actually in the iTunes Store) select Authorize Computer.
Do you still have the old windows laptop with your files on it? If so, you need to move them to a thumb drive or burn to a disc and transfer them to your Mac. If you no longer have the laptop, hopefully you have the files synced to an iPod. If so, you should be able to transfer your purchases.

Well, I followed the online directions for moving my ipod library from an old pc to my new mac. It says files have been copied and now I see all the song files in the music folder of my new mac, but they won't show up in i tunes....what's up?
Afterwards, I also restored my ipod for a mac and erased everything...so hopefully I havn't screwed up and lost everything! If I had to do the process over, I guess now I can't go back to my old pc and re-do it, right?

  • Moving iTunes 11 library from old PC to new PC

    Re:  http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4527
I thought I had followed these instructions.  My old computer did not have enough hard drive space, so I consolidated to the external hard drive.  All my music appears to be there.  I then moved that folder to my new computer.  I can see and open through Windows "my music", but iTunes is not opening that file.  Instead it opens only my "cloud" songs.
    Any suggestions?

Copy the ENTIRE iTunes folder from the old computer to the new computer.
On the new computer, hold SHIFT while launching iTunes and point iTunes to the location of the iTunes folder containing the iTunesLibrary.itl file.

  • Can't get my iTunes music from old PC to new Mac through iCloud.  Can't I just log in to iCloud to see music?

I mave iCloud set up through my new iPhone 4S.  Yesterday I got my new macbook and I can't get my iTunes to transfer to my new mac from my old PC using iCloud.  Are you supposed to be able to do this?

From things you are saying, such as "shared folder" and having both machines on, it doesn't sound to me like you truly moved the whole iTunes collection.

do not confuse moving your whole folder and library with moving just media files as in
iTunes for Mac: Moving your iTunes Media folder - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1449
Quick answer if you let iTunes manage your music:  Copy the entire iTunes folder (and in doing so all its subfolders and files) intact to the other drive.  Start iTunes with the option key held down and guide it to the new location of the library.

  • Transferring account files from old MacBook to new MacBook Pro.

I have an '06 MacBook and just purchased a new MacBook Pro this afternoon. When I was setting my new MBP up, I chose the option to move files later with Migration Editor through a Time Machine back-up. However, when I did this, it created another account(or copied my old account) instead of simply adding on to my new one. I've seen similar questions and problems on here and other mac forums, but I'm still unsure of a few things. When I logged into my moved account on my new MBP, it gave me the option to update. On my old MacBook, I had upgraded to Snow Leopard, so it was as up-to-date as it could be. After completing these updates, this moved account appears to have everything that the new account has, such as FaceTime (One app that my MacBook didn't have) along with all of my old files.
I've seen people ask about merging accounts and such, but it seems that that's not possible. So I guess my question is, would it be okay for me to delete the new account I made when I booted up my new MBP? Will I lose anything? It seems like that shouldn't be a problem since my moved account appears to have everything the new account had along with all of my old files and such. I'm just a bit paranoid about deleting the new account and then later on finding out that the moved account doesn't have all of the new stuff like I thought.

It is possible to merge accounts but it is not easy nor foolproof. The easier solutions:
    1. Remove the account made in Setup Assistant and change the username on the migrated account.
See Mac OS X- How to change user short name or home directory name.
See Macworld | Changing the short username in Leopard - use the last procedure, "The Full Monty."
    2. Log into the migrated, renamed account and delete the account made in Setup Assistant, then re-migrate your data.
