ITunes Activation Problems - Can't buy Songs from iTunes Store.

I can connect to the iTunes store fine using the 3G (basic setup was done at the Apple Store) yesterday. However, I can't buy anything because it doesn't recognize my Apple ID (which I used to activate the iPhone at the Apple store).
There is no mention anywhere of having to first sync the iPhone with iTunes on the computer, and while it shouldn't NEED to sync with iTunes first in order to recognize my Apple ID (since as I said, I entered it during activation of the iPhone itself), I am beginning to suspect that the reason that the iTunes store doesn't recognize my id is because I have not yet syncronized with my computer. I would like to inquire if this is indeed the reason why, when I enter a perfectly valid Apple ID, it doesn't recognize it.
I am hesitant to try to snyc it at the moment since I have read that many are having trouble activating iTunes, and I don't want to screw up the phone. Any comments on this?

You may need to authorize your computer (through iTunes) before you can make purchases.

    Hey lightc,
If you are having an issue with iTunes not recognizing your iPad and iPod on your Windows computer, I would suggest that you troubleshoot using the steps in this article -

  • Can't drag songs from itunes onto anything (desktop, flash drive, etc.)

    This is weird.
All of a sudden, I can't drag songs from itunes onto the desktop, any folder on my hard drive, my flash drive, or my spare hard drive. On a health computer, if you drag a large number of files, first they land as white icons and they fill in as they get transferred. With my computer, the white icons stick around for a few second and then disappear. The first time I try, I can transfer 1-10 files successfully. After that it stops working. Here is what I've done.
1] Upgraded my system from 10.3.X to 10.4.5
    2] I upgraded itunes from 7.0 to 7.3.1
    Has anyone seen this before?
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks!
    Jeff

Since I can not edit my own post I'll have to reply to myself... Sorry for the "spam" on the forums.
I DID find something out (while playing with this some more)...
Try and copy as many songs as you can with UNIQUE titles. I've noticed that when you drag the songs in iTunes to the desktop (or a folder) the file it creates/copies is named like so: "songtitle.mp3."
Apparently the Finder and iTunes don't play well together [enough] to prevent several files of the same name from appearing - in most OS's I've played with (Linux and Windows, in addition to other Apple & Mac OS's over the years) there's a mechanism for handling this... Windows just adds a number to the end the of the second (and all future occurring) file(s) of the same name - as does most Linux builds I've used... Apparently the Finder in OS X just doesn't do anything - at all - when it discovers this "name error."
What I had to do (I was copying my Christmas music - do you know how many "Jingle Bells.mp3" files you can have?!) was make many folders or manually rename EACH FILE one by one so that others could be copied in the same place since the file name would always be JUST THE SONG NAME and the extension (and I do tend to keep my files in higher bitrate MP3 format for easier shuffling from OS to OS as I tend to use (in case you've not noticed) many different ones at any given time).
So, try avoiding any songs with the same title (or altering the title in iTunes somehow), or make separate folders to keep the same song name files from being created in the same place; and see if that doesn't clear this problem up for you - it did for me. ^_^
    And sorry for being so "wordy" on this post. ^_^;

  • Can I buy mp3s from itunes ?

First time I used this forum so apologies if already asked. Can I buy mp3s from itunes ?
Fine for my ipod to have mp4a format aac or mp3 etc.. but for my car I use a USB stick which needs to be all mp3 format. Yes I can convert in itunes to mp3 format but that means I end up with two versions on my laptop.
If I just accidentally sync one non-mp3 format file to my memory stick then the car won't play anything on the **** stick !! Annoying.
So unles theres a way of getting mp3 thru itunes I guess its back to amazon for me for mp3 purchases - and then add the folder to itunes. Not ideal
    thanks in advance

But the question was Can I buy mp3s from itunes ? and my (correct) answer was no, you cannot! Specifically, the OP excluded the option to convert an AAC file to MP3.
I didn't mention the Import Settings, since it is in no way relevant to the OP's question. Despite your recommendation to marktko, I can see absolutely no reason to buy a song from iTunes, if the only intention is to convert it and then delete the original, having possibly paid more for it into the bargain. The conversion process may possibly introduce a reduction in the quality of the file, so why do it if you can buy the format you want and save yourself the trouble of the extra conversion work?
    marktko;
I am astounded that you have been won over by Brij011's arguement about paying more, converting, and then deleting the AAC file. Absolutely astounded!
Is there a hidden agenda at work here?

I have changed my apple id, and its ok when i sync my Iphone with Itunes, but ON my Iphone still my old apple-ID is there. I can NOT buy things from Itunes or Upgrade anything now, how to fix this?

I recently changed my email address and want to change my Apple ID account to match. I have created a new Apple ID to match the new account but now I can't sign into iCloud on our phones or computer with the old Apple ID. I can't make any changes on iCloud on our phones because it directs me to the old account, which I can't sign into. I also can't sign me in on my computer to make any changes. Help!!! Now I have two addresses and can't access the one that directly affects my devices.

  • How can i buy songs off itunes that you can't get on the Canadian version but you can in the u.k. version

How can i buy songs off itunes that you can't get on the Canadian version but you can in the u.k. version
I would really like to get these songs (not illegally like most people) because i really like them but they are only in the U.K. or Irish version of iTunes and I'm on the Canadian version
If anyone can tell me how i could possibly get these that would be great thanks

OS X is the same no matter where you buy it.  You can switch it to Japanese or one of 30 other languages in few seconds via the system preferences.
If you want a Japanese keyboard as well, you can select that when you configure your purchase:

  • Can you erase songs from iTunes, but keep them on the iPod???

Hi, I'm a newbie and tried to post this question earlier, but I'm not sure if it worked.
I'm wondering if there is any way to update your ipod, then take some of the songs on itunes, but still plug your ipod in later and keep those former songs on the ipod even if they're not on itunes. I'm thinking this isnt possible. But I wanted to make sure. I have limited HD space, but a 30GB ipod, so I was considering my options.
    thanks!
    angela

Set the iPod to sync manually; you can then delete songs from iTunes without them being deleted from the iPod automatically. You should keep another copy of the songs if you do this, as they can easily be lost if they are only on the iPod.

  • How can I buy music from iTunes?

How can I buy music from Itunes , when I have czech Itunes  and there is no offer itunes store for buying music. Could somebody express me, why is impossible for czech itunes to buy music or videos :-(((

If Apple doesn't have an iTunes store available in your country, you can't purchase anything from the iTunes store. In order to purchase content from the iTunes store available in another country, you must have a credit card or payment method with a billing address in that country.
