Itunes acts like fresh install always

When I upgraded, iTunes acts like it's the first time every time I open it. I have to sign in to the store again, go through multiple menus, etc. I did the systematic uninstall here. Re-downloaded, re-installed. Very frustrating...any thoughts?

I have a similar problem. Often, but not always, when iTunes initiates it acts like a new, first time installation. When it opens, I have to reset preferences and when synching Outlook I am told iPhone is synched to another account. NOPE, I don't have any other account or computer.
I appreciate any help.

  • HT201413 iTunes acts like I haven't reviewed an app.

I have reviewed several apps yesterday and today.  Once I write a review and click submit and leave the specific app page, the info I just entered disappears when I return to that app page.  It acts like I haven't entered any info into the boxes.  Does anyone have idea what is going on?

Was it purchased by that account, and is it still available in the store ? If it's been withdrawn from the store then you won't be able to re-download it

  • ITunes acts like I haven't installed it...

I don't know what the problem is, but it's gotten to where every time I open iTunes on my computer, I get the dialog you get when you first download iTunes asking if it wants me to use my WMA files, etc.
I've had iTunes for awhile, and I don't know what the problem is. When I connect my iPod, it always says that some of the content I have on my iPod isn't in my library, and it transfers over. That wouldn't be all bad, but it's consistently the same stuff that transfers over on a consistent daily basis whenever I open iTunes.
Did I explain that well enough? Can anyone offer any assistance to me?

  • ITunes acts like it's authorizing my computer...

but won't for some reason. after i "authorize" my mac, it says 1 out of 5 computers authorized. then when i try to play a purchased song, it wants me to enter my password to authorize my machine all over again. this is nutso...
also, it won't download the newest killers album, saying that the file isn't found. maybe the itunes servers are messed up at the moment?

I am having the EXACT same problem. It happened right after I bought the Killers Album... I bought it -- but I cant download it. I get an error every time. It asks me to authorize over and over. It appears as though it plays after - but no sound comes out...

itunes acts like its loading but never comes up and rarely when it does come up it freezes.

    Hello, jessykins25.
Thank you for the question.  This sounds like you will need to rebuild your iTunes library file.  Below, I have included the article that walks you through this process.  Start with the section labeled Re-creating the iTunes Library file.

  • ITunes 10.5.2 install failure

I have tried a number of solutions, and have looked over a wide range of help forums. All the methods I've tried have been unsuccessful, so I'll list them here in order they are not brought up again.
-I have tried the suggested "download manually" option that the Updater tells you to use.
-I have unistalled iTunes and all associate Apple software, then reinstalled iTunes as a fresh install.
-I have saved the .exe file, opened it via WinRar, and tried installing the .msi files independantly. All will install, except... AppleApplicationSupport.msi
When doing an install straight from the .exe, everything will proceed fine, except AppleApplicationSupport will not install. It will roll back the operation, then install all the other components correctly leaving an iTunes icon on the desktop. However, when you attempt to start iTunes, it informs you that it is missing the above file and to reinstall.
The error that is given during the install, when AppleApplicationSupport fails, is this:
An error occured during the installation of assembly 'policy.8.0.Microsoft.VC80.CRT,Type="win32policy".version="8.0.50727.6195".publ icKeyToken="1fc8b3b9a1e1&e3b",ProcessorArchitecture="x86"'. Please refer to Help and Support for more information. HRESULT: 0x...
I can run 10.4.1, and its install has no problems. I only encounter problems when attempting to upgrade or install 10.5.2.
    I'm running:
Windows 7 Home Premium x64 bit
    quad-core intel i7 processors @2.67 GHz
    9 Gb RAM
I also noticed people had brought up failed windows updates. Currently there is one update that fails to install no matter what I do.
-Security Update for Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Service Pack 1 Redistributable Package (KB2538243)
    Installation date: 12/30/2011 12:09 AM
    Installation status: Failed
    Error details: Code 643
Any help in fixing this problem would be greatly appreciated.

Hi.  My itunes 10.5.2 won't install either.  Im using an Apple macbook Pro. (It seems to be somthing with this laptop, as we have one exactly the same and it installed fine)
Does anyone have ideas on what I could try please?  Problem being computer is waiting forever to "install" and then just stays suck like that for days, (that's if I'd let it).  I wonder if it's got anything to do with authorisiation which also seems to have a bug:
    It reads :
"There was an error storing your authorization information on this computer. The required file was not found or has a permissions error. Correct this permissions problem and try again, or deauthorize this computer if the permissions cannot be changed."
I've tryed to deauthorize but it comes up with the exact same message as above.
Can anyone help pls with installing 10.5.2 Itunes?

  • ITunes moved to a new hard drive, now acting like a newly installed program

I just moved my ITunes to an external hard drive and followed all the directions to do so (did a google search and it lead me to this site where I followed the instructions outlined). Now ITunes won't work, it won't access any music whatsoever. In fact when I open ITunes it's appearance is that of the freshly installed program and no songs at all come up under music
I decided I had to have the space because I only have an 80 GB drive (C) and my music files occupy 52 GB of that (ITunes accounts for 2/3 of that 52GB total for some strange reason)
The new hard drive (F) is an HP Simple Save and that program backed up all my C drive information (including ITunes).
Then I followed the instructions I found on this site. I went in, identified the new folder, consolidated the files and nothing. When I restarted ITunes I got the screen above
So I tried putting ITunes back on the C drive and reset ITunes using the reset button under "Edit, Preferences, Advanced" and that still doesn't work. Not to mention I now have ITunes buried under a mountain of sub folders
I am at my wits end with ITunes. My first IPod was a gift (my seond I had to buy after washing my first)  but ITunes has been nothing but trouble the whole time and now this!!!!!!!
Can someone please help me????????????? I like my IPod, I on't want to have to get rid of it and buy an MP3 player that works with Windows

My Library files are still on the C drive as the instructions said to leave them there
While it is implied that I can move ITunes music files off my C drive to make more space
Quote: "If your hard drive is nearly full after loading all your music and other media into iTunes, or if you just want to move all those music and media files to another hard drive on your system, here's a way to make the move while retaining all your playlists, ratings, and play history."
In fact I now see that ITunes Help seems to suggest something different. I got here by pressing the question mark while in the pop up box for "Edit, Preferences, Advanced"
    Quote:
"By default, songs and other files you import into iTunes are placed here:
    My Documents/My Music/iTunes/iTunes Media
    Hide
To change the default location of imported files:
Choose Edit > Preferences, and click Advanced.
Click Change and select a new location for your files.
From now on, new songs and other items you import are stored in the new location. Songs you’ve already imported stay in their current location. (emphasis mine)
To restore the iTunes Media folder as the default storage location, click Reset (in the Advanced pane of iTunes preferences)."

  • Yesterday iTunes worked - today, it acts like it's newly installed (won't show any of my music or playlists) - what could have made it forget everything it knew yesterday and how can I fix it without having to redo all my previous work?

The title says it all.  iTunes was working fine last night.  I added some more music to my playlists and synched my iPod last night, then shut down.  Today, when I start iTunes it opens up a welcome to setup screen and acts like it wants me to answer questions to configure it for the first time.  When I cancel out of that, it opens up a normal iTunes screen that's completely empty of music and has none of my custom playlists (all the playlists it does show are empty) and it's asking me if I want to have it search my PC and add media files, as if it's newly installed and that's never been done.
Has anybody seen this behavior before, and is there some simple way I can fix it so it remembers all the stuff it knew last night, without having to start all over again and rebuild all my playlists and stuff?

For general library squiffiness following an upgrade the easiest thing is to restore your last backup, but I guess if it were that simple you wouldn't be here.
    Empty/corrupt library after upgrade/crash
Hopefully it's not been too long since you last upgraded iTunes, in fact if you get an empty/incomplete library immediately after upgrading then with the following steps you shouldn't lose a thing or need to do any further housekeeping. In the Previous iTunes Libraries folder should be a number of dated iTunes Library files. Take the most recent of these and copy it into the iTunes folder. Rename iTunes Library.itl as iTunes Library (Corrupt).itl and then rename the restored file as iTunes Library.itl. Start iTunes. Should all be good, bar any recent additions to or deletions from your library.
See iTunes Folder Watch for a tool to catch up with any changes since the backup file was created.
When you get it all working make a backup!

  • Fresh Install of iTunes and some Questions

I just did a fresh install, set up home sharing, and did an iCloud match so my whole library is in the cloud.  I have my library file stored locally but my music files on my NAS.  Here are my questions:
    1.  I want to install iTunes on my wifes computer, set up iTunes match for her, set up shaing.  She will have a "shell" setup where notjing is stored as she is sharing with me and accessing the cloud.  Do I need to set up that computer under my user id even though she has her own?  I figure thats the only way to get her to iTunes match that I have?
    2.  How do I do this all?  Meaning, I will have a local library file for her but I need to point her laptop to the NAS with the files on them.  If I change her iTunes media file to that location on the NAS and check keep organized, will it screw up the files I have there?  I noticed when I did that on my PC it moved some fles around and I had to reassociate lost files to songs.  Took hurs.  Would iTunes have done that automatically for me somehow?  Should I not check the keep organized for her as she will not be adding music anyhow?  What is the harm either way?
    3.  How do I see my pictures on my ATV unit?  I thought I used to be able to but don't see an "app" on the ATV to do so, just photo stream which I do not want to do.  I thought I used to be able to access the pictures stored on my NAS?  Am I dreaming this or did it go away?  My NAS is an iTunes server and I swear I used to be able to access them from my ATV?    All I see on my ATV under my library is music, podcasts and movies.
    4.  I have my NAS sharing (home sharing) and I can see it on my laptop with iTuenes installed.  When I click on it I see only music, no movies or anything else, why is that and is it something to do with home sharing?  But, like I said I can see thse movies on ATV under my library.  I can also see my playlists on the shared on my laptop but nothing is in them.  I think that may be becuase they were set up under another library and now that I hve a new library file, they don't carry over?  I don't see any of said playlists in the sttandard iTunes interface under playlists, just under the shared however like I said, no files in them.  Also, the share comes and goes as in sometimes I see it sometimes I don't however I am always able to access the NAS from iTunes.  Strange, may be network issues?
    5.  Along those same lines, sometimes the home share just up and dissapears from ATV.  Maybe a network issue?
    6.  Lastly, I just did my first backup/sync to my new laptop with the frsh install of iTunes on it.  It gave me some sort of message that I can only sync to one computer and do I want to overwrite or whatever?  I said no and it did nothing.  After that, I did a back-up however it seemed to go fast and I also did a sunc.  The sync was three steps, used to be like six and I did not notice any of my new apps being copied to it.  Something is wrong here but not sure what to do, ideas?
Thanks in advance for any and all help.

#4 - make sure you are sharing out all the items in your itunes library (music, movies, etc)
you should be able to do that under preferences
you may also want to check if it is pointing to the correct library
#1 - home sharing should work on the LAN w/out the need for signing in; the shared libraries should appear under "shared" in the left sidebar of itunes
think this may resolve the issues you have on #2 as well
#2 - itunes doesnt seem like it's built for that, but if you have any experience, i'd like to hear it.  this seems why home sharing is the usually the best route to go and just have one instance of itunes managing the library
but as long as the NAS or any media drives are shared out, connecting to it should not be a problem.  it's the writing to the itunes library that's the issue.  i haven't used Match so can't help there.
depending on your OS, you can either ctrl-click or option-click on the itunes icon,
which will also give you the option of selecting a library location upon launching itunes
you can navigate to the location of the library file and point it to that.
technically, you could do that but i believe the actual library has to be stored locally
as long as you still have all the media, then you can just rebuild the library
but for locally shared items, as in, all inside the home, i would leave icloud out of the equation
just use itunes sharing and it should be fine

  • Macbook acting wierd even after fresh install of OS

i've got a 13" macbook i've had for a couple of years. i've had no problems with it until about a month ago when it started acting weird. it was becoming very slow and crashed regularly when i tried to run simple applications like itunes or safari. even when i tried to shut it down, it sometimes gave me that message on the screen where it informes you to hold down the power button to shut down.
i decided to do a complete re-install of my osx to give it a fresh start. so having re-installed leopard, and with nothing on my hard drive apart from the pro tools and cubase programs i've re-installed (it won't be these as they're both legit programs that i've been using on this mac for 2 years), it still seems to crash and not shut down properly.
i've actually done another clean re-install a couple of days ago to see if this made a difference, but sti ll the same problems.
i was under the impression that any viruses or bugs that we're making my mac act weird would have been wiped when i done a fresh install of my os.
can anyone tell me where i'm going wrong?
    thanks

    It's not a virus.
The screen you see (that requests you to restart your computer) is referred to as a kernel panic; these are often hardware-related.
What you're describing sounds like a possible hard drive failure.
Have you run the Apple Hardware Test? Is your computer still under warranty?
Get your data backed up, if you haven't already, just in case!

  • How do I Bring iTunes Up-to-Date on Fresh Install of Leopard?

I have created a new, vanilla image of Leopard on a partition of an external HD to be run on my 6 year old iBook. I did this fresh install so I could essentially start over and only use what I really need on this aging, but still functional Mac. I am still running the old Leopard installation on this same machine. Once I get this Leopard, pure version, to where I want it, I will restore it to my iBook using SuperDuper.
Everything is pretty much where I want it except that when I try to sync my iPhone through iTunes, no backup occurs. This is understandable since the iTunes on this Leopard - Pure image has a fresh copy of iTunes on it. I thought it might backup whatever was there, but that is apparently not the case. I have turned all the other syncing functions off so what is on the iPhone now won't be erased due to the fact that that content doesn't exist in this version of iTunes. The only other thing of any significance in iTunes are my podcasts, which I can easily replicate. My music is on an external drive.
My question is, how do I go about getting iTunes to back-up my iPhone? Do I have to bring over the old version of iTunes somehow? That looks awfully complicated. I have looked and I can't do it using Migration Assistant just for iTunes. Without the backup I might very well loose my apps on the iPhone as well. What are my options at this point?
I know people have done upgrades starting essentially from scratch, so there must be a relatively simple way to do this. Am I missing something? I suppose that when the next update to iOS comes out, iTunes will recognize that what is one my iPhone is not current and the new version will download and everything can go forward at that point, but I'd like to get this working so I can use this image before then. I welcome your suggestions and comments.
    -Bill

The problem has been resolved. It didn't have anything to do with the 10.5.8 Combo Updater, which I did use when doing the Upgrade from Leopard to Snow Leopard. It may have had more to do with upgrading iPhoto from version 6 to version 9, though I tend to doubt that. In any event when I did select some albums to sync with my iPhone, the iPhone back-up step did precede the sync, so everything is working as desired. Perhaps I just needed to make another run at it.

    Hello Mogulman46,
So what that means is when you have Do Not Disturb turned on, you may have an alert depending on the setting and how you are using your iPhone. So if it is set to Always, then that means that no matter what, your iPhone will not be notified. If it set to Only while the iPhone is locked, then that means that you will not get notification when your iPhone is locked but you will get notifications if your iPhone is being used. Also keep in mind the settings All Calls From can be set to certain contacts like Favorites, Everyone or no one. If you are using Do Not Disturb and you do not need it, then turn it off.
Use Do Not Disturb on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

When I try to burn a CD off of my MacBook Air (from iTunes) using the external CD drive, it acts like it is burning the CD, but then when I try to play it the CD is blank.

    Many thanks for the diagnostics.
Failed while scanning for CD / DVD drives, error 2380.
Error while opening iTunes CD driver.  This could be caused by a corrupted iTunes file or a conflict with other older CD burning applications, either currently installed or previously installed and uninstalled incorrectly.
With that one, I'd start with solution 3 from the following document:
iTunes for Windows: Optical drive is no longer recognized, or "Disc burner or software not found" alert after install

  • I want to reinstall an app fresh install from iTunes not from my iCloud, I go to manage storage I stop backup and delete app by turning green button off, but when I ask to download it again from iTunes it is only downloading it from my iCloud. help?

I want to reinstall an app fresh install from iTunes not from my iCloud, I go to manage storage I stop backup and delete app by turning green button off, but when I ask to download it again from iTunes it is only downloading it from my iCloud.
    Please assist
    Thx

You don't really delete app that way, that way to stop backup for that app in icloud.
You need to delete it from your home screen and then while it still will look like download from icloud - app will start fresh.
However if app uses any account sign in the stuff that is attached to sign in will come back, so if you do not want to you need to use
    fresh account as well.

I have Calendar alerts on every device [Mac/iPad/iPhone] after installing Mountain Lion. How do I stop this? Tech support acted like I was the first person this happened to. Anyone have the solution?

Well, whichever device you uncheck = exclude from calendars (and reminders) via iCloud will be excluded as both, receiver and sender. It's an "all or nothing", I guess. Otherwise it'd get more complicated, and the support calls could easily fill an extra forum...
@lmp68: don't think iTunes is it, in the days of iCloud that would sure take quite an extra effort, if possible at all.
