ITunes Administrator Install Problem

I'm trying to upgrade to the newest iTunes version, but I keep getting a message that says, "Service ‘iPodService’ (iPodService) could not be stopped. Verify that you have sufficient priveges to stop system services." I'm just not sure what I need to do with my administrator privelages with Windows XP to get the install to work.

that can happen sometimes if the itunes installer is having a hard time shutting down either itunes or quicktime (or applications using quicktime) prior to the install. so let's try a "download, restart, then install strategy."
leave your ipod unplugged.
download and save a copy of the itunes installer to your hard drive. (do not run the install on line, and do not start the install by clicking on the iTunesSetup.exe (installer) file just yet.)
iTunes 7.1.1.5 Installer
shut down running applications and restart the PC.
do not open any other applications prior to attempting the iTunes install. switch off antivirus and antispyware applications prior to the install.
now start the install by doubleclicking the iTunesSetup.exe file.
does the install go through properly this time?

  • A different iTunes windows install problem: "validation"

am posting this for a friend of mine who has been using iT on his windows laptop for years.
He was trying to install the latest iTunes, and he downloaded it okay. When it started installing, he gets as far as the step "validating" and then it just stops - no error message or anything.
any clues? I see other folks have been having Windows iT install problems, but not exactly this one (there was no error message number).
(He's using a pre-vista version of Windows - could it be that the newest iT is only supposed to work with vista? I know nothing about windows.)

    Just a few quick thoughts.
    1. The newest iTunes does not work with Windows 2000.
    2. Some problems have been due to a display setting. To see everything the display setting (Changed through the Control Panel and/or Display) should be 1024 x 768.
    3. What specific error messages is he seeing?

  • ITunes 9 install problem: software for communicating with ipods not install

I downloaded and installed the update for iTunes 9 via apple software updater last night, and when I started iTunes I got the error "The software required for communicating with iPods and Mobile phones was not installed correctly. Do you want iTunes to try to repair this for you?" I click yes, and it says it couldn't fix the problem.
I followed the instructions here (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1923) to completely uninstall itunes and quicktime and all supporting components, including mobileme and bonjour and then reinstalled iTunes9 using the setup file downloaded from apple.com. Still no luck! I get the same error when I start iTunes.
any suggestions? Help! Should I go back to the older version of iTunes?
btw, when I uninstalled iTunes, I kept my library files and two plugins around: last.fm scrobbler and mmkeys. Does this matter? I don't think so: I tried removing the plugins and I still got the same error.
I'm running Vista 64bit, and I used the 64 bit installer.

For those using Windows 7 64-bit, I also experienced this frustrating installation error. However, tonight, I was finally able to install iTunes 9 without getting the communication message by setting the compatibility tab under the properties tab of the installer to the following settings:
    - check "run this program in compatibility mode for Windows Vista Service Pack 2"
    - check "run this program as an administrator"
    - launch the installer by right-clicking and selecting "run as administrator"
After selecting those options and also uninstalling iTunes and the Apple Mobile Device Support, iTunes 9 finally installed without any glitches on my Windows 7 OS.
Unfortunately, I don't have any advice for Vista users except for the already posted recommendation to use the 32-bit installer.

  • Win7 and newest itunes 64bit install problem

I have not seen my itunes installation problem here on the forum yet. I hope someone can help.
I completely removed Itunes per the Apple instructions, in the correct order, and verified all was gone from the computer. I downloaded the latest version for my 64bit computer (Win7), which currently is 10.5.1 for windows 64bit system. After installing it, I receive a message saying that "this ipod cannot be used because the required software is not installed. Run the itunes installer to remove itunes then reinstall the 64bit version of itunes.
I've done that no less than 4 times now, same message. Has someone a fix or idea for this problem?

Try to use 10.3 instead, the 10.5.1 dont work on all PC computers, I  couldent install the 10.5.1 but 10,3 installes without any problem. I have a  good cumputer so it is nothing wrong there so it is only a bad program from apple.

Click here and follow the instructions. You may need to completely remove and reinstall iTunes and all related components, or run the process multiple times; this won't normally affect its library, but that should be backed up anyway.

Ok, Below is what worked for me somewhat.
Okay ... try downloading and saving a copy of the iTunesSetup.exe to your PC from the Apple website:
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
Now download a trial version of WinRAR:
    http://www.rarlab.com/download.php
Open the iTunesSetup.exe with WinRAR, and try to run the standalone install of Apple Application Support from the AppleApplicationSupport.msi you find in there.
It works now BUT there are still problems.  It is not allowing or recognizing my Cd/DVD player and i CANT burn.  Looking still for this fix.

I completly uninstalled itunes and its associated programs as per recommend  on another thread and tried re installing from a different browser, (another recommended thread) everything seems to go fine with the reinstall but when it finishes and attempts to open itunes I get an error message that reads : Apple Application Support was not found.
Apple applicatiion  support is required to run itunes. Please uninstall itunes, then install i tunes again. Error 2 (windows error 2) Help I have uninstalled and installed numerous times!

Update I tried to install other updates and restarting and upon restart without clicking Itunes I get a  message that states the program can't start because CoreFoundation.dll is missing from  my computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix problem.

  • After multiple attempts to install Itunes 11 without problems I finally got it to work

About a month ago when updating to Itunes 11, I started getting errors that would not allow me to Install the update and then when I did the program crashed when trying to open.  After multiple removing/installing all the apple software per instructions found in these communities I finally came upon a solution that worked.  After getting itunes to install but getting a error when I clicked on the icon to open Itunes, below is the steps I found on another web site that actually WORKED and was able to update to new/greatest version and Itunes actually opened correctly when I clicked the icon. HERE is what worked!!....
Highlight all of the following 10 lines of text that begin with regsvr32 and then choose Copy from the Edit menu of your web browser:
    regsvr32 /s softpub.dll
    regsvr32 /s wintrust.dll
    regsvr32 /s dssenh.dll
    regsvr32 /s rsaenh.dll
    regsvr32 /s gpkcsp.dll
    regsvr32 /s sccbase.dll
    regsvr32 /s slbcsp.dll
    regsvr32 /s mssip32.dll
    regsvr32 /s cryptdlg.dll
    regsvr32 /s initpki.dll
Open the Notepad program by navigating to:
Start > All Programs > Accessories > Notepad
In Notepad, choose Paste from the Edit menu. Note: make sure that the text that appears in Notepad is the same as what is shown above.
From the File menu, choose Save As.
In the File name field type appleipod.bat and save the file to the Desktop.
Close Notepad and locate the appleipod.bat file.
Double-click the file and you will see a black window appear on the screen for about a minute. Wait until the window automatically disappears and proceed to the next step.
The appleipod.bat file can be deleted at this time.
    Hope this helps!

Hi , There are two very informative Mac threads that you may want to refer to. There really is nothing that I can add to them.
I don't know if they are still on Page 1 but if not try Page 2.

  • ITunes Install Problem with Shortcuts

Can iTunes be installed without creating any shortcuts? When I install iTunes it takes over EVERY shortcut on my computer. This occurs during the last few seconds of installation.

    Sorry about the delay, paul.
Okay, there's some other troubleshooting advice on that one in the following thread:

(Several possibilities are discussed, so have a read through the full thread.)

  • Can't open fresh install of iTunes (fresh install of Windows 7)

    Hi everyone,
Well this problem has my head spinning. I'm an IT troubleshooter so I've done a lot of various trailing already which I detail below.
Basically, we're looking at a brand new computer with a new installation Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit. I have installed the latest iTunes 64-bit however when I double click the icon it never opens. No error given.
Upon checking the Event Viewer I can see two corresponding Application Allerts:
    1/
Faulting application name: iTunes.exe, version: 12.1.0.71, time stamp: 0x54c76235
Faulting module name: iTunes.dll, version: 12.1.0.71, time stamp: 0x54c7621b
    Exception code: 0xc000001d
    2/
Windows cannot access the file  for one of the following reasons: there is a problem with the network connection, the disk that the file is stored on, or the storage drivers installed on this computer; or the disk is missing. Windows closed the program iTunes because of this error.
Upon research, a few people report error 2, however their error message always correctly identifies a file name (i.e., "Windows cannot access the file foobar.dll for one of the following reasons...."), and they are able to troubleshoot from there. As this error has a blank space for the filename I'm not so lucky.
    I have tried:
    * Starting iTunes in Safe Mode (no change)
    * Starting iTunes with a new library (holding shift) (no change)
    * Creating a new Windows profile and starting iTunes there (same problem) (both accounts have Admin rights)
    * Uninstalling iTunes and all other bundled Apple applications as per (Remove and reinstall iTunes and related software components for Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8 - Apple Support)
    * Downloading a fresh installation package and re-installing
    * chkdsk /f
    * sfc /scannow
    * Repeating the above with the antivirus application uninstalled
    * Repeating the above and running the installation file by specifically right-clicking and choosing to Run as Administrator
    * Running iTunes by specifically right-clicking and choosing to Run as Administrator
    * Repeating the above and installing to default location on C: (an Intel SSD)
    * Repeating the above and installing to D: (a Western Digital HDD)
    * Installed Quicktime and tested if this opens - it does. (Someone, somewhere suggested seeing if this worked).
    * Following the advice here (iTunes for Windows doesn't open after upgrading in Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8 - Apple Support)
I can confirm that with the above, I can delete the file and when I attempt to launch iTunes again the file is recreated but iTunes still doesn't open
There is ultimately an iTunes library that I'd like to re-import back in, but for now I've kept this out of the way until such time that I can open iTunes with a blank library.
I'd like to think my troubleshooting has been fairly exhaustive so far, but would also like even more to have a solution. If anyone can suggest anything it'd be greatly appreciated.
    Kind Regards,
    Gavin

I was having a similar problem and searched this forum for 2 days trying to find the solution...and couldn't!
I decided to solve try a few things myself.
I turned the SpyWare off first then . . .
1 . I opened the Register Editor, by typing in "Regedit" in the run application for XP or start search for Vista.
2 . I searched all of the files, around six of them, and deleted ALL quicktime and itunes folders.
3 . I then went into the Program Files on the hard drive C:\ and deleted the files iPod, iTunes and QuickTime.
4 . After that I went back to C:\ and went into Windows and deleted a file named QuickTime VR and all other QuickTime and iTunes files.
    5 . Restarted the computer
6 . Reinstalled ONLY QuickTime 7.4 from the website
7 . Reinstalled iTunes 7.6 from the website and it worked!
Hope this works, it was a nightmare to figure out and a hassle to do but it does work....for me at least!
    Good Luck!
