Itunes Album Artwork Question

Why does itunes sometimes display multiple album covers for one particular album?
It does not do this for all albums just some at random. These albums are not compilation albums either and have been performed by the same person.

I have noticed this on the Mac also. Especially noticeable when two tracks are next to each other in alpha order. This is a recent issue, as have not seen it until recently.
Perhaps is some confusion when iTunes looks for artwork and there are several versions of artwork at the search site.
Also had the problem of some older CD inputs not finding the cover art and having to go to Amazon to cut/paste their artwork and then manually putting into iTunes.

    another "get album artwork" question
I notice that when I click "get album artwork" it seems to go through the whole library and look for cover jpegs. (in my case, that's going to take a long time!)
here's my question: it's looking for artwork, yes, but it's NOT going to do anyything to the many, many albums for which I have already (manually) added artwork, is it? If it does - I am in trouble! Please, somebody, reassure me that the artwork I have painstakingly added manually to zillions of albums is safe!

    Updade...
So, as another test, I uninstalled iTunes, then checked the hard drive again.
All the icons have now turned into Quicktime icons, which leads me to believe that when you look at your music in finder, it shows the icons related to your default music player.
So, my next step is to find a new default player, and maybe my album covers will show up again.

Can I merge or combine 2 "album artwork" folders? I have saved music onto an external server from 2 computers but the artwork that I have manually imported remains in the default folder in the music/itunes/"album artwork" folder on their respective PCs.
i.e. artwork uploaded on one PC won't apppear on the other PC because it is saved locally...
I'm confident that i won't beable to just merge the 2 because thy'll have the same folder names.
On the same note: can I have iTunes create these files on the external server/Hard drive also so that either computer can use them at the same time?
(like I have my library- can the other files be saved remotely)
    Thx

    i'm using iTunes 10 BTW

  • ITunes and Album Artwork question on Mac with two users

Hey everyone, I have what I hope is a pretty simple question. Right now, on my iMac, I have 2 user accounts, one for me and one for my wife. I wanted us to be able to share all of our music, so when I was setting up the computer, I put the iTunes Music Library in a /User/Shared/Music directory. Then, inside iTunes, for both users, I pointed to this new library. Everything here works great. When I add a song under 1 user, I just have to go to Add to Library under the other user and the songs are added. Works fine.
My main question is about the album artwork. I recently spent a lot of time under my user account going through and making sure I have all of the album artwork for every song we have in our library. I never thought about checking this on my wife's account, but when I did I realized that all of the stuff I added is not there. Anyway, I did some checking and found out that the album artwork is stored in each users Music directory. I did some reading on the web, and what I did was move my album artwork folder to the /Users/Shared/ directory, then created a symbolic link in my user directory to the shared folder. I did the same in my wife's account. I thought this would do the trick but it hasn't changed anything. Can anyone help me out here? Thanks so much for your time.

The artwork is stored in Music/iTunes/Artwork.
iTunes handles everything in that folder when iTunes adds it to the database.
This info is maintained in the iTunes library file in the iTunes folder.
iTunes will not do anything by copying or pointing to the artwork folder in your folder.
Unless you are both using the same iTunes library file, you will need to get your own artwork.
I put the iTunes Music Library
Do you mean the iTunes music folder?
Here's a way to do what you want.
Move your *iTunes folder* to the shared directory.
Open iTunes holding Option and select *Choose existing library*.
Select the iTunes library file in the Shared directory.
    Everything should work fine.
    Quit iTunes.
Move the *iTunes music folder* from /User/Shared/Music directory into the *iTunes folder* you moved into the Shared directory.
    Start iTunes. Everything should work.
    Quit iTunes.
    Log into your wife's account.
Start iTunes holding the Option key, select *Choose existing library* and select the *iTunes library file* in the iTunes folder you moved into the Shared directory.
Everything should be there including all artwork.
Each user needs to quit iTunes before the other user can open it.
Shouldn't be a problem since you are using the same computer.

  • ITunes album artwork not showing

I operate a college internet-only radio station.  The system we use is based on iTunes.
Each week, music distributors send me links to download new music.  On average, I load about 20 albums per week into the system.  The files are usually .zip files, and contain a .jpg for album artwork, a .pdf with band info, and a folder containing the .mp3 files for the songs.  I unarchive the .zip file, then click-and-drag the resulting folder into iTunes.
About 1/3 of the time, everything works as expected.  The music is copied into the iTunes library and the artwork appears as well.  The majority of the time, though, the artwork does not appear in iTunes.
I've scrutinized these files, and am unable to spot any difference between the ones that work and the ones that don't.  The heirarchy of the unarchived files and folders is the same, the images are roughly the same size.
I know how to go back in and add the artwork, but doing so for 15 albums each week is extra work I'd rather avoid.  Any ideas why it works so inconsistently, and how to rectify that?
    mahalo!
    Tom G

I'm not so sure, but I don't think you can turn off artwork unless you erase the image files from the files in the Get Info feature you get in the list you get when right-clicking on the music files, what can be done tho is to hide the features that show the artwork like the button to the right of the repeat button and the cover flow button next to the search bar.
I have the same problem but only with certain artwork, not all, I added images to all my files before and hardly ever did I get this problem, I usually added the same image or another image to make the cover flow "react", so to speak; the funny thing with my problem is that the files in question still have the artwork I put before in the Get info thingy, they appear whenever I see the info tab of then files, and when they're playing, the image shows at the bottom of the playlists list(above the repeat button and that), but the artwork doesn't show in the cover flow (-- =S ???--), no notifications show up about what's happening, and the image file I added is just a regular .JPEG of an album.
Now does this mean the iTunes is having some sort of behavior issues or it just fancies playing with me? =S

  • ITunes Album Artwork is Tinted Green

This isn't a huge problem but I'm wondering if anyone knows how to fix this. Many of my album covers in iTunes (including songs purchased through iTunes and through my iPhone) are tinted green but only when viewing in the "Albums" view: if I pull up individual song info, the artwork is no longer tinted. I suspect that they may have just been processed or displayed with an incorrect colour profile. Album artwork appears fine on my iPhone which is synced to this same computer. Is there some solution to this or perhaps a way to delete and redownload all album artwork?

Ok that's weird. This was an old message that I had tried to post a long time ago but was getting the "You cannot create or update this content" message so gave up on it. I had come back to post a different question, was having the same problem, and then read another post about how you just need to select a community and fill in the rest of the boxes at the bottom to be able to post, so I did that and it posted this old message instead of the new one!
And now I can't delete this post. Great. Way to go Apple.

  • Why are my emojis and iTunes album artwork green

All the emojis and album artwork on my mac are green, I don't know how to change it back i don't even know what i did. It's really irritating me.

I tried posting my own version of this question but was restricted from doing so, thus I am bumping this similar problem.
Many of my album covers in iTunes (songs purchased both through iTunes on Windows 8.1 and through my iPhone) are tinted green but only when viewing in the "Albums" view: if I pull up individual song info, the artwork is no longer tinted. I suspect that they may have just been processed or displayed with an incorrect colour profile. Album artwork appears fine on my iPhone which is synced to this same computer. Is there some solution to this or perhaps a way to delete and redownload all album artwork? I removed all of my colour profiles on this computer, one of which I know had errors since Adobe Photoshop would always ask me whether to ignore the colour profile, and that did not solve the problem.

  • ITunes Album Artwork weirdness...

So, I've been spending quite a bit of time weeding out and reorganizing my music library, one category at a time, eliminating lo-res files, duplicates, and replacing missing album artwork. The other night, I finished with the Classical category, and proudly browsed and listened my way through all the shiny clean files. Everything was copacetic, each album correctly named and with it's proper artwork assigned. On several dozen of the albums I had myself assigned the artwork by googling the correct image and copying it into the album's artwork field. So far , so good...
Today, I opened the classical library again and noticed that many albums are once again missing their artwork. Many of the ones missing are those that I manually assigned. Bummer! Had to do it all over again. So now I'm wondering:
Beyond copying and pasting artwork into a song or album's "Artwork" field, is there anything else that needs to be done to make it stick beyond the currently open iTunes session?
Could the programming of the iTunes preference: to "Automatically Download Missing Artwork" have anything to do with the fact that primarily user-assigned artwork is "vanished"? Something to the effect of "If cannot find in <artwork database> then set "Album Artwork" to value=False...? Therefore, is it perhaps better to just leave it unchecked?
Note that the files in question are not pirated material - they were purchased either as downloads through Amazon and Deutsche Grammophon, or ripped (using iTunes!) from original CDs. The Amazon/DG downloads always came with artwork, which seemed to have vanished when the files were added to the iTunes Library...
I'd like to try and get this resolved before I proceed with the other categories. Call me obsessive if you will, but I happen to like browsing my music using the cover-art - it reminds me of the good old days . Thanks in advance for any suggestions, -o

The download folder holds images that have been downloaded from the iTunes store and associated with various files on your computer. Depending on how you embedded the images into your MP3's these might be in addition or you may be mistake in your belief that all your files have embedded images. If you delete the download folder any files whose image comes solely from the download folder will lose its artwork, however this can always be reacquired.
The cache folder is just that, a cache. If you delete this folder iTunes will rebuild it as and when necessary as it tries to display art for your various albums.
Very occasionaly these caches may become corrupt and removing them is the way to rebuild them. I've no idea how efficent iTunes is at garbage collection, so it is also possible that over time there could be redundant information held therein. Again, deleting the folders would result in them being rebuilt from scratch but if you are concerned they might be taking up too much room you can always delete and see what happens. How big is your media folder? Size and quality will have a bearing on how much memory the cache requires but I get an overhead of about 0.5% for my artwork folder, so a 500mb artwork cache would suggest your library is around 100Gb.

  • ITunes Album Artwork Help?

Hello fellow Mac users I have a question for you. But first let me tell you my story of why I am asking this question. I have a Black MacBook Upgraded to fastest RAM for the Best Memory, and of course I use iTunes, So I have purchased a few albums off of iTunes and I have uploaded a few also. So the albums I got from iTunes I have the artwork. But on the Albums that I purchased the CD I do not have the artwork except for one that is Aerosmith's Devils Got A New Disguise. But I have no idea why I have that Albums artwork? I did not buy it on iTunes? So the Albums that I do not have the artwork for are Thin Lizzy and Hannah Montana/Miley Cyrus 2 Album, I have tried clicking "Get Album Artwork" but I just get a message saying that Artwork was unfindable. So can any Mac "Pros" help me?
I was wondering if there is a way that I could find I picture of the Album covers an just Drag and Drop them where they need to go?

Never mind you can drag and drop. Sorry everyone

  • How Can I sync iTunes album artwork with album folders on my Mac

    Small Issue,
I just got a new macbook pro and uploaded copied the iTunes music folder from my PC, to an external hard drive then to the "music" folder in the Finder on my Mac.  I then went into iTunes and added my library via the "add music" link (or something like that)
All the music upload and most of the album artwork was missing.  I clicked "Get Album Artwork" and it replaced most of the album artwork
Here is the issue I need help with...
Some of the albums, which have album artwork inside iTunes, do not have album artwork if I go to the album folder in the finder.  Is there anyway to get this artwork to sync up with the folder?
I ask because, I am kinda anal and like the artwork to show up if I play a song from the spotlight (I like playing music that way)
Am I going to have to manually add the album artwork into the finder folders?

    Hi bill,
Here's an Apple Support article that tells you how to restore your IOS device from a previous backup on iTunes:

  • ITunes album artwork - how can I stop iTunes downloading the wrong artwork?

I was delighted to see that in the upgraded iTunes there is a facility to download album artwork using, I presume, much the same methodology as downloading track listings.
While my experience of downloading track listings has largely been OK - save for the odd niggle; my experience of the artwork function has been appalling.
Firstly, any release that is territory specific, e.g. UK only, or compilations, downloads the wrong artwork or no artwork at all. But also, the wrong artwork is attributed for classic albums by established acts. E.g. Genesis' Duke, downloads the artwork for Three Sides Line. Also, I have two Led Zeppelin albums and in each case, the art work downloaded was for the cheesy tribute group DREAD Zeppelin!!
Can anyone from Apple comment on this?
Also, if I manually insert the correct artwork; will this be overwritten if in the future I scan for updated artwork across my music collection? I have 65GB+ music on my hard drive, so that is an awful lot of album covers to get through!
    Thanks,
    A

Manually added album art will not be overwritten.

  • Itunes album artwork problem on 11.4.0.18

Recently after the update to iTunes 11.4.0.18 I've noticed my album artwork not displaying correctly for some albums.  They appear jumbled, but only the album thumbnail.  I'm running Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit, with an AMD processor & 8GB of RAM.
If you right click on a song in an album that appears to have a jumbled thumbnail, and click on Get Info, the album artwork appears perfectly fine in the summary tab as well as the artwork tab.  I've tried deleting the artwork then choosing get artwork for that particular album.  In most cases this has worked, with a few giving a message that artwork could not be found.  I've tried copying the artwork from the Get Info>Artwork tab, deleting it, then pasting it again and this also seems to take care of the problem when viewing the album thumbnail.  It's just crazy having to do this for each and every album that is displaying a jumbled artwork thumbnail.
Anyone come across this in v11.4.0.18?  Is there an easier way to fix this thumbnail problem than going through each and every album that seems messed up?

I can't see your image, but what may work is to delete the folder Album Artwork and then scroll through the entire library in Albums view.

  • ITunes album artwork screen saver possible with external library?

I just moved my iTunes library to an external drive to free up space on my MacBook, and I was wondering if there's a way to still use the album artwork screen saver when the external drive is not connected? I still have my artwork folder on my internal drive but when it is not connected, it says, "Your iTunes Library does not contain any songs with artwork." Is there a place where the screen saver info is saved? or does it only work with the library itself?

    hi,
it will only work when your library could be available.
beside, if I may suggest, it is more reliable to place your library files on your external drive along with your songs than keeping the library files on the internal drive. that way, you will avoid the issue to mistakenly open your library while your external drive isn't mounted.

  • ITunes Album Artwork Messup on iTouch

    Hello,
I've recently bought songs on iTunes (like a lot of people in this world), but when I synced this song to my iPod Touch (4th generation), it completely messed up the album artwork and assigned the wrong artowork to those songs. When I had my old iPod (2nd generation), syncing to my computer also messed up the artowork in my iTunes library on my iPod. Has any of you ever encountered this problem or know a fix to it? I've synced my iPod multiple times after seeing this issue, and restored from a backup, to no avail.
Here is a screen shot on my iPod of the problem:
As you can probably see, the song "One More Night" is NOT by Aerosmith... I congratulate myself on good observations -.-
