ITunes album artwork screen saver possible with external library?
I just moved my iTunes library to an external drive to free up space on my MacBook, and I was wondering if there's a way to still use the album artwork screen saver when the external drive is not connected? I still have my artwork folder on my internal drive but when it is not connected, it says, "Your iTunes Library does not contain any songs with artwork." Is there a place where the screen saver info is saved? or does it only work with the library itself?
hi,
it will only work when your library could be available.
beside, if I may suggest, it is more reliable to place your library files on your external drive along with your songs than keeping the library files on the internal drive. that way, you will avoid the issue to mistakenly open your library while your external drive isn't mounted.

Album Artwork Screen saver and iTunes Match
Since joining iTunes Match, my Album Artwork Screen saver can't find any art. How do I fix this?
The artwork is evident within iTunes, but the screen saver is a black screen with a message saying that it can't find any album artwork.I have exactly the same.
Screensaver settings says: "Your iTunes library does not contain any songs with artwork" which is simply lie! ;-)
almost all artwork is there
newest iTunes 10.5.3 (3) 64-bit
Lion with all add-ons
not long ago I have joined iTunes Match.. unfortunately haven't checked if it works before for long time..
I have: repaired permissions, removed com.apple.screensaver. iTunesArtwork* in ~Library/Preferences/ByHost/.
Still nothing.
I have found that ~/Music/iTunes/Album Artwork/ has 4 directories inside:
Cache
Cloud
Download
Local
.. first 3 had random named dir (the same) with what seems to be artworks directories. Local was empty still copying there this random dir didn't help too..
Any ideas please? -
Album artwork screen saver gone
I have done some research, but am confused. The album artwork is no longer showing up (black screen) as my screen saver. I am now using a new iMac Mountain Lion. BUT, I did do a full install from my old iMac so whatever the issue is in iTunes is still there.
ThanksI have exactly the same.

Hi, recently when I use my iTunes album art work as a screen saver the albums have a purple tint to them. It hasn't always been like that so if anyone could help it would be greatly appreciated.
Hello howwow,
In iTunes, select the song. Get info (command+I), click on the Artwork Tab at the top. You can drag the image from there to the desktop. Double click it to open it in the Finder, copy the image- just press command+c.
Open Preview, type command+n, this will create a New From Clipboard image of your artwork. Save it as a Jpeg or Pict. Repeat with each song you want and create the folder for your screen saver.

Album artwork/screen saver problem
I having a similar problem too like most on here, but it has a slight twist to it. This is just recent happened to me and I am not sure if any other people on here has experienced it. I was adding some music and my iTunes loaded the music into my library. Then all over sudden it decided to just crash, I didn't think nothing of it. Tried to reopen it crashed, crashed, and crashed. I started panicing so i restarted the computer, but that is when i released what happened.
I didn't notice this small problem until my album artwork slide show screen saver started.Somehow or way my iTunes has lost all over its Album artwork in it's folders, BUT.... it's still there on the albums and so forth. So what is the deal? I scanned for viruses i came up with none and I verified the DISK and reparied it everything was okie. But right as I was scanning for viruses the 1st time the whole OSX crashed. Which was the reason see if the HFS Volume 1 had problems but it did not. So has anyone experienced this problem yet? Or is it telling me I should move on and get me a new Mac soon?If you post the problem in a new discussion with a new title, someone will be able to help you out. I doubt you need a new computer, try everything and with some luck you will be OK. There are others who will be able to get you quickly fixed right, I am not the best at the problems you are having.

OS5.1 forced album artwork screen saver on me. How do I get rid of it?
I just loaded the newest OS for the Apple TV. I use my own photos for my screen saver. But the new OS has forced album artwork into my photo rotation. All I see is album artwork. I dont want that. Anyone know how to get rid of it? There is no on/off with that option in the screen saver menu.
Tophipherous,
I was confused too because i did not see the "My Computers" option that the jmfindley referenced. Here is how I was able to solve this problem on my Apple TV (5.1.1)
On the main screen go to "Photo Stream"
Select "Settings"
If any photo streams are currenty signed on (linked to the Apple TV) select "Sign Out"
Then, sign back on using the apple ID associated with Photo Stream you want to see displayed through your Apple TV. It should start building the library slowly on the screen, the number of photos will increment upwards a few at a time.
Finally, double check that your screensaver settings are correct (this happened automatically for me). On the home screen go into "Settings". Under "Screen Saver" check that the Photos option is now set to "My Photo Stream"
Hope this helps. -
ITunes album art screen saver problem
Hi, recently when I use my iTunes album art work as a screen saver the albums have a purple tint to them. It hasn't always been like that so if anyone could help it would be greatly appreciated.
Just thought I'd let you know that you're not alone. I've tried everything i could think of to fix this problem. The only thing that worked was re-installing the os
and not messing with the settings. But that's not really an option. I only found that out because i got a little delete happy while screwing with my mac.

As said in the topic.
Yes it can be moved into music videos by right clicking on the music video, selecting get info and clicking on the video tab on the top of the little window that opened up and open up the video kind menu and select music video out of the list.

Hey Smart Apples,
My iTunes Artwork screen saver is not working. After reboot, then selecting iTunes Artwork in System Preferences, just a black screen appears in the preview, as well as when pressing Test, and when allowing the screen saver to start on it's own. The error message in Console says...
11-10-13 2:13:18.304 AM [0x0-0x4f04f].com.apple.systempreferences: System Preferences(540,0x7fff77286960) malloc: auto malloc[540]: attempted to remove unregistered weak referrer 0x102021a10

also...

The memory address location at the end of each line is different everytime I preview the screen saver.
I've tried...
deleting ~/Library/Preferences/ByHost/com.apple.screensaver.* files
making sure each album has a cover in iTunes
running Get Album Artwork in iTunes
recreating symbolic link ~/Music/iTunes/iTunes Music -> ~/Public/iTunes Music/
... but doesn't help.
All other screen savers work... my usual is Flurry, and it works too, but gives invalid framebuffer operation under Console.
Nothing running/checked under Sharing.

Does anyone have a solution?
Environment: Mac OS X (10.7.2), Macbook Pro (late 2008)So it turned out that the cause of the problem wasn't as complicated as I thought...
I had a few songs that were not added to the iTunes library, instead referenced from other locations on my hard drive.
Specifically, if you bring up the Get Info window of a song, under Summary > Where, it may show a different path than your usual iTunes Media folder location, set under Preferences.
E.g. Where: ~/Desktop/downloaded_song.mp3
I guess, this happens when you drag a song into your iTunes instead of adding it to the library, and apparently, causes problems with the Artwork Screen Saver.
Solution:
To correct it,
For those songs, go to File > Add to Library...
Then find and select the song file.
That's all I had to do to get the screen saver working... All your songs have to be added to your iTunes Library.
I think my brother was messing around with my playlist... I hope Apple nails a better way to lock-unlock/secure OS X soon (proximity sensor, biometric 3D face recognition, unique voice recognition, soul recognition, etc.).
That malloc error message still shows up; that must be an unrelated issue with the screen saver.
I hope this helps out all those suffering through the same issue with their iTunes Artwork Screen Saver. -
ITunes 7.1 affecting fan speed in album art screen saver?
After installing the update I immediately started noticing my fan gradually increasing speed until it is extremely fast/loud, whenever the album art screen saver comes on. I've since changed my saver to a photo album saver since I can't take the noise. (And I'm fearful of the box taking flight.) Has anyone else experienced this? (Quad 2.5 G5 PowerMac)
Quad 2.5 G5 PowerMac Mac OS X (10.4.8)Same problem that I am having. I enjoyed the album art screen saver. Since I updated to v7 the screen saver doesnt seem to work correctly. Spent the first day of release getting most of my albums (shockingly more then I thought). Enabled the screen saver, but only got 4 albums to show up, no others. Testing it more, I removed the art for the albums that showed up, which got me to 1 album, removed and then got the error that my iTunes Library had no albums with artwork. Weird.. Removed my library, reloaded, and ALL the artwork is gone. Tried going a few albums at a time manually and it shows in iTunes, the new Album Art Dir updates with new stuff. but nothing for the screen saver. Good idea in principle, kinda bad in excuction is my thoughts right now. Hope for a fix soon.

Can I merge or combine 2 "album artwork" folders? I have saved music onto an external server from 2 computers but the artwork that I have manually imported remains in the default folder in the music/itunes/"album artwork" folder on their respective PCs.
i.e. artwork uploaded on one PC won't apppear on the other PC because it is saved locally...
I'm confident that i won't beable to just merge the 2 because thy'll have the same folder names.
On the same note: can I have iTunes create these files on the external server/Hard drive also so that either computer can use them at the same time?
(like I have my library- can the other files be saved remotely)
Thxi'm using iTunes 10 BTW

***** in my album cover screen saver
In the last week or so when my cover art screen saver is active there have been ***** photos appearing along with the cover photos. Not always but about every 10 minutes another **** shot appears.
Anyone know how I can view the folder of cover art and delete the ****? I'm not against **** per se I't just that it offends my wife and she thinks that somehow I must be responsible for it.
Anyone else getting **** when they get cover art from itunes? I've never gotten cover art anyplace but the itunes "get cover art" feature so I'm wondering if this is happening to anyone else and how i can get at those photos to delete them. I've looked in the music/itunes/album artwork folder and all that's there are files that end with an .itc extension. Thanks for any help!Hey Frank,
Just a question of curiosity, was your album artwork correct and normal before, and suddenly became full of pørn? Or what?
LOL, that's a strange thing that happened, are you sure you didn't use iTunes' album artwork settings to hide some pørn? haha!

New album art feature and the album art screen saver
Hi,
I've been using (and enjoying) the built-in album art screen saver for my locked screen for a long time. A few days after I've updated to iTunes 7, I began to delete old covers of my favorite albums (low resolution, bad color, read: Google image search) and applied the better-looking ITMS covers by selectively using the "get album art" feature.
Since I did that, those favorite albums do not appear in the screen saver rotation anymore.
I'm aware that the downloaded covers aren't saved in-file but in the /Album Artwork folder, so I'm certain that's the problem - the screen saver isn't programmed to look for those.
Now, does a workaround exist for that? Does Apple plan a small update (unlikely) / did anybody write a compatible clone / did anybody found a hack? Unfortunately, it's not in the localizible part of "iTunes Artwork.saver".
Thanks in advance for your help!

Hi,
I use the above screen saver. At times when I return to my computer and "wake" it out of the screen saver, the screen saver will freeze for a while (varying from a few seconds to a couple of minutes) and only then will close.
Any ideas? it only happens on this saver.
DanboThe album art that you manually inserted is stored within the song's file, and so is the art you get with a purchased download.
The art which iTunes 7 fetches for you, on the other hand, is not stored within the relevant files, but is instead all kept in a new folder, ~/Music/iTunes/Album Artwork/.
A way you can check this in practice is to transfer a purchased song, or one you've manually added art to, to another computer - the art will go with it. If you transfer a song for which iTunes 7 retrieved the art, the song will transfer without artwork.
The screensaver is part of the OS rather than iTunes and hasn't been updated recently, so is simply unaware of this new art storage location and isn't looking there.
