ITunes almost freezes new MBP i7 15. What can I do?

Hi,
I have a 3 month old MBP 15, latest (thunderbolt) generation with basic specs. I also have iPhone 4 that was synced in the past with previous computer and iTunes on it.
The current machine, from the very first sync that I did is experiencing problems with ITunes. The problem is that every time iTunes starts (e.g. after the iPhone is plugged in or even manually) the whole computer slows down extremely. By 'extremely' I mean you have to wait for 15 seconds to see results of the clicks you make displayed on the screen. The whole machine ans system becomes unusable. It also seems to have something to do with network. I noticed sometimes that when the wi-fi was off it seemed to prevent iTunes from freeze...
I have the iTunes updated, also the iPhone is running latest iOS and I have repaired permissions with Onyx. What else can I do?
Let me also add that at the very beginning of using this computer I also experienced this bug where iPhoto was refusing to see the iPhone and I had to delete the folder called 'iPod Photo Cache'. Currently iPhoto works fine but, as explained above, iTunes is unusable.
From time to time (every 10th time or so) it seems that iTunes launches correct. But is lasts only for couple of minutes before it almost freezes as explained above.
Any advice is much appreciated!!! I'm quite desperate already...

I've now replicated this problem on another account so it's not a matter of account but it seems related to iTunes itself...
