ITunes alternative... I dislike iTunes.

So I really hate iTunes, it does stuff that annoys me. But that's not discussion for this...
What I'm wondering is, what else is there to use on the mac?
I'm a Linux person, so on there I use a music server database with a command line client. It works really well, and is completely command line, does everything I want. But, sadly, it doesn't work properly on my mac.
Syncing to my iPod isn't a big deal either, that runs Linux, so I can play ogg files. And it just mounts as mass storage so I can just drag files to it like a normal MP3 player....
Anyway, what alternative is there on a mac that does things like OTG playlists, I can select a bunch of songs to burn and not have to make new playlists, etc?

So I really hate iTunes, it does stuff that annoys me.
Hate is a strong word. So iTunes annoys you in some ways; so do people, yet we don't hate them for that.

Try windows media player or real player, both available for the Mac. Keep in mind you will need to convert your songs to the MP3 format as no other player I'm aware of will play the songa downloaded from iTunes.

Once you have created your new iTunes library, go to the Music folder and drag the old one to the trash. Make sure to verify that you have the right iTunes library working. Once verified, you can empty the trash.

I really dislike iTunes 11. How do I revert to the previous version (v10.6)?

So I was pi**ed that they removed the Album Art preview. I decided to downgrade. I renamed my iTunes folder within ~/Music. After deleting the 11 .app, I installed 10.7. I ran it and everything seemed fine. It was empty, of course. So I drag and drop all my files over from the old iTunes folder, except iTunes Library.itl. I copied the old one from the Previous folder, renamed it, and started iTunes. Everything looked as it was, even the window was resized like I had it -- but I had a popup window.
"An unknown error occured -42408"
I tried every single solution I could find on the internet and none of them helped it. I work in IT for a living so believe me when I say I tried everything. The only other solutions were upgrade iTunes (lol) or do a full Time Machine restore. I don't feel like restoring my entire computer tonight, so I decided to suck it up and reinstall iTunes 11.
What a ******* nightmare. I can't believe Apple would remove such useful features and not even give you the option to put them back. I guarantee you won't get them back, either. Apple doesn't have a great history of taking stuff away and giving it back. Really regretting my decision to try it out.
Oh yeah, and I had to fix my iPad with the fix provided above. Didn't help my error though. I couldn't authorize or deauthorize my computer. I want to see if I can deauthorize it with iTunes 11 and then try it with 10.7 but I've already messed around with it enough. I just want to have a good night. This pretty much wrecked it.

ITunes alternative for Linux

I'm a long time Linux user, so I'm all for anything that let's me avoid Windows. I ran across an iTunes alternative, gtkpod (http://gtkpod.sourceforge.net), that lets me put music on my nano under Linux.
It has most of the features of iTunes, except for the music store (of course) and photos, but pretty much everything else it handles.

I just placed a post trying to find out why ,unless I upgrade to iTunes 7.7, can I not authorize my computer , or use any of my purchased music in iMovie projects or listen to it , and I just spent weeks retuning my system to a previous state , this is all to accomodate the new products apple is foisting on every one at the expense of us

ITunes Alternative?

I just have a quick question...
Is there a way I can upload music to my iPod without using iTunes?
The reason is because iTunes has some mayor problem now with its latest versions, and its just all corrupted.
I tried installing it from scratch, cleaning registry, my HD, any single bite that has the "iTunes micro organic cell" hidden in my PC and it worked... until i restarted my PC.
iTunes worked and my iPod was full of songs again, then i reboothed and everything is gone again.
I scanned my PC for viruses using the mayor scanners and my PC is clean, the problem is with iTunes x_x.
My problem is related to the latest update and then when i try to run iTUnes i get the "iTunes has encountered an error and needs to close" thing.
There are quite alot of guides out there about removing EVERYTHING and re-install, thats what im refering to above.

If your copy of iTunes is crashing, you should collect a crash log and send it to Apple so that the engineers can look at it.
Typically, you'll need to configure Dr. Watson on your PC in order to generate crash logs. Windows start menu -> Run. Type in "cmd". Hit return. At the prompt in the command line window that comes up, type in
drwtsn32 -i
And hit return.
This will create crash logs in Documents And Settings\All Users\Application Data\Microsoft\Dr Watson\. There'll usually be a file in here called "drwtsn32.log"
So, get the machine setup to collect crash logs, do the thing that makes iTunes crash. Send it to the apple moderator as well as information about what version of iTunes you're using. Tell her Toonz sent you. It doesn't hurt to put the URL to this discussion thread, so that whoever gets it has some context.

ITunes Music Library vs. iTunes Library

What is the difference (datawise) between "iTunes Music Library" and "iTunes Library?"
To add music files to the library while in my C drive, do I click and drag the files into where?? ...the "iTunes folder" or another folder? I can't add them to the .itl or.xml files, so how do I add them??

You open iTunes and drag the songs to the Source list (the long pane on the left hand side). Alternatively in iTunes go to File>Add file to library or File>Add folder to library and navigate to the file or folder of files that you want to add.
The iTunes Library file is the database that holds all of your library information, song titles, artists, playlists, playcounts etc. The iTunes Music Library is an XML file iTunes uses to communicate library information with other programs. You would need to make sure you're accessing the Computers icon. If you are under the Music icon, that will be accessing the cloud and only show iTunes purchases (unless you subscribe to iTunes Match)

Installed itunes on xp but itunes wont open and ouicktime will

I just bought an ipod nano for my husband and i wanted to surprise him by setting it up with his favourite tunes but i haven't been able to install itunes on my windows xp. The programme downloads but only quicktime will open. I tried to insatll an older version of itunes but when i try to open it i get as far as the contract agreement ( which i accept ) and then a window pops up stating "itunes library.itl" cannot be read because it was created by a newerversion of itunes.
I have uninstalled and reinstalled the download several times but to no avail, has anyone any suggestions ??

When you get the message "itunes library.itl" cannot be read because it was created by a newerversion of itunes. - It ususally means what it says and can be fixed in the way I suggested, but it seems to be something different in your case.
Are you still getting that message when you try to open iTunes?
Just to be sure, you have no file called iTunes Library.itl in your iTunes folder? If you have Windows set not to show extensions of known file types, you would just see iTunes Library.
There is something else you might try although I haven't tried it in this situation - Hold down the shift key and start iTunes from All Programs. Keep the shift key held down and you should be prompted to create or choose a library. If it works, create a new library in your iTunes folder.
If iTunes doesn't start like that, we will have to try doing a complete removal of iTunes and reinstall. We can go though that next.

Can no longer sync Ipod to Itunes after upgrading to Itunes 7

I can no longer sync Ipod to Itunes since upgrading to Itunes 7. When I try it freezes my Itunes and I have to force quit the application. Anyone else know how to solve this? Anyone else having this problem?

I have the 3rd generation IPod and I thought it happened when I dropped it, but after thinking about it it did happen the same time I switched to itunes v7.

Install disk drive from old computer in an external enclosure.
Then copy the complete iTunes library from the disk drive to the disk drive in the new computer.

I found the answer to my question.
When you attach a device (iPhone, iPad) to your Mac, in iTunes 12 in appears as a tiny icon in the second "row" of the iTunes display. Click the icon and the familiar iTunes display for the device appears. From there, on the Summary screen, you can see the dates of the backups of the device (iCloud and backup to the computer). You can also use the button to backup to the computer.

You can add audio files that are in AAC, MP3, WAV, AIFF, Apple Lossless, or Audible.com (.aa) format. If you have unprotected WMA content, iTunes for Windows can convert these files to one of these formats.

iTunes does not use the .xml it uses the .itl
If you are sure your old library file migrated across (does the file size and modification dates suggest it has?) start iTunes while holding down the option/alt key and guide it to the .itl file to get it to use that one.

ITunes alternative... I dislike iTunes.
