ITunes Alternative?

I just have a quick question...
Is there a way I can upload music to my iPod without using iTunes?
The reason is because iTunes has some mayor problem now with its latest versions, and its just all corrupted.
I tried installing it from scratch, cleaning registry, my HD, any single bite that has the "iTunes micro organic cell" hidden in my PC and it worked... until i restarted my PC.
iTunes worked and my iPod was full of songs again, then i reboothed and everything is gone again.
I scanned my PC for viruses using the mayor scanners and my PC is clean, the problem is with iTunes x_x.
My problem is related to the latest update and then when i try to run iTUnes i get the "iTunes has encountered an error and needs to close" thing.
There are quite alot of guides out there about removing EVERYTHING and re-install, thats what im refering to above.
Update:
reffer to this tread wich seems like the same problem i currently have:

(iTunes wont open..)

Shadow,
If your copy of iTunes is crashing, you should collect a crash log and send it to Apple so that the engineers can look at it.
Typically, you'll need to configure Dr. Watson on your PC in order to generate crash logs. Windows start menu -> Run. Type in "cmd". Hit return. At the prompt in the command line window that comes up, type in
drwtsn32 -i
And hit return.
This will create crash logs in Documents And Settings\All Users\Application Data\Microsoft\Dr Watson\. There'll usually be a file in here called "drwtsn32.log"
So, get the machine setup to collect crash logs, do the thing that makes iTunes crash. Send it to the apple moderator as well as information about what version of iTunes you're using. Tell her Toonz sent you. It doesn't hurt to put the URL to this discussion thread, so that whoever gets it has some context.

  • Please tell me an iTune alternative

I am looking for an iTune alternative... I just dislike iTune and really want some alternatives.. Can anyone tell me any other media player I can use? Thank you so much!

Try windows media player or real player, both available for the Mac. Keep in mind you will need to convert your songs to the MP3 format as no other player I'm aware of will play the songa downloaded from iTunes.

  • ITunes alternative for Linux

I'm a long time Linux user, so I'm all for anything that let's me avoid Windows. I ran across an iTunes alternative, gtkpod (http://gtkpod.sourceforge.net), that lets me put music on my nano under Linux.
It has most of the features of iTunes, except for the music store (of course) and photos, but pretty much everything else it handles.
    Check it out.
    shrike
p.s. gtkpod isn't the only available option under Linux, but it's one I like the best.

or all of your music ?
I just placed a post trying to find out why ,unless I upgrade to iTunes 7.7, can I not authorize my computer , or use any of my purchased music in iMovie projects or listen to it , and I just spent weeks retuning my system to a previous state , this is all to accomodate the new products apple is foisting on every one at the expense of us

  • ITunes alternative... I dislike iTunes.

So I really hate iTunes, it does stuff that annoys me. But that's not discussion for this...
What I'm wondering is, what else is there to use on the mac?
I'm a Linux person, so on there I use a music server database with a command line client. It works really well, and is completely command line, does everything I want. But, sadly, it doesn't work properly on my mac.
Syncing to my iPod isn't a big deal either, that runs Linux, so I can play ogg files. And it just mounts as mass storage so I can just drag files to it like a normal MP3 player....
Anyway, what alternative is there on a mac that does things like OTG playlists, I can select a bunch of songs to burn and not have to make new playlists, etc?

So I really hate iTunes, it does stuff that annoys me.
Hate is a strong word. So iTunes annoys you in some ways; so do people, yet we don't hate them for that.
If you feel you must have an alternative to iTunes, there are a variety of them, both free and paid:

  • Itunes alternative for KDE. Rythmbox is not integrating well

    Hi,
I am not finding much information on this so I thought I would start a post. I have been using rhythmbox for music. I recently decided to bring our main computer to the KDE world from LXDE. I am trying to stick to strictly KDE programs for better integrating. I have not found an alternative to iTunes or rythmbox though. Any ideas? The problem I am having right now is that every time I try to sync with the iPod rythmbox just shuts down below starting with line 6 is what is produced during the shutdown. The previous is the initial start up of the program
I also had to install the gnome-icon-theme package which is not something that I really wanted to do.

  • Seeking iTunes Alternative

I know there are a few options, but am wondering what might be the best alternative to iTunes, to use on a Macbook Pro?
I want a player that doesn't reorganize my music, and make me want to throw my computer through the window. I don't care about a lot of tweaking of sound or stuff like that.
    Thanks for any help.

Do you have control over the format of the e-mail? If so,
make a list of the things you want to extract, then figure out a
layout that is easy to parse. If you don't have control of the
    format, well, that's a problem.

  • ITunes alternatives anyone

It would need to be able to handle 350GB of music without locking up for 25 minutes every time you click on anything.
It would need to be able to put stuff on the iPad and iPhones quickly, ie put a 200MB video file on it in less than 4 hours would be a great improvement.

Given that iTunes cannot take the loading, see separate post on trying to optimise iTunes.
and no alternatives offered, I guess it is back to using Windows.
I really wish I found out this limitation with Macs, before I replaced all my PCs with two iMacs and 2 MBPs, could have saved me a fortune.
WIndows 7 is here now so maybe things are looking up.

  • What is the best iTunes alternative  for a 4th Generation iPod Touch?

iTunes is the worst music application I have ever used and would love to be able to use a different application to sync music with. I have a really nice computer, but it is taking 10 times longer to sync music than Windows Media Player. I'm beginning to understand all the hate people have for Apple, besides how over-priced all their products are.

    Found one.
Are you sure? That doesn't look (to me) as though it's suitable for managing an iPod.
I'm guessing, since you mention Windows Media Player, that you have been using it for a while and have just bought yourself an iPod. In that case, you simply need to get used to iTunes, in the same way as a car driver needs to get used to a new vehicle or a new employee has to get used to the demands of his or her new job.
I find iTunes much better for managing the device it has been designed to work with (Apple products) than anything that other MP3 players or Portable Media Players use. Often the software used to manage other MP3 players isn't specifially designed for the device at all and it can be like forcing a round object into a square hole.
Try understanding how you can get can get the best out of iTunes instead of trying to make it do what Windows Media Player does.

  • ITunes Alternative line missing

    Hi guys,
I've recently re-installed my pc and also iTunes 8.0.1. But somehow, iTunes Alternate line (the white/blue background in the songlist) is not showing. It shows as plain white BG which make me find it difficult to find song's info throughout the list. And yes, my pc's iTunes used to has alt lines (on both iTunes 6 and 7).
BTW, I've got the iTunes library folder from backup (because I'm too lazy too add my whole music again). Not sure if this could be troublesome...
    So, any ideas? Thx

I don't see any reason why the white/blue background should not be there aside that being related to your display. If you are using a LCD display, white/blue background can litteraly disappear depending of your contrast/brightness setting or simply your view angle of the display.
If you do use a laptop of a LCD display, try to look with an angle the display to see of you see the blue line appearing. If they are, you will need to adjust your display settings.

  • How can I get paypal to work with itunes?

I am having a problem with Paypal in general. I was thrilled when I saw that Paypal was a choice. So, I choose it for a payment option, verified all information and set up my preapproved payment account. For awhile everything was great. I bought music and podcasts with no problem. Then after trying to buy a song one day I was given a message that my account information has changed. I updated all my information (which I never changed in the first place) and that's when the problems started. I verifed all information with Paypal as well but when I click "Return to Merchant", I am directed to the apple website's itunes download page. I have already downloaded the latest version of itunes thinking MAYBE I needed to update. But still, no verification on the side of itunes that my account is active. Everytime I try to buy a song I am directed back to the page in itunes that I need to verify my paypal account. My account is active in paypal, but still I can't buy songs. I have verified my account information, I don't know how many times now in the past few days. I have emailed Apple support with my problem and have heard nothing back from them. I have been doing searches in discussions and have seen that paypal may not be the best choice for payment per so many problems customers are having. I feel I have no choice but to switch to a credit card if I want to buy anything in itunes. I think that if you offer a choice like paypal then it should be crediable. Apple really needs to take this choice away or fix it, and stop misleading customers into problems like this. It is really fustrating.
Oh yeah, once I actually got into my account information and re-entered all my info (once again!?) and then I am given an error message "Form not complete....enter country". This confuses me to NO END. My country (USA) is clearly stated in the form. I mean, you have no way to change it, it's already there! ?*&#@! So, I click "Done" but itunes will not accept it. I get the same "enter country" error over and over. I have changed browsers(from IE to Mozilla and back again) and tried countless advice I have found while searching in Discussions to no avail. I have updated my information until my fingers are sore. I have verified my paypal account so many time that my email is full of confirmations from Paypal. I cannot understand why this is happening or how to fix it. Any advice would be appreciated.
    Thanks!

When you say a new user ID, are you referring to your Apple ID that you use to make purchases in the iTunes Store, etc? Or are you talking about a new user account on the same Mac?
