Itunes always freezes on start up

itunes freezes on startup for some reason now,
can somebody help?
hp pavilion 514c   Windows XP

okay, we're going to check to see whether or not this is associated with a preference files problem in your current XP user account. (note that this is not a cure, it's a diagnostic procedure. if we get the right results we'll try for a cure.)
let's try an experiment.
head into your user accounts control panel and create a new user account with full administrative rights. (there's help documentation on how to do that at the left of the control panel screen.) while you're in that control panel, switch off "fast user switching" in your logging-on preferences.
now log out of the old account and log into the new account.
does itunes launch properly (without freezing) from inside the new account?

  • Ask for refund for upgrading to lion, since lion always freezes at start up.

I want to know if I can get a refund for upgrading to lion. I have been really frustrated with this upgrade. Ever since the upgrade, I have not been able to start up normally. It always freezes at start up. I don't want to waste my time on fixing this issue any more.

No refunds that I know of.
    Downgrade Lion to Snow Leopard
    1.  Boot from your Snow Leopard Installer Disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button.  When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.
    2. After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Note the SMART status of the drive in DU's status area.  If it does not say "Verified" then the drive is failing or has failed and will need replacing.  SMART info will not be reported  on external drives. Otherwise, click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
    3. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed.
    4. Quit DU and return to the installer. Install Snow Leopard.
This will erase the whole drive so be sure to backup your files if you don't have a backup already. If you have performed a TM backup using Lion be aware that you cannot restore from that backup in Snow Leopard (see below.) I suggest you make a separate backup using Carbon Copy Cloner 3.4.1.
If you have Snow Leopard Time Machine backups, do a full system restore per #14 in Time Machine - Frequently Asked Questions.  If you have subsequent backups from Lion, you can restore newer items selectively, via the "Star Wars" display, per #15 there, but be careful; some Snow Leopard apps may not work with the Lion files.
After seeing what you have to do to return to Snow Leopard you might rethink your position of not wanting to fix the problem you have with Lion which probably arose from existing problems with your Snow Leopard system. The fix is pretty easy. Back up your data, erase the drive, reinstall Lion, restore your files.
Install or Reinstall Lion from Scratch
If possible backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive.
    Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
    Erase the hard drive:
Select Disk Utility from the main menu and click on the Continue button.
Otherwise, click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Erase button and wait until the process has completed.
Quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion: Select Reinstall Lion and click on the Install button.
Note: You can also re-download the Lion installer by opening the App Store application. Hold down the OPTION key and click on the Purchases icon in the toolbar. You should now see an active Install button to the right of your Lion purchase entry. There are situations in which this will not work. For example, if you are already booted into the Lion you originally purchased with your Apple ID or if an instance of the Lion installer is located anywhere on your computer.

  • Why does my iTunes always freeze when a device is connected?

I am running the latest OS X Yosemite 10.10.2 and iTunes 12.1.0.50.  Every time I try and connect a device to iTunes the colour wheel appears and iTunes freezes. This has happened on an iPhone 5, an iPod Touch and an iPad Mini.  This problem only occurred after updating to the Yosemite OS X and iTunes 12.  Prior to then everything was working fine.  I was hoping the latest updates to both would have sorted out my issue but they didn't.

    Howdy SheppBoy,
If you are having an issue with iTunes becoming unresponsive when you connect a device, I would suggest that you troubleshoot using the steps in this article -

  • ITunes always freezes while syncing iPod Classic

I bought an ipod classic off of ebay last week, and syncing it with itunes on my old windows xp laptop has been such a pain. Every time I go to sync, I'll get 1500-2000 songs in, before the syncing screen on my ipod switches to "connected: eject before disconnecting" and itunes freezes. I've tried everything: syncing all at once, one album at a time, in playlists, but nothing works. At first I thought the hard drive must be fried but a scan in windows tells me it's fine and the amount of reallocs it has (303) has remained steady. Please, can anyone help me? I'm desperate.
    Thank you.

I have same problem since 2 months ago

  • Unable to watch movies in iTunes 9 - freezes on start

I received some iTunes gift cards for Christmas, so I downloaded and installed iTunes. After redeeming a gift card, I purchased and downloaded a movie. When I click on the movie the player comes up, but then nothing else happens -- the timer never advances from zero. I have tried this on two computers running Windows XP, both Compaqs. I have tried every solution on the Support site, including uninstalling and reinstalling iTunes, and still no joy. Has anyone else experienced a similar problem and been able to solve it? As of now, I'm stuck with gift certificates I can't use, plus I paid for a movie twice which has now expired. I would appreciate any help you could offer.
    Thanks,
    Randy

Is anyone else having this problem? Any ideas what to do?
    Thanks,

  • ITunes always freezes. help?

I just downloaded the newest version of iTunes, and whenever I try to go to a genius playlist or go to the iTunes store, iTunes quits unexpectedly. Before I had this new version, it ran fine. I tried re-installing it, but that didn't work. what do I do?

Hello kodishj and Welcome to Apple Discussions ...
Whenever you update software, run Disk Utility and Repair Disk Permissions. Quit all open applications. Launch Disk Utility, (it's in your Applications/Utilities folder. With DU open, select Macintosh HD 10.x.x in the panel on the left, select the FirstAid tab, then click Repair Disk Permissions. When it's finished Quit Disk Utility. Launch iTunes and see it if quits on you.
If it does... try this. Locate this file: com.apple.iTunes.plist It's here:
/Users/YourName/Library/Preferences. From the Preferences folder, drag that file to your Desktop. Launch iTunes. If it doesn't quit, drag that file back to the Preferences folder, if when you try to launch it and it quits, drag that file to the Trash, and empty the Trash. Reboot your Mac and then try iTunes again.
If none of the above helps... go here: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1852

  • Purchased movie sync-back to iTunes causes Freeze

iTunes consistently freezes while transferring a purchased movie from the Apple TV to the iTunes Library during a sync. iTunes always freezes at the same point in the transfer, and is 100% repeatable. In fact, I have not been able to to use iTunes since making this movie purchase on the Apple TV.

The transfer consistantly fails about 25% completion. Not sure of the exact %, but the bar always stops at the same position.
There is no failure message. iTunes begins to consume 100% CPU utilization, and must be force quit. It is unresponsive.
This was the first purchase made since upgrading to v2.3.
I have restarted both my MacBook, and the Apple TV with no change in results.
I am unable to use iTunes because it freezes (see above) as soon as it finds the Apple TV on the network and begins to transfer the purchased movies to the iTunes Library.

  • Loathe iTunes...always freezing!

I absolutely hate iTunes! I've never been able to smoothly run the darn program, EVER! It always freezes on the first try, and it takes at least 3 tries to get it going without freezing and sometimes still doesn't recognize my iPod is even connected. I've tried uninstalling/reinstalling/updating/starting without iPod connected, etc, etc...
I have no problems with any other programs, my PC is rather new (Windows 7, up to date).
I try to use other media programs when I can (MusicBee, WMP, etc), because iTunes is so frustrating. Really, they need to think of a better way to do this, scrap the whole program altogether and start over.  And make it more user friendly while they're at it, because iTunes is anything BUT.
Until they start listening to their users and we're all forced to endure this crap program, does anyone have any suggestions on how to make it at least stop freezing up????

same thing happens to me. I use a shuffle and i-tunes only seems to open when it wants to.

  • I've jail break Iphone 3GS. i tried to restore setting (erasing all data and media) without connecting to computer/itunes. When it starts it freezes by showing apple logo only. what is the solution.

i've jail break Iphone 3GS. i tried to restore setting (erasing all data and media) without connecting to computer/itunes. When it starts it freezes by showing apple logo only. what is the solution. please help me out. Here i don't have iphone service center too.

Although not illegal, Apple discourages a user from modifying the iPhone OS in any manner, including "jailbreaking".  Apple feels so strongly about this that discussing methods to assist a user trying to either jailbreak or "unjailbreak" an iPhone are prohibited.
