ITunes and Ace mega codec interferences

Hi There,
I use itunes for all music purpose and iPod updating but I use windows media for div-x with ace mega codec pack.
with previous version of iTunes it works perfectly. I have downloaded the latest up date of iTunes and now iTunes refuse to launch.
I have uninstal ace mega codec softwares and the new version of iTunes works without problems. It is as per my understanding a compatibility prolem.
BUT I can't watch any div-x without acemegacodec so i am in front of a dilemna.
I am sure you can help me in that topics. maybe 1 patch exist to fix this kind of problem.
Thanks for your assistance
Laurent

hi Laurent!
Then I install the codecpack, (that works when i was using last version of itunes), and itunes new version crashes.
gaah. okay, this is
b speculation
that is partly based on the few reports i got in about the K-Lite Mega Codec Pack 1.38 "breaking" working copies of itunes 5.0.x.
what i noticed with the details of that mega codec pack was that it contained all the
b QT 6.5.2
codecs. so my suspicion is that
b either
it was installing a version of QT 6.5.2 somewhere on the computer that itunes 5.0.x thought it should be using (resulting in 5.0.x crashing because it needs at least QT 7.0.2 to run),
b or
the old QT 6.5.2 codecs were desperately confusing the existing QT 7.0.2.
so, perhaps try to see if you've got a new copy of QT 6.5.2 somewhere on your machine after you've installed that Codec Pack, and uninstalling that. if you still get errors (or different errors), try downloading and saving to your hard drive a copy of the standalone QT 7.0.3 installer. (run the installation from there rather than online. switch off antivirus and antispyware prior to the install.)

keep us posted on developments.
love, b

  • Can't uninstall QuickTime or open iTunes, thanks 2 Ace Mega Codec Pack???

Everything was fine, updated my 60gb iPod everyday and played iTunes daily. (Happy Days) Until one fine day, i decided to download Ace Mega Codec Pack.(Sad Days) It all starts here... Ever since then I have not been able to open my precious iTunes, Getting this message: *ITunes has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.*
So here's what I’ve tried, Possibly making matters worse, I uninstalled Ace Mega Codec pack immediately and when prompted that some files I was removing was shared I said, Whatever and deleted them anyways in hope iTunes would just work after uninstalling! What a mess.
I then tried iTunes again with no joy, So I uninstalled iTunes, reinstalled and still the same message: *ITunes has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.*
I then read on a thread somewhere that, if I reinstall QuickTime, it should work.
And when trying to uninstall QuickTime I get this (+Add or remove programs+) message: *Fatal error during installation*. with no error code.
I just don’t know what to do, I’m on the verge of reinstalling Windows! (I bet things like this don’t happen on a Mac.)!!
Well I would really appreciate any help or advice anyone could give me,
    Thanks a million,
    Phill, (Stressed in Dublin, Ire.)

Ok, I actually fixed this cannot delete old Quicktime files based on Apple's guidance on support. I had done this step yesterday, and must have missed a few files. This is going into the System32 folder through my computer. I deleted the Itunes, Ipod and Quicktime folders, but did not realize that I had to continue scrolling because there were these two file name were at the end, and not in a folder, so they weren't deleted the first go around. So I deleted, then reinstalled on my C drive (not the default Program Files) as someone else here had instructed, and Quicktime is now working! Now, I will attempt ITunes....wish me luck!
Delete the QuickTime and QuicktimeVR files located in the C:\Windows\system32\ folder.

  • ITunes and iPod mega problemo

Hey I just reset my iPod, and now it won't show up on iTunes. ALso, the reason I reset it was because iTunes said I had no CD and it alsosaid I couldn't sync. What the hecks happening? I NEED HELP! PS my iPod is currently still trying to be fixed. This is really ticking me off!

    Oh sorry.
I am quite new to this.
    But this is my problem:
I have an iTouch and I plug it into my computer...
    but it doesnt show up!

  • ITunes crashes on start up since installed Ace Media CodecS pack

First post and if truth to be told iv never had to use the support forums at Apple before because everything normally goes swimmingly well. But now im in dire need of assistance
Basically, I did one of the most silliest things I could have done and in an effort to get Audio to play on a .avi file I downloaded 'Ace MegaCodecS'
Looking in the installation file I just selected everything and whilst some programs failed to work - a quick uninstall of it seemed to do the trick.
But itunes has posed a problem somewhat.
Initially I couldnt install it or uninstall it. I even had the same 'fatal error' on Quicktime. But after using Windows Install Clean Up I managed to install Quicktime first and then iTunes.
But still the problem persists... I try and load up itunes and it comes back with an error and if I try and load of Quicktime? It comes back with a 'Buffer Overrun detected'
This is the error message for iTunes:
*Faulting application itunes.exe, version 7.3.2.6, faulting module unknown, version 0.0.0.0, fault address 0x000a0164.*
*For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.*
In addition to the above I have also used a registry cleaner to clear out any rogue items and iv also uninstalled some codecs which didnt disappear when I uninstalled the Ace Media CodecS Pack.
I love using iTunes, I keep all my music on there and because of doing this, I believe I have lost my statistical data but thats neither here nor there...I would love to get it back without having to format my hard drive from scratch.
If anyone could take the time to help me I would be ever so grateful

  • Itunes and Internet wont open because of a "netsh reset" code

My Itunes store was having troubles opening before, and i couldnt figure anything out to make it work. i updated it, redownloaded it, and finally used a "Netsh reset" code in the command prompter. this resulted in Itunes not even opening, and neither did my internet. i've no idea how to fix it or what to do. help?

Try removing QUicktime and installing the stand alone version. Also check for incompatible software.
    Here is a method
Have you installed any of the following:
ACE & K-Lite mega codecs package, QT alternative, Storm codec, WinAVI video converter, Mpcstar, (possibly starcodec pack, 3ivx)
    If so uninstall them.
Then download the version of Quickime without iTunes:
    http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/win.html
Now Remove Quicktime using the method for Quicktime in this article (just Quicktime):
    XP
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1925
    Vista
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1923
When you come to your C:\Windows\system32\ folder you can delete any file or folder with Quicktime in the name.
    Restart you computer
Install the stand alone Quicktime and check if it starts.
If it does you are in a position to find out if iTunes is OK.

  • Itunes and Quicktime are not working

On my computer, when you click on quicktime it shows the hourglass then goes away and nothing happens. When you click on itunes it sends an error message. I was looking through some of the old solutions that have been given and there were some similar to my case. One was the exact but I have no idea what an codec is. Can someone help?
    Dell XPS 200   Windows XP

I was looking through some of the old solutions that have been given and there were some similar to my case. One was the exact but I have no idea what an codec is.
this wikipedia article might be of some assistance:
    Apple Website
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Codec
have you ever installed an ACE or K-Lite Mega Codec Pack, or a copy of QT Alternative, or a copy of Storm Codec on the PC?
also head into your Control panel and try launching your QuickTime control panel. does it open properly, or do you get an error message? if you get an error message, what does it say? include error message numbers if you're getting any.

  • Itunes and quicktime both fail to launch, giving error reports

Getting a little ticked because ive been trying to get itunes to properly work.
To clarafy, i've done the following to try and fix this problem
    Uninstalled itunes and quick time
    Re-installed
Uninstalling just quick time and it almost loaded until it gave me the audio codec issue(i know i need quicktime for itunes to even work)
I've installed older versions of itunes (same issue)
I've tried loading up itunes on a different user account
Now i don't know what left to do (besides trying the msconfig, im in the process of doing that right now)
    I need help guys
I'm really close to just taking back the ipod nano and getting something more windows compatable

Have you ever installed any of the following:
ACE & K-Lite mega codecs package, QT alternative, Storm codec, WinAVI video converter.
They are known to cause crashes with Quicktime. If you have one of them, you need to uninstall it.
You can get a clue to the presence of a problem codec by trying to run QUicktime preferences from the control panel. If you get an error message like this:
"An exception occurred while trying to run "C:\Windows\system32\shell32.dll,Control_runDLL "C:\Windows\system32\QuickTime.cpl"
You could have a problem codec, QUicktime does not install Quicktime.cpl in the system32 folder.
Then try the following method for removal of iTunes and associated components and Installer cleanup:
Download a fresh copy of iTunes and the stand alone version of Quicktime
    http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/win.html
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
Download and install Microsoft Installer cleanup utility, there are instructions on the page as well as the download. Note that what you download is the installer not the program – you have to run it to install the program
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301/
Now use the following method to remove iTunes and its components:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93698
If you hit a problem with one of the uninstalls don't worry, carry on with the deleting of files and folders as directed in the method.
    Restart your PC.
Run the Microsoft Installer Cleanup Utility. (Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up)
Remove any references you find to the programs you removed - strictly speaking you only need to worry about those programs where the uninstall failed.
    restart your PC
Install the stand alone Quicktime and check that it works.
    If it does, install iTunes

Checking on a possible cause of similar symptoms. Have you ever install an ACE or K-Lite Mega Codec pack, a copy of QT Alternative or QT Lite, or a copy of Storm Codec on that PC?
(Checking on this because those programs, and some others, can install "QuickTime" componentry on the PC that can break a copy of the QuickTime on the PC, and as a consequence break iTunes. The "fatal error" when attempting to uninstall QuickTime is often a symptom of that, too.)

  • Itunes and Quicktime can't oppen!

I just installed itunes 8.1 and when I want to start it(it's the same thing for Quicktime)a window saying:"itunes meet a problem and need to close" appears. But I never oppened it and it's not normal that it meets a problem if I can't use it!
    Please help me.

Itunes can not work if Quicktime does not.
A common cause of problems with Quicktime is incompatible codecs.
Have you installed any of the following:
ACE & K-Lite mega codecs package, QT alternative, Storm codec, WinAVI video converter, Mpcstar, (possibly starcodec pack, 3ivx)
If so uninstall them, they are know to cause problems with Quickitme.
The list of problem codecs may not be complete, suspect any recently installed codec or converter software.
Then download the version of Quickime without iTunes:
    http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/win.html
Now Remove Quicktime using the method for Quicktime in this article (just Quicktime):

  • ITunes and Nero 9 conflict

    Hello all,
Hopefully I've posted this in the proper forum. I just recently purchased an iPod touch (3G) 64g which I love! The problem with this is that I've had to uninstall my Klite and Ace codec packs to install iTunes/Quicktime. Now I'm unable to burn any of my movies, purchased as backups or camcorder (.avi). Anyone have any suggestions or advice as to how to fix this?
    Thanks

The K-lite packs should be okay so long as you don't install QuickTime Alternative with them. (It's the Codecs Guide people's third-party chop-down of QuickTime.) The problems generally arise when the QuickTime componentry from QT Alternative and the QuickTime componentry from "QuickTime itself" get out of sync version-number wise, at which point you start getting QuickTime and iTunes launch errors.

  • ITunes and Quicktime will not launch

I cannot get my iTunes or Quicktime to launch. I have uninstalled, reinstalled, upgraded, and tried several fixes that I found on this discussion board. No Luck! I'm using XP Pro SP3. When I first installed iTunes, it worked, but then quit working about 4 weeks later. I'm using the latest versions of both iTunes and Quicktime.

The error message you are getting suggests that you do have one of the problem codec packs installed on your system or you have had in the past.
Quicktime does not install Quicktime.cpl in the system32 directory.
It is possible that one of them was installed without you knowing with other software, I think Storm may get installed with other things although I can't name anything.
You must look for the things on my list and uninstall them if you find them. Check in Add/Remove programs to see if there is an entry there.
When you have uninstalled the problem items go on to the next stage. If you can't find anything you had better go on as well.
Download the stand alone Quicktime (the one without iTunes):
    http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/win.html
Now Remove Quicktime using the method in this article (just Quicktime):
    XP
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1925
    Vista
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1923
When you come to your C:\Windows\system32\ folder you can delete any file or folder with Quicktime in the name.
    Restart you computer
Install the stand alone Quicktime and check if it starts.
If it does you are in a position to find out if iTunes is OK.

  • ITunes and QuickTime will not work..Yeah, another one

Despite my best efforts to try to solve my problem on my own and not both you kind people, I've been working on and off at trying to get my iTunes working, with no positive results at all. It's honestly been so long, I don't recall what might have sparked the issues, but every time I try to open iTunes or QuickTime they will begin to open but fail, bringing up the common windows error message:
iTunes has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.
QuickTime Player has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.
So far, I have totally deleted both iTunes and QuickTime twice from my computer- first just through Add/Remove Programs pathways, then more in depth with Registry Crawler to try to remove any traces of the programs- all before re-installing the two programs. Both times have failed, still leaving me unable to open either program, so I've broken down and come here- hoping to find anyone willing to lend a hand to help fix this issue so that I can finally listen to my music the way I used to.

    Perfect information, thanks.
That combination is almost always caused by some application stashing old QuickTime componentry down in your system files. (Codec packs and video converters are the usual suspects, although some Games might do it too.)
Let's go looking for the old stuff.
    1. Open My Computer from the desktop or Start menu.
    2. In the Tools menu, click Folder Options.
    3. Click the View tab.
    4. In the "Advanced settings" pane under "Hidden files and folders" make sure that the "Show hidden files and folders" option is selected, and the "Hide extensions for known file types" option is unchecked.
    5. Click OK.
Now in My Computer, open your C drive.
    Open the "Windows" folder.
    Open the "system32" folder.
What files and/or folders can you see in there with QuickTime in the file/folder name? (In a standard installation of QuickTime, you should see precisely two files ... QuickTime.qts and QuickTimeVR.qtx ... and no QuickTime folders whatsoever.)

  • ITunes and QuickTime doesn't open up on Windows Vista

Hi! I will apreciate all who tries to answer this question.
I have Windows Vista on my HP laptop and I dowloaded iTunes and QuickTime.
I had no problem downloading it, but then opening it came a box.
    It said:
    iTunes has stopped working
Windows can check online for a solution to the problem
-> Check online for a solution and close the program
    -> Close the program
    View problem details

    It said:

    ... and:
To help protect your computer, Data Execution Prevention has closed iTunes
... and the QuickTime Player not launching either (it's a "QuickTime has stopped working" error?).
With that combination, we need to check on some other application (apart from QuickTime itself) stashing old QuickTime componentry on the PC in an unorthodox location. (Codec packs and video converters are the usual suspects with that, although some games might do the same.)
So we'll go looking for the older QuickTime componentry in the most common locations for it to be stashed.
First we'll need to change some view settings.
In your Start menu, open Computer.
In your Organise menu, select Folder Options.
In the View tab, make sure that "Show hidden files and folders" is selected, and "Hide extensions for known file types" is unchecked.
    Click OK.
Now in Computer, open your C:\ drive (or whichever drive you have your operating system installed on).
    Open the "Windows" folder.
*If you have a 32-bit version of Windows,* open the "System32" folder.
*If you have a 64-bit version of Windows,* open the "SysWOW64" folder.
What files and folders can you see in there with QuickTime in the title? (In a standard installation of Quicktime you should be seeing precisely two files ... QuickTime.qts and QuickTimeVR.qtx ... and no QuickTime folders whatsoever.)
