ITunes and Digital Media Center?

I am looking for a Digital Media Center as a replacement for my CD Juke Box that can organize music, photos, videos, etc - has anyone done that - or is there a manufacturer that makes one available? Everything that I have found runs Windows Media Center which I am very unhappy with. Want something that I can transfer all my media to but using iTiunes rather than the Windows system??? Anybody have suggestion??

  • Why does itunes and other media continue to play when i close the lid on my macbook pro 2011???

Hey, I am new to mac and still getting used to it (making the transition from windows), its amazing! Anyhow, I cannot figure out why my itunes and other media like youtube or a film on vlc player continues to play once the lid has been closed. I thought that when i close the lid the macbook should then sleep. It does everytime when there is nothing playing. The little white light on the bottom right hand corner of the book is on but music continues to play.
The sleep option always works. If I press the power button and choose the option sleep it does so etcc.
Is this normal and am I just being stupid or is there a problem??
I bought the laptop from ebay, its a macbook pro late 2011 17inch. I dont have apple support and might have to make a trip into London to the mac store however I was hoping someone can help me...
Processor  2.4 GHz Intel Core i7
    Memory  4 GB 1333 MHz DDR3
Graphics  Intel HD Graphics 3000 384 MB
    Software  Mac OS X Lion 10.7.5 (11G63)
Thanks if you can it is muc appreciated....!!

hey, thanks for the reply. I don't know to be perfectly honest. When I close the lid without any music playing it sleeps fine. How could I check?
So basically I pressed the power button and pressed sleep. The laptop turned off and the little white light turned on no problem. I did the same thing with closing the lid and it went to sleep no problem. (Can you confirm that when the little white light is on it means the laptop is sleeping)??.
I then had itunes playing and pressed the power button and when i pressed sleep the music paused then 6 seconds later it went to sleep. I then had itunes playing and closed the lid and the music kept on playing even though the white light was on.

  • Anyone using itunes with XP MEDIA CENTER?

I have had trouble installing itunes for DAYS! I kept getting the is not a win 32 app...did the troubleshooting but cant get the itunes uninstalled because it never got installed and cant find where to remove the set up. When I try to delete the TEMP folder it has two prgrams running with MEDIA CENTER that will not delete. I contacted apple and they said it is not compatible ith MEDIA CENTER EDITION...however, RADIO SHACK SWEARS it is. HELP!

Not to my knowledge. Media Center's music functions are essentially a wrapper around Windows Media Player - whatever you can play through WMP and add to its library is accessible through the Media Center UI. Unfortunately this does not include your AAC and M4P files. There are some freeware and commercial decoders out there that will enable AAC playback through WMP (www.rarewares.org/aac.html, www.3ivx.com), but for any protected files you're out of luck.
As for front-ending iTunes through Media Center, the HP interface you refer to is the only one I know of and frankly it's not very good. You might try The Green Button forums, a quick search turned up at least one likely thread.

  • ITunes and Windows Media Player

I just installed iTunes 8 on my PC with Vista and now I can't even open Windows Media Player. I did not change the default to iTunes and expected to still be able to use the Windows player. Any ideas for a fix?

OK, found a solution elsewhere on the net.
I searched for ages on Google and on Apple's site and could not find the solution. Combining what was said in this link http://johnhaller.com/jh/usefulstuff/itunes_arist_in_titleissue.asp with another user's mention of absolute paths in M3U playlists was the solution.
First, load your M3U playlist into Excel as a text file. Use Excel's auto filter function to remove any rows that reference the track # or title - they all start with the pound sign. This leaves behind just the path to the actual file and the filename itself. Then, edit the paths so that they're the full absolute path to the file. In my case, the paths were missing the "C:\" designator. Once I did that, I created a new empty playlist with the name that I wanted, and I dragged the modified M3U playlist onto it. Voila! iTunes added the playlist without adding new files to the library. It's a miracle!

  • Actiontech router and Windows Media Center on Win8

While waiting for Verizon to solve their network problems and actually get light to the ONT, they left the actiontech router in my house, so I took sometime to get to know it.
It's definitelly something I don't want or need in my network. It's not a bad router if you didn't have a business class product from before (actually it is pretty much the best you can get short of going to hardware firewall routers in the class of Zyxel, Watchguard and some high end, business class, Dells, Ciscos and Netgears).
Well... needless to say, I am running such a router (a Watchguard XTM-26W) and have security subscriptions with them to protect my network. In addition, it offers functionality and discrete access controls otherwise impossible with consumer grade products.
Now, back to the basic subject: I noticed something ominous and wonder if anyone else has noticed it too. I run my TV service through a machine that uses a Ceton 4-HD PCI-E tuner card with a multistream cablecard. It is installed on top of Windows 8 Pro, 64 bit and I use Windows Media Center as my core TV interface (guide and all). The machine is set to go to sleep by itself if no activity (and TV it's the only thing designed and intended to do and the only thong it does) is detected on the tuner for 5 minutes. This works flawlesly  and always did while on Comcast service.
Now, the problem: you put the Actiontech router in the network (regardless of whether it's before or after the firewall gateway) and the machine fails to go to sleep. The router introduces some dort of chatter in the networkk that keeps the HDD active and the computer alive in perpetuity. Did anyone notice anything similar? What is your experience with this?
Obviously, I have no intent to keep the Actiontech router in the network under such conditions. For what I know, it is illegal in fact to put out products that send unsolicited traffic through one's network. Not to mention that it is a security risk. Might Verizon re-consider their insistence on deciding what routers to support and what don't or simply drop all support for all the routers since none is ever really needed? They only have the job to deliver a public IP to my equipment and I should be left alone otherwise (according to FCC). Which they otherwise fail to do by putting a piece of equipment that is theirs in the way and mandating that I use it, since 192.168.x.x is NOT a public IP, according to Internet Council.

    LeoZ wrote:
Actiontec responded to my inquiry. See below.
It turns out it's another Verizon problem...
"Honestly no idea what would cause the chatter on the network to prevent sleep\stand-by to function.
Verizon would have to review the issue and see what in the code programming would cause this."
Stop the chatter. Put your Media Center hardware behind another firewall. Like I said mine is Linux IP-COP, which constanty drops these trash packets from the single STB I have on the MOCA COAX.
All from the Verizon network router. Almost like a broadcast storm!
This is a Motorola STB, My Cisco had two real IP addresses asigned by DHCP, and they did not do this. I turned in all my STB hardware and ordered a single STB, and was sent Motorola when I had been using Cisco.
wan-1 in into my Linux box and lan-1 is out of it. Then all my harware which includes Media Center PCs are gigabit switches, not exposed to this. I guess you could use another router and not a Linux PC. This STB is going back soon.

  • ITunes and laptop media controls

I have a Toshiba satellite laptop, with media controls (play/pause, back forward and stop). I cannot find a hotkey editor which allows me to change what the keys does, and the media controls only seem to work with windows media player (eww) and not with itunes. Is there any way I can make them work with iTunes? Is there any way to setup any global hotkeys for iTunes?

I have the same problem with my HP laptop media controls. In iTunes 7.1.x, the volume keys on my laptop double registered whenever iTunes was open and not focused on the program, so the volume would go up/down twice at one push and when pressing mute, it would actually mute then unmute as you released the button. However, the play/pause, stop, ff/rev keys worked fine.
I've decided to go back to 7.1.1 until there's a fix, but I don't know how to do it without losing my settings. If anyone can help, please let me know! This is my original post for reinstallation: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=990100&tstart=0

  • N95 and windows media center..

the 2 don`t seem to like each other .. so i`m now stuck with a laptop that will not talk to my mobile .....the laptop says it is a reconized
has anyone got any ideas how to get round this .. please

I do not think you can do this unless you can convert the Windows Media Center recording to a type of file which is supported by Verizon Media Manager.  Media Center files have an extension of  *.dvr-ms.     Verizon Media Manager ONLY supports .avi, .wmv, .flv, 3gp/3g2, .mpg(non-mpeg 2 videos) and .mp4/m4v  files.  I have been meaning to try this as well,  but have not yet.
Can anyone recommend a good and free video converter for this?

  • ITunes And Digital Copy Question

sorry if this has been asked before but
is there a way to register all my digital copy blu rays onto my itunes and delete them so they dont take space away from my macbook pro?
i copied Juno onto the computer then deleted it, and they let me know that even if i delete the movie, it will stay in my itunes. But it doesnt, how do i/ can i redownload these movies anytime?
PS- reason why im doing this is because i notice Digital Copys expire, and i figured that if i load them up, i would be safe from them not expiring
    Message was edited by: Avalanche™

As I understand what you are trying to accomplish - copy the Bluray to iTunes so you can avoid an expiration date - then delete the items from iTunes to the trash.
If this is what you intend to do then the items are removed from iTune database and deleted from the HD when you empty the Trash.
A possible work around is when you want to d/l the Bluray after the expiration date is to reset your computers current date and time to an earlier date and time - then copy the items.

  • 5th Gen Airport Extreme, XBox360 and Windows Media Center

Hi there. A similar question was posted in August 2011, but the resolution was apparently to return the 5th Gen Airport Extreme in favor of a 4th Gen Airport Extreme. Not really a solution.  Here's the setup:
    Upstairs
    2nd Gen Airport Extreme  --- (wired) --- XBox 360
    {wireless signal)
    downstairs
Cable connection --- (wired) --- 5th Gen Airport Extreme --- (wired) --- Win 7 PC with Windows Media Player
Wireless network is set up as 802.11n (no b/g)
Xbox can see the Intenet and XBL just fine. And on the  Win 7 PC I have no problem setting up the Xbox as an extender.  But when I'm on the Xbox, the Media Center app is unusably slow. Like minutes to connect and I can't even get to a menu.
What can I do? Let me know what information is useful and I'll gladly provide it. Thanks.

  • Home Hub 4 and Windows Media Center extenders

Hi, I cannot get my PC to see my Xbox as a Media Center extender. This used to work fine on the Home Hub 3. The computer just can't see it at all. Any ideas?

    Hi,
just received my homehub 4 a couple of days ago and have been having the same issues, although my network is completely wireless. It's not just a problem with my PC not seeing my XBOX as a media center extender but also with my XBOX not being able to see any UPnP servers on my network. To prove it was the Homehub 4 I connected my old netgear router and everything worked just fine.
What I noticed was that the Windows 7 PC that I was running Windows Media Center from was connecting to the Homehub 4 on a 5GHz channel (new wireless dongle which supports 2.4GHz & 5GHz), the XBOX was connecting on the more normal 2.4GHz channel. You would think that this doesn't matter since ultimately they both connect to the same network but in my case they just wouldn't talk to each other! I followed the instructions here:
    http://community.bt.com/t5/BB-Speed-Connection-Issues/BT-home-hub-4-wireless-connection-issue-on-the...
to ensure that the SSID of the 5GHz (e.g. BTHub4-ABCD_5GHz) channel was separated from the 2.4GHz (e.g. BTHub4-ABCD_2_4GHz) one and forced the Windows 7 PC and any other Media Servers to use the 2.4GHz channel rather than the 5GHz one and now all is well. Not an ideal solution as I would have liked to use the 5GHz channel where my hardware allows it but it will do for now.
I think I read further down that your XBOX may have been connected via a cable rather than wirelessly and I don't think there was any mention of how your media centre PC was connected, but if your PC is connected via the 5GHz channel it might still be worth moving it to the 2.4GHz one and trying again.
    Cheers

I didn\'t think that I needed an MSI motherboard to install Media Center - just the MSI video card?  What I do wonder as well is that, since all of the first FX5900 Ultra cards are actually manufactured by Nvidia for companies such as MSI, is this why the software doesn\'t recognise the card as an \"MSI\" one?  If so, I guess I\'m sunk...

I wouldn't know on that as I have a MSI board and vid card.I do have a media center from nVidia. If you update the drivers from nVidia, you should get theirs.Unless I am thinking of a different media center.
EDIT I was thinking of a different media center,my apologies.MSI's looks neat,  I want one as well.

  • ID3 tag incompatibility between iTunes and other media jukeboxes?

    Hi
Although it is very nice, I feel iTunes lacks features in regards to smart id3 tag management for large libraries. I bought Music Match because of its capabilities to mass-change of tags and auto-completion of information using filenames and/or the Internet.
Besides the fact that Music Match does not recognize the nano, now in many of the songs whose tags have been corrected using Music Match (same for RealPlayer) will appear corrupted for iTunes: they will not play, if transferred to iPod, will not play there either, and if removed from itunes and then reinserted, the songs will not even reappear in the main library list. That is, the songs are lost as far as itunes is concerned, even though I can still play them with any other player (winamp, music match and real player).
So maybe itunes converts the tags to some format only itself will understand? And itunes would do this only once, at first, so that if the user externally changes the tags, something bad might happen? Any past experiences on this?
    Any help will be appreciated.

  • Using iTunes as a Media Center app vs. Miro--Which is better?

Ok, so I've been using Miro as media manager/player portal for a while now,
and it has several things I don't like: Organization of media is a nightmare,
Miro often acts flakely in trying to organize playlists, etc.
and I've been taking a look at VideoDrive for iTunes.
I like the fact that iTunes is the backbone for it, and we all know how easy it is
to organize content and create playlists in iTunes.
But how does it compare to Miro?
As far as handling multiple video formats, etc?
Anyone whose used both for media playback / management,
please post your feedback. It will help in my decision to buy
    VideoDrive or not....
