ITunes and entire music library lost in compute crash... help needed please

Evening everyone.
I lost my iTunes and complete library in computer crash, but music is still on my 4G iPod touch.
Can I use this to copy my music library back to my PC?

Installed ITunes 8 - entire music library lost - hangs if I try to add fold

I just installed iTunes 8 after having been prompted to do so.
When I first opened it the app started to render my album covers, and then stopped.
I was curious about the genius feature, so I enabled that, and it said it was active, but then nothing showed in my music library at all -- no covers, not a single track.
I tried re-adding the folder where I store my music, I get a processing message, but then it just hangs.
I ended the task, tried adding a single song -- that song added successfully, so I added one more -- also OK, and they could play. So I tried adding the whole folder again - hangs.
End task again.
Re-open - the songs I added manually aren't there anymore. Every time I add a song, it shows temporarily, then when I exit and go back in the whole list is erased again.
At the file system level the folder where it stores all the info about music is COMPLETELY EMPTY: \\server\users\myusername\my documents\my music\itunes\itunes music\
That folder used to have hundreds of folders and files? What the heck happened? Where are my files?
Is this a bug or just some weird issue on the x64 version of Vista that happens when you have my documents folder re-direction turned on? This wasn't a problem with v7.x

Copying the old iTunes Library (from the "Previous iTunes Libraries" folder) didn't work for me. iTunes went through its typical "Updating iTunes Library" routine the next time I launched, and any attempt to add a folder of files to my library still returns Error 13014.

No opening of itunes and no music library/folder HEEEELLPPP!!!

I tried many time to install iTunes but it doesen't open due to wrong location of iTunes in My Music folder, I cheked on the support site and have done everything written, but thought I'm searching for the Library no file with .itl extention is available.
What to do? I cant'relocate the folder because iTune is not opening and I searched in my computer but I didn't found the solution...

Computer Crashed - Help Needed!!!

Hi, my computer crashed recently and we had to have a new hard drive put in. There are a few things I need help with, I'll list them, any help would be brilliant! I've read a few posts on here to do with getting the songs onto iTunes, but I'm worried that I'll use the wrong information so if anyone can give me some help relating to my questions it would be great, thanks!:
1. I've just put the disk that came with my iPod into the computer. After typing in my information a box comes up saying "Please plug in your new iPod so that it can be configured. Make sure you wait a few seconds for the iPod to be recognised by the system. Click Cancel to skip the configuration step.". Now I'm not sure what to do here. If I plug it in will it wipe my iPod? I've got a load of albums on there that I bought on iTunes (which I havent backed up onto cd) and I dont want to lose them!
2. My next question is basically what to do next? Basically I'm not brilliant with computers and am worried I will wipe everything! I have a 20GB iPod and I have about 1000 songs on there.
How do I load the disk that I got with the iPod? Is this disk iTunes or is it just information (I've had my iPod for a couple of years and can't remember!). Do I need to load iTunes from the Internet or is it on the disk?
How do I get the songs from my iPod onto iTunes?
I'm totally confused! Help!!!!

Welcome to Apple Discussions.
What kind of iPod are you using? 3G or 4G?
In your situation, yes, you should skip that step.
Basically the disk should install iTunes and the iPod software updater onto the computer. Our advice is that you should not use the CD but instead download the latest versions from the link above, and then install iTunes followed by the iPod software updater.

Although your iTunes Library display is blank, your song files are probably still on your hard drive.
First step is to have a look at this article in the Apple Knowledge Base and let us know if it brings you any combination of joy and/or satisfaction.

I am trying to redownload the music we lost after computer crashed.a message is showing this computer is already authorized with an apple id, if i download past purchases with my id i can not auto-download or download past purchases for 90 days????

Ipod crashing and not able to display in i-tunes - help needed please

After synch, i-tunes said disconnect but ipod still flashing not too and continued so had to disconnect after bout an hour! Now ipod not recognised in itunes. Have run ipod diagnostic check from i-tunes and everything on green saying it connected properly!
tested i-tunes with shuffle and that all works fine.
Been trying to resolve for hours!

Have you reset the iPod? In the future you can use
the "Safely Remove Hardware" icon in the system tray
to eject your iPod. It looks like a silver rectangle
with a green arrow over it.
I've reset it using the menu button and the click wheel - is that what you mean or is there another way?

I have just synced my ipad with my itunes on windows and have now lost the original music library on the computer leaving me with just the downloaded songs from my ipad. I don't have the original library on icloud for some reason and was wondering if there was any way to get the original library back on my itunes?

Ok, I had a glitch, forced to restart, and lost my train of thought.
Reinstalling iTunes should fix the major issue that might have gone wrong, perhaps your explaination points will disappear and everything will be peachy again.
But if they don't, you can open the XML file in iTunes Folder using a Text edit program to see what the common pathname is to the iTunes Music folder or where your content is located.
If you moved the itunes folder, it needs to go back.
I can't download iTunes to my Vista virtual machine to test it out right now because iTunes is down, so I can't verify the pathname, perhaps your issue and the iTunes being down are related somehow?
You don't want to import all your music again, but it's a option, but you lose all your playlists, that's what I'm trying to recover.
If oyu don't have a whole lot of playlists, then simply select all the explaimation point music and delete, select File from the menu and import your itunes folder again.

I am trying to sync my iphone with itunes music and have selected 'entire music library', which shows a large amount of potential music data to be transferred. Trouble is after sync, the bar shrinks back to just the content of one particular Playlist!?

I am trying to sync my iphone music with itunes, but am finding that as soon as the sync is complete the data bar shrinks back from almost full (my entire music library) to just 100 songs, which happen to be the contents of one playlist I have. i cannot seem to change the music content on my phone no matter what? thank you randers4, unfortunately these restrictions aren't to blame. Now I realise the problem - I tried to play some of the music and found out that the source data wasn't attached. The computer was rebuilt and backed up - and it seems perhaps hasn't all been copied back. I am currently attempting to copy accross some itunes files from my backup drive. Bit confused, too many itunes files of different types but fingers crossed getting closer to the solution......?

About the iTunes library files
Your iTunes library files track the media you add to iTunes, how you've organized it, and other information such as playlists. By default, these two files are in your iTunes folder:
Mac OS X: /Users/username/Music/iTunes/

You should be able to accept this message, it will cause existing music, photos (not camera roll) and videos (also excluding those in camera roll) to be removed and replaced with those from this computer. All other user data on the iPad will be unaffected.

If you are running an OS of 5.0 or higher, you should be able to use the iCloud to sync both devices together & share music.
