ITunes and FLAC, SHN Files?

Hello all, I was just wondering if anyone knows how to make iTunes support .FLAC files and/or SHN files? How come apple will not include these codecs?
Hello apple! Please support .FLAC and .SHN in iTunes!!!
Thanks!

As long as you're only going to be using the files in iTunes or an iPod, there's nothing wrong with Apple Lossless, and it'll give you the same quality as AIFF in a smaller space.
You can always convert to AIFF if you change your mind at any point.
Have you heard iTunes' AAC encoder recently? I revisited it awhile ago, and was pleasantly surprised. Since then I've backed up all my Apple Lossless files onto DVD, and converted my iTunes library to 160 kbps VBR AAC. It gives a very passable quality in a much smaller file size.
If you're intent on preserving the original sound of the CD though, Apple Lossless is definitely the way to go (on a Mac anyway).

  • How can I completely remove iTunes and all associated files/programs from my Windows PC?

How can I completely remove iTunes and all associated files/programs from my Windows PC?

iTunes, along with Quick Time, iCloud, Apple Software Update, Bonjour, Apple Mobile Device Support and Apple Application Support can all be removed from your PC by uninstalling them using 'Uninstall or change a program' in Control Panel. The only obvious thing that will be left behind is your iTunes library which remains untouched. If you want to remove that as well it's just a question of deleting it.
    Hope that helps.

  • I have my iTunes Library on and external hard drive.  I have a new computer and want to use iTunes and KEEP my files on the external drive.

My iTunes library is on an external hard drive, and I was able to access / add to the library from my windows laptop.
I now have a new laptop, and want to be able to KEEP the library on the external drive while being able to use iTunes from the new laptop.
I have selected "choose library" in iTunes, and have chosen the iTunes Library.itl file on the external drive.
My media populates in iTunes on the new laptop version of iTunes, but when I click on a song iTunes says that it cannot locate the song.
    Your help is kindly appreciated!

Thanks.  Were the settings shown in your last screenshot in force when you added the song that's shown on being on the C: drive?  It is also possible that at some point you ran iTunes with the external drive disconnected, in which case it will have defaulted to the library on the C: drive, or that you've run iTunes without explicitly selecting the library on the E: drive.  To make sure the latter is the case, hold down SHIFT while starting iTunes, then when you get this prompt:
click on Choose Library..., navigate to the location of your current iTunes Library.itl file, and click Open.
Part of your issue may that its not obvious where that current database file is located.  The folder layout on your E: drive isn't the one that's most easily managed - so its possible that the database file could be in:
    E:\xxxx\Files\iTunes
    E:\xxxx\Files\iTunes\iTunes
    E:\xxxx\Files\iTunes\iTunes 1
I suggest that a lot of your issues can be addressed by reshaping your library into the reliable "portable" layout as described in tt2's Make a split library portable user tip.  Comparing your screenshot with the equivalent on my system (where I have a "well-formed" library on an external drive):
    where:
there is just one iTunes folder with everything used by iTunes inside it
all media is held within subfolders of the iTunes Media folder
The way you have yours set up, where the iTunes Media Folder location is set to E:\xxxx\Files\iTunes rather than E:\xxxx\Files\iTunes\iTunes Media is probably why some of your media is not being located correctly - the extent to which iTunes can correctly resolve locations is, to an extent, reliant on the folders for the different media kinds (Music, Audiobooks, etc.) being inside the iTunes Media media folder.  One common misunderstanding (not helped at all by Apple's documentation!) is that the iTunes Media Folder location setting in Edit > Preferences > Advanced does not tell iTunes where to find anything; rather it determines where iTunes will put new additions to your Library, in conjunction with the Copy files to iTunes Media folder ... flag:
I would definitely take the time to work through the steps to bring your library into the "portable" shape - there may be few remaining issues with broken links when that's complete but this will be much easier to fix if your library is in a more standard structure.

  • Updated iTunes and lost my files again! Please help!?!

I just updated iTunes and once again lost my library. Using Windows7 64 bit OS. Now I found the file and imported as before and have some but not all of my files. Is there any way to restore my playlists?? I have spent hours creating these for my various devices and each time software is updated I have to do it all over again. It duplicates the names of the playlists but no files are within the lists themselves. Also I don't have any songs that I have paid for in the store. These tally into the hundreds as well into the hundreds of dollars. I kinda would like to have these back as well. Any help here??? Also must I rip all my CDs every time, this process is getting very, very, very old!

So you failed to maintain a backup ( basic) and you lost your music. And then after this happened once, you still have failed to maintain a backup?
Let's review your logic... If iTunes FAILS, doesn't work properly and it has BUGS the size of 18 wheels trucks THEN it's the users fault???
OK. He should have made a DVD back up in case of a disaster like this, I'll give you that. BUT the problems are Apple's and iTunes software engineering team responsibility. They're the ones providing defective, buggy software.
The reason 90% of users won't make a backup is just because they TRUST Apple to correct the problem if it already happened before or they don't have the time to do it. Or maybe they're just plain lazy. LOL

  • Renaming files on both iTunes and the Windows file system

I use the voice memo app on my iPhone to record things and sync them to my laptop with iTunes. In the past when I renamed the files from the date/time default inherited from the phone, the change was copied to the file stored on the laptop -- so I could change the name to "Joe Bloggs speaks" and then find the file in the iTunes folder on my machine with the same name. Since upgrading to 10.5.1, this has changed. Now I alter the name in iTunes and  when I click on "find the file in Windows Explorer" it still has the orginal date/time name on the M4A file. Is there something I can tweak to get back the useful function I had before? Or can somebody in Apple make sure this is function is restored in the next iTunes update.

Under the Edit > Preferences > Advanced tab do you have Keep iTunes Media folder organized? If not then iTunes won't move/rename files as you edit them.
I'm not able to check myself just now, but I suppose it is possible that renaming has been disabled on Voice Memos so the original date & time can be recovered from Explorer and it would stop voice memos moving into your music folders after an edit instead of being in a predicatible location.

  • Changing song info in Itunes and the actual file names

How can I change the song info in iTunes and make it change the actual file names?
It gets a bit tiring after every single time iTunes updates I have to re-organize my 3000+ songs. I tried to do a quick search for an answer in the forums but I wasn't exactly sure what I should search for so sorry if this is a duplicate post.
Is this possible? (does this make sense?)
    Thanks!

I have the option checked and I made several changes to the ablums name and song names for several songs in my library. iTunes changed the files to the new folder names and renamed the files.
The only problem is that I have empty folders of the old album names.

  • Alright guys I need some help here with itunes and my music files

Basically, I've had two apple accounts in the past like 4 years.  One day I connect my Ipod touch to my computer and downloaded an update from Itunes, not knowing that it erases all your content.  I didnt have my music files backed up either, so I ended up losing over $300 worth of music and apps.  Ever since then I never updated my touch, from the fear of losing my music.  Now that I have my own apple account, I have music files from the first account and my account.  My question is how can I back both of these groups of files up and update my ipod without losing any of this content!?  I would really appreciate a step by step process etc.  Thanks guys for helping me out!

  • When installing iTunes and extracting the files with Winrar I get corrupted files and cannot complete the download why is this?

When I dont extract the files and go straight to the installer it says that the download was inturrupted and to try again and it wont work any of the times I try.

Try clearing your browser's cache before downloading again, or try a different browser, or download the installer on a different machine, check it with Winrar or 7-Zip, then put it on a memory stick to take back to your own computer.

  • ITunes And MP3+G files

Can anyone tell me how I can view and/or play and/or manage my ipod/iphone 3gs stored MP3+G files from my computers desktop. As they appear invisible to iTunes.

Thank you for your quick response.
I've installed an extra (internal) hard drive and have divided it into several partitioned drives. It is the G: partition that I save all of my audio files and to where I changed my Itunes directory. I don't think "G" was ever named anything else since it is what I named it when I installed (and partitioned) the drive.
All of my Itunes program files remain installed in the C: drive.
I hope that all of this makes sense. If you can't tell, I'm quite the neophyte. Please be patient with my learning curve....

  • I purchased songs thru itunes and used a file sharing system to get other songs. when i went to sync it came up with error -69. just for the stuff i purchased yesterday and the free doownloads. whats the issue?

purchased songs thru itunes yesterday and also thru a free file sharing place. i added the songs to itunes yesterday & today i went to sync up and all the songs from yesterday have a error -69. what is the deal?

Usually a 69 indicates damage to a file ... but it's a bit suspicious that everything acquired in a short time frame is showing a -69. That has me wondering about disk damage.
Perhaps try running a disk check (chkdsk) over your C drive (or whichever drive you've got the 69-throwing content on).
XP instructions in the following document: How to perform disk error checking in Windows XP
Select both Automatically fix file system errors and Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors, or use chkdsk /r (depending on which way you decide to go about doing this). You'll almost certainly have to schedule the chkdsk to run on startup (especially if it's running on the C:\ drive). The scan should take quite a while (especially on the C:\ drive) ... if it quits after a few minutes or seconds, something's interfering with the scan.
Does the chkdsk find/repair any damage? If so, do the items still give you a -69 when syncing?

When trying to open ITunes, I got an error message of msvcr80.dll can not be found.
Assuming that it was an iTunes file, I reinstalled iTunes.
Trying to open again, I got an error message of an appication is trying to open a library file incorrectly.
How do I resolve this problem.
Neither my PC with Vista nor my my laptop with windows 7 will work?
    Thanks

    Hello Msvcr80.dll,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
For more information on this, take a look at:
iTunes 11.1.4 for Windows: Unable to install or open
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS5376
    Check for .dll files
Go to C:\Program Files (x86)\iTunes and C:\Program Files\iTunes and look for .dll files.
If you find QTMovie.DLL, or any other .dll files, move them to the desktop.
    Reboot your computer.
Note: Depending on your operating system, you may only have one of the listed paths.
    Uninstall and reinstall iTunes
Uninstall iTunes and all of its related components.
Reboot your computer. If you can't uninstall a piece of Apple software, try using the Microsoft Program Install and Uninstall Utility.
    Re-download and reinstall iTunes 11.1.4.
    Best of luck,
    Mario

  • Itunes and windows installation prob...

I had an older version of itunes and tried to upgrade to 7.1. Everytime I try to download it, I click on the 'itunes setup' icon on my desktop and a 'windows installer' window pops up with a bunch of info that I don't understand. I uninstalled the old itunes and quicktime...any other suggestions?

with that one, let's try the following procedure.
first, head into your Add/Remove programs and uninstall your QuickTime. if it goes, good. if it doesn't, we'll just attend to it when we attend to itunes.
next, download and install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. use it to clear any existing itunes and/or QuickTime installation configuration information from the PC.

next, use the the following document as a guide for manual removal of leftover itunes and quicktime program files:

  • Problem with iTunes (and all of iLife!!!) finding information on machine

I just bought a new G5 Black Macbook, and had the Apple Store transfer my old profile from my G4 iBook in the past week. When i picked up my macbook, everything worked fine and all the pictures, music and personal preferences were transfered, but in the past day all programs act like i'm a new user, and do not register any of my old music, photos, or preferences. My iTunes library is located in its usual place, and all music is there, but Itunes seems not to see it, the same goes for iPhoto.
The two things that have happened in between the computer working fine and this problem are: I have installed Growl, and renamed my home tab in finder. I'm not sure if either of these played a part, but its changes that have been made.
Does anyone have any suggestions as to how to to solve this problem, or should i just take it all back to the Apple Store?

Well all the songs are Mp3s, but I will try a CD. Also, as I mentioned, I tried a few converters for the videos, and Videora was one of them. The videos that I converted with Videora don't seem to want to import to iTunes, and the .mov files won't sync (For obvious reasons now I guess). I tried reinstalling iTunes and all sorts of stuff but they just don't want to work
