ITunes and iOS 5

I have the most up-to-date version of iTunes (have just uninstalled and reinstalled it), and am trying to download iOS5.  Everything says iTunes should present me with the option to do this, but it doesn't.  When I use the iTunes search box it just re-directs me to stuff I've downloaded from the iTunes store and starts playing my music playlist.  PLEASE HELP, I've spent 5 hours currently trying to figure this out, but admit to being technologically dumb!

Are you sure you have an iPhone 3GS and not an iPhone 3G? Your symptoms are indicative of you actually having an iPhone 3G which cannot run anything more recent than iOS 4.2.1. Confirm that you do indeed have an iPhone 3GS:

I have 3 Dell laptops at home and I am unable to connect my iPad 1 to any of them using the USB cable.  If I connect the iPad to any Apple computer using the same USB cable, it works perfectly.  I have installed the latest versions of iTunes and iOS, but still no luck. Apple Store Geniuses helped me determine that it wasn't my iPad causing the problem, but were less helpful when it came to dealing with non-Apple devices.
    Options?

Does the OS see the iPad at all? In other words does it show up in either the My Computer or Device Manager?
I've had problems in the past where I had to modify the registry to get my son's iPod to sync with a particular HP laptop.
If it doesn't show up at all have your tried using an external hub (with or without power)?

Try rebooting your computer and reset the iPad. Press and hold both the Home button and the Sleep/Wake button continuously until the Apple logo appears. Then release the button and let the device restart. You will not lose data doing this. It's like a computer reboot.

  • Outlook 2007 after updates to iTunes and iOS: Task 'iCloud - Sending' reported error (0X80004005): 'The operation failed.'

Since updating to the latest iTunes and the latest iOS, I am now unable to send calendar invites, which is what I use to keep my personal calendar, iCloud calendar, Thunderbird calendar, and two different work address calendars in sync.
I've traced the problem to the inability of Outlook 2007 to send emails after the update.  I get the above error message when I try.
One thing I noticed is that the location of my iCloud inbox and outbox changed to a location under my Personal Folders as opposed to where it used to be, under iCloud.  I think the issue is with the creation of different *.pst files and their locations, and the settings that Outlook 2007 automatically picked up after the iTunes and iOS updates.
I'd like to fix this, but am not quite sure how.  I think it has to do with not being able to set the data file I believe to be the proper item as the Default.
I assume others have also experienced this issue.  If so, has anybody managed to solve it yet?  If you have, please share your solution.

Which ones?  Have you tried this one - iPod not recognized in iTunes and Mac desktop?
Please describe in detail all you have attempted to do in order to resolve the issue.

  • Did the itunes and ios updates and phone wont work.

    PLease help.
I did the itunes and ios updates and it came up with something about apple recovery mode.
The phone will not work and its not being recognised in iTunes.
What do I do? I think I may have made it worse because I've tried to reinstall the previous version of itunes as was suggested elsewhere.
    Thanks

    Any specific error messages?
Try switching off your seurity software and restore the device http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1808
NB: using that article will erase everything so make sure you have a backup
try restoring on another computer if this fails, and if that doesn't work either, the device needs hardware repair.

  • Homesharing only shows partial library since updating iTunes and iOS

Made mistake of updating iphone, ipad, and PC to latest versions of iTunes and iOS> Ever since then homesharing will only show partial iTunes library on ipad or iphone. Don't know if problem is with iTunes or iOS, or both.
I have tried remove and reinstall itunes on pc. I've tried turning homesharing on/off on all devices - sometimes it works once or twice and then next time I try to use homesharing it doesn't work again.

This is a recurring problem. The only solution I am aware of is to restore your device (both an iPhone5 and iPad2 in my case) to factory settings and then restore your data from your most recent backup. It will then share the entire library from your in your iTunes on your computer. However, after a few uses of the shared library on your device, the same problem will re-occur; at some point only a portion of the library will be shared, and you will have to re-do the restore routine.
Since this problem occurs on both my iPhone 5 and iPad2, I have concluded (for now, anyway), that this is a problem with iTunes, not with my devices.
I hope this admittedly cumbersome solution is helpful

  • TS3697 Many of my photos over 3,000 pixels will not sync.  I'm using latest updated iTunes and iOS.

Several of my large file size photos (over 3,000 pixel width) will mot sync, or sync but show different photos.  Using latest updated iOS and iTunes software.
After several calls, finally had sr. Tech support advise that there is a bug.  I have Windows 7 64 bit.
    When will this be fixed?

    Close your iTunes,
    Go to command Prompt -
(Win 7/Vista) - START/ALL PROGRAMS/ACCESSORIES, right mouse click "Command Prompt", choose "Run as Administrator".
    (Win XP SP2 n above) - START/ALL PROGRAMS/ACCESSORIES/Command Prompt
In the "Command Prompt" screen, type in
    netsh winsock reset
    Hit "ENTER" key
    Restart your computer.
If you do get a prompt after restart windows to remap LSP, just click NO.
Now launch your iTunes and see if the problem has been resolved.
If you are still having these type of problems after trying the winsock reset, refer to this article to identify which software in your system is inserting LSP:

  • HT1420 After updating to 11 for itunes and ios 7 for phone - I lost over 3500 songs from my itunes.  My ipod still has 4100 songs on it less the most recent ones I have purchased.  Can't my ipod be used to recreate the library in itunes?

After updating itunes to 11.1 and phone to ios7, I lost more than 3500 songs from my library. My ipod has 4185 songs less the most recent I purchased.
Is there no way an ipod can be used to restore the lost music?  Yes, some of it was from cds but were done a long time ago.  Obviously it was acceptable for me to compile this music then, now they want to say since it all wasn't purchased, I can't have what was already mine?  Plus I do not use nor want to use the cloud, but it keeps creeping up even though I don't want or use it.  HELP!

  • Redirected network drive, iTunes, and iOS 8.0.2

It took me two days to troubleshoot this problem.  I'm up and functioning again, but I thought I'd post this in case anyone else has the peculiar circumstances that broke my iTunes.  Systems:  Windows 8.1, iTunes 11.4.0.18, iPhone 5S 32GB.  Symptoms: after upgrade to iOS 8.0.2, iTunes sync would fail every time at the same point, after syncing Outlook contacts and calendar, after syncing music, at the point where it starts to sync apps.  I isolated it to that instant by doing a clean install of iOS and a clean install of iTunes, empty music library, one app ready to sync, start the sync, and boom!  Failed every time.  Ruled out any problem with the phone, to the point of trying it with an entirely new phone pre-loaded with 8.0.2.
I eventually found that if I set up a new Windows user and installed iTunes, it worked fine.  Then I realized that the key variable was redirection of the My Music folder.  We keep everything on a server that gets backed up regularly, with the Windows "My Documents" directory redirected to "\\server2\ldh\My Documents\" and Music redirected to "\\server2\ldh\Music\".  When I went back to my regular user account and removed that folder redirection, pointing it back to "C:\users\ldh\Music\", all was well.
No explanation for why music and contacts would sync but apps wouldn't.  The contacts reside in the redirected "My Documents" directory, and the music files reside in a network drive M: mapped to "\\server2\share\musicfiles\".  The apps reside in "...\Music\iTunes\Mobile Applications", as standard.
This didn't happen with iOS 8.0.1.  Everything was working fine until the 8.0.2 upgrade, and then after the upgrade every sync failed until I found the work-around.
My file server is running Ubuntu Linux 14.04.1 and Samba 4.1.6-Ubuntu.  I don't have a Windows server any more, so I can't say whether the the problem is stems from redirecting the Music folder per se -- if redirecting Music to a folder on a Windows server would have produced the same result -- or if it stems from some complex interaction among iOS, Windows, Samba, and Linux.  If the latter, that might explain why no one on any bulletin board seemed to have this problem.  But just in case there's a kindred spirit out there somewhere, I thought I'd document the issue.  Who knows, maybe Apple will even find the problem and fix it.

This is actually his is actiually a wider problem, with the introduction of iTunes version 14, Apple created a problem with accessing iTunes located on a network drive. This happened to me last year and 2nd Level support wasn't aware of the scale of the problem nor the level of angst in their own forms.
i Had to resolve my problem by physically mapping the network drive.
Now that I have had to rebuild my PC, my domain policies have automatically redirected the iTunes library.  tt worked ok on the day of installing iTune, but has not worked since.
ONe would have thought they they would have fixed this in the intervening period

  • Upgrading iTunes and ios

I am trying to upgrade my iOS to 5.1 from 4.3.  I get a message to first download a newer version of iTunes.  I download the file but when I install I get an error message.  I am in Panama so the message is in Spanish.  Here is the google translation:
errors occurred while installing the updates. If the problem persists, select type tools. Just download and install manually.
How do I install the upgrade manually?  I have found the files that were updated yesterday when I tried the upgrade but they do not install.
    Thanks

The music sync is one way - computer to iphone.  the ONLY exception is itunes purchases.
The songs from cd came from your computer in the first place, so they should still be there and should be included in your regular backup copy of your computer.

  • HT4623 itunes and ios 7

I downloaded ios 7 and now I cant get my phone to sync with itunes.  It says my phone needs version 11.1.  How do I get this?

You can either upgrade from within iTunes, or you can use the Apple Software Update, or go to www.apple.com/itunes/download and install.

  • How do I make that iTunes and iOS devices update the name of the devices?

I have two new Apple Tv's, changed the names, but they all appear in Airplay option as "Apple TV", not the names I gave them. So, basically by try and error method I have to figure out which one I'm at.
    Anyone knows?
The names are changed, I turned them off, unplugged them, restarted iTunes, iOS Devices, and nothing... they appear all three as "Apple TV"
Hope you can help me out. Thanks for your time!

I have the same problem, and I'm browsing forums as we speak looking for answers.  The only thing I've read is that some people have restarted their routers to reset naming issues they are getting on their network.  I'm going to give this is a shot to see if it fixes the problem.
I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the remote app, and it didn't work either.

  • I just have the option of books and apps, but not music and movies both on itunes and iOs devices.. why?

For anyone still wondering about this, reports today are that the UK won't see music in the cloud until Q1 2012 as negotiations have only just start with the Perfoamnce Rights Society. Slightly strange that licenses weren't done on a global level but it may be cash related. Apple apparently gave $150m to universal alone in advances

  • How do I recover uploaded songs from CD's after upgrading Itunes and Ios from external drive with older Itunes version?

I upgraded to the newest version of Itunes on a new PC and the latest version of the IOS operating system for my Iphone 3GS and lost all of my songs that were uploaded from CD's.
Prior to the upgrade I tried to synch and got a message that I need to save all purchases of songs and apps otherwise I would lose them.  I did and they saved.  However all of the music that I uploaded off of CD's were not transferred.  No matter what I did to get that music transferred from Iphone to Itunes prior to the upgrade it would not upload so I did the upgrade.  All of my apps and purchased Itunes successfully went back onto my Iphone but all of my music that I loaded into Itunes are gone from Iphone and Itunes.
I had saved all of my songs on an external drive in an older version of Itunes.  I would like to plug that in tonight and see if I can get those songs loaded onto my iphone but now am worried that it will try and synch what is on the Iphone into that version and erase all of my songs.  Also I am afraid that any newly purchased songs directly onto the Iphone will be lost if I get all of the old data back.
What do I need to do?

The music sync is one way - computer to iphone.  the ONLY exception is itunes purchases.
