Itunes and ipad not working

After installing Itunes 10.5, it shuts down when I plug in my ipad. My iphone is working fine, but not my ipad. I need to update the IOS on my ipad and must do this through itunes. Can somebody help me with this?

You will probably need to restore using Recovery Mode. You can read about it here.

Read the article before you try this.
Disconnect the USB cable from the iPad, but leave the other end of the cable connected to your computer's USB port.
Turn off iPad: Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the red slider appears, then slide the slider. Wait for iPad to turn off.
If you cannot turn off iPad using the slider, press and hold the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons at the same time. When the iPad turns off, release the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons.
While pressing and holding the Home button, reconnect the USB cable to iPad. When you reconnect the USB cable, iPad should power on.
Continue holding the Home button until you see the "Connect to iTunes" screen. When this screen appears you can release the Home button.
If necessary, open iTunes. You should see the recovery mode alert that iTunes has detected an iPad in recovery mode.
Use iTunes to restore iPad.

    I have not tried that...I will look up the process so that I can do it correctly (and still transfer all of my files, contacts, etc).  Any suggestions?  What is the advantage of restoring as a new device..is this more akin to a complete wipe of a hard drive?

    You are not addressing Apple here.  The software is not mine.  When you signed up to this forum you no doubt saw that it is a USER forum and we are all users like you.  Now if you can put your ranting aside and ask your question clearly you might get some kind user to volunteer a solution for you

  • Iphone and ipad not working with USB3?

    for some 3 months now, when I connect my iphone or ipad to the pc nothing happens.
    I tried to look it up in the device manager and it said: Apple Mobile Device USB Driver is an older USB device and might not work with USB3.0
    Plug the device into an available USB2.0 port and click next. Otherwise, click cancel.
    Anyone had the same problem? Any solution that doesn't require being a computer engineer?

    I used to simply plug the iphone or ipad and a folder will open giving me choices of what to do (open the device, copy pictures...) nothing happens anymore on both ipad iphone, I can't access them to copy the pictures, videos...

  • ITunes and iCloud not Working with Windows 7 64 bit ???

    I just got a new computer running Windows 7 64 bit. I installed iTunes 10.5.2.11 (64 bit). First error was 'The file "iTunes Library.itl" cannot be read because it as created by a newer verion of iTunes.' I closed iTunes and renamed iTunes Library.itl to iTunes Library.itl-old. Of course when I restarted iTunes, I didn't have a library but that was just a minor problem. iTunes created a new file named Library.itl.
    Now when I start iTunes it says 'A required iTunes component is not installed. Please repair or    reinstall iTunes. (-4204).' There's an OK button so I click OK. That error goes away and then the next error is 'This iPod cannot be used because the required software is not    installed. Run the iTunes installer to remove Tunes, then install    the 64 bit version of iTunes.'
    So I've uninstalled iTunes and reinstalled itunes about a dozen times. I downloaded it again to amke sure it was the latest version. Same errors every time. I uninstalled all my Apple stuff and reinstalled it. Same errors. Also, iCloud doesn't work. Error is "Application not found."
    So ***? iTunes won't recognize my iPod touch or my iPad 2. Tried two different cables. Suggestions???

  • Update 4.3.3 failed and ipad not working

    Hi All
    Just downloaded the update. When it tried to update the Ipad 2, it failed with an error msg. and now the Ipad just displays the USB Itunes icon and is not usable. This happened the first time I updated and had to bring to a shop. Is this something to be expected on every update? Is there a way to recover without bringing to an Apple store? Am using a PC w/ windows 7 btw.

    Of course it is not to be expected. Either something in your ipad was corrupted or the download corruoted. If the iPad is displaying the major clue of a USB plug and iTunes, just do it.  Fire up iTunes and plug in your iPad. As long as you have sensibly backed up, all should work itself out.

  • ITunes and AppStore not working

    Currently getting "Unknown Error" on iTunes when I try to purchase anything. It will then ask me to login again (when you do it just says Unknwon error again)
    Also on app store, I get "cannot connect to iTunes store". I have two Internet connections and my 3G connection, all don't work. I know my Password is correct (I logged into here) and I have both iPhone 4s and iPad 1 on different iOS versions (4.?? And 5.1) sO the only connection is Apples systems.
    Anyone else got this fault or know how to fix it?

    I have finally seemed to fix mine, in a rather strange way
    Logged into iTunes on my PC, checked around and checked everything was working.
    Then I attempted to check for updates on my apps (on my phone), which I lucky had one - although it didn't tell me which one. Clicked "Update All" and typed in my password. Then when I went back into the AppStore/iTunes it was working again.
    Hope this helps someone, I'm a Microsoft engineer and not so good with Apple equipment lol

  • Im trying to get my music from my external hard drive to my itunes and its not working. what should i do?

    i set up my moms new desktop mac a couple of weeks ago and i did the same thing i tried to do on my macbook but its not working, yet it worked on my moms mac. so i dont know what to do. i moved the file from the hard drive to the itunes folder. then went to itunes, file add to library and clicked on the folder but nothing happened. so i went back and moved the music folder to the automatically download to itunes folder and it didnt work. i even tried drap and dropping the folder directly into the itunes library. it went blue so i knew you could drop it in, but nothing happened. i dont understand how it worked on my moms mac but not mine.

    FIle>Add To Library. Select all the music on your external hard (Select all the artist folders) drive and hit OK. This will add all the music to your new Mac's iTunes library file.

    Place the iOS device in Recovery Mode and then connect to your computer and restore via iTunes. The iPod will be erased.

  • System Preferences, itunes and safari not working. Please Help?

    Whenever i click on system preferences whether it be in the applications folder or in the dock, the window doesn't show. my system preferences is partly working because the very top menu bar with the little apple sign changes its menus to suit what system preferences has like system preferences written next to the little apple.
    its the same with my itunes and my safari.
    my menu bar changes when i click on itunes and if i press the play button on my keyboard i can hear music but no windows are coming up
    the menu bars change as if the applications are open but no windows are coming up.
    if anybody has any idea as to why its doing this and how i can fix it, please tell me.

    Are you showing an signal when the SIM is inserted into the iPhone? Making calls and sending/receiving messages are two different things. Calls use the cellular side of things, messages uses data. I'm surprised that is all T-Mobile would do to check out your account is to test your SIM. What if they look at your account, is it provisioned correctly?
    You can try to reset the phone. Hold the sleep/wake and home buttons together until you see the Apple logo. The phone will reboot. See if it works. If not, try to reset network settings. Go to Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings. The phone will reboot. Check they if it is working. If not, then you can make an appointment with the Genius Bar at the Apple store, but I still lean heavily that the problem is with the carrier.

    I have iTunes 9.0.1 running on 10.6.1 on a MBP and I have just bought a new 5th generation iPod Nano.
    I have been trying to set up the iPod on my partner's account on my MBP. iTunes just freezes every time I plug in the iPod and needs a force quit. When I try to set it up on my account it is recognised straight away. I have also been able to set it up on a new account but I cannot find any way to stop iTunes freezing on my partner's account. Her account works perfectly otherwise.
    Strangely the iPod is seen by the Mac OS on my partner's account in that I can browse it in finder and the icon appears on the desktop. It is just iTunes on this one account that does not work.
    Any ideas?

  • Itunes and icloud not working in pakistan

    I am unable to log into my itunes and icloud account. It keeps saying verification failed. My password and username are correct.  Also whenever i try to view my photos I am unable to do so. The previews are black and when i tap on them it keeps saying loading to no end. Is it just me or is Pakistan as a whole experiencing this? Its a new ipad mini which i just bought. In about it says 0 pictures. what is going on with apple?

    I Have had the same problem. Updating apps or downloading apps from the App Store has been hit and miss. Also, I have found that iPhoto does not work properly. I have had a spinning wheel on my photos for over a week now. Apple have certainly stuffed this release up.

    I have had my music on itunes for quite some time. I went to play some music through itunes and the message I got was the song could not be played because the original could not be found. I have listened to the songs before and now it is giving me this message. I have 275 artists in itunes and I am only able to listen to 67. The other problem I have is I loaded some music onto itunes and only one out of the three transferred to my ipod.
    Any help with these issues would be greatly welcomed

    That message usually means that the songs have been either moved or deleted from the iTunes music folder, so iTunes can't access them. If you double click on one (as if to play it), you should see an ! by the song and a message asking if you would like iTunes to locate it.
    At a guess, I would say that's probably the reason some songs have not transferred to the iPod. If iTunes cannot find them, it cannot transfer them.
