ITunes and iPod album issue

Can anybody tell me why in iTunes it sorts albums disregarding 'the'. For example the album 'the man who' is sorted under 'm'. But while this is sorted like this in iTunes, on my iPod it counts 'the' as 't'. This is really annoying on my ipod because i have so many albums and i want to get to them quickly. I have looked over all the settings on my ipod too. Can anyone help?
Thanks,
R. McD

Hi, Rowan.
I was about to say That's odd when I checked my - admittedly antiquated - iPod and realized that's the case for me as well.
I suppose I hadn't realized because generally I don't access my music by Album on the iPod.
I realize that's not a solution but it leads me to suggest a workaround. Perhaps you could trying accessing the music on your iPod via the Artists entry on the Music menu (Music > Artists > artist's albums) and see if that's a more efficient method than getting bottlenecked by all the The albums under the Albums entry.
Other than that, all I can suggest is you share your thoughts with Apple via their suggestion box .

  • Win 8.1 - ITunes and Ipod Touch issues

I am running a new Envy TS notebook with Windows 8.1. I upgraded (1/23/14) to iTunes 11.1.4.62. After installation I encountered the procudure entry point error when attempting to start itunes. Per an Apple discussion group, I did the following:
Copy QTMovieWin.dll from c:\Program Files (x86) Common Files\Apple\Apple Application Support
    and paste intoc:\Program Files (x86) \ iTunes
This enabled iTunes to start but would not recognize my ipod. In Windows explorer, my ipod was listed only as Apple Ipod. I followed the recommendations to upgrade drivers to no avail. Finally I went to the control panel to uninstall the following Apple programs:
    Apple Mobile Device Suport
    Apple Application Support
    iTunes
I then reboted the system and reinstalled iTunes and rebotted the system once again after installation.
Windows explorer now recognized my ipod as well as iTunes. In fact, now when I plug my ipod in a USB port, itunes automatically starts up and performs a sync with the ipod touch. Haven't had that happen for quite some time.

    Hi JPM and Mlisowski ,
I-pods are the great mashines , but seem that some of the apple software do some mess in the win registries. They are running in the backround slowing a computer , and some times can do that Your other devices as a DVD reader just disapieres.
By my personaly experience , You can thry to use other (more windows friendly) free software to sincronyse Your i-pod,
and You may considere to check this  page

  • ITunes and iPod Classic issues

I have a 120gb classic iPod. About a week ago, I got the red x. So I restored my it. Then anytime my iPod was plugged in, iTunes froze until I unplugged my ipod and then it went back to normal. I've read forum after forum and here's what I've done.
    - Reformatted and restored my iPod
    - Run diagnostic tests (All normal)
    - Uninstalling and reinstalling itunes
    - basically everything these forums say.
Now! My iTunes will work with my iPod plugged in. And I can even sync some songs. For instance, I synced about 400, used my ipod for a few days (working fine) but when I went to plug it in today, it reset everything and removed all the music I had put on there. I can sync some songs (it's never a finite amount)
and then itunes freaks out and gives me an error code (never the same one). This is ridiculous. I have the latest version of iTunes (10) so I'm not sure what's going on. Also my iPod just ran out of warranty maybe a week ago. Can anyone help me?! I don't know what else to do!

*Check your iPod with Diagnostics Mode*
It's possible that your iPod's hard drive has started to fail. Take your iPod and place your right thumb on the centre SELECT button and your left on the top MENU button. Press down both thumbs for about 6 seconds until your iPod reboots. Immediately move your left thumb around to the rewind button |<< on the left and hold this down together with SELECT for a further 6 seconds. Your iPod should now switch into Diagnostic Boot mode. Press MENU for *Manual Test*, then select *IO > HardDrive > HDSMARTData* to reveal your stats. For comparison here are mine for my 2 year old 6th Generation Classic:
    Retracts: 889
    Reallocs: 12
    Pending Sectors: 0
    PowerOn Hours: 2202
    Start/Stops: 894
    Temp: Current 24c
    Temp: Min 10c
    Temp: Max 50c
Take a note of your results. When finished press *SELECT & MENU* for 6 seconds to reset the iPod again.
With modern disc drives sectors are no longer marked bad by a disc scan, if the SMART firmware detects a sector it has trouble accessing it will attempt to invisibly reallocate it to a spare area of the disc.
Note that I've only 12 remapped sectors and none pending. To help explain what the numbers mean here is an extract from the Wikipedia S.M.A.R.T. article:
    *Reallocated Sectors Count*
Count of reallocated sectors. When the hard drive finds a read/write/verification error, it marks this sector as "reallocated" and transfers data to a special reserved area (spare area). This process is also known as remapping, and "reallocated" sectors are called remaps. This is why, on modern hard disks, "bad blocks" cannot be found while testing the surface – all bad blocks are hidden in reallocated sectors. However, as the number of reallocated sectors increases, the read/write speed tends to decrease. The raw value normally represents a count of the number of bad sectors that have been found and remapped. Thus, the higher the attribute value, the more sectors the drive has had to reallocate.
    *Pending sector count*
Number of "unstable" sectors (waiting to be remapped, because of read errors). If an unstable sector is subsequently written or read successfully, this value is decreased and the sector is not remapped. Read errors on a sector will not remap the sector (since it might be readable later); instead, the drive firmware remembers that the sector needs to be remapped, and remaps it the next time it's written.
Large numbers of Reallocs or Pending Sectors would suggest your drive is failing and that you may need to repair or replace your iPod. Check your stats after another attempt to update your iPod. If the numbers increase that again points to hard drive failure. While it won't be good news at least you'll know it isn't some random software problem and you can decide what to do next.

  • Artwork shows ok in itunes and ipod album view but not in ipod when song plays

    Hi...
I've noticed somethig wierd with my ipod classic 160GB (v1.1.2).
I have an album with correct artwork. All songs have their artwork. iTunes shows this ok, when getting info song by song.
When I go to the album in ipod, I can see the artwork next to the album name.
When I actually play the album, the first song, the artwork appears ok.
From the second song on, artwork will not be displayed.
Any idea why this could be happening? I noticed this for several albums.
    Regards,

  • ITunes and iPod Sort Album Erroneously

I have an album (Barnaked Ladies Maroon) that has the tracks ordered in the correct order when I select 'Album by Artist', but nothing else will give me the correct order. I specified the correct order in 'Get Info', and I made sure the information under the 'Get Info' window was the same for every track (that's what has fixed this issue in the past; if there were tracks with diffferent information under the 'Get Info' window, iTunes and iPod would mess up the order). I have tried reentering the information for all tracks at once, and it's all accurate except Track 12 is between Track 3 and 4 instead of after Track 11. That's as close as I can get (the default was a complete mess:12,1,3,2,5,10,6,4,9,13,7,11,8). No other album is like this. Can anyone explain this?

I have this issue.  Album artwork was totally fine before.  After this update, it is all messed up and even got messed up when transferred to my iphone.
iTunes doesn't have the artwork anymore, but then iPhone has it but shows wrong artwork with wrong albums.
    Please fix!

  • Accessibility of iTunes and iPod for Blind users

In any of the updates to Itunes or Ipod has the ability to use the product by the Blind been considered? Being a Low-Vision/Blind user I think accessibilty has gotten worse instead of better. This is not just an Itunes on Windows Issue. Itunes on the Mac barily works with VoiceOver
In 7.0.X here are a few things that broke.
    1. The Album flipping view mode cause Screen Magnifiers to have problems with Overlay and the Album art is not magnified.
    2. No way to navigate the Itunes store if you are totally blind. Why not just let us browse it in Internet Explorer or Firefox and then download afterwords into Itunes.
    3. Standard methods for navigating Menus, Tree Views (source list / playlist side) do not work always and some times have very unexpected results.
There are very easy ways to fix this. As you are updating the application make sure that each control or widget gets its own MSAA information. On the Mac side make your developers actually follow your own standards for accessibility even if it means rewriting the program. Well they are at it they can fix most of iLife and Pages.
Now onto the Ipod 3g 4g 5g and the Nano 1g and 2g, These devices with some practice can be used by a blind person if they are setup correctly by someone sighted. Thats all well and good except if you just went out and bought a shinny new 80gb Ipod and now don't know how to navigate it. Well the solution to this is actually very easy. Durring startup it could play a quick set of clicks to let a blind user know it is doing something. Then once it is up and running the menu system could playback via the headphones recorded speech files stored in directory already on the shinny new Ipod. Something like "Main Menu" "Music", the user slides their finger around the wheel one spot to the right and "AudioBooks" and so on. Now your question comes to artists and genra's and Album titles. This could be a feature of the new ITunes 7.1.x where when you are syncing your Ipod it goes to the iTunes store and gets the appropiate audio files needed. or using the Very Nice Apple TTS makes the files on the fly and stores them. You say this would use up space on the Ipod, well yes it would and you could make so a sighted user could turn it off until the iPod resets or they if they are really cramped for space could remove the directory with the sounds in it, but restoring the iPod would put these features back in place. These features have more use then just for the blind, who are highest population for buying audio content be it Unabridged audio books, CD's, or from online sources. Once these features are out in the general public and touted as be available you will have the busy business traveler to the jogger using them, epecially when it is not appropriate to take your eyes from something else, like driving. A driver could just reach down and touch the iPod and press the menu key and here "Music Menu", "PlayLists". Now we click the center button and our drivers heres "Gym Workout" clicks the wheel around to the right and heres "Peaceful Drive". He/She press the play button and heres "Playing, Peaceful Drive, 15 items in list" now this next part whould need to be toggleable on and off, while the iPod is cueing up the song it could say the song name and artist but this could be distracting.
Now if you really got brave with this project you could just add the TTS (Text to Speech) program into the Ipod. It would probably only take as much space as the new games you are selling for the 4g 5g and nano's. I know the Ipod has enough processer power. If it can play compressed video it could be executing a speech synthesizer in the background. With the dropping cost of the iPod I can see you may have to make this an add-on. That would be fine but include like a ten-day trial period with each new firmware update and have it on by default. This way allowing the user base to have time to see what it can do for them. If this is the choice then it should be a very inexpensive addon. Like in the $40 range. With the very extinsive userbase of Ipod's out there the Return on Investment should be very quick. if just 10% of the 300,000 blind people in the USA bought it, that equals 30,000 times $40 equals $120,000. This is not including the Learning Disabled, general poplulation, and people in foriegn countries who would love to have the stuff read it them. Now back to the blind, currently the devices made for the blind that are "accessible" cost from $400 and up that can play digital content not burned to a CD. So, if this was made for the Nano 2g a blind person could spend $200 on the device and $40 on the speech after the ten-days are up or they are coming close. The are still ahead by $160. Now if the person is a eclectic listener like my self then I would buy the 80gb unit at $350 and add the speech for $40 and have all the space I needed for my music, books, and my recordings I do with the Belkin recorder.
Another feature that should be looked into is the ability to play Daisy Content from Recordings for the Blind and Dislexic http://www.rfbd.org This is the new style of releasing text books to those you can not read regular print. They are stored on a CD in mp3 format with a encryped index. Now this type of thing is not a problem since you already have support for your own and Audible's digital rights management in iTunes and adding another method would not be that hard. An iPod Nano 4gb could hold 6 to 8 books for a Grade School, Middle School, High School, or College student. That would be greate, one small device to play content and no worrrying about what Cd the chapter is on or where you put the CD's, and not having to carry around a CD player just for the books. Also an iPod has become common place enough to not be notices.
    Shawn,
This will be cross posted to my blog and to the Ipod Forum here. My Blog is located at http://wizardwlf.spaces.live.com

My goal is not to directly influience Apple. I am trying to influiece you the customer to write feedback to Apple, if not on your own behalf, for your family member who is blind/low vision, a blind co-worker at your office, a friend of a friend even. Apple will see my one comment in feedback and say he is just an extremist and being it is just one comment just ignore it becuase their are much cuter things some marketing person wants them to do. They may just respond with use the Shuffle it doesn't have a screen. Why should the blind be limited to 1GB of space?
So here is your chance. Talk to your friends who use the Ipod/Itunes, talk to the manager at your local Apple store, tell them all to think about what they could do with a talking iPod, let alone the accessibility this would give the blind.
The Mimico Kid wrote this in the iTunes Windows Forum
    Shawn,
I did a quick search of the Apple web site and found a fair bit of information on accessibility issues for the Mac OS X operating system in general (you might want to have a look here if you're interested) but couldn't find anything relating to iTunes for Windows in particular.
Since Apple has set up these forums for users to help one other with their problems, there isn't much we can do as far as acting on your suggestions. You might want to submit your comments directly to Apple by filling out the forum on this page: http://www.apple.com/feedback/itunesapp.html .
    All the best!
    I wrote back:
Yes that is a pretty advertisement page for the Tiger Accessibility and for the accessibilty of the hardware.
But what is missing is the same page for iTunes and iPod. Those two products which right now are Apple's Hot market. They do not even train the sales staff in the Apple Stores to use and demonstrate these features to a parent / spouse/ child of someone with a disability.
VoiceOver is great in the finder and terminal and mostly works in Safarie and Mail. It mostly works in system dialog boxes but forget AppleWorks, GarageBand, Microsoft Office. The ProTools folks are actually working on making that program work with VoiceOver even better.
My best recommendation to anyone on this forum who is a Mac User. Use SearchLight to find VoiceOver. Now read some of the documentation to get the gist of how it works. Once you have done this, Start VoiceOver and turn off your screen. Try using the keybard commands you just learned or even the ones you think you know in iTunes. You will find it extremely hard to navigate.

    Hello, BAHannebaum.
The article below should resolve any device not being recognized in iTunes issue that you are experiencing.  The most common issues are the Apple Mobile Device Support driver or iTunes is outdated.  Start with the first step and test the results after each step processed.

  • ITunes and iPod Classic Freeze: How Can I Avoid It???

Sorry if this should have been a part of the longer iTunes and iPods freeze discussion string.
My 80g Classic is in the mail and due to arrive on Friday. I ordered directly from Apple (for the engraving but obviously not as easy to return).
After reading all the discussion about the iTunes freezing issue I have a few questions of my own:
I have Windows 2000 at work, Windows XP on desktop at home and Windows Vista on my laptop. My entire library (combination of original home desktop, smaller work library and a few songs even purchased on laptop) is on external hard drive that I use with laptop.
Which computer should I connect my new iPod to first? My preference is work since the iPod is being shipped here. It arrives on Friday and I want to start using it on a road trip on Saturday.
I'm a Manage Manually kind of guy especially since I have music on three different authorized computers.
Any tips or suggestions that you think will help me PRIOR to actually trying to connect iPod with iTunes would be greatly appreciated!

NO answer is my answer. I guess I can't avoid it. Thankfully I learned to look at the box that says not compatable with Windows 2000.
I'm going to give it a shot with Windows Vista. I have latest iTunes on laptop and my old 60g Photo connects just fine.
Best of luck to us all!

My iphone 3gs wont update. itunes and ipod touch update no problem, my GF has exact same phone and hers updated also...any advice?

If I was in your shoes, I would choose to restore the iPhone with iTunes and then choose to NOT restore a previous backup.  I'd then go on to set up the phone as though it were totally new, and choose the stuff to load onto it.
The reason I'd go through that trouble.. even though it meant losing a lot of settings and having to set stuff up again .. is because I wasn't sure I could trust the backup that it's restoring from.
If you have trouble again after doing the fresh reload -- especially if it's soon after you do it -- you may have a hardware issue with the phone, such as faulty flash memory or a processor chip that's failing. If that's the case, you'll want to consider your repair/replacement options at that point.

  • Due to a divorce all my music is on my iTunes and iPod. I had to buy a new computer and want to transfer my Library to the new computer. How can I do this without using an external drive and use new computer just like I do the old one? Thanks.

Due to divorce, all my music is on my iTunes and iPod. I have had to buy  a new laptop and want to transfer the library to the new computer before deauthorizing the old one. I dont want to have to use an external drive every time I want to listen to my music. How can I do this and have the same basic iTunes setup as before? HELP!

You might consider itunes match for moving CDs you've copied into your itunes library if you dont have a way to use home sharing.
iTunes match is an optional service offered by apple that costs about $25 a year.  It scans your music library and if it finds music that is already in apple's itunes catalog it'll automatically "unlock"/"store" these in the cloud for you.  Items that it does not find in the catalog it'll upload and store these in the cloud for you and you can download them on your devices.  See http://www.apple.com/itunes/itunes-match/

  • Some features I would love to see in iTunes and iPod

I love iTunes and iPod. For me they both have worked flawlessly. As good as they are, I would love to see a couple features added.
I would love to have iTunes and my iPod sync the songs that the iPod played since its last updating into the song count in iTunes in orer to have a more accurate idea of my most listened too songs.
I listen to an online radio station that uses aacPlus streaming, I would love to see iTunes support aacPlus streaming.
and last of all but not least of all, in addition to the EQ presents in the iPod, i would like to have an actual EQ with 7 frequency areas that one can adjust asccording to their taste and an actual setting called loudness that adds that extra bit to the punch of the sound.
I'm not sure if this is the right place to write for wishes such as I have mentioned above, but I guess that I have to have a place to start somwhere so here it is.

"I would love to have iTunes and my iPod sync the songs that the iPod played since its last updating into the song count in iTunes"
It does already do this... unless you use manual updating. Under auto updating, tracks played on your iPod should up the count in iTunes on your next sync.

All of my playlists made on my Ipod touch 3rd gen keep disappearing when I sync it to itunes. Drivng me crazy. All software up to date on both itunes and Ipod. Help please.
I tend to make my playlists right on my ipod. This did not happen for the last 2 years. Just started recently. Did get a new computer recently.

That is because you got a new computer. You can only sync all media from one syncing computer. You can sync from any computer to iPod using the manual method but that does not sync from iPod to computer.
To make this your syncing computer:

I recently had to install a new hard drive in my computer. This caused me to have to reload all content back to my iTunes and iPod. I have many apps on my iPod and i don't know how to transfer those back to my iTunes. Can anyone help?

Right clicking on your ipod in the device list an d choosing "transfer purchases" will copy apps and bought media from iTunes to your computer. Due to the new iTunes library on your new HD, iTunes will erase your ipod during the first sync. To save your data to the computer take a look at this article about saving data from your device to a computer: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4137
Basically it's backing up manually, transferring her purchases (apps and bought music), letting iTunes erase the ipod due to the new iTunes library, and restoring from the manual backup again, to get all the data and settings back.
Make sure your new computer account is authorized in iTunes. Disable autosync in itunes, connect your ipod, right click on it in the device list and choose backup.
This will save data, pictures and settings to itunes. See what's included in this backup here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1766
Transfer your purchases the same way to copy all apps and bought media from the Store to your computer.
Set up at least one contact and event on your computer to be able the merge your calendars and contacts after your ipod got wiped during the first sync.
The rest of the data can be restored from the backup you made.
    Restoring: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1414
Music is one way only, from the computer to your device, unless you bought the songs in itunes and transferred your purchases.
There is 3rd party software out there, but not supported by Apple, see this thread: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2013615&tstart=0

  • ITunes and iPod updater won't recognize iPod

I'm running Windows XP and it shows the iPod is there but it won't show up in iTunes and iPod updater after 'initializing' for a good 5-10 minutes says either 'could not recognize the iPod' or if it does let me restore give the 'Firmware update failure. Diskwrite error.' I have the latest iTunes and iPod update and went through all the steps in the 'Windows recognizes iPod but iTunes does not' Troubleshooting help section. All these problems started when I tried to update with the new iPod updater software and got an error, everything worked fine before. I have also tried using a friends USB cable the problem is obviously in the Nano itself. Is there any way to safely format without using the iPod updater? or what should I try doing next?
Also it seems like when the nano isn't plugged into a power source it drains the battery, with nothing showing on the screen because it always starts charging when I hook it up to the computer even though it was fully charge before.
    Thanks for any help.

    Hello,
I too am having this exact same problem. My iPod nano was working perfectly until this "latest update" Since I installed that update my itunes and my ipod updater will NOT recognize my iPod. I am getting all the same error messages as you.
I have done EVERYTHING recommeded in the support pages. Reinstall, uninstall, install, reboot I've done it all a hundred times. I have over 5 pages of support documents I printed up and I followed them to the T. I have 10 different USB ports including 3 2.0 USB ports. My windows recognizes the iPod instantly, but the updater will not.
I 'm starting to think it's a problem with the update software.
Please, if anybody has any advice other than "www.apple.com/support/ipod" please post something. I have had my Nano since October and never had a problem with it and I really, really miss it right now.
    Thanks
