Itunes and match

I used match to transfer my iTunes from old pc to new macbook pro.  I deleted all songs from iPod.  Now I am trying to get the music from my new macbook to my ipod and it is not working.  Help?

Hi,
Did you transfer the music to you new Macbook? If not, you will need to download your music to the Macbook. For Ipod sync to work, the music must be on your Hard Drive.

  • How do I copy my iTunes library of 17,000+ songs to a new PC so that iTunes and Match recognize it's there?

I've just downloaded iTunes (version 11.2.0.115) to a brand new PC laptop. I use iTunes Match to share my library of over 17,000 songs between devices, but I like my laptop to be my media hub, and I store a full copy of my entire library on it's hard drive. Obviously, manually downloading that many songs from the iCloud to my new laptop by clicking one at a time over 17,000 times would be incredibly tedious, and I have a life I need to attend to.
So my question is, what's the best way for me to copy my entire music and movie library to my new laptop so that both iTunes itself recognizes it's there, and Match recognizes that the file exists locally on my machine?
I've tried test-dropping song files into iTunes, but it just shows them as new, duplicate files to the identical ones stored on the iCloud rather than recognizing the redundancy and making the proper associations. I also tried just copying files directly into the iTunes Music folder, but iTunes doesn't recognize they're there and of course neither does Match. There must be a simple way to do this...
    Thanks for your help!

Well nevermind! It appears that if I just add my entire music library and run a Match update, it ends up making the associations and showing the tracks as being stored in my local music library.

  • Security in iTunes and Match.

    Hi All,
A quick query on security within iTunes and something I have become increasingly wary about.
I love iTunes match and the whole icloud thing, with close to 10,000 strong library now available in the atmosphere to multiple devices.
As a result I’ve been able to donate most of my cd library to good homes after they have been imported.
One thing that does concern me is the apparent lack of security in iTunes or in iTunes match.
For example, if someone had access to my laptop or stole it and booted up iTunes (PC), they could quite easily erase the contents of the library/icloud without being prompted for a password or other security.
It would simply be a case of “ticking the box” that said also remove from icloud.
That way you library is gone and the core medium that you imported if from is also gone.
You have therefore no way to rebuild you library unless you originally purchased it all through the store.
Putting a password on match/icloud prior to deletion would seem the logical way?
I do hope Apple will address in due course, however f I’m missing something or anyone can point me in the direction of imp[roving my ITunes security it would be greatly appreciated.
    Simon.

Another screwy album is "Time Traveler" by The Moody Blues.  It has 4 CDs and a "Bonus" CD in the album.
iTunes Store shows it as a single CD album.
In iTunes, it shows up as two albums: The first contains Disks 1, 3, 4, and 5, while the second is Disk 2.
Initially it loaded up as a bunch of separate albums, which I corrected by saying they're all parts of a Compilation. I also had to load the artwork manually.  But I cannot get them to show up all as a single album.
I wish there were a way to tell iTunes to "merge" multi-CD albums into a single album on iTunes. I've got several of them, and it's annoying that iTunes regards each CD of a multi-CD album as separate albums.

  • ITunes and Match not syncing properly across devices

I have a Mac Mini, a Macbook Pro, and an iPod Touch, all less than 1 year old, meaning they're all the latest generation products.  I also have the latest version of iTunes installed (V11, I believe).
I hooked up an external CD drive to my Mac Mini and I've been loading in my CD collection.
I'm rather amazed at the number of albums where iTunes cannot find album artwork.  It also gets really confused on multi-CD albums that it can't seem to find on iTunes.
For example, Billy Joel's "Greatest Hits" album, which is a 2 volume set.  On the iTunes store, it's listed as a single CD.  So iTunes cannot find the freaking albums if you load them in as two CDs.  ***?
I manually added cover artwork to both.  But Match only downloaded Vol 2 onto my iPod Touch. It loaded both albums to my MacBook but not the artwork for Vol 1.
When I connect the iPod to my MacBook or Mac Mini, it's impossible to download Vol 1 of this album onto the iPod.  In fact, iTunes thinks Vol 1 *IS* on the iPod, when it's actually Vol 2 that's on the iPod.
When there are obvious errors between iTunes and my iPod, I can find no way of fixing them.  I can't delete the albums through iTunes because it's already confused about what's on the iPod.  I can't do anything on the iPod side.  And Match is oblivious to the errors.
I have reset my iPod twice now, removing all content and reinitializing it. Match pushes down whatever it thinks is there, errors and all, and there's no way to make any corrections that I can find.
I've also got lots of albums that are not available on iTunes.  I can't find any explanation of what Match does when this happens; all I've found is descriptions saying that when you load your albums with Match activated, it will download the songs to all of your other machines in 256-bit AAC encoding.  If an album isn't on Match, iTunes cannot find the artwork, and often Match won't download the artwork either, because I'm guessing it's looking for it on iTunes.  The artwork shows up in iTunes, but it can't be forced down to the iPod.  So I get a big grey question mark.  You can lookup an album in the iTunes store, but you can't tell iTunes "this is the album I've got".  If there's not an exact match in some of the metadata, you can't get them to sync up.
Many songs I have uploaded as parts of entire albums on my Mac Mini won't download onto either my iPod or my MacBook.  I get a generic (and useless) warning saying "iTunes cannot download the song you've selected".  Nonetheless, these songs ARE on my Mac Mini, the CAN be played, and there's no way I can find to tell iTunes to RE-UPLOAD them.  In most cases, these songs tend to be the first song on the album.
I don't understand what is so complicated about all of this that the metadata for the albums has to be so tightly controlled and that there's no way of pushing updates to metadata down to the iPod, or even correcting it on the iPod directly.  I'd guess that iTunes uses the metadata to sync everything.  But when there's a discrepancy between a physical album and what's on iTunes Store, there's nothing that can be done about it on the customer's end because it seems that "iTunes Store Rules"

  • ITunes and Match not playing Apple Store purchases all the way through

Hi!  I recently noticed that several (but not all) of the m4p songs on my computer will not play all the way through, with the music ending 30 seconds to 2 minutes before the end of the song.  I decided to try Match thinking this would solve the problem (since they were purchased from Apple, Match is supposed to provide a clean copy, right?), but the songs cut off at the exact same point through Match as well.  On my computer the song ends abruptly and switches to another.  On my phone, with Match, the song either stays blank as it counts down the rest of the track or switches to another one while the information on the first song stays on screen until the point where it should have ended.
For a specific example: Ryuichi Sakamoto's Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence off the album 1996 is a classical m4p.  iTunes stops playing it 1:45 from the end. The stop and start times are listed correctly. It played correctly when I first purchased it from the Apple store in 2005.
Any help fixing this problem would be appreciated.

I finally found some answers. I guess the problem is related to moving protected AACs to a new computer.  If anyone else is haivng this trouble, the solution can be found at:

  • ITunes and iCloud are two accounts. Is this bad?

I have an old iTunes account from my first Mac when the icon was green.
Then I got a .mac account with all sorts of features like iWeb.
It turned into something else or maybe it was something else but either way it became iCloud .
So now I have two accounts that don't interact and I think they are supposed to?
Is that right or is it normal to log into your iTunes and Match account with different ID and password from your iCloud account?
Just wondering if Yosemite is going to not behave correctly when I get it.?
    thanks

Maybe I should post this somewhere else?
    iTunes for mac?
    iCloud?

  • Itunes match has removed my playlists from itunes and my iphone. Not only that, many of the songs 'matched' on itunes do not show up on my iphone. Seriously annoyed, wish I'd never paid for it

Please read the title; itunes match has removed my playlists on itunes and iphone and the songs that are supposedly 'matched' on itunes are not showing up on my iphone.
    Any Really annoyed about this

iTunes Match does not have the ability to remove local files.
The service operates by comparing the selected iTunes Library with the iTunes Store content and 'matching' or 'uploading' - it is very straightforward a 'match' provides equivalent access to iTunes Store content as a recognised 'purchase'; upload simply copies a 256k AAC variant into the cloud.  There are no elements of this activity that can erase the local library content.
Would suggest you explore possible alternative causes of file loss.  Given the pattern described of selective deletion, leaving many Songs intact - would suggest making at least 2 secure offline Song file backups and starting the library again from a fresh install of iTunes once a thorough sweep of the system has been completed for virus.  It is also worth assessing the physical security of the system - who has access & with what privileges.
To access Songs from the cloud, you would have to manually delete the Song from the library or open an empty library - so even when accessing content, iTunes Match provides no local deletion capability.

  • I have an iphone 6 with the most recent iOS.  iTunes Match is on.  Music app only showing songs purchased on iTunes and no playlists are displayed.  Just happened when updating iTunes Match.  Solutons?

I have an iPhone 6 with 64 GB of memory.  I have iTunes Match turned on my account and on the phone.  Suddenly, the Music app is only displaying music purchased directly from iTunes and no playlists are displayed.  This occurred after updating iTunes Match on my PC; when new music did not appear, I turned off iTunes Match off/on the PC then did the same on iPhone 6.  It looks like iTunes Match is trying to do a full download to the phone but it never completes.  Ideas?

  • Itunes in my mac and itunes in my mac book pro do not share the same number of songs, isn't icloud and match supposed to solve that problem?

Um, not really. What are you trying to accomplish?

  • My iTunes is creating duplicates of playlists and hanging up. running latest version of lion, and iTunes using match and iCloud. please help. I have uninstalled and reinstalled iTunes.  deleted all library files and is doing same thing.

I am runing lion and latest version of itunes.  I have match on, home sharing on and using icloud.  my itunes started hanging up and required me to force quit.  then upon restart of itunes and restart of computer itunes would take upwards of 15 minutes to open and was using >90% of CPU and would be lagging in response if responding at all one of the playlists I had created on my ipad had over a hundred copies of the same playlist.  after repeated restarts I uninstaled itunes and reinstalled.  this didnt rectify the problem.  I assumed library file had somehow become corrupt so I deleted library files, reimported all my music and synced with genius and match.  and let the computer go over night. when I woke in morning all my music was back but I had all the extra playlists again and itunes is hogging all the cpu and was minimally responsive and hanging up after each click.
I thought this might be a virus or something but installed ESET cypersecurity did a complet scan with no threats found.  I am at a total loss and do not know where to go from here.  I hope one of you can assist.  Thanks!

I had this exact issue.  Spent over an hour on the phone with apple support, they couldn't resolve.  Here is what I ended up doing, that worked.
    1.  Turned iTunes match off on all my iOS devices
    2.  Deleted the offending playlists from the iOS device they originated on
    3.  Started iTunes, let it run (literally) for an hour before it became responsive.  First thing I did, before clicking anywere else was disable iTunes match.  If I clicked anywhere, it would clock for another hour.
    4.  Let iTunes run overnight, by morning it had cleaned out the repeating play lists.  This got my Mac/iTunes back to an operable state.
    5.  Restore iPhones from backup in iTunes.
What was causing my issue was a single playlist that was created on an iPhone, then suddenly showed up with several thousand duplicates on my other iPhone.  The culprit playlist did not, for some reason, duplicate itself on my two iPads.  Apple support seemed to think it was because the problem iPhone tried to sync the playlist to iCloud over and over again unsuccessfully, then it finally went through and populated the thousands of blank/failed playlists which then tried to propigate to iTunes and my other iOS devices.  Seems like a reasonable theory.
I have not yet re-enabled iTunes match.  So, no idea what will happen if I decide to go back down that rabbit hole.

The same is true for photo's.  I have too many photo's on my phone taking up space.  Now I realize I can remove a lot of the photo's via sync options, but ...

This can happen if iTunes gets confused about what is and isn't on the device. These steps should resolve.
    Backup the device.
    Restore as a new device.
    Restore the backup made earlier.

  • I accidentally deleted my media files from iTunes and Trash when I was trying to move the files to an external hard drive. Is there a way to restore the media files from a Time Machine backup or from iTunes Match? What are the steps to do this?

I accidentally deleted my media files from iTunes and Trash when I was trying to move the files to an external hard drive. Is there a way to restore the media files from a Time Machine backup or from iTunes Match? What are the steps to do this?

If you have been backing up on Timemachine.
All you need to do is enter time machine... Then the rest is obvious.
Find the iTunes folder and hit 'Restor'.
If not the only way to get all your iTunes music back is to enter iTunes Store.
On the right hand side you should see 'Purchased'.
Click 'purchased' and there you have it.
