ITunes and Quicktime don't work on Windows 7 64-bit

iTunes and Quicktime don't work on Windows 7 64-bit. I tried to uninstall and install the package according to Apple support article (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1923) but still the same problem. I even tried to stop the Bonjour, it didn't help either. When I try to run either iTunes or Quicktime I get a Windows error message "iTunes has stopped working", with details like this:
Problem signature:

Any suggestions?
Thanks.

Taken as a whole, the symptoms suggest that another application (other than QuickTime itself) has stashed old QuickTime componentry in your system files.
So just in case we'll go looking for older QuickTime componentry in the most common locations for it to be stashed.
First we'll need to change some view settings.
In your Start menu, open Computer.
In your Organise menu, select Folder Options.
In the View tab, make sure that "Show hidden files and folders" is selected, and Hide extensions for known file types is unchecked.
Click OK.
Now in Computer, open your C:\ drive (or whichever drive you have your operating system installed on).
Open the "Windows" folder.
Open the "SysWOW64" folder.
What files and folders can you see in there with QuickTime in the title? (In a standard installation of Quicktime you should be seeing precisely two files... QuickTime.qts and QuickTimeVR.qtx ... and no QuickTime folders whatsoever.)

I received an ITunes and Quicktime update notice on my Windows 7 PC, from Apple this morning. During the update installation, RealPlayer installed. What gives? Why is Realplayer installing with the Apple software.

Thanks for the reply. I went back to check if there was a history in windows (Event Viewer) but could not locate it in Win7. The only updates that were in the Apple Updater window were the Quicktime and ITunes. Had I let the Realplayer continue on its own, it would have installed the Google Chrome and other apps. I let it finish installing and then removed the entire program. I do not remember checking or seeing anything saying that realplayer was being downloaded until after a reboot was requested from the ITunes Update Installer.
I just thought it was strange since I do not use Realplayer and have not downloaded any software for it.
I am on a corporate PC with a pretty thick firewall, but something may have slipped through.
    Thanks again for the assistance.

  • ITunes and QuickTime will not work..Yeah, another one

Despite my best efforts to try to solve my problem on my own and not both you kind people, I've been working on and off at trying to get my iTunes working, with no positive results at all. It's honestly been so long, I don't recall what might have sparked the issues, but every time I try to open iTunes or QuickTime they will begin to open but fail, bringing up the common windows error message:
iTunes has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.
QuickTime Player has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.
So far, I have totally deleted both iTunes and QuickTime twice from my computer- first just through Add/Remove Programs pathways, then more in depth with Registry Crawler to try to remove any traces of the programs- all before re-installing the two programs. Both times have failed, still leaving me unable to open either program, so I've broken down and come here- hoping to find anyone willing to lend a hand to help fix this issue so that I can finally listen to my music the way I used to.

    Perfect information, thanks.
That combination is almost always caused by some application stashing old QuickTime componentry down in your system files. (Codec packs and video converters are the usual suspects, although some Games might do it too.)
Let's go looking for the old stuff.
    1. Open My Computer from the desktop or Start menu.
    2. In the Tools menu, click Folder Options.
    3. Click the View tab.
    4. In the "Advanced settings" pane under "Hidden files and folders" make sure that the "Show hidden files and folders" option is selected, and the "Hide extensions for known file types" option is unchecked.
    5. Click OK.
Now in My Computer, open your C drive.
    Open the "Windows" folder.
    Open the "system32" folder.
What files and/or folders can you see in there with QuickTime in the file/folder name? (In a standard installation of QuickTime, you should see precisely two files ... QuickTime.qts and QuickTimeVR.qtx ... and no QuickTime folders whatsoever.)

  • ITunes and Quicktime don't play videos properly! HELP!

    I tried:
    - re-installing iTunes and Quicktime to both earlier versions

Anyone know whats wrong? Or does anyone have the same problem?

    Hello,
You can find additional information and troubleshooting steps from the following article: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2729
The symptom you mention is addressed in one of the FAQ's on the page.
Have you tried one of the free videos from the iTunes Store? You can find free video and music content on the iTunes Store. The "Free on iTunes" section is generally towards the bottom of the center column of the window.

  • ITunes radio links don't work on Windows 7

With the lastest iTunes upgrade to iTunes 1.1.3.8 on my Windows 7-based PC, Apple removed the only link on the iTunes Store that connected me to iTunes Radio. I've written to Apple support and was told it has to do with my firewall, but that's not true because  I restared my computer and tried the links again with no firewall running. The only application running was iTunes, and still all the links on the iTunes store pages to iTunes radio are dead. The only way I can access iTunes radio is by clicking on the iTunes guide link at the bottom of the page which opens a browser page with a link to iTunes radio. This works, but given the ineptitude of Apple on this matter, I suspect this link will eventually disappear, too. I first reported the radio's dead links a few days after iTune's launch, but the support team either isn't bothering to pass long bug reports to their developers or Apple doesn't care about those who use iTunes on Windows.
I don't own this computer, it's my employer's. Planned to buy a Mac when the time came to buy my own system, but I'm no longer confident that Apple delivers what for me was its best selling point, excellent customer care. Sad.

  • ITunes 5.0.1 installation -- iTunes and Classic don't work

I was downloading the latest updates a few days ago, which included iTunes 5.0.1. Unfortunately, my computer crashed as the iTunes file was downloading. After restarting, I downloaded iTunes 5.0.1 again.
Now, my iTunes just bounces once when I click on it, but it doesn't open. Also, all of my OS 9 Classic applications try to start up, but the message:
"Do you want to use Classic with less than the recommended amount of RAM? It is recommended that you have at least 128MB of RAM in your computer."
...pops up instead. Clicking 'continue' or 'cancel' causes Classic and my application to quit.
So, neither Classic 9 or iTunes 5.0.1 works for me right now. I've tried the fixing the disk permissions thing, and things still don't work. I've also tried to reinstall iTunes, but nothing seems to work.
I'm on an iMac G4 with 768MB DDR SDRAM and 1.25 GHz....and not able to listen to my music.

I am running 6.0.1.3. Every time a new version comes out, I install it immediately in hopes that it will support my cd drive.
gaah. a few of these were fixed by 6.0.0.18 and 6.0.1.3, but clearly not all ...
okay, i think it's best if we get you reposted over at "Importing & Burning in iTunes for Windows". (i'm not trying to get rid of you. it's just that i've only been able to vist there sporadically over the past few weeks, and i am well behind on the state of the art with dealing with your particular situation.)
include the following information in your post:
    (1) what the error message says (word for word if possible).
    (2) run your itunes "Help > Run CD diagnostics ..." and paste the complete results of that into your post.
    (3) if the CD diagnostics stops with the line "found aspi32 running", also include in that post the make and model number of your drive. to find that, right-click "My Computer", select "Manage", click "Device Manager" and expand the CD drives entry.
good luck with the CD gurus! (sorry, may not be able to get over there to check on your progress for a while.)

  • Satellite P200 (PSPBGA) - Fingerprint and webcam don't work on Windows 7

I am using a Satellite P200 (PSPBGA) and have upgraded from Vista to Windows 7 Ultimate 32bit.
However the Toshiba Fingerprint Utility and Chicony Web Camera Assistant Software both don't work. I have checked and there are no new updates on the Australian website.
Can you please help me out with these two issues?

    Hi Boarder
Thanks for your suggestions. I have tried the Vista drivers and the US Toshiba page, unfortunatley neither work.
I went to the Upek website for the bio finger print software which is two fold over the latest version supported by Toshiba for Vista. I'll wait to see if Toshiba bring out a version for Win7 as the one I downloaded is limited, otherwise I am happy to pay approx $15 for the full version.
I really need the webcam to function though. I think the driver is ok, just need the sofware to run the inbuilt camera.
    Cheers

  • Why Safari and QuickTime don't work on OS 10.3.9?

I have an old Mac G4 running OS 10.3.9.  Safari 1.3.2 does not work properly. Moreover QuickTime does not work at all. I cannot watch the movies on my website. I know my site is OK because everything works with a newer computer. What can I do to improve the situation? The interesting thing is that in the past everything worked fine. The problems started when I reinstalled the system and upgraded it to 10.3.9. Any help will be greatly appreciated. I also apologize for having posted the same question on the Safari forum. But I think the present forum is more appropriate.

When you reinstalled and upgraded to 10.3.9 you perhaps have not applied relevant updates to Java and Flash.
10.3 Panther barely works on the internet anymore so i am not suprised you are having problems.
You can check which Java version you have at the link below
    http://www.javatester.org/version.html
and I'd try another internet browser like Camino. It is 'less old' than Safari is on 10.3, but basically 10.3 has been left behind as far as the internet goes.

Click Software Update from your Apple menu. Make sure your software is up to date.

  • Itunes and quicktime do not work

When i open itunes, there is a message saying that error has occured, and itunes must be closed, but no error number has shown. When I visit website with quicktime, a message says that an error ocurred inside a plugin inside the page. I did an update quite a long time ago, but since then both software can't work again. I've tried to shut down the antivirus system(NOD32), installing and uninstalling many times.
      Windows XP

    I cant access the link!
    Ooops. Sorry about that.
Let's try some copy and paste work then.
Let's first try swapping out your QuickTime.
head into your Add/Remove programs. uninstall QuickTime.
Next, we’ll manually remove any leftover program files and folders.
    1. On the Start menu, click My Computer (or double-click My Computer on the Desktop).
    2. In My Computer, open Local Disk.
    3. Open Program Files.
    4. Right-click on the QuickTime folder and click Delete from the shortcut menu.
    5. Navigate to C:\Windows\system32\.
    6. Remove the files QuickTime.qts and QuicktimeVR.qtx.
    7. Restart your computer.
next, we'll get a fresh copy of QuickTime into your PC by doing a repair install of itunes.
switch off antivirus and antispyware applications prior to the repair install.
go into Add/Remove and select itunes. click "Change" and then click "Repair".
if the repair install goes through okay, restart the PC and try launching itunes again. does it launch properly now?

  • Need Help for Itunes and quicktime

    Hi there,
I just formated my computer and my os is windows 2003 server. When I installed itunes, everything is fine however when I installed quicktime I got an error code : -3. What's going on? and after I done with the installation, I couldn't open an itunes as well I got an error message said : The exception Privileged instruction. (0xc0000096) occurred in the application at location 0x7ca2af84. I don't know what happened I did install itunes and quick time under windows 2003 before and it works fine, but now I got an error. I appreciate the answer, Thanks in advance.

by any chance, did you try downloading the QT Player
from the "QuickTime 7.1 with iTunes 6 for Windows
2000/XP" link on the QT download page? that one
actually leads to an itunes/QT installer bundle.
    I did it this way
let's try a careful standalone QT 7.1 reinstall.
download and save a copy of the QT 7.1 standalone
installer to your hard drive. (we'll run the install
from there rather than online.) switch off
antivirus and antispyware applications prior to the
    install.
    Quicktime 7.1 Standalone Installer
if that install goes through okay, does your itunes
    launch properly again?
I did like you said and I can not even uninstall quicktime from my computer. When I double click the installation package: It shows
    Unhandled Exception
    Error Number : 0x80040707
Description : DLL function call crashed : QTInstallCode.QuickTimeUninstallProc
    Setup will now terminate
Also, itunes does not launch properly. I think there is something wrong because when I install the windows from the cd I can install and run these two programs(itunes and quicktime). They work fine and no problem at all. However, after I update windows by using windows update web site, I couldn't use these programs since then. I have no idea what is going on? Before I reinstall my os, I also use windows server 2003 with sp1 and I could run these two programs. I think may be the new version of itunes and quicktime that they put on the web site have some issues with the windows server 2003, not sure about that.
    Thanks.
(if you get an error message on the QT standalone
reinstall, let us know what it says. include error
message numbers if you're getting any.)
