ITunes and Quicktime not running after upgrade

After installing iTunes 5 I get the following error message when launching it:
'The instruction at "0xf4800000" referenced memory at "0xf4800000". The memory could not be "read".'
When trying to run a quicktime clip embedded in a Acrobat document I get the message:
'QuickTime Streaming Extras failed to load because the versions od QuickTime Streaming and QuickTime Streaming Extras do not match.'
If I try to uninstall or reinstall QuickTime I get:
'Error Number: 0x80040707
Description: DLL Function call crashed: QTInstallCode. QuickTimeUnInstallProc..'
The rest of the message is cut off.

well done, Ryan!
"From the command prompt run the following:
msiexec.exe /unregister
msiexec /regserver "
good gracious ... you had to do that to get the Cleanup utility to install?
prior to the new versions of the Windows Installer coming out, i only had to use that trick
b once
to get past an itunes installer error (and i only remember it because it showed up in an almost unique situation where you have to treat the last error in a chain of itune installer errors first) ... but you're about the third or fourth person reporting success with it in the past
b week.
it's a rarer sort of problem, still. but the latest Windows Installer updates just don't seem to have been sticking as well as earlier ones.
many thanks for reporting back!
love, b

  • ITunes and QuickTime stopped working after an upgrade...

I have been pulling my hair out trying to get my iTunes working again. Here is what I have done already in order:
    1. Does not work regardless of user (http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=302856)
    2. Tried running with changes to MSCONFIG
    - Ran according to Apple Support Web Site (http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=302538)
    - Ran in Diagnostics mode
    - Ran in /SAFEMODE
    3. Uninstalled and removed from any reference from registry
    4. Removed iTunes configuration files (http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=302386)
    5. Installed WinInspector Spy and launched iTunes to see what happened. Unfortunately I have not figured out how to copy and paste the log, but it shows the iTunes window class being created, a bunch of other stuff, then the OfficeWatson class, stuff and then the infamous "iTunes has encountered a problem and needs to close" message. After hitting the Send Error Report, I see the OfficeWatson window being destroyed and that is it. This leads me to believe that the problem is somehow with the outlook integration between iTunes and Windows? So I looked in my Add/Remove programs and sure enough Office and Outlook were upgraded the day after the last time i was able to use iTunes. So I tried uninstalling Office, iTunes and QuickTime. QuickTime refused to uninstalled claiming a fatal error. I then forcably removed it as described in the apple knowledge paper. Another interesting point, when I ran QuickTime, nothing happens, not even a crash message. When I run QuickTime Preferences from the system tray, the dialog shows, but when I click on the FileTypes tab, I get a RUNDLL error: "An exception occurred while trying to run "Shell32.dll, Control_RunDLL "C:\Program Files\QuickTime\QTSystem\QuickTime.cpl".
I also tried running StraceNtX.exe against it, but it doesnt create the right environment for iTunes (it thinks it is Windows 2000 and does have the right service pack).
PLEASE can someone help? This is the second time this has happened to me. The first time was on another computer that came with a "real" restore point (not the stupid one Windows has that does not work) and I solved it by simply restoring back in time. This time I do not have that option!
ARGH - I really do not want to have to use Media Player.
Is there a way to force a stack trace? I am a UNIX programmer and not familiar with Windoze.

It sounds as though things have got pretty screwed up. If you couldn't clean things up properly with the MS installer cleaup, there is thread on cleaning up uninstall information in the registry.

I am not sure that I have anything more to offer as you appear to have done most things. Have you tried turning off all security software while doing the install, and doing the MSconfig thing with just Quicktime. Presumably your system is free of malware?
As a matter of interst, what happens if you have the task manager running when you start Quicktime, does it start and then stop, or keep running or not start at all?
A few people seem to have these intractable problems and the forum expert on this has been away since christmas, but you could try searching the forum for "b noir" posts about install/launch problems.

  • ITunes and QuickTime not opening - why?

Recently iTunes and Quicktime haven't been opening, whether when I ask media to be opened in them or if I open them directly. They display as being open in the dock, but never actually do open and I always have to end up Force Quitting them.
Why would this occur and how can I resolve the problem?

For those reading this who do not have a QuickTime settings icon visable in their Control Panel window - look to the top left of the Control Panel window and click on Classic View.
The QuickTime icon will be visible.
I did have K-Lite but I installed it as part of WMPod after I had all this palarva, thinking I would then be able to sync via Windows Media Player. Not so, Windows Media Player did not recognise the plug in - did not have it listed in the options windows.
    When I double clicked on the QuickTime icon in Control Panel (classic view) I got this message;
An exception occurred while trying to run "C:\WINDOWS\system32\shell32.dll,Control_RunDLL
    "C:\WINDOWS\system32\Quicktime.cpl",Quicktime"
I had in fact deleted what I thought were duplicate QT plugins (there were half a dozen in the Programs\Internet Eplorer folder and more in Mozilla).
So I downloaded QuickTime (again) and selected repair once the installation window was up. Double clicked on QuickTime in Control Panel again.
    Same message again.

  • Address book and calendar not synchronized after upgrade to iTunes 11.0

    Mac OS X 10.6.8.
    iPhone 4
After upgrading to iTunes 11.0, the address book and iCal do not synchronize between iPhone and  iMac.
I have already restarted both devices in vain.
    Thanks for help

I have only the problem with iCal, not with the contact application.
I don't know when it started but I have iTunes 11.0.1 (12) and iOS 6.1 on my iPhone 4
The modification on my iPhone calendar are not on my iMac, but the other way works.
It really looks like a bug !!!!!! :-(

  • Issues with iTunes 9.2 not running after download.

I have been trying to get iTunes 9.2 going since the 24th when I purchased my iPhone 4. I have had NO LUCK getting iTunes to properly run after downloading the flie.
    I have Vista 64 bit.
When I download the file and attempt to run it, I get the error "Publisher could not be verified" I select run anyway and nothing happens.
I have tried every suggestion made on this form
    I have-
    Tried to run as administrator
    Deleted temp folder in Users/Name
    Ran windows installer cleanup utility
downloaded the file from firefox and IE
It's very annoying because the 32 bit will run and install, but the 64 bit will not. Any suggestions?

None of your software will install on any computer I own. I tried to download Safari and download iTunes through that browser to see if the results would be different, but after downloading it that file does NOTHING after being ran. It's so pathetic I can't even sync my iPhone 4 to my computer after having it since Thursday. Three different computers three different downloads with 2 different browsers.
I'm getting ready to just box up this phone and return it, if I cant even sync it to iTunes, it's useless to me.
If I download through Firefox, nothing happens when I run the executable.
If I download it through Internet Explorer, I get the message that it is an invalid publisher, or publisher could not be identified.
I have erased my temp folder, deleted browser history on both browsers, still nothing.
I am running it in Administrator mode, I have done every suggestion that you have on your site and nothing works.

  • ITunes 9 will not open after upgrade

I recently tried to upgrade to iTunes 9, but my computer wouldn't take it, so I uninstalled iTunes, and reinstalled it; six last night and twice today. Whenever I open it after reinstalling it, a message will pop up saying "The iTunes application could not be opened. An unknown error occured (-50)". Help please?

    I have a Windows XP
    Thank you!
Okay, this is not going to be a cure in itself. But it'll identify which troubleshooting procedures we need to employ here.
Go into your user accounts control panel and create a new user account with full administrative rights.
Log out of your usual account and log into the new account. (Don't use fast user switching to move between accounts.)
Now try to launch itunes in the new user account. Does it eventually open to a blank library, or do you get another 50?
(If it launches, we'll try to fix the library file in your normal account. If it's a 50, we'll try to fix a broken Apple Application Support.)

  • Facetime and iMessage not working after upgrade to Mountain Lion

Was running Messages (beta) and Facetime on my Macbook Pro with Lion.  I used both Facetime and sent iMessages through the Messages client, and they were both working 100%.
Today I upgraded from Lion (latest version) to Mountain Lion.  All is working except iMessages (through the Messages application) and Facetime.  When I try to log in, using the same @gmail.com account as I had done before, I get the message saying "The server encountered an error processing registration.  Please try again later".
I know that iMessage, with that account, is working.  I am using it from my iPhone and it works ok.  And I use the same account in iTunes, and it is ok there as well.
So what is wrong ?  What happened with iMessage and Facetime connectivity after the Mountain Lion upgrade ?

    backup the device with itunes.
Restore the device with itunes and set up as new.
Sign into the facetime and imessage to activate it.
After that is done and activation is good.
    Restore from the backup.
Then make sure to sign into facetime and imessage again and you should be good to go

  • ITunes window would not open after upgrade

Just upgraded to OS 10.4.7, and iTunes 6.0.5. All my software is fully up to date with all the latest. After the upgrade when launching iTunes I have two problems:
    1. Intially the program launched. Now iTunes window does not open. Only the Equalizer window opens. A very big problem!!
    2. During the first launch after the upgrade, when I still had my window, it took away a couple of free songs credit I still had with Apple. I don't have those credits any longer, or at least it didn't show it and wanted me to pay for downloads.
Should have left the program alone and not update I guess.
    Any suggestions? Thanks.

    Only the Equalizer window opens
That means the app. is active.
Press Command-1 (Window menu) to reveal the iTunes window.
Sorry, no clue about the credits.
    Hope this helps.

  • My Epson Scan software running my Epson Perfection v500 Photo will not run after upgrading to mavericks. Any suggestions?

After upgrading to Mavericks I find that the Epson Scan software will no longer run so I cannot now use my Epson Perfection V500 Photo scanner. Is there a solution to this? If not can I delete Mavericks and go back to Mountain Lion?

    Hi...
Epson is working on new drivers / software for this scanner.
Until then, you can perform basic scanning from Image Capture.
Or go for 3rd party app. like vuescan.

  • Itunes and quicktime not working!!! HELP PLEASE!!

    Any ideas?

"quick time Player has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience".
The broken QuickTime is most probably causing the iTunes problem. (iTunes needs a properly functioning QuickTime in order to work correctly.)
Let's try swapping out your QuickTime again, taking a few additional explicit precautions this time.
Head into your Add/Remove programs. Uninstall QuickTime.
Next, we’ll manually remove any leftover program files and folders.
    1. On the Start menu, click My Computer (or double-click My Computer on the Desktop).
    2. In My Computer, open Local Disk.
    3. Open Program Files.
    4. Right-click on the QuickTime folder and click Delete from the shortcut menu.
    5. Navigate to C:\Windows\system32\.
    6. Remove the files QuickTime.qts and QuicktimeVR.qtx. (If “Hide filename extensions for known file types” is enabled on the PC, then those two files will appear as “QuickTime” and QuickTimeVR”.)
    7. Restart your computer.
Next, we'll get a fresh copy of QuickTime into your PC by doing a repair install of itunes.
Switch off antivirus and antispyware applications prior to the repair install.
Go into Add/Remove and select itunes. Click "Change" and then click "Repair".
If the repair install goes through okay, restart the PC and try launching itunes again. Does it launch properly now?

  • Internet and more not working after upgrading to iOS 8

After upgrading to IOS8 - I had multiple issues
Network Connection is shotty and disconnects after clicking few sites
    Email gets stuck
There is some sort of a bug(s) system is not stable.
    Safari is not working
Apple needs an update or patch very soon.

Sept. 22, 2014 Hello everyone finally a solution - The issue is with the 5GHZ networks.  Reset your network of your IPAD and/or IPHONE and connect to your slower 2.4GHZ network - So far issue is fixed but for gamers and serious bandwidth absorbers, it might be a disappointment with the 2.4GHZ.
Let's face it, it's better than the sporadic network drops.
    My Movie connection was uninterrupted.

  • Report will not run after upgrade to new Crystal server

My company has been using Business Objects version 11.5 Central Management Console and InfoView for Crystal reports. We are upgrading to
SAP BusinessObjects BI Platform 4.1 Support Pack 1 Version: 14.1.1.1036 Central Management Console and BI Launch Pad. I have one report that is using a sql command for nat2date of a database value that is running successfully on InfoView but will not run on BI Launch Pad. The nat2date function is converting a random number in our database to a date and then selecting the records for the report by using the LastFullWeek function.
    ({Command.NAT2DATE(PY_PAY_SEGMENT_T.FROZEN_TIME)} in LastFullWeek)
Is there something I need to add to the new CMC to recognize this sql command?
    Thanks for any suggestions!

Ok, with BI 4.1 you'll need to use Crystal 2013 instead of Crystal 11.5.  For the vast majority of your reports, you won't have to manually upgrade them because the 11.5 version will work fine in the new version of BO.
I suspect the problem you're seeing is with the "{Command.NAT2DATE(PY_PAY_SEGMENT_T.FROZEN_TIME)}" syntax. is "NAT2DATE(PY_PAY_SEGMENT_T.FROZEN_TIME)" the field alias that you're returning for this function?  Or are you trying to call the function like this?  I would call the function and alias it in the "Select" clause of your command so that it looks something like this:
    Select
      ...<various fields>...,
    NAT2DATE(PY_PAY_SEGMENT_T.FROZEN_TIME) as FROZEN_DATE
    from
    where
You could then change the selection criteria to something like this:
    {Command.FROZEN_DATE} in LastFullWeek.
That will fix the report as is.
However, when you use the Select Expert for reports that have a command, Crystal will pull ALL of the data from the query into memory and then filter it there - it will NOT push this selection criteria down to the database.  So, I usually recommend that you put all of the filter criteria in the Where clause of the command.  You could use something like this to get "LastFullWeek":
    NAT2DATE(PY_PAY_SEGMENT_T.FROZEN_TIME) between Trunc(Sysdate - 7, 'DAY')  and
    Trunc(Sysdate, 'DAY') - 1
"Trunc(Sysdate, 'DAY')"  will give you the first day of the current week and "Trunc(Sysdate -7, 'DAY') will give you the first day of the previous week.
If you do it like this in the where clause, you may not have to include the "Frozen_Date" in the select clause.

  • ITunes and Quicktime not launching

Greetings. iTunes or Quicktime will not open up on my Apple G4. When I click the icon it appears to look like its loading up, but fails to actually open. I am unable to gain access to any of my music files, or even play them through quicktime. Everything else opens fine on the computer. Restarts, etc... are not working either. Does anyone have any advice, it would be greatly appreciated. I'm trying to avoid losing all my stuff on this computer, but do you think updating my operating system from panther to tiger would make itunes start working again? Thanks for any advice.

It seems to me, the Digidesign website has been reorganized.
Last time I looked (few months ago) it was no problem at all to go to the download links for the various drivers.
This time I'm being redirected to other pages and constantly getting "Problem accessing search server" messages, when searching for "Coreaudio Panther".
If the accessing problems aren't solved within a few days, I recommend you contact them by phone or email. I understand from what I read on the support page, you have to be a registered user to get support.

  • Itunes and Iphoto not responding after uploading new software

    Hi
Afew days ago I did the Apple Software Update and since then I haven't been able to get onto my Itunes or Iphoto, both of which I use quite often. Itunes just doesn't load at all and Iphoto starts to open the page but then doesn't respond at all. I am just wondering why this is happening and whether it's happened to anyone else at all? Ideally I'd like to get rid of this new update but don't know how to go about it. I'm a bit of a computer dunce so if you could offer any solution in a straightforward way I would be so grateful. Thanks!

This forum is for troubleshooting Apple Software Update for Windows, a software package for Windows designed to update Apple products that run on Windows, and not related to iTunes or iPhoto for Mac OS. You should post related questions in the iTunes and iPhoto forums

  • [SOLVED] Xorg and keyboard not working after upgrade.

    Hi guys,
after a `# pacman -Syyu` I got Xorg not starting and keyboard not working: I am unable to do anything.
I'm posting here pacman's log that I got by booting an Ubuntu Live CD: https://gist.github.com/anonymous/7517806
    Any hint?
How do you recover a system once it's gone like this? Many thanks in advance.

    Just my 1.46¢
You're right, problem wasn't actually solved. In fact, yesterday I upgraded the whole system again and the same problem showed up, but I got it fixed.
Same scenario: after a boot (shorter than usual), what I had was a tty, but I noticed something that I hadn't noticed the last time: the prompt said "Arch Linux 3.11.[?]".
The kernel version was supposed to be 3.12.[?] so I started investigating and after several attempts, this is how I got the system working again:
    1. Chrooted into the system
    2. Wiped /boot
    3. Re-installed grub
    4. Re-installed linux kernel
    5. Re-created grub.cfg
    6. ???
    7. Profit
I'm pretty sure that what originated the problem wasn't a "kernel issue" as I pointed out in my previous post, but it was an incorrect installation of grub: in fact, the grub prompt never showed up before yesterday, the system used to boot straight, ignoring the 5 seconds timeout.
