ITunes and Spaces
When I have iTunes open (either mini-player or not) whenever I switch spaces ITunes is in the new space. I have tried every configuration in the Mission Control preference and nothing seems to change this behavior. I've also mucked around in every Itunes prefence I can find and nothing I change will keep iTunes in its own space. This is on a 2010 Mac Mini running 10.9.2. This behavior however extends back to before Mavericks was even released. I have three different Macs I work on and have used spaces extensively for years. The Mac Mini is the only one that has exhibits this behavior and for the life of me I can not figure out this problem. Any advice?
Did you try updating to iTunes 7.5? I've had a similar problem w/ iTunes and Spaces and the update seemed to help.

I have about 130 gigs of movies on my iTunes and was wondering if I can just put them on my backup hard drive and remove them from my main computer to free up the space.
I haven't done this with an external drive, but I would imagine it works the same way as if you have multiple internal drives. Also hopefully it works with less headache in OSX than in windows.
Anyway, move all your music over to your external, and then go into itunes -> preferences -> advanced -> iTunes media folder location. Navigate to your drive, and pick the folder you want. Ensure that your folders are set up like they are in your ~/Music/iTunes folder, or wherever your iTunes is currently pointing. Then quit and restart itunes. If your music doesn't show up, try dragging your music folder from your external onto itunes, and it will hopefully update your library.xml.
As far as Jerry's problem goes, you could try adding another music folder to your library.xml, but I really have no idea whether this will work or not. If you want to give it a try (can't promise you won't corrupt your library.xml, so make a copy beforehand) you can find the music folder xml element right near the top of the xml file (open it with textedit/textmate/whatever text editor you want (NOT WORD)). Curious to know if this works, and if it doesn't I have other ideas so let me know. -
my video and music i save on my ext drive when i want to sync to my phone or ipad i drag folder into play list itunes and sync, before it did not save on my pc but now it save on my pc drive and took alots space, how can i do all my folder music and video did not save on my pc and into my ext, drive? please help me
Thanks
MPHUHi MJPHU,
I understand that when you want to move music or video from your external hard drive to sync with iTunes, that media is staying on your computer and taking up hard drive space. In this situation I would recommend changeing the location of where iTunes looks for the media. This way you can sync anything you want without dragging files to your computer hard drive. If the external drive with the media is connected, iTunes will sync directly from there. The following article explains how to change the location of where iTunes looks for your media.

How come I can't put music on my ipod? I already have a fair amount of music on my ipod but I have enough space for more. I am using a new computer with itunes and it is telling me if I wasnt to put the new music on my ipd i need to erase my ipod HELP!
Because you can only synce with one iTunes library and you are switching libries by using the new computer. To nake this yyour syncing computer:
- Move all the media(apps, music, synced video and photos etc) to the new computer.
- Connect the iPofd yo the computer and bake a backup fo the iPod by right clicking on the iPod under Devices in iTunes and select Back Up
- Restore the iPod from that backup.
Note that the backup that iTunes makes doe not include media.
To move mdia to the new computer see:

I have all my music in iTunes and have "Music Match" turned on. Apparently, I also have music on my iPhone 5. I need to free up space on my iPhone. If I delete the music on my iPhone, will it still be available to me on my phone via the cloud?
The same is true for photo's. I have too many photo's on my phone taking up space. Now I realize I can remove a lot of the photo's via sync options, but ...This can happen if iTunes gets confused about what is and isn't on the device. These steps should resolve.
Backup the device.
Restore as a new device.
Restore the backup made earlier.

Here is my problem:
I'm unable to download the latest software iOS 6.0.1 to my iphone 4 because there is not enough available space. I tried to sync my iphone to itunes and it says, "itunes cannot read the contents of this iPhone. Go to the Summary tab in iPhone preferences and click Restore to restore this iPhone to factory settings."
I backed up my data to icloud to ensure everything is backed up. Is there a way to verify if data was really backed up in icloud?
What else can I do in order to free up enough space to download the newest version iOS 6.0.1? Current version on the iphone is 5.1.1 and there is only 1.6 GB of space remaining. I need 2.5 to download the software. If you really are running OS 10.4.6 you have a long way to go!
So, assuming you are not, what version of OS X do you have? -

Why is the free space different in iTunes and iPhone?
I can not download an app update because I don't have enough room on my iiPhone. I plug it into iTunes and it says I have 3.23 GB free. Why the difference? I have synced several times. Also, I think I remember in the past the iPhone has kept some old backups on it taking up space. I can't find those now. Where would they be if they exist?
I have an iPhone 5S with the software up to date. I have an iMac with the Mavericks software and iTunes up to date.
Thanks
CarlSimple solution. Totally erase all your music from the ipod. then try transferring it all back on, or just what you want, if not all of it. This should pretty much correct it. Good luck!

I'm trying to sync my ipad mini with itunes and i get an error message '' there is no free space on your ipad mini''..... any ideas on how to empty some space on ipad mini manually? currently i run on 6.0.2
iOS device backups are stored in your iTunes library.
Move your iTunes library to an external drive. -
i connected to itunes and it says i have 2.11 GB of space taken up under OTHER , i cant figure out what is taking up so much space can anyone help?
I believe the new IOS 8 system takes up 1.3 Gb on it's own. Then plus anything else you may have loaded.

Can I save my photos from my iPhone to iCloud/iTunes, and then delete them from my iPhone to free up space on my iPhone?I would still like to keep them somewhere where they can be accessed.
One option is to turn on iCloud Photo Library on the phone and go to Settings > iCloud > Photos and turn on "Optimize iPhone Storage." Then you don't delete the photo from the phone but it does occupy significantly less space. More information in iCloud Photo Library FAQ - Apple Support

I just bought iPod touch 8GB put it in iTune and it show only 34Mb available. and it been use up 6.2GB show from the iTune Summery as "OTHER 6.2 GB" so I don't have enoght space to sync any much application for my kids. How do i do? I already make sure it has no Picture, songs ...all only app that come with the factory default. How do I do? or something wrong..
I got iPhone and another ipod touch (32GB) but it has a lot of space available...I just can't fix it out what OTHER 6.2GB used came from?Other can be files that the iPod has "lost" or can no longer recognise.
So either you bought this second hand and it had someone else's stuff on it, or you were unlucky and the first Sync of your iPod to iTunes resulted in a lot of "Other".
Conect the iPod to iTunes and on the Device/Summary pane (tab) look for and select the Restore button. -
Apple TV, iTunes and my hard drive free space
Hello,
Not sure if anybody has posted this question already. Here it goes.
¿Is it possible to leave some content just in the AppleTV without syncing it to the iTunes? I have a MacBookPro with 100 Gb hard drive; my Apple TV is 160 GB and my content is around 25 GBytes of Movies and 35 Gbytes of TV Shows plus some 2 Gigs of music. Now the issue is that, everytime i bought some movies/songs in the AppleTV it's being transfered to my iTunes in my MacBook and im running out of space like crazy!
So, is it possible to leave in the AppleTV just the content i bought from the iTunes store without syncing it with my iTunes and my Mac hard drive?
And, is it possible to transfer the (movies/tv shows) purchases i've made in my iTunes to my AppleTV so i can free space?
Regards. So in essence, if you buy a 160 GB ATV and only have a MACBOOK w/ 80 GB, you can only use less than half the space available on your ATV...that *****! I wonder what the best external storage device is for ease of play of content? I hate adding extra equipment....

My MacPro says the startup disk is too full. I have 4 internal hard drives that have 2T each so there is plenty of space, but all start up programs, libraries, iTunes and application folder are on the '1st' hard drive. Can I move any to 2nd drive?
Your system will likely fit just fine on a small fast 250GB SSD
What you have is lots of stuff that should not be on the boot drive, data and graphics or media files and libraries that should be moved to another drive.
If you are getting a message like this, STOP, off load files, make room, and make sure to have 15% free or more.
Do not try to move anything from system and its library and sub folders. Move your home user account and just leave the essential home library but move all the rest.
A full drive can have trouble finding free space segments and writing out updates to files and to the directory. And loss of directory means loss of where files are located and their segments.
